Zumei was freezing. No, freezing was an understatement. Freezing was two hours ago when she'd lost feeling in her nose and all but given up on the hope of finding a warm spot to rest. Now she was just numb. She had thought traveling to Zena would be fine as long as she had a cloak, but she had really been underestimating just how horrid the weather could be even without it being winter. She'd just wanted to travel out of Sauti for a little bit, but obviously she had picked the wrong place to go. Cold and lost, she could really only hope someone would find her before she froze in place. Stomping her feet to try and warm herself up, she managed to make her way over to a tree before completely falling over.

"Looks like I should have listened about what they said. Zena weather really is so much worse than Sauti weather," she chuckled, trying to stay out of the cold in some way.

Hope this works. Zumei is a nerd and likes to get herself into danger. :v

Every day, Aldren had to come up with a reason for why he liked Zena. Yes, his home, his family, his friends were here, but that hardly facilitated a reason for him to actually like the place. He stayed because he was needed, not because he loved his home. But rather than stay somewhere that was so very easy to despise, he searched for reasons to like it. The sky was beautiful. Every night when the sun set, the sky was painted in rich golds, fiery reds, and vibrant purples. It was beautiful. The mountains seemed to go on forever. The snow was so fresh on a consistent basis, that even the paths he'd trekked a hundred times seemed new. It kept things interesting.

Usually.

Aldren blinked down at the unsteady tracks veering off sharply from his village. He hadn't realized anyone else came out this way. Even the other villagers seemed to have fairly routine paths that they trekked. And this wasn't one of them. Curiosity ate at him, so, with a slow roll of his shoulders, he followed them. It was no great span of distance before he came upon a huddled figure, tucked beneath the scraggly, gnarled branches of a dying tree. It wasn't an animal, and it didn't seem overtly pleased by its predicament. "Erm, hello?" Aldren asked hesitantly, crouching down to give the thing's- the girl's shoulder a poke.

Zumei was freezing, but was thankfully still coherent enough to realize someone was there. She had been saved! At least she hoped. There was always the chance that the person would take her things and leave her there, but seeing how they hadn't done that yet she was still being as optimistic as she could be while nearly freezing to death. She really hoped this person wasn't stuck out there like her. Maybe they were an ice earthling coming to her rescue. It was all so hard to tell. Reaching up, she patted the hand that touched her shoulder.

"Are you here to rescue me?" she attempted to joke, but it came out more as a hopefully whisper than anything else. How long had she been out there now? She knew that she was numb, and that she had started out when the sun was still bright, but as for an exact amount of time there was no telling. "I-if you could just g-give me a blanket or something I can continue on. No need to worry." She was lying, but she didn't want to bother this person who had potentially come to her rescue. If they could just get her turned in the right direction she could hopefully find where she needed to go.

Aldren jumped a bit as a hand reached up to pat against his. The first bit that sprang out at him was her lack of gloves. Even in the slightly more mild chill of the warmer months, how could anyone expect to go around wearing so little and not get frostbite? He gave a quick glance around, wondering if she'd journeyed here with companions or if she truly was alone. Upon seeing no one, he stooped down to her side. "I could be," he retorted back teasingly. Definitely a girl. Fair skinned from what he could see. A Wind lass up from Sauti? Surely she should know better than to wander so far north with so little protection...

He shifted back, enough to unzip the thick fabric of his outer coat and tug it off before draping it gently over her frame. "You really are a touch in over your head, I think," Aldren hummed. It wouldn't due to let her wander about on her own, anymore. There was always that chance no one would find her, and she'd freeze to death. He shook the thought away. If it were up to him- and it was, in this case- that wasn't going to happen. He leaned in, touching his fingers to her sides. "I'm going to pick you up, alright?"

Not trying to do anything weird or unsavory. Just hoping to help you. Without waiting for much of a response, he tucked his arms beneath her and lifted her to his chest. He wasn't the strongest or most sure-footed of his race, but he had height, and that had to be worth something. "It really is dangerous to be wandering about in the snow with little more than a cloak," he scolded.

"Just what I needed. A big, strong ice man to come to my rescue," Zumei muttered, too cold to fight him. Normally she would say she could handle herself and stand just fine, but it would be a sad attempt at a lie. They both knew she could hardly move, and if he didn't save her she would surely freeze to death. The warm coat being draped over her had been a surprise, and she had been mildly concerned about his own state now that he was out of it. He was an iceling, surely he was used to this weather, but that didn't stop her from worrying about him. The weather was still harsh in the hotter months, she had found that out the hard way. If he got frostbite or something because of her needing rescued she'd feel terrible.

