News traveled faster than it really should have when it involved two things. Death and sex. So when Marcus heard that a certain life hunter had cheated on their partner, it wasn't all to surprising for him to have found out not that long after the fact. Rather what was slightly surprising was that Marcus didn't take action as soon as he heard the news. Rumors were rumors, and he did his best not to add fuel to a fire that no doubt, had some sliver of truth to it.

Sadly, in this case, the rumor was fact and Marcus had been far to optimistic about the situation.

Time spent off island was all well and good, but when he got confirmation that yes, that did happen and yes, it looked like what he'd predicted had come to pass? A promise was a promise, and a threat was a threat. Lex had done what Marcus had feared and now he'd have to carry out that nearly forgotten promise of what he'd do if Lex did what he did.

If anything, Marcus knocking on Lex's door didn't prelude much. Only that the moon hunter had no inclination to to break anything.

Lex tried his best to keep rumors from spreading. He hadn't been vocal about it to anyone, nor had he even been on Twitter for the past while. Honestly, he'd kept to himself and that was that.

But when there were only a few hundred people cramped onto one small island, news traveled far too quickly for Lex's liking.

Moving to the basement was an embarrassment, but again he made no big show of it. If there was anything Lex knew well, it was how to slip in and out of a place quickly and quietly. Unfortunately, it meant none of his nicer clothes, and the old rickety bunks. Threadbare clothes from the quartermaster, and a lack of sleep and coffee both - because the coffee in the labs was pretty much gone.

So the knocking on his door came as quite the surprise to Lex, and when the haggard Lifer opened the door, he immediately shut it on the Moon Hunter's face.

He whispered, summoning Regal to the small of his back. "Oh, God, ******** me."

Open- and he was ready to give Lex a firm talking to, and hopefully, not have to punch the man repeatedly.
Once the door was slammed in his face, the plan change.
Lex was getting the 'firm discussion' AFTER Marcus pounded his face in.

Closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, Marcus was trying his best to leash the anger he'd had building on his way to the abode, he was trying to maybe, maintain some civility. Yet it failed. And when it did, it failed in a quite violent way.

Leg brought up, boot slamming into the doorknob, the metal lock was forced from the frame, swinging open the door and offering no protection from the wrath of one very angry moon hunter. "Mistake ******** one Lex."

How many more would the life hunter make in the eyes of the moon, was yet to be seen.

In all honestly, Lex had expected as much. Count that as another dock from his pay. But in the time it took Marcus to kick Lex's door in, Lex had the opportunity to put the barrel of his gun right between where the bridge of Marcus' nose would end up.

For all his wallowing in self-pity and guilt, the Life hunter did not feel like getting his a** beat today. Not in the dorms, where it would cause a scene. Not by Marcus, who he hadn't seen in a year. He would kick his own a**, mentally, thank you very much.

"Take one ******** step, Hassan." And your brains will be my new wallpaper.

Marcus did more thank take a step.

He took a swing right at Lex's jaw.

Of course, Lex wasn't fast enough. Marcus was a full blown Hunter, and trained more. His whole thing was speed and body manipulation - Lex just had pretty boy muscle.

And Marcus' fists ******** hurt. Lex gritted his teeth against the barrage, trying to get something in edgewise - a scratch, and bite, even spitting in the man's face. But it was to no avail, and Lex ended up on the floor of his new dorm, jaw starting to swell yet again.

"Nice to see you too, Marcus." Lex sassed, pulling himself up and abandoning the pistol. The Moon wanted fisticuffs? So be it. Lex lashed out with a right cross, murder in his eyes.

Anything to distract him from braided hair and the floral notes of tea.

Lex put up a good fight- though, to Marcus, it was still pitiful. Then again, at that point, ever fiber of Lex's being was considered pitiful to Marcus. All because-
"You couldn't keep it in your ******** pants could you?" Anger laced his words, as though seemingly tangent as they were.

Hit, Marcus finched for a moment, only to come right back, grabbing at Lex to pin him and wail on him further. Violence was desired, and even in all his rage, Marcus wasn't so dumb as to want to inflict anything permanent.

"The one ******** thing I told you to never ******** do. ONE ******** THING."

Betrayal was the worst wound Lex could have made. It would dig all the deeper with every glance, every interaction. How many months had it taken Marcus to just get Ami to accept his friendship, to understand that no matter how she thought, he cared about her, about her well being. And Lex had gone and hurt her, in the one way that would do possibly, the most and worst harm.

Marcus had promised to make Lex regret it if he ever broke Ami's heart- and Marcus was nothing if not a man of his word.
"Was she worth it Lex? Was one night worth all of it?"

