[ Quest 1]: Interview two villagers.

Your character(s) must interview two villagers. Villagers are all cloaked for some reason. Villagers may get disinterested when you ask too many questions, your goal is to acquire as much IC information as possible. Maybe they hold the key in your leaving.

Roll 1d10 and match your dice roll to the result below. That is the response they give you to your question. Your character can ask any question they formulate with the response always being the result below. If you roll the same number, you get the same response.

1. The villager glowers at you but does not reply to your question
2. The villager seems busy chopping firewood and is fastidiously ignoring you
3. The villager turns to look at you. They wave... at someone past you.
4. The villager is fishing. They reel in an invisible fish.. or is it just nothing.
5. The villager responds with a hearty grunt.
6. The villager looks you straight in the eye. "No."
7. The villager seems glum beyond their cloak. They mutter a few words involving the terms 'despair' and 'death'.
8. The villager is too busy looking at their toes.
9. The villager is cooking roast ghost fish, it smells delicious. They take out a skewer, offer you it, and then eat it before you can accept.
10. The villager seems passed out. Maybe you should leave them alone...

“I’m back,” said Lucille as she stepped into the village square. Not surprisingly, several hooded villagers were already there and waiting.

“I’ve got the egg you wanted,”

No reply was given but there was a general show of interest as Lucille took the large egg out of her backpack. Then, one of the villagers stepped forward to retrieve the egg.

“Wait,”

The villagers paused and stared at the Reaper, hoods partially hiding their foreboding faces.

“I want answers,”

As one, the villagers began to disperse, not before the egg was taken (of course).

“Hey! Come back here!” demanded Lucille, temper threatening to erupt. “I deserve and explanation!”

Running after the first villager, Lucille grabbed his shoulder and…

“No,”

“What do you mean”No”?!” demanded Lucille with barely controlled anger. “ I had an accident, got sent to hunt food, sent up a hot air balloon, instructed to get a wyvern egg and…and…,”

Lucille knew that she sounded like a spoilt whiny brat but the Reaper could not help it. Why was the village the way it was? Why were the villagers so unfriendly?

Hadn’t most books written about rustic hospitality and stuff? So far, she had yet to see any sign of it.

“Please? At least tell me how to get the next bus out of here,”

The villager merely stared at her before moving off.

Lucille stared after the retreating figure, feeling very disappointed. What was wrong with these people anyway? Wearing those hooded robes and being all down and depressed like this. Honestly, this town did not look too bad. With a little elbow grease and a new coat of paint, this town could be pretty cheerful actually.

Lucille took another deep breath and marched towards the next closest villager. If life had taught the young reaper anything, it was that persistence paid off. Or at least scared people enough into giving you what you need.

The villager seemed to hunch even more under her determined gaze and Lucille had the impression that if he could, he would have sunk through the sand. Well, too bad he could not and now faced the full brunt of Lucille’s enquiries.

“What is going on here?”

“Why are you all so sad?”

“When is the next bus out of here?”

Her queries were only met with the villager staring resolutely at his toes.

Well, there was certainly no point in going after these lot. Perhaps there would be other villagers around who would be more sympathetic of her plight. Choosing a narrow lane, Lucille set off and soon came upon a small lake. There was a villager fishing by the lake’s bank.

“Excuse me…,”

The villager looked up, took note of the approaching Lucille and returned to her fishing.

“What are you catching?”

Once again her questions were met with silence. However, this time the silence was broken by the trashing at the end of the fishing line. Immediately the villager began to reel the catch in.

Lucille watched with interest. Despite her aggravation, the young Reaper was interested to find out just what kind of fish that the people around here caught. Perhaps if she knew what type it was and where it was usually found, she could estimate her location. Perhaps…

But what came out from the water’s murky surface was…

Nothing

“But…the line’s still jerking! Like it has got a fish on it!” exclaimed Lucille.

The villager whose line had caught the fish gave an oddly ironic smile before reaching out and plucking the invisible animal off. The invisible fish made a very visible splash into a nearby bucket though.

“Just what is happening…?” asked Lucille softly. “I’ve been to Aunt Myrtle’s place before but I have never passed through a place such as this and then today out of the blue…here I am,”

“And that fish…you can’t see it but it’s there!” continued Lucille. “And all of this fog surround the village and cutting…cutting it…off,”

The look the villager gave Lucille scared the Reaper and she backed off.

Her mind was reeling. Was it possible…?

No, no, in Halloween, one should never talk about what is possible. Impossibility here is stretched to such an extent that sometimes people claim that it did not exist.

But was it probable?

After all, hadn’t her parents told her stories about…mysterious cities and stuff that lay hidden, waiting to be uncovered? Is this it?

Or is her imagination getting the better of her?

Approaching a hooded villager, Lucille gingerly tapped him on his shoulder. “Could you tell me…,”

“No,”
