Quote:
Powderstones are notorious for being extremely heavy and unwieldy to carry. A villager has requested this, can you really deny their offer?

- Your character must head into the darkest, deepest volcano interior. Magma oozes at every precipice of this dangerous area. In the smallest, floating island of non-magma touched sediment is a beautiful powderstone. It is about 6 feet tall and extremely hot. It is very difficult to carry it, let alone breathe in here.

- Your character must carry the powderstone out of the lava. Roll 1d4 three times. That is the distance (feet) you carry the powderstone.

- You must reach a distance of 30 feet to get the powderstone out. If you fail, the powderstone drops at the distance you left it at (on your third dice roll). Only other characters can help you now, by coming into the thread, and picking up the rolls. The SAME characters cannot repeat the same thread. You are free even if you carried a stone in a seperate thread, to help out in a new thread!

- Example: Steve starts, and carries the stone. He rolls 3d4 and gets 6. He carried the stone 6 feet. He now cannot post in the thread anymore and exits before he passes out. Jim can now come in to this RP (as long as they are either invited (QUEST PRP) or just hop in (QUEST ORP). Jim rolls 3d4 and gets 3. The rock is now at 9/30 feet carried. Once again, this quest is not successful until the rock has been FULLY carried 30/30 feet. If it is successful, everyone in the thread gets the +2 raffle tickets.

gaia_star If you are the person who carries the rock to 30/30 feet, you get a powderstone. it is considered a quest item. Add it to your quest item list.

In spite of the dreary murk, in spite of the cloaks, in spite of how completely weird this place was, Lyle found himself beginning to enjoy it. He couldn't recall ever having been... awake for this long, for lack of a better description, and he had made friends and helped people and... it was just a good feeling. Better than coming to in his dorm and realizing he hadn't moved in several months, at least. The boil decided to enjoy these things while they lasted, straightening perceptibly as he made that decision and floating off to find someone else to help.

He didn't expect them to need him in a volcano.

"What am I to do here again?" he asked the nearest villager, peering up at the rocky peak with a frown that he quickly smoothed from his features. He didn't want wrinkles, after all.

"Go in. Find the stone. Move it out."

It seemed easy enough in theory. In truth, how hard could it be to carry out some little stone? But going in a volcano just felt like a bad idea all around. Lyle found himself frowning again. Okay. He could do this. Inhaling with a roguish grin and a nod for his hooded companion, he slowly floated inside.

All too quickly he learned why the villagers had no desire to do this themselves. The interior of the volcano was oppressively hot, even to his partially transparent form, and the air was nearly unbreathable. Gruber had told him he didn't need to breathe anyway, but Lyle hadn't found it easy to stop his lungs from wanting to do so. He supposed it would take practice, practice he definitely wasn't getting here. The ghost sagged against the wall, dropping his feet to the ground when he found he couldn't expend the energy to float anymore. Now where was this stone?

He had admittedly been looking for something far smaller than what he ended up finding, but once he had laid eyes on the powderstone, it was obvious that it was what he was here for. It shimmered prettily a fair distance away from the small island he assumed had been its original home, and Lyle couldn't help wondering who had brought it this far and what had happened to them. Had they fallen in? Dissipated from the strain? The haunt's face did another quick expression change as he caught himself frowning again.

Lyle assessed the situation for quite some time, considering pulleys and levers and just turning around and giving up, but in the end there was nothing for it except to... just do it. He plodded forward, shoulders slumped and temples glistening with sweat and when he reached the stone he touched it reverently, somehow soothed by its warmth even though he was nearly as warm as it. He crouched low, wiggling his gloved fingers under the rock and pulling as hard as he could. At first, no matter how much he strained it didn't move at all, but when he changed his approach, grabbing it around its middle and walking it along like an addled friend, he got much farther. His undershirt was soaked through, his sabatons scuffed, and his hair undone, but Lyle felt accomplished, just as he had when he downed the sand whale. He slumped against the powderstone, sliding to the floor and sitting at its base with his back against it.

He fell asleep.

When he awoke again Lyle was outside, though he had no memory of getting there himself. As if his thoughts were audible, the first villager he had met leaned over him and said, "Good work. Ghosts are very light."

Well, at least he had an explanation for something.

Task and harder task followed, as if to test the limit of his ability, the request from the villagers became more troublesome. First was cooking a turkey, then he thwarted a sand whale, those were low level tasks. Protecting an egg after climbing a steep mountain without tool and wrangling an oversize minipet was middle-level and now get into a volcanic region and get a heavy stone out of lava?

Cool, he felt his efforts had finally been recognized. Beaming, he agreed to help with the task. Because he was AJ, he never say no to challenges no matter how difficult it was.

