The night sky was clear but little of the stars could be seen from the well lit sidewalk that Gwen found herself on. Did she know where she was at? Well...not entirely. She had a general idea. She knew which direction to head if she wanted to head home, but overall this evening had been dedicated to getting 'lost'. What better way to learn your way around a new city? None in Gweneth's book. It was like a mini adventure to her. She had made a home for herself in her small apartment in the city. She had managed to score a first floor apartment that had a small outside yard attached to it. Oh, did she have plans for that yard. For now though it served as a wonderful area for her little sheltie, Reilly to enjoy. She was far too busy getting the apartment itself liveable and learning the layout of Destiny City. So, having decided not to spend the evening sewing up new curtains, which she desperately needed, Gwen had ventured out. She'd been gone for at least two hours already. She'd stopped in a few stores, a coffee shop and stopped to talk to a few locals. With the sun having set though she had contemplated on heading home. That was when she heard about a local library that she apparently wasn't too far from. Hence her heading in the opposite direction of her apartment. The tall building loomed ahead when Gwen turned the corner. It wasn't hard to spot. It certainly had a library-esque look to it with the bricks and well placed gargoyle like statues. She gazed at him, marveling in the structure as she got closer. She paused at the entrance way. The lights inside were dim. "Closed." She murmered to herself, as she looked around the doors for a sign with the hours on it. Upon finding it she pulled a small notepad out of her purse and jotted down the days and times. Brushing stray red hair from her face she slipped the note pad back into her purse before gazing back up at the facade. "Probably one of the nicer buildings I've seen today." A gentle breeze ruffled her skirt causing her to instinctually lower a hand to keep the steel blue fabric in place and not rise up to give any passerby's a show. "I should head home."

Merlinite had come out from his hiding spot, his home under the library, and locked the door behind him. He stretched and spread his wing out, yawning and flexing his claws as he did so. He was just waking up from a rather nice rest, getting used to his sleeping schedule by now.
So he was nocturnal now. It was not the biggest change he'd faced.
Hearing someone talking, he leaped up and clung to the side of the library, crawling up it to avoid being seen immediately by anyone below. He was about the same level as the second story as he crawled over to peer around the corner, spotting the girl at the front door.
The library was closed, Camelot's powerful aura radiating from above. He was about to start his nightly patrol, but Merlinite was too curious about the girl talking to herself to hurry up there and join him. He tilted his head, swinging his tail behind him as he watched her.
"Probably," he said, before he could catch himself.

Normally Gwen was use to hearing voices around her. It wasn't all that odd when one was surrounded by a constant flow of passer by. But here in Destiny City, well, it wasn't anything like the Big Apple. People didn't flood the sidewalks here. In fact, she had been pretty damn sure that she was alone so when they voice came out of nowhere, Gwen startled slightly. She turned and looked behind her but...no it had come from her side. She was sure. She glanced to the right where she had thought the voice had come from but didn't see anyone. She furrowed her brows before putting her hands on her hips. "It's not nice to startle someone like that you know. If you want to talk you should just come out so I can see you. Don't hide in the shadows like some coward." Gwen really didn't like being toyed with and she wasn't a gal who'd keep her opinion to herself either. Though she could come across as brash to some.

Merlinite knew he had made a bit of a mistake here, but when someone was talking to themselves it was very hard not to reply. He had always been a pretty sarcastic type, so he could not pass up a chance to mess with someone.
Especially now that he was more used to who and what he was. A lot of his old nature was coming back to him, which was a good feeling. It reminded him he was still pretty human.
Just with a wing. And some horns. And a tail.
"Uh, well, I'm not a coward, per se," he said thoughtfully, swishing his tail behind him as he clung to the side of the building. "but you might turn into one if you saw me. It's probably better if you don't. It's pretty dark and dangerous out here. Why are you out so late, lady?"

Not budging from her spot, hands still on her hips Gwen hmphed. "I really don't think it's any of your business why I am out here. Besides, this City isn't a place I'd call dangerous. There's hardly a soul around. Just weirdo's like you who try to spook lone women at night." Gwen was not at all thrilled with the fact that some man was hiding in the shadows talking to her. Not to mention he had startled her then insinuated she may turn and run when he shows himself. She had never run from a man yet out of fear and Gwen highly doubted that this, this....phantom man was going to change that by merely walking out into the light. "Now, why don't you get yourself into the light, wherever you are, so I know I am not talking to some bygone ghost." Now that was something that Gwen certainly believed in. It came with the heritage and upbringing. When you had two Irish parents who were quiet set in their beliefs and fashions their kids were likely to grow up quite similar.

