Carson shouldered his backpack as he got off the bus. Work had run long - they'd had to wait until late in the day to finish up because of the late summer heat, and the sun had set hours ago. The night was humid and abuzz with the chirping of cicadas.

Carson paused, considering a flickering streetlight in front of him. Off. On. Off. On. Off. A pool of inky darkness on an otherwise lit street. This neighborhood wasn't the greatest, but he still liked to think of it as safe. He was a big guy. Six feet plus, ex-military. People didn't mess with him.

People would be very stupid to mess with him.

He kept walking, leaving the broken streetlight behind.

He thought he heard someone else's footsteps. Carson tightened his hand on the strap of his backpack and walked a little faster. The neighborhood wasn't the greatest, and in Destiny City, not the greatest could put you in a lot of danger.

Wither stood off in the shadows waiting for some poor sap to unwittingly become his final energy drain of the night. He grinned to himself as his victim walked up and passed him. Witheritell fell in step behind him attempting to match his pace, which was not terrible hard as he was a triathlete. He quickened his pace until he was right up beside the other and started casually, "nice evening for a walk. Hope you don't mind if I join you."

A rhetorical question of course as he had every intention of continuing to walk beside the other, no matter what the answer. He didn't reach out just yet to drain the other. He needed to judge the ease of the 'transaction' so to speak. "You look like a reasonable fellow. Let's you and me do business shall we?"

He probably sounded stupid or like some drug dealer thug, whatever as long as it got the job done, that was really all that matter.

Carson narrowed his eyes at the newcomer. He wasn't exactly immersed in Destiny City's secret war, but Elke had briefed him on enough that he was instantly suspicious of people in dark clothing who accosted him after dark. "Um, sure. Glad it cooled off from earlier," he said, sizing the other guy up. He was slightly shorter than Carson, with a runner's wiry build. If they were both civilians, Carson would have said he could take him easily in a fight - he had close-quarters combat training, and he doubted the other man did. But, if he was operating on the assumption that this man was a member of Destiny City's super-powered shadow-war, then the equation became significantly more complicated...

"Can't do business when you haven't told me what you're looking to sell," he said, adjusting his gait so that he was walking a little further away from the other man. Carson might have been confident in his own strength, but not against a super-villain. He'd read enough comic books to know how that ended up.

"It's not, like, a weird sex thing, is it?" he asked lowly. "Because I'm not buying."

Bifrost swung a left as she weaved through the alleys. The Squire of Chronos kept to a brisk walk, not yet breaking into a run. Over the years she'd been a knight, the small blonde haired young woman learned that running into danger usually didn't end well for anyone. Especially when a power signature dripped in Chaos loomed in front of her. Survival had been come very, very high on her priority list since the visions of the future. That, and up until this year she'd been useless in battle and that tended to put a damper on things.

There wasn't hiding from Chaos. They could sense her just as much as she could them. Her only hope was the incoming of her signature would be enough to drive him off. Bifrost didn't count on this of course - the Negaverse was too damn stubborn for that - but she could hope at least.

She rounded the corner to find one of Chaos' own talking with a civilian. The guy was built, probably had some training or at least strength on his side, and looked particularly keen on not talking with the agent. The Squire unwound her metal rope from her arm, letting it swing back and forth.

"I don't think he wants to go out with you, He Who Needs To Take A Hint!" She called from some twenty yards back, a cheery if determined smile on her face.

Wither shrugged and kept walking with the other, "yes though I very much like heat. I'd you don't that's a pity. " He frowned as the other moved further away but allowed the distance hoping to make this a little easier if he could not freak the guy out to much.

He bulked a moment later giving the guy the eye, "da ******** man... seriously ... couldn't have assumed I was trying to sell some pot or something. I don't want into your pants ... I'm not a hooked or whatever ..."

His frown deepened feeling the energy of the Squire headed for them and quickly. "Some ones about to crash our party ... guess I'd better make this quick then. It's a pity ... I was gonna try to do this the easy way."

He licked hard at the back of the other knee to take him down summonimg his stupid little plastic wrench. It was dark so it looked real enough. He rolled his eyes at the girls words. "I was just going to take a little of the top ... now I might just have to kill him. But whatever thats what happens when nosy magic slingers interfer."

He gave his most charming smile, "maybe starseeds tonight instead of energy. I'm sure they will be much appreciated."

"Look at her, " he said laughing lightly, " she's the reason you'll lose your starseed tonight as opposed to a little harmless handful of energy."

"You have got to be ******** kidding me," said Carson, rolling onto his back. He hadn't survived six years getting shot at on the other side of the world so that he could die here, in Destiny City, on a Sunday night. He certainly had no intention of dying so that some hotheaded kid could go look good for his boss. Like seriously, no.

