"I'm a dreamer. I have to dream and reach for the stars, and if I miss a star then I grab a handful of clouds."
"Melina, where's the goddamn beer?!"The voice of her father was heard through the whole apartment, causing Melina to regret about living in an apartment with thin walls. Everything was heard."Melina, the bills are here! You need to pay them!" Her mother opened the door and walked in without even bothering to knock, great. She didn't even have any privacy in this house. "Bills. Today." She placed the letters of bills on the table. "I don't have that kind of money right now." She lied, even if she did have, why would she spent it on two alcoholic people. "Then get a second job." Her mother spoke coldly as if it wasn't a big deal. "I can't, I'm studying. I don't ha-.." Immediately she was cut off by her mother. "You're here to bring money, not to waste it on stupid university." And with that her mother left.
Sighing heavily, Melina dropped the pencil onto the table before rubbing her face. Her fingers moved up to brush against her soft brown hair. 'Soon, just a little more and I will be out of here.' Breathing in again, Melisa blinked as she stared at the book. Living with that kind of parents wasn't easy at all, it was hard for her. Obviously she couldn't take it anymore, that's why she was putting some of the money aside. Melina had to keep the money in her room because her parents kept her credit cards, barely letting her spend money on herself. Just a little more, the words continued to repeat in her head. Soon it will be her birthday and on that date she will be getting her payment. The payment which will give the exact amount with all the money she saved to buy an apartment for herself. Her dream was close to come true, after she will get her apartment she will find a normal job with normal hours and study like she always studied.
A second job, if only they knew what how bad it can ruin her schedule. Melisa had her schedule organized, hours that were dedicated to the university, hours dedicated to the coffee shop and a few more hours dedicated to homework. The girl had no time to breath, she always had to say no whenever her friends asked her to go out. Making excuse every time wasn't easy for her, she knew it was just ruining the friendship with her friends. But what could she tell them? She's locked in her house with her parents who took her credit cards and don't allow her to live properly? Melina couldn't say it, she couldn't let someone worry about it. Faking her feelings every time was much more easier for her. Grabbing a hold of the pencil again, Melina breathed in again. Trying to keep her calm as much as she could, right now she had homework to finish. Finally, silent. There was silent in the house and she could finally concentrate on the material. Melisa was a smart girl, she could understand everything easily if she was fully concentrated.
Melina could finally feel herself calming down, she was solving her homework easily. But it wasn't too long before she was disturbed again. "Melina!" Her father called again. "What?!" She finally answered back, raising her tone. Closing the book, Melina dropped the pencil. She made her way out to the living room and looked at her parents. They were sprawled on the couches, her father was laying on the big one while her mother was sitting lazily on the smaller couch. "What do you want from me now?!" She asked, furrowing her eyebrows. "Can't I study normally for one hour? One hour that's all I need." She tried to explain them but all they cared about was the chicken wings they were eating together. "Sitting at home, that's all you do in this house! You're being nothing but useless. A useless idiot daughter, that's what we got." Melina couldn't believe her ears, it wasn't her first time hearing it but she wasn't the one who was sitting home all day. They, her parents were the ones who sat on the damn couch for the whole day and make this apartment look like trash. She cleaned yesterday the whole apartment yet crumbs of food were all over the living room, stains of oil and sauces were seen on the couches. In the kitchen the sink was filled with unclean dishes, empty bottles and full garbage. It was disgusting.
"You were supposed to buy alcohol yesterday, where is it?" Her father spoke again, rubbing his oily fingers against the couch. "Where is it? Alcohol can be found in stores for your own knowledge" She spoke back, curling her fingers into the palm of her hand. "Oh, don't be a smartass now. Go get the damn alcohol." Her father spoke, this time raising his tone on her. "How about you? Why don't you move your a** once in a lifetime and buy alcohol? What kind of parents are you? All you do is sit on this couch and yell at me. Why don't you get a job and work for once?!" Melina couldn' take it anymore, she was furious. She was treated like trash and there's no way she will just listen to them speak. There was a moment of silence before her mother got up and slapped her across the cheek, causing Melina to widen her eyes and clench her jaw. "What an ungrateful daughter, I regret of giving birth to you. Too bad you survived this birth."
This was the last straw, Melina felt like her heart was stabbed by thousand knives. Her fingers shook slightly as they moved up to the red mark on her cheek, tears were instantly rolling down her eyes. With saying another word, Melina turned on her hill and sprinted out of the apartment. Her sight was blurry from the tears, sniffing as she tried to stop the tears as fast as she could. With one push, she slammed the door hard and ran towards the elevator. Before she could even reach the elevator, she bumped hard against someone, causing her to lose her balance and fall backwards on her arse. "F***!" Melisa called with anger, clenching her teeth. "Watch where you going!" Even though she was the one who bumped into him, she still let her anger out on him. But it wasn't his fault, it was her parents fault.

Noise. That's all he could hear was noise. It could be two in the morning and yet still he would hear those loud mouthes screaming at the top of their lungs at one another and it was driving him utterly insane. When it had all started, Christopher had asked them politely to keep the noise level down and they complied without question. And then they fell right back into the same routine the following day. Gentle visits had turned into daily complaints and he had sworn that if they didn't learn to control themselves he would get the landlord involved. He kept to his word and the landlord had only done as much as give them a warning. Which served no justice whatsoever.