"You- Not the face - already - One right above the eye, and blood trickled down his vision - know- Marcus his the same spot on his jaw from before, and stars smeared with blood were all Lex saw for a few seconds- My answer!" Lex bellowed, ramming Marcus up against a wall when the opening presented itself, vision blurred from pain and blood, but Lex could still see his attacker, his materialized reckoning.

"The ******** do you even know?" Lex spat, blood dribbling from his mouth and flecks of pink saliva hitting Marcus' clothes. He didn't need to hear it from Marcus ******** Hassan, and he didn't need to be reminded of yet another promise he'd broken.

Good faith in Alexei Jamil was becoming more and more a fool's errand these days.

"You know how she is - the way she won't give you anything for weeks, then she'll toss you a morsel in the form of some backhanded compliment. You expected me to live off that?"

<< You knew it as well as he did. >>

Lex's brow twitched, and he loosed his grip on the Moon, suddenly looking away - ashamed tears welling up in his eyes.

"Apparently." His voice was cold in it's anger, his grip like steel in how it would not yeild, how even as Lex fought back, Marcus wasn't going to budge. Up against was wall was nothing new, and Marcus had that oh so nasty rage that blinded him to a fair extent.

Shoving Lex back, Marcus held his fists to his sides for a while as he looked down, (metaphorically at least), to Lex. "And that is supposed to make me feel sorry for you?" He countered. "Justify ripping apart trust, to tearing her down, to betraying her?" He sneered at the younger man.
"You wanted some other p***y, then you break it off. You don't ******** around with people's emotions, you don't ******** around when you're supposed to be exclusive."

And at Lex's request, Marcus swung right at him once more. "If you even gave a real s**t you wouldn't be so goddamn spineless!"

Marcus internally, wasn't sure what made him angrier- the fact Lex had cheated, or, the fact Lex didn't even care to try and make it right.

Something resounded in Lex with Marcus' punch, a sort of gong that woke him from his five seconds of self-pity. The need to, somehow, prove to Marcus that this wasn't about just getting into another woman's v****a- but a cry from a part of him he thought long dead.

"Spineless? What should I be doing then, Marcus? Begging at her door with roses and a ******** boombox?" Lex growled, words punctuated by the air escaping his lungs with each punch Marcus threw at him. "I ******** up, to the point where there's no making it up to her - because there is no making it up." He bellowed, countering one of Marcus' fists with a kick to the knees, "You think I wouldn't try if there were a way?"

She was his everything, God dammit, and he'd gone and thrown everything away because he'd gone and gotten a little butt hurt over something Lex already knew going into the relationship. Three years, destroyed because he couldn't pull his big boy britches up.

It wasn't good enough. And in a small way, Marcus knew nothing would be.

"So you wallow in self pity and regret." A grunt left him along with a slight fall, pain dulled by his anger at the situation. "You gave up on her." Lex kept making excuses, as if he had something to prove, to justify. But there wasn't. He'd been unfaithful. To Marcus, there was no excuse, and there was nothing left to do but seek redemption.

"I asked if you would do anything for her Lex. I asked if you could see a future with her and you told me yes. You asked how to stay loyal, how to be in love and all the other romantic bullshit." He backed off, feeling himself just drained. Drained of expecting anything at all.
"Love means compromise, sacrifice, and mostly? Becoming a team. She'll never be whole Lex. You shouldn't have tried to love a part of her that wasn't there. You should have loved the woman who she was." He was done. Done expecting anyone on the island to be anything but liars and hypocrites.

"Even if it wasn't meant to be Lex, you went and knowing did something that would hurt her. Out of everything, it's the one thing I thought was above you." He sighed. "But then, I've been wrong before."

"I didn't mean to." It was a pathetic whine, a child's excuse, and not something Lex really believed or wanted to say - but it was all he had to say. "I stopped myself short, I didn't actually <********> Maebe. I almost did - I could have... she was more than willing - but..." Lex trailed off, ashamedly looking away from Marcus.

Because Marcus, like Ami, was usually right. Lex had promised, Lex had asked the other man's advice - He'd even thought about having Marcus officiate the wedding that never happened. "I didn't want to hurt her."

He backed off, leaving a good few feet between himself and Marcus, Lex leaning against the opposite wall and keeping a blood smeared hand pressed to his eyebrow, the eye right below already starting to swell up and grow deeper shades of purple. "That's never been my intention, Marcus. You know I would never want that. I just --"

<< Your excuses are making me wretch. >>

He shook his head letting out a breath. He'd hoped for better. Wanted to think maybe it was just a mistake but no- hope was a fool's action here. It always was.
"Doesn't matter Lex. You ******** around, you ******** up, and now you get to know why I was such a hard a** on you when you got involved with her."

He moved to leave pausing only once out of the room to look mack and scowl once more. "You did want it Lex. You wanted to hurt her. If you can't see that than you're more of an a*****e than I gave you credit for." Marcus balled his fist, and with all the restraint he could muster, he left.