Looking back down the road, he could see the squire approaching - and she needed to hurry up. "He's got a wrench!" Carson called, lashing out at the man with his feet - maybe he could take him down and buy time to get away? He had training, but he knew when he was outmatched, and superpowers definitely qualified.

"Seriously, dude," said Carson, rolling onto his knees. He pushed himself to his feet and squared off - the sooner that girl closed the distance between them, the better. "You couldn't've picked an easier target than the actual literal combat veteran?"

Clearly, he wasn't dealing with the Negaverse's best and brightest.

Bifrost gave the lieutenant (she assumed, he felt weaker than herself) a look of mild disapproval and just a raised eyebrow and flat lined mouth (whatever that was, the actual emotion and expression were completely lost to her at that moment). The Squire sighed, and briskly walked over. Given the martial prowess of the civilian, who mentioned something about combat veteran, he honestly could have had it covered with out her help.

Bifrost wasn't exactly what you'd call... useful in hand to hand combat.

She did, however, have the ability to put up a barrier and was pretty damn sure that pathetic little wrench couldn't do a damn thing about it.

"Oh I wouldn't worry too much about the wrench, Mister. Younger agents don't have much beyond cheap plastic toys. If you're worried though," she said, finishing crossing the distance and snapping her rope of metal between her hands. "I will gladly put up a barrier."

A swath of rainbow colored energy billowed out from the rope, forming a half circle in front of Bifrost's hands that stood about five feet tall. It rippled slightly as the colors shifted.

Bifrost's Magic
Bifrost grips the unwoven portions of her gauntlet instead of crossing her hands, then stretching the whip taught in front of her. In doing so a wall of see-through rainbow is pulled between her hands and forms a small barrier in front of her. This barrier is about five feet high, and half an inch thick. It only protects Bifrost for as long as she channels it, but others can hide behind it. She can sustain her barrier for at most 40 seconds total (regardless if she does twenty seconds and twenty, or four sets of ten, or what have you) but can be shattered with enough force behind it.

Wither frowned at the guy on the ground and shook his head and turning to glare fiercely when he shouted that he had a wrench. He almost lifted his hand to smack him with it, but he remembered it was plastic so he refrained.

"Shut up, no body cares about you combat training. I've got training as well, from someone who could break you and have, so do be quite."

How he wished he could teleport right now, cause he disappear and reappear for a spine shot, but no still just a lieutenant so that was out of the question. He wasn't worried about the other instead he moved toward the girl, who dared to out his weapon as a toy.

"Ugh you little whore," he started toward Bifrost not in the least caring about the civilian anymore, but he stopped short when he noticed her doing magic, he had a healthy amount of caution where it was concerned. Though seconds later he could have face planted at the magic.

"Are you serious," he asked laughing, "you made a glowing rainbow wall. Flippin, get out of here. You're wasting my time. Shoo." He waved his hand at her flippantly.

Pharos could feel the two energy signatures, and she hoped it didn't mean trouble, but she figured she ought to take a peak just in case some one needed her help. She moved as quickly as she could toward them across the rooftops, which often proved to be the fastest route.

When she was close enough she could see Bifrost, what felt like a lieutenant and a civilian all seemingly squaring off she jumped right down to join them. She grinned plopping down a distance away from Bifrost.

"Hello Bifrost" she said excitedly summoning her staff, "need a hand."

For someone who claimed to be proficient in a fight, noted Carson, Witherite was a lot more talk than walk. But the lieutenant's attention was off him now, pulled by the magic-slinging girl dressed like an Assassin's Creed character and the other girl who'd just appeared - NOT THAT CARSON WAS COMPLAINING. He was going to do the sensible thing here and run like hell while the douchebag was distracted.

He got about ten feet down the alley before something caught his eye - it was a small club, golden and green with a butterfly charm hanging off the end. A child's toy, probably - but it was calling to Carson, like pick me up if you want to live! And considering all the magic he'd seen tonight, Carson thought that he was getting pretty well acquainted with what he was looking at.

He picked up the club, and transformed in a flash of green light, his street clothes tagging out for a crisp, white military uniform and a pair of calfskin boots.

Triumphalis thought one thing, and one thing only: I can take this a*****e in a fight.

He turned around and headed back, lined up the shot - and tackled the lieutenant from behind. "Okay, you little s**t," said Triumphalis. "You came to the wrong neighborhood."

"Pharos! If you don't mind!" Bifrost smiled widely at her fellow Chronos knight, pleased to see another of her order still around. It made her so happy to see Pharos alive and well - and a Squire! - and she wasn't about to turn down her help. As the civilian ran off, she dropped the barrier and gave the lieutenant a rather unamused look.