"It's not, is it?"
Merlinite wondered if he should teach her a lesson. He was running into far too many brazen civilians these days, and he was sure they were going to get themselves killed. Or corrupted.
"You really want to see me, huh? Don't say I didn't warn you."
He let his words growl out from his throat, though they were more caught on a laugh than anything sinister. he had no intention of hurting her, just interested in her stubbornly brave attitude. She had to be new here, if she thought Destiny City was a safe place. That, or she lived some place like... the Rift? A shooting range? In the woods with a wolf pack?
Climbing down a bit, he moved across the building into a splash of light on the bricks, tilting his head at her. He swung his tail and spread his wing for effect, lifting one claw off the wall to wave at her.

Gwen was certain no matter what this guy did that she'd be far from impressed let alone frightened. With her arms folded across her chest she stood and waited for him to show himself. Now, like any normal human being, Gwen expected the man to walk out of the shadows and into the light beside her. Maybe stroll or at most shuffle out in an attempt to frighten her. What she had -not- been expecting was to see movement on the wall. Her mouth dropped open and arms fell as she stood there staring at...whatever it was. It was like a horror movie come to life in Gwen's mind. No where. Absolutely no where had she ever seen anything like it before besides in horror flicks. Where else would you find a human-esque being with reptile limbs and wings. That stuff just didn't exist in real life! Yet, here he was staring at her and waving. "What the..." She backed up, nearly falling backwards on the few steps that led to the library entrance but caught herself in time. "You have to be messing with me right now." She murmured softly as she continued to stare at the....thing.... Her shock though eventually settled down to a healthy mix of fear and intrigue. "What the hell are you?"

Merlinite watched her as she stumbled backwards. There was nothing about her reaction that he was not expecting: no matter how tough people pretended to be, they had no idea what was out there. Sure, he was probably being dumb, just showing himself in all his monstery glory to a civilian, but it was a lesson she clearly needed to learn.
There were dangers out in the night that she could never understand, not unless she was in the war herself.
"What? I thought you said you weren't easy to spook. Now you look like you've seen a ghost. Or maybe a monster, hm?"
He remained on the side of the building, using his claws to keep his balance, grinning at her and not doing anything to suggest he was going to attack. He would never go that far, even if he was just having some fun and scaring her for the sake of it.
At her question, he offered her a shrug.
"My name is Dennis."

His mocking rubbed Gwen the wrong way and she gave him a look that said she was not at all amused. "Well, it wasn't like I was expecting a monster to just spider crawl across a building like something out of a horror movie. So yes, I think it's fair to say I was startled." Taking a breath Gwen worked to compose herself a bit more when it was apparent he wasn't about to jump down at her and attempt to attack or eat her or whatever it was that monsters did. According to many horror flicks there was a lot he could do if he wished. That is, if anyone took horror movies seriously. "Alright...Dennis..." She was a bit put off by his rather unintimidating name. "I am not going to lie, I was expecting something more..." She waved her hand in front of her as she tried to think of an appropriate word. "terrifying. Dennis is just...boring." Despite her bravado, Gwen certainly didn't take any steps towards Dennis. She was quite fine with the space that seperated them right now. Flicking her braid over her shoulder she crossed her arms in front of her. "So...you've given me your name but -what- are you?"

"Aw, come on now, you don't know I'm a monster," he said, swishing his tail behind him and watching her curiously. Of course, he had given her every reason to think so, considering his whole greeting had been an effort to scare her.
An effort that paid off!
But he was not a bad guy, not really. Despite being half consumed by Chaos, he was actually a pretty gentle soul.
"Yeah, well. You could call me Merlinite, if you wanted, but I don't go by that any more. What I am is a little too complicated to explain, but I can tell you that it's because I wasn't very careful, and didn't really heed warnings of danger, either. Things in this city aren't what they seem, and are definitely not safe at night. You should be careful."