"You should take your coat back. What if you get cold?" she questioned, her voice muffled as she settled in against his chest. He was warm and nice. She didn't mind cuddling up against him so much at the moment, but she knew she probably shouldn't. "I know I really didn't think things through, but I just wanted to come to Zena and see everything. And I didn't have enough money for warm clothes."

Aldren couldn't even begin to hide a rumble of amusement at the girl's words. A big, strong Ice man? Hardly. But he was grateful and highly entertained that she thought so. It wasn't far home, but the snow made the trek more difficult, and he wasn't accustomed to carrying anyone larger than his little sister. By the time his steps started faltering, the house was already in view. "It's just an overcoat," he hummed at her question. "I'll be plenty warm without it, and I don't expect to keep you out any longer than necessary." He struggled with the door, trying not to jostle her while scrambling at the handle until he could nudge it open with the toe of his boot.

"It's a silly thing to go anywhere if you can't go prepared," Aldren hummed as he sat the Wind woman in front of the fire. From her chair, his little sister gave an inquisitive quirk of her eyebrow, but with a soft scoff and a shrug, returned to her book without any questions. "Anyway, wanting to see a new place isn't worth risking your life over. You really should've turned back long before you got that stuck, don't you think?"

Zumei was happy to be someplace warm after being out in the cold. While she knew her entire plan had been dangerous, her determination to continue on had overrode her common sense on the matter. Like it usually did if she was being honest. If she thought she could push herself then she would do it even if there were potentially bad consequences. It was just how she was. Her father always told her it was going to get her into trouble one of these days, but she'd been safe so far! He just didn't want her going to search for Korra or seeing the rest of the world. He'd much rather her stay close to him so he could keep a watch on her.

"Well it looks like I got lucky again and it wasn't too big of a problem. Maybe I'm just a lucky person," she shrugged, rubbing her hands together to try and warm them. "Though I suppose I was maybe sort of pushing it. Just a little. But since you saved me and all I won't have to be an icicle thankfully."

Aldren blinked, then snorted in amusement. "I'm not so sure if hoping and expecting someone to save you is a great way to go about things," he told her, managing to sound half-serious. Really, the situation was a dire one, nothing to laugh about. She really could've been lost to the snows forever. But she wasn't. They were both fine and both here, and when she was ready to take her leave, Aldren would be able to escort her safely to the border. He gave a shrug and moved to prepare a warm drink for his unexpected guest.

From her chair, Seph looked between them. It was becoming ridiculously common to find other girls in the house. A different one each time. The youngster's lips puckered, and she snapped her book closed, loud enough to hopefully get the stranger's attention. "Hello," she greeted as formally as her sitting state would allow. She may have caught the drift of the story, but it still seemed peculiar for a stranger to be wandering the mountains. "My name is Sepharine," she greeted. "And I wonder what's brought you so far out here? While wearing... so little."

"Ah!" Aldren piped as he set a kettle of water over the flame. "That's rude of me... My manners are slipping. I'm Aldren. It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am." He dipped his head politely, enough so that he missed the disbelieving look his kid sister shot him. He carried this woman into the house without even knowing her name?

"Oops. I guess I forgot to introduce myself as well, huh? I guess the cold has already gotten to my brain," she joked, looking between the two of them. "It's nice to meet you both. I'm Zumei. The silly wind that decides it's a good plan to run into the snow and get lost." It hadn't really been her plan or anything to get lost, but she should have thought it through a bit better. That was her, always running forward and not thinking with her head. It was a wonder she was still alive after all her close calls, but there she was still kicking.

"Well, to be honest miss Sepharine I don't know why I'm out so far. Just sort of wanted to get out. Hadn't planned on getting lost. That was a bit interesting. Luckily your big brother is a kind soul and decided to help me instead of letting me freeze," she continued to say, nodding thankfully over at Aldren as she mentioned him rescuing her.

Aldren's a dummy. =w= I'm sorry.

Sepharine was not amused in the slightest. Her lashes dipped to half-mast, gaze turning impassive. What a reckless creature. It was girls like this that didn't deserve to procreate. And they certainly didn't deserve her older brother's kindness and attention. Aldren was far too forgiving and much too easy-going. Surely the girl had a mother who'd give her a good scolding for this absurd and thoughtless behavior. Seph sighed. It wasn't her place to say anything of it, though. Surely in time, she'd get what she deserv- "Ugh!"

Aldren tousled his little sister's hair, disturbing her thoughts and the glare she cast at the Wind woman. "Mind yourself, Sepharine," he scolded with a quick laugh before turning his attention back to the other girl, Zumei.

