There were very few occasions that the frost demon would allow herself near an open fire. However, given the recent events in dealing with a nasty storm dragon, the frost demon found herself in an unfortunate situations of having a really bad hair day, as the rainwater froze upon contact with her perfectly conditioned locks.

It was not fun, dripping off the excess water that was slowly being melted off her body. Meanwhile, a certain man's clothes were hung by the fire they barely were able to get started, given the waterlogged condition of just about everything in the area. Edel was trying very hard to avert her eyes from looking in a certain direction, even though the two were seated as far as possible from each other on different sides of the room.

Their work was not done for the day, however. The villager who had been kind enough to lend them a place to stay to rest and recover also had a favour to ask of them. Most of their food for the day had been washed away, or spoiled due to the flooding.

There were only a few areas that would not have been affected by the downpour, and as soon as they were back to good condition (and dressed), the pair set out to climb yet another mountain for in search of wyvern eggs.

Finally, after a period of walking side by side without so much as speaking or looking at each other, did Edel turn to look at Ivar. There was no need for a telepathic communication for her to discern what was written all over his face.

Look at me,” she said gently, holding onto his arm and drawing him in, “I'm alright, can't you see?” It was an earnest look on her face, one that was rarely shared with him while they had tried to keep their relationship purely professional. One that was even less common recently, as she had begun to avoid him due to certain troubles... as well as tumultuous feelings of finding that certain boundaries she had set up between herself and him were beginning to crumble.

I know,” he looked down at the hand that was holding onto him, hesitating before returning the touch, taking her hand in his. “But let me help you,” he returned her gaze with one that was steady, “Just like before. There's a limit to what I can do, but-” He paused to compose his thoughts. “You don't have to hide things about yourself.

Ivar shifted his gaze to look at her hand in his. “You don't have to tell me everything. But if you do, I'll listen, whenever you want.” He smiled despite himself, trying to ease the tension.

You could begin by telling me how much a better fighter you are though,” he chuckled, loosening his hold on her.

Hm, yes. And I'll promise to protect you no matter what, my sweet prince,” she returned the banter, avoiding his gaze quickly after. She did not let go of his hand, however.

We have quite a mountain to scale,” she mentioned almost nonchalantly, though perhaps she was referring to something else not so literally as well. She turned around sharply, earning a surprised look from him. She opened her mouth to speak but closed it, instead holding up their linked hands and muttering lowly under her breath. “We might have to let go to do that though...

Their touch was separated reluctantly and the two began a slow, almost sloven ascent up the mountain.

They were no longer afforded the luxury of being intentionally blissfully ignorant of their surroundings once they arrived at their objective. Edel's hands were now literally full with dealing with the wyvern egg (much larger, and evidently tastier than the previous), on top of having to deal with a myraid of creatures that were also very keen on making it their meal as well.

She wasn't sure how she managed to win the staring contest against the giant snake, who eyed her in complete stillness as she slowly rolled the egg out of the nest and disappeared from sight.

There was a light nudge at the back of her foot, stopping the ghoul still as she turned around to look at what it was. In that moment of suspense, she could hardly express her relief at seeing that it was a mere sand crab that had scuttled by and accidentally collided into her.

As the rugged mountain scenery morphed into greenery around her, the ghoul was not any less cautious about the dangers that might possibly await, holding the egg closely to her as she tread through the forested area. A rustle in the nearby bush had set her guard up, though she was relieved to find that it was only a sand lobster that was rolling by.

The frost demon was starting to relax a little as soon as she caught sight of the base camp emerging from the clearing. She would be in for a very rude shock as she found the giant snake from before waiting, hissing lazily as it continued to stare at her as if caught in a trance.

Only did the loud shouting and tripping over its body by the excitable villagers did the snake finally break its gaze and slither away, leaving the ghoul to hand over the egg to a crowd of tearful village folk.

Ivar could not be any less thankful about how the mountain climb was being made easier by having the ghoul around. He was slowly getting used to dealing with the terrain (though made a lot more convenient with the paths she cleared and created), but the thin air and temperature still managed to have a mild effect on him.

Or perhaps he was feeling giddy from something else entirely. Who knows.

Unlike Edel he had managed to avoid staring at the 100 foot long snake completely, concentrating on his task of retrieving the egg from its nest without creating too much of a disturbance. It was difficult to ignore the fact that the nest was shared with a newly hatched baby wyvern, and that he was most certainly stealing away its sibling for it to meet what is likely, an unfortunate death by eating.

He would feel extremely sorry, but those emotions were overridden by the worry that its parents may make an appearance and proceed to tear him apart, as any parent would upon seeing their children being taken.

The next part of his descent was spent running away from a giant sand whale, one that he could not simply comprehend how it could possibly find its way onto a mountain. Luckily, the creature was pretty much something of beached whale on this terrain, with the lack of loose sand for it to swim its way through.

He wondered if the whale had somehow managed to leap onto the mountain from the sand ocean, which on hindsight, made their previous encounter with it a lot more scary.

Catching up to the ghoul as they neared the base camp, the man also had to stop his return for a moment as they dealt with the huge snake, sighing softly as it finally slithered away. He wondered to himself if they were finally done with the errands for the day, which meant that they could finally get some time alone for themselves … in the comfort of a less hazardous surrounding...