"Well you sure as hell look like one." She huffed. "Why don't you stop...hoovering there like some kind of spider or something and at least stand on the ground?" Gwen hoped that maybe if he was on the ground he'd at least seem more human than beast. Ya know...if you over looked the claws, horns, scales and wing. Hm...must suck to have only one wing. Bet it's pretty worthless. Hell, if I had to have them might as well be useful instead of decorations. She raised a brown at him. "Merlinite? Yea, I'll stick to Dennis. Makes you at least sound more mundane. Besides, are you telling me someone just snuck up behind you in the middle of the night and turned you into..." She gestured to him with her hand. "This? I am sorry but I find that very, very hard to believe." Then again, here she was talking to a half dragon-man so why was the idea of someone magically turning him into something like that bizarre? A girl has to hang on to some bit of reality she knows."I am a big girl, I think I can handle myself." Gwen may never have had to defend herself before, well, not outside of learning how to defend herself, but she felt pretty confident in her skills.

"Spider? I am a dragon. Sheesh."
He moved to let go of the building, though, swinging his body so his two clawed feet landed first. He crouched down, arms resting on his knees, tail swinging behind him as he looked up at her. He was taller as a half youma than he had been as a human, so he did not have to look up too much even in this position. His wing curled close to his back, resting.
"Well, it wasn't that sneaky, but yeah, that's how it happens. There are things in the darkness that want to hurt you, or kill you, or make you like them. Maybe not like this, but not much better. Evil things, that don't care about you, and won't waste their time talking to you like I am."
He was oddly serious now, his voice quiet but intense for it. He watched her with his sharp eyes, though he had a feeling she was going to be just as tough and stubborn no matter what he said. It was good for her, in one way, but he knew the trouble it could bring to not be cautious. Or at least aware. Whatever else happened, at least he had warned her.
"I hope that's true. That you can handle yourself. You never know when you're going to have to."

Yep. Definitely not any more human-like on the ground. She stood there for a moment as she attempted to overlook all of the bead-like features and focus on the human ones. It wasn't easy, not in the least, but Gwen did find if she focused mostly on his face it was easier to look past the other...things. She opened her mouth as if to respond, but the oddly serious tone in his voice caused her to pause a moment. Unconciously she folded her arms in front of her as a small shiver ran down her spine. If anyone else had said something remotely close to what Dennis had just stated she would have brushed them off completely. She certainly wasn't going to outright say anything though. Gwen would take the warning and file it away for future thought. Raising her chin a bit she smiled. "Well considering I've come from a city that I would say is a bit more intimidating a scary than Destiny City, I think I'll be fine." And it was true. Coming from the Big Apple, Gwen felt she could handle just about anything thrown at her despite her complete lack of experience when dealing with threatening situations. Unfolding her arms Gwen gestured nonchalantly at Dennis. "So...is this how you go about picking up women around town? Scaring them and then warning them of possible dangers so they look to you for protection?" Her tone was light and joking as she attempted to change subjects.

"Oh yeah, I get laid a LOT, looking like this. Chicks really dig the climbing on the wall thing, and particularly the tail. Am I right, or what?"
He grinned, though it faded pretty quickly. He watched her for a moment, then shook his head and waved a clawed hand.
"Look, I'm just saying, be careful out here, eh? And yeah, if you do need protection, then I can always show up and help. That's what I do now, anyway, but still."
He clicked his clawed toe against the ground for a moment, then moved to climb back up the wall.
"I'll leave you to your definitely not dangerous night wandering, then. There's probably other ladies out there that will be more receptive to my incredible charms." Really, he would keep an eye out for her, just in case, because he was ultimately just a sweet heart dragon.

"Well who am I to judge what turns other people on." She shrugged. "I am sure there are people into that sort of thing." She returned his grin before running a hand over her head and down her braid in an unconscious need to do something with her hands. "I am a careful as any lone woman walking the street by herself at night. Besides it's not like I can just whistle or something and expect you to come running." She paused for a moment. "You're a dragon...not a dog." She watched him as he shifted to begin climbing back up the wall. It was....intriguing and surreal to watch a human do something like that. A part of her brain was dead certain that this whole encounter had been a dream. "Yea, I am sure no other woman won't be freaked out by a half dragon half man walking up to them." She chuckled lightly. "But, if it makes you feel better I am just going to head home for the night. I think I've reached my quota of exciting things tonight." Turning she walked down the steps to the side walk and glanced back at Dennis. "Thank you for the warning though. Have a good night."