"Anyone in their right mind would've helped you," he assured. "Or at least, they should, anyway." He gave a nonchalant shrug. "Besides, it was a learning experience! Now you know what's waiting out here, hm? Cold, snow, wind, and-" He gave her a quick wink, accented by a toss of deep blue curls. "-me. At your service."

Zumei couldn't help but chuckle at the ice lad, nodding in agreement. It really had been a learning experience, one she wouldn't soon forget. She was very happy Aldren had showed up to rescue her freezing self. She wasn't so sure someone else would have helped her. She didn't really have too much faith in the greater good of people. With most everyone warring with each other, kindness was a bit uncommon these days.

"Really, I'd like to repay you somehow. Taking me in like this must really be cramping your style, huh? Especially your sister's," Zumei chuckled, knowing Sepharine had been giving her dirty looks the whole time. Then again she had every right to. She'd invaded her home really without warning.

"Maybe I could help clean or do some of the labor for you? When my limbs aren't freezing I promise I'm a lot stronger."

You might give him a swelled head. =w=

He probably should've asked if she liked tea or coffee or cocoa. Aldren didn't really know what she'd like to put in this boiling water. But he hadn't, and it seemed too late for choices now. After collecting mugs from the cabinet and pouring each full of steaming herbal tea, he moved over to the girls and handed off a ceramic cup to each of them before taking his own and settling in a perch on the floor.

"'Repay,'" Aldren repeated, blinking bemusedly back at Zumei. "No, that's nonsense. I'd never ask for such a thing and really I've no intention of keeping you from your home for-"

But Sepharine stopped him with a harsh "Apupup!" And a pat on the head. "You didn't ask, she offered, and I think it's a good idea. More people should pay their dues." Her attention turned to the girl. Seph's golden eyes narrowed on her. "You must be fairly stupid, so I don't rightly know-"

"Sepharine..." Aldren grumbled in quiet reprimand. There really was no need to be anywhere near that rude.

"-so I don't know if I really trust you with my food... Still, I'm curious what types of dishes Wind nomads enjoy, so please," There, she'd been polite. "Repay my brother by making us dinner."

"As you wish, princess," Zumei replied, rolling her eyes at the younger girl. She had a ton of things she wanted to reply with, but she had to bite her tongue on the matter. This wasn't her home and they had willingly let her stay instead of kicking her out. There was no point in making them angry by saying something rude now. Unfortunately, as far as dinner went she had no clue on what to do. Most of the time she hit up bars and ate bread and soup. Now she was supposed to cook a decent meal? Why couldn't they have picked manual labor?

"Yeah, I suppose I can do that. Though to be honest I haven't really been home in a long time. I'm not even sure if I know any recipes...." she trailed off, glancing over at Aldren for a moment. She had to repay him somehow. He'd been so nice to her, plus she'd never live it down if she disappointed the two of them.

"I'll figure out something. Promise. It shouldn't be too hard."

Aldren sighed softly and took a long, slow sip from his mug. Girls were the most combative of creatures. He could practically feel his younger sister's indignant puff at his back. 'Princess,' indeed. It didn't sound all that insulting to him, and it wasn't like a great many other people called Seph any such thing. But somehow, the word still managed to strike the younger girl as negative, and she responded in like: "If I'm a princess, and you're to be making my dinner, that must make you a servant. Servants should talk less and work more. Shoo, shoo," she huffed softly, waving the Wind woman toward their kitchen area.

Aldren didn't exactly like the sound of 'figuring something out.' He swallowed, set his mug on the nearby coffee table, and stood from the ground. He probably should make another attempt at admonishing Seph, not that it had gone very well so far.

Instead, he ignored the younger female, and instead took hold of Zume's arm, gently tugging her from their living quarters, and toward the wood-burning stove in the kitchen. "Don't stress over it," he murmured once they were out of immediate earshot. "You don't owe me anything, and you shouldn't feel obligated to comply to the wants of children. If you would like, you may assist me, though...?"

"Sorry, I really do want to help. I'm just not exactly good at anything but fighting. I could defend your honor all day long, but you give me anything else and I struggle," she shrugged, attempting to be casual about the situation. She didn't necessarily enjoy admitting defeat so easily, but she figured it best to be honest with him about not knowing how to cook. She'd hate to make something ridiculously awful and potentially kill him and his sister. Really Aldren was being far too kind to her little wandering self, and she didn't exactly know how to handle it.

"So oh sagely one, what grand creation are we going to make for the princess?" Zumei grinned, nudging him gently with her elbow. At least he was an easy sort to get along with.