Entering the volcanic region, the searing on the skin surface was nostalgic. First, it was the hot air that replaced the comfortable shady and cool air. Next it was the change in color of the surrounding, everything was invaded by his favourite red. The boiling magma sometimes oozed from every edge of the path. Descending he would make out a small floating island, in the middle something - "SHINY!" Indeed, the island has a stone shimmering in the darkest. It was eye-catching when everything was reflected by a red color.

Someone had already carried a stone out and on their way back, they seemed they need some assistance.

Her cat stole a fish from the local villager and the angry villager locked her cat up and asked her to do something before she could reunite with it. She was dumbfounded when the task was moving a stone out the lava.

IMPOSSIBLE! IMPOSSIBLE! IMPOOOOOOSSSIBBBBBLLLLLLLE!

As a creature made of shadows, her weakness was light and heat and volcano was one of her least favourite places to go. The tendrils of her cloak twisted into a mess but the villagers insisted "No stone, no cat." Distressed, she walked like as if a heavy weight was chained to her, each step was laden with reluctance and worries.

Upon arrival, she shrank and cringed like a tiny mice. The heat and the strong red lights reflected from the lava made her so dizzy. She was glad she didn't need to go into the deepest part of it as someone had carried a stone out. She skittered near the one carried the heavy stone and took over the task.

It was.......really heavy for a frail ghoul like her. The heat of it made she screamed and recoiled, it seared her hands. She couldn't do it, how can she touch a hot stone like that? The ghoul shook her head and wrapped herself up with the cloak.

It rolled about one feet before it stopped.

She tried again, but smokes came from her hands. It rolled in the fall, until it stopped through the friction against the rough surface. Her pale hands hurt, blackened and blisters appeared on them. It cause much more damage than it was on a normal creepson. Borning in dark cool places, she was bad in approaching objects releasing heat radiation, especially an extremely hot powderstone.

Her Uchitels protected her nicely, she never really get hurt. She didn't want to continue, or touching the stone that brought her so much pain again. Arynek stared at the stone and her hands shook.

Face buried in hands, she seemed to hear the meow of her meowstache. The cat that condemned by the villagers, she saw them making turkey and minipet eggs for meal, the primitive village seemed to eat any kinds of minipet available. Not her cat! Not the present from Uchitels! Her meowstache wasn't food, it's her best friend and driftwood!

The tendrils from her cloak strengthened and brandished vigorously, they wrapped around the ghoul's arm and hands like a layer of protection. It was still hurt to pick it up, but through heavy breathing, she withstood the trauma and made four steps before she was exhausted. "Please save my cat." She said to the creepson she saw as she sat on the ground. She couldn't go on as her hands were severely burn and she was already panting.

As a gentleman as AJ, he never reject a ghoul's request. He gently gave the cloaked ghoul a comforting smile and told she could entrust him with the job. The face not completely hidden inside the cloak made the monster wondered if she was one of the villagers.

Before grabbing the stone, he checked on the ghoul. She looked pale and she was shaking like, in AJ's words, a rabbit. "You've done well, now please take a rest before you catch up with us." He felt like she wanted to say something, but gave up. "We'll save your cat." added AJ, heard the mumbles barely was about cat. He couldn't understand but he had a feeling saying that would ease her worries.

After the ghoul no longer frowning, he went to the stone and picked it up. It was hotter than he imagine but he didn't let go. The heat and the smell created by his singed flesh had recalled some bad memories.

The more painful the burn, the harder he wanted to fight against it. He had wrapped his arms around the giant rock and carried it. He gritted his teeth and squeezed the stone, as if it was someone he hated from his heart. He didn't want to remember him at all, when he hurt for it, he felt weak and feeble. Strength was the only thing he had and he would get rid of what made him weak, ripped it off his heart.

"Nothing can be worse than that." He told himself as he plodded forward. "Nothing." he stressed it. It felt horribly hot and sweaty, the sweats from his bang onto the stone sizzled like oil on a heated pan.

The stone felt heavier and heavier with each step he moved, but he could smell the tiny change in temperature of the air, he was close.

He was almost at his limit when he saw the boundary of the black soil, the lost of water content and the damage from the severe burn. Even though he already made a protection layer with his scales, the stupid stone was bulky and searing, as if it had been absorbing the heat from the lava. Many sweats dropped onto the surface of the powdestone and promptly evaporated into small swirls of steam. He couldn't deny that at first it was his heat that reminded him of the high temperature of the desert made him approach the demon. Unfortunately, he didn't miss his home anymore and that scene burn into his mind and occupied it whenever he felt the heat energy encircled him.

He couldn't get rid of it or erase it from his memories. His guts felt like all twisted together when he thought so. He had spent too long time moving the rock that he mused too much. Realizing that, AJ knew he'd better finish it quicker. Through his own contemplation, he temporarily zoned out for the weight and pain the stone brought him. When he went out of his own pondering maze, he was already a few steps from his destination.

One, two and the stone left the volcano.
