Agility Course The Agility Course is a fan favourite of Trine Weyr where the smaller dragons race around the Weyr's immediate grounds demonstrating their speed, agility, accuracy, and well, all of the fun a smaller dragon can have. This course is unique to the smaller colours because the physical demands simply cannot be match by the larger colours – too many injuries would result. This, of course, creates a deep rivalry between the large and small dragons for the duration of the Dragon Games and occasionally a large dragon can be goaded into trying something it shouldn't, or a small dragon dared to exhaust itself. It's a time of friendly rivalries and spirited success, with several rounds occuring daily to accomodate all of the would-be champions. The top three competitors are often considered the best of the Light Weights and often sought out for everything from mentorship to special courier jobs and Search requests. The actual competition itself is an agility course set up around Trine, with close quarters flying, precision Betweeing, speed sections, and stunt areas. There is no 'best spot' for viewing because the dragons stream around the Weyr in what almost looks like a dance! Only Green, Blue, or Black Dragons May CompeteHow to Compete: All Dragons roll 3d4s with each post. They're rolling to match a target dice (1d10) rolled by the Staff with at least one of the dice rolled by the dragon. For target values greater then 4, a sum of 2 or more dice can match the target value. There are 5 areas of competition: Area 1 : Precision Flying – the Dragon must fly between tall woven pillars that move with the wind, make the right-hand turn, and grab the Target Ball that's very low to the ground without knocking over anything. Area 2 : Precision Betweening – the Dragon must Between exactly 1 Dragon Length above the ground and 1 Dragon Length away from a target pole, then exactly 2 dragon lengths away, and then 3 dragon lengths away. Area 3 : Speedway – the Dragon must make a dash for it from one designate point to another as fast as they can. Area 4 : Precision Control – a Dragon must add a large stone block to the top of a narrow pillar without knocking the pillar over or dropping the block. Area 5 : Free-style Stunts – the Dragon can demonstrate 2 stunts of their choosing. Each dragon has 2 attempts at each Area. Doubles are Stunts (inspired by Wil Wheaton's Titans Grace) and are fancier successes. What Stunt Means: When you roll doubles, it means in the In-Character world, your character did something extra-acrobatic, skillful, risky, or otherwise showy and pulled it off. What it is, exactly, depends on the individual character! If you don't stunt, it means you've done an average job of competing the task and weren't very showy or didn't quite pull off the stunt you were trying do yet managed to succeed. You still need to match the target number, but the double don't have to be the target number. (Ie: Target is 3, Roll was 4, 4, 3. That's a match and a stunt!; Ie: Target was 5, Roll was 2, 3, 3. That's a match (2+3) and a stunt (3, 3)!) Every dragon has 3 'Close Calls', poorly executed Tricks. You gain 1 each time you cannot match the number. Every dragon also have 3 'Trained-For This!', +/-1 boosts that allow a character to add or subtract one to one of their rolled dice. If a dragon gains 3 Close Calls, they're out. After all 5 areas, 1st place goes to the individual who has the fewest Close Calls and the best showing.

Dragonflight Pern Requesting roll for 1st event. <3 She had just finished the event with Tris and heard the announcement for the agility contest. They had just done the bonded course the other day and had done relatively well, at least she had thought so. She wondered if Reciproth was ready but she should have known better to even wonder it because she could feel her dragon within her mind instantly. 'Oh mine. You know I'm ready. I've been preparing for this since before dawn.' She chuckled as she shielded her eyes from the sunlight as she stepped out of the barracks. She looked upwards as a shadow enveloped her and then he was there, her bonded, her Reciproth. The large blue circled and flew over towards the starting point and waited for her to catch up. She didn't mind walking, she quite enjoyed it. Though, flying. Flying she loved more than anything. 'You have this my big blue wherry. Make us proud.' She said as she looked him over upon arriving. She checked his wings and once she was satisfied he was going to be just fine she allowed him his space to stretch on his own. Beating them a few times to stir up some whirlwinds. 'Show off.' She could hear a thrum of amusement come from him and his great head turned to look down upon his rider. 'Don't worry Mine, I know that I might have done poorly for you in the obstacle course, but I will make up for that with this.' She knew him well enough to know that he wouldn't let her down, or himself for that matter. She could feel his excitement mingled with her own and waited for him to begin. [WC: 282]

Area 1 : Precision Flying – the Dragon must fly between tall woven pillars that move with the wind, make the right-hand turn, and grab the Target Ball that's very low to the ground without knocking over anything. She went over to the board in which each of the events where tacked and looked at the parchment of what each area was to cover. She was almost tempted to rip it down so she could carry it with her, but she left it there. Hmm. Precision flying was the first event. She scoured through the rest of what was listed and nodded her head. He could do this, she knew he could. These were too easy for him. She stood back and watched as the first area began. He was built for this. He wasn’t the most agile since he was slightly larger than the average blue, but still. He knew how to work his length to his advantage at times. His legs shifted back and forth slightly as he extended his wings and then leaped into the air and flew towards the pillars. He watched as they swayed ever so slightly in the wind and beat his wings twice to pick up some momentum for what he was about to do. After some careful calculations on his part he turned so that he was at a sideways angle and smoothly glided between the object and did a barrel roll as he made a right turn. The beauty of this was that while he did the roll into the turn, he extended his talons and carefully plucked the ball from the ground and hugged it close to his large frame as he finished the move and ended right side up and flew back to the main platform. ’What do you think mine? Have we given them something to be amazed about yet?’ He jested. She clapped excitedly as she watched him perform the stunt! That was her dragon! That was her boy. She couldn’t help the grin that formed on her weathered features. She couldn’t help the laugh that escaped her lips a his words. ’Do you not hear that clapping? I think you have my dearest one. I think you have.’ She watched as one of the judges took the ball from Reciproth and returned it to its place so the next contestant could do their thing. Now for the next event. Target: 3 Reciproth: 4, 3, 4 Result: Pass, rolled a 3. Stunt: Yes [WC: 365]