"He Who Uses a Plastic Wrench, I don't quite think you know who you're dealing with!" Bifrost shifted, pulling her chain up into hand and swinging it. The chain wouldn't do a whole lot, but maybe she could bind an arm or--

Suddenly there was a flare of power on her radar, and a few moments later a green and white being collided the lieutenant. It took a moment for her to recognize the symbols on the page's clothing, the coloring, and the style, but when she did her lilac eyes lit up even further.

Another Chronos knight! The ones awoken on the Surrounding weren't the only ones to ever awake!

Another ******** squire showed up and Witherite frown only deepen. "What the hell? What are you going to do tiny magic slinger? You summoned a pint sizes helper huh? Maybe you two should go place nice elsewhere ... run along now."

He turned to see his civilian escaping and turned back to the girls. "Dammit you little idiots are going to pay for interupting. Always sticking your noses where they don't belong" He advanced on them.

Pharos gripped her weapon tightly frowning at the nega making fun of them. As awful as they were it was actually rare to be made fun of.

"That's not nice," she said softly with a bit of a glare. He went to walk away and she took a step toward him, ready to charge him if he went after the other, but he turned back and advanced on them. She was ready for him, staff gripped tightly, ready to swing hard and knock the wind out of him, but the other was tackled to the ground when the civilian suddenly became a page. A Chronos page!

He felt the other signature, but it didn't help. He found himself bodily tackled to the ground landing with a gasp as concrete ground into his back. He had to ignore the pain in favor of being released. He kicked out and swung at the other face with his fist, plastic wrench still in hand.

"Off you ******** a*****e."

Triumphalis didn't really know the first thing about being a knight, but he sure knew a lot about being a soldier - and he was pretty sure he could tell a unit logo when he saw one. These girls were kin to him, sisters-in-arms. He'd figure out the specifics later: right now, they were three against one in a fight he was sure he could win.

He took the wrench to the face, and though it was plastic, it still hurt something awful. "I'm the a*****e?" asked Triumphalis, eyebrows raising. Oh. Right. Secret identities. He'd read enough comic books to know that he wasn't Carson right now.

"What's our code of conduct?" he asked the girls, pulling his fist back in preparation to punch. "Do we kill this son-of-a-b***h?"

Bifrost released her barrier with a breath, letting the chain dangle from her arm. She wasn't a very threatening squire, but the officer was now up against two squires and a page, and she felt just a tinsy bit powerful because of that. She glanced at the new page and shook her head.

"Sadly, no, but feel free to knock him out. Sounds like he could use a good nap," she said with a smile to the page. Killing wasn't the Order way, but that didn't mean the officer couldn't feel his mistake in the morning.

Bifrost fluffed her shoulders, winding the change back around her arm, and watched.

Pharos shook her head when the new page asked if they were going to kill the loud mouth leiutenant, and further frowned at Bifrost who suggested knocking him out. "No, we definitely are not going to kill him, but I also imagine if we want other's to pursue purification we shouldn't go around knocking them out either."

She gave a bit of a sigh and tugged on her coat and looked between the pair. She wasn't sure mercy was exactly what they needed to offer, but that didn't make her any less against knocking him out.

She looked to negaverse struggling on the ground, who chose that moment to turn his head and attempt to sink his teeth into the new page. "Watch out," she squeaked.

Witherite paid the girl no head as he attempted to bite the man holding him down. He was still squirming and trying to get free, but the notion of being knocked out even if they weren't going to kill him made him feel more than a little desperate.

"Get off magic slinger. This s**t isn't even necessary and hardly the fairest of fight. You all act like a I was going to off the damn guy," he was of course, but that was after they intervened, "******** what the hell."

Right now he just needed to get free and flee, he'd get the three of them later, but not three on one. He had no desire to have his life ended.

Honestly, all this deliberation about knocking him out or not was lost on Triumphalis. In a fight, instinct took over, self-preservation overriding everything else. The Negaverser's teeth sank into the exposed flesh on his wrist. "********-" he swore, and swung with his free hand.

It was a hard hit. Triumphalis pushed himself off his now-limp assailant. "Out cold, I think," he said, flexing his wrist. "Either of you know where I can get a tetanus shot? Or maybe I should go straight to rabies..." He frowned slightly, nudging the unconscious lieutenant with his toe. "You're a ******** animal, man."

"Sorry," he said to Pharos. "You said something about not knocking him out but - instinct. Combat vet. Sorry. Do we just leave him here, then go off somewhere and make introductions? I'm kinda gathering from the uniforms that you're in my regiment. Or I'm in yours."

Kaori_luv
I hope this is ok!!!!! I know we talked about knocking him out so I hope it's ok I went with it.
