Addy stepped timidly through the woods, not altogether certain where she was headed. She had heard from several sources - and although she could not say who started it, there were only so many mouths she could hear it from - that there was good hunting out this way. While Addy wasn't hungry, and was not certain she had ever been the kind of hungry that her family could be, she was curious. What did hunting entail? There were obviously fuzzy little creatures involved, and though it sent a pang of heartache through her for the poor things, she also knew that they were sacrificing their lives to keep her family from starving. And there was nothing more important than that, especially with the way that her family had been formed.
Turning her wings into a protective shield that covered most of her body, the top of her head, and her neck and chest, Addy moved forward between the trees. She could feel twigs and branches tickling along her feathers, smell the sweet piney air. The sunlight in here was different than the sunlight out by the pond, and oh, how she longed to paint it - to catch the way those dapples moved, the way the branches swayed to change hue and shadow. She could go through great swathes of cloth just trying to find the right way of doing it, she was sure - but the dapples would be in the blues of her sister's coat. There was no way around that. If Resurrection were to stand in the forest light and let Addy paint her... A small smile pulled the corners of her mouth up at the thought.

Witness bounded through the woods with a kind of wild abandon. Epitaph was busy today, so she was having to entertain herself--a strange occurrence. He was always there with her, so it seemed kind of odd to be without him. But she would make the best of it.
Shilo had slithered it's coils around her leg before taking off. The soft hissing sounds of her little friend brought delight and joy to her heart. Shilo never went far from her, and enjoyed the feel of her coils run over with the wind while they ran.
Slowing to catch her breathe, it was then that Witness noticed something feathery and beautifully bright. Shilo blinked at her and she blinked back in companionable silence, deciding to check out who or what it was.
It was distinctly a who, a foal with wings that seemed to gleam like the sun and deepening twilight. And she had three! Most unusual for sure. Shilo let out a little hiss on her leg and they moved forward into the small clearing.
"Hellos!" She lisped excitedly.

So focused was she on capturing the green dappled light in her mind's eye that Adoration did not see or hear the approaching filly for a long time. It was only the hiss of a snake - a sound that she recognized like her own voice - that alerted her to the stranger's presence. Her eyes lit on the new filly, and Addy's shields went up, literally. Her wings raised around her, totally blocking the whole front half of her body from view. Within the feathery cocoon, Addy secretly wished she had her knife. She would never hurt anybody with it, not on purpose (except for self defense), but it was nice to be able to use it to make them go away. She'd wandered into the woods without a security blanket of any kind, having not counted on running into a stranger out here. Even with her wings over her head, Addy felt like all of her skin was exposed; her tail tucked up under her belly to hide.
A friendly, if muffled, hello came through the shield, but Addy didn't lower it.

Witness jumped back a little at the other filly's sudden movement. "I'm ssorry. Did I scare you?" She took another step back. "Am I too close?" But Shilo had a mind of her own, unfurling down her leg and moving with purpose toward the other filly.
"Ssshilo!" Witness let out a little hiss. "She might not like snakes," she felt her cheeks a little hot at making the other filly uncomfortable. She wasn't sure what to do to make it better.
So she tossed her hair lightly, "I'm Witness."