Area 2 : Precision Betweening – the Dragon must Between exactly 1 Dragon Length above the ground and 1 Dragon Length away from a target pole, then exactly 2 dragon lengths away, and then 3 dragon lengths away. Precision betweening was the next event. She looked over towards Reciproth and watched as he was given the command to begin and then, he vanished. If there was one thing that he could do easily, as if it were breathing, it was betweening to a location. Nothing against his rider, and she knew this, but it was far easier for him to go where it was he needed without her telling him. He could see well enough what she wanted when they did this, but when it was just him, it just came naturally. At the signal of the command he blinked between and felt the coolness of the emptiness of space engulf him. He quickly emerged in the location that was asked of him and as soon as he knew a judge had taken notes he vanished again. If he would have had the facial features to smile, he probably would have. While between he flipped so that he was upside down and reappeared long enough for the judge to verify, but not too long that he fell against the ground. The second he felt gravity take hold he vanished again and reappeared third time in the location that was required and then between back to the starting point. The second stunt had been rather difficult to pull off and he wasn’t sure if he would have been able to do it. Especially without his weight plummeting him to the ground. But he had, and he was quite pleased. Naressa was very pleased and at the same time almost worried when he pulled off the stunt he had. What if he had fallen? He would have surely broken a wing. She was most certain of that. She felt Reciproths attention turn to her at her thoughts of fright and she felt his reassurance. ’Don’t worry mine. I would never do anything to jeopardize myself, or you.’ She sighed and smiled. ’I know. I can’t help but worry you know.’ She said as she watched him prep for the third area. Target: 7 Reciproth: 1, 3, 3 Result: Pass Total of 7 Stunt: Yes [WC: 341]

Area 3 : Speedway – the Dragon must make a dash for it from one designate point to another as fast as they can.
For the next event Reciproth was going to have to dash from one point to the other and she wondered how he was going to accomplish this. She knew he wasn't the fastest but she was still curious as to how he was going to pull it off. Especially without any form of a head start. Reciproth could sense his riders concern and he glanced over at her for a moment. 'Don't worry mine. I can be fast when I choose to be.' He then took off and proceeded to the starting point of the 3rd area. He hovered in place as he awaited for the signal to go and then took off. He beat his wings a couple of times and soared towards the ending point. As he neared the end he conducted a barrel roll and as he crossed the ending point leveled out and soared around the tops of the buildings back to the main starting point of the aerial displays. She was very pleased with how well he was doing so far and she was quite impressed with his performance, especially in this event. He always knew how to surprise her sometimes. Target: 1 Reciproth: 3, 3, 2 Result: Pass Using 1st +/- 1 "Trained for this" 2-1=1 [WC: 196]

Area 4 : Precision Control – a Dragon must add a large stone block to the top of a narrow pillar without knocking the pillar over or dropping the block. She recalled the list of functions he was going to have to perform and she knew that this next one was going to be relatively easy for him. What was it he had to do? Oh, yes, place a stone atop a pillar without knocking it over or dropping the stone block. She was confident he could do this. ’I told you mine, don’t worry. I have this. They will sing our names in songs to come. She chuckled at his exuberance. Claws encased the large stone and he lifted it into his care as he flew into the air towards the pillar. He examined it as he was flying closer towards it and then even more so when he arrived. Carefully he lowered himself and tried his best to keep his beats at a minimum so as to not knock it over with the wind from his wings. Slowly and surely he descended towards the top of the pillar and finally he widened his grip upon the stone block and carefully and delicately placed it where it belonged. On top. As soon as he was sure it wasn’t going to move he rocked skywards and flew back towards the starting position to admire his handy work. He gave a small nod of his head in approval of his work. No stunts or antics on this one, he was quite content on just getting the stone to its proper place. Naressa had been all nerves as she had watched him carefully place it on the pillar. There were a few moments that she thought perhaps it might fall but it never did and she stood proudly as she watched her dragon fly back to begin the last and final area. Target: 5 Rolled: 3, 1, 4 Result: Pass. 1+4=5 Stunt: No [WC: 290]

Area 5 : Free-style Stunts – the Dragon can demonstrate 2 stunts of their choosing.
Naressa was very pleased with how well her blue was doing. This final event was two freestyle stunts of his choosing. She wondered what he would do. She knew he wasn’t as agile as most blues, but still, he had his ways and she was curious to know what he might do. Reciproth waited patiently for the judges to give him the command of go and once they did he took off. He had to gain some momentum for the first stunt he wanted to do. He climbed skyward and once he was high enough to know he had enough time to perform his stunts he fell. His wings closed against his long, lithe frame and he did a spiraling loop that turned into a barrel roll and as he grew closer towards the tops of the buildings he threw open his wings and pulled himself out of his roll and shot forward over the rooftops. With this momentum he allowed himself to do a couple sets of upward spirals and finished in another barrel roll as he came to a gliding halt back at the starting point. He landed and looked over towards his bonded. See mine, I told you we had this.’ She felt her heart leap into her chest as he watched him perform his stunts like an overgrown firelizard. She was actually quite surprised he had been able to pull those moves off. However, with his use of his weight against gravity she had been able to see how it was possible. He had put a lot of thought into his moves. ’Yes my dear one. I see that we have. Come now, you must but hungry after all that flying. Let’s get you AND me some food.’ She said with a smile. They would soon after return to watch the other flyers perform. Target: 7 Reciproth: 4, 2, 2 Result: Pass. Using 2nd +/-1 4+2+2=8 - 1=7 Stunt: Yes [WC: 308]