"There they go again," Kristen, his girlfriend, mumbled under her breath. The man could only shake his head dismay as he lowered his cup of steaming hot coffee from his lips to set it on the table. "What am I to do? I've tried reasoning with them. I've gotten the landlord involved. What's next? The cops?" Christopher only wanted to read the morning paper in peace. Was that so much to ask for? Upon hearing the soft padding of footsteps behind him, the man turned his head slightly just as a pair of fragile arms wound themselves gently around his neck. Just Kristen's touch alone was enough to calm his nerves. He felt her lips press against the side of his head and he allowed a faint smile in return. "There's no need for that, sweetie. I will talk to them. Maybe they just don't like you," she teased, and he could practically hear the smile in her voice as she turned to walk back to the kitchen.
"They wouldn't be the first..." Christopher lifted his mug to his lips for another sip. He glanced at the time on his silver watch after a moment and stood up to head into the kitchen. "I should go. I have a conference meeting in half an hour," he informed and set his mug in the sink and his paper on the counter. Christopher had recently been transferred to yet another rather prestigious university and would be teaching multiple courses - sociology and psychology. McMaster University was a beautiful place that was envied by many people. Only the best of the best attended and the professors had quite the reputations, including Christopher. The man was a genius and his teaching techniques were admired by many.
Kristen, as he was rinsing out his coffee mug, circled her arms around his waist with a pout. "You're always gone," she complained. He supposed he could sympathize. She worked from home while he was out of the house all day every day. They were scarcely able to see one another. With an inward sigh Christopher turned around and enveloped her warm cheeks with his hands. He locked his gaze with hers, expression solemn. On too many occasions had Kristen convinced him of taking a break although her tactics were not going to work this time. "You know just as well as I do that we need the money. Indolence is no longer an option for us, Kristen..." he tried to explain. There were bills that had to be paid and Christopher was their primary source of income. He had to work.
It took some convincing for Kristen to finally let him go. He gathered his suitcase and car keys and headed out of the apartment towards the elevator, but was soon greeted by someone clashing into his back. The abruptness of it caught him off guard and he stumbled forward, bracing his hand against the wall before turning around with this mixed look of shock and confusion plastered onto his face. "Watch where I am going? You ran into me." It took him a second to register that she had fallen to the ground and he clenched his jaw in annoyance as he grabbed her arm and hoisted her back up. Her eyes were red and puffy, obviously from crying, although Christopher just did not care. He only looked down at his watch and scowled. "Thank you for making me late." And with that, he turned and headed in the direction of the elevator once more. Stupid girl.

"I'm a dreamer. I have to dream and reach for the stars, and if I miss a star then I grab a handful of clouds."
"Because you were in my way!" Furrowing her eyebrows, Melina glanced up at the man who easily hoisted her back up to her feet. Her hand reached up to wipe the tears off her face, rubbing her eyes slightly. Just when she was about to take a better look at the man, he was already heading to the elevator. "I'm sorry..?" She called through the hall before sighing. Melina just stood there for a few moments, she couldn't go out because she had no shoes on but at the same time she didn't want to go back home. Standing there for a few more moments, Melina rested her back against the wall of the building. She was trying to clear her head, focus on planning a new schedule.
Eventually, Melina returned into the apartment. Of course her parents had to throw a comment towards her but she continued to her room and locked herself there for a few hours. The first thing she did was to finish her homework, it took her a few good hours to finish it but eventually she finished it all. Even the delayed assignments that she was supposed to hand last week. She wasn't sure if her professor will accept the delayed assignment but she hoped he would, it will definitely raise her grade. At least that's what she hoped for..
In the evening, Melina went to work in the coffee store near the building she lives. After five hours of working, her shift was over. Grabbing her stuff, Melina said goodbye to the manager before she exited from the coffee shop. As for the rest of the night, she wandered in the city in order to find a second job. Knowing her parents will keep bugging her with it, she decided to find a second job. Unfortunately, luck wasn't on her side. Most of the jobs didn't fit her time, or didn't need any employers. The only jobs available were a bartender and a stripper, Melina couldn't take both of them because she had no idea how to mix drinks together and as for stripper, she definitely didn't dare to think about taking this job. Tucking her hands into the pockets of her pants as she continued to walk..
--Time Skip--
One the next day, Melina woke up exhausted. She barely got any sleep because of the tv in the living room, her parents literally didn't move their damn arses. They left it on for the whole night with high volume, not allowing her fall asleep easily. Sitting up on her bed, she rubbed her eyes before getting out of the bed. Melina walked into the bathroom. Finishing all of her errands there, she headed back to her room. Melina changed into a pair of black yoga pants, gray t shirt and a pair of black army like boots. With a ready outfit, Melina brushed her hair and let her wavy hair fall down her shoulder. Placing all of her things into her black bag, Melina closed the bag and thew one strap over her shoulder before she exited from the apartment.
"Mel! Are you listening to me?" Her friend asked with a concered tone, Melina wasn't with her at all. She was too tired to listen, too tired to do anything. "Yeah, sorry. I'm just a little sleepy." She rubbed her eyes with her hands again before blinking to look at her. "Anyways, I heard we will be having a new professor.Mark had to retire so they're bringing new professor. If he's hot, I'd totally stay focused on his classes." Melina showed a small smile as her friend laughed at her own comment. When they made it to the class, Melia took out the delayed assignment and placed it on the professor's desk. Making sure her name was written there, she made her way to her seat. Soon the professor entered the room and everyone went silent. The lesson started smoothly, Melina was able to focus on the material. She even wrote down small notes for herself but at one point she decided to put her arms and head down on the table, not a minute passed and she was already asleep. It's not that the class was boring, she was just too tired.
