The trip to Oba hadn't been all that bad when Winta considered the last time she had been through Sauti. Of course going through Tale was a walk in the moonlight for her since it was her homeland. Oba on the other hand? New territory and Winta had to agree with Dexurn; it wasn't pretty. When they watched the traitors sail away she couldn't have been happier. It would have been nice to see them a little rough looking but you couldn't get everything you wished for. Winta was not a brute or really one who delighted in the suffering of others, however, she still wished someone would have punched them in the gut a few times. Then again, they were crazy and unless it was a hit to the head it wouldn't have helped them.
With a shrug of her shoulders and a soft sigh her attention was drawn to the boy standing nearby. "Well, we made it to Oba." She said, crinkling her nose. "You were right. It's not worth the visit." This time she smiled while adjusting her bag on her shoulder. "Are you still up for going to Matori? I don't know what supplies we should get though." Winta added as she rifled throug her bag. There was some medical items, a small bit of water--which would need to be filled--and a couple dried pieces of meat and plants. Probably a good idea to restock if there weren't any nearby towns.

While returning to Oba hadn't been at the top of his list of things to do, Dexurn knew that, for him, it was a better starting place than the battle field he'd gotten caught up in. It hadn't been for nothing though! He had a traveling companion. Whether or not she went all the way to Matori with him, he was more than grateful for the company.
Winta's voice drew Dex from his inner thoughts, and he gave her a small smile. "Matori will be better. I'm sure of it." He had absolute faith in his auntie's stories. Matori would be home!
The question of supplies brought a semi-confident nod. "Lots of water, food, and cloaks to cover from the sun. ..If you can afford it, the sand gets really hot, so you might want shoes. When I was traveling, I usually walked at night, so the sun wasn't too bad."
Eyes lowering, he dug a shallow rut into the sand. "Are.. you sure you want to come? ..You don't want to just go back to your own home?" While he was more than happy for the company, he still couldn't help wondering why she was willing to help him. Home was an important thing, after all.

Dexurn's confidence brought another smile to her face. It was kind of nice to see him so happy and excited. It was also contagious, too. When he brought up the supplies she nodded. "I've got us covered. Plus I've got some small weapons I can trade or sell if we need to." She gestured to her bag that was settled at her hip. "I've traveled a bit before so I know to never leave without a back up plan." Winta winked at him.
At his mention of traveling at night she contemplated the thought for a minute. "What would you say is the best way to travel, expert Dexurn? At night?" While Winta was along for the ride, this trip was important to Dexurn and she was going to let him make the decisions on how they should travel--unless he asked her.
Winta couldn't help but smile as he looked at the sand. Adorable. That was the word that fit him when he did that. She wondered what went on in his head. When he spoke she had a bit an answer to that question. "Dexurn." Winta said, tilting her head for a second before gently putting her hand on his shoulder. "Of course I want to come. Home. . . " She paused for a moment in an attempt to collect what she wanted to say. "I have a home, more or less, but not one that has tied me down to it yet. Sure, I'm getting more business with my weapons but I don't have a shop or anything so I don't have to stick around all the time. I love to travel and as I mentioned, I've done it quite a bit." Winta smiled. "Besides, I want to go to Matori with you. I want to see what your grandmother saw." She told him truthfully. When he described his homeland she couldn't help but feel a pang of desire to see it to. Whether it lived up to the words that had caused this trip or not wasn't a big deal to her either.
"Are you sure you want me to come along?" Winta asked, dropping her had to her side.

"Okay." Considering how many times he'd tried and failed to cross Oba, maybe it was time to give the reigns over to someone else. He was a better follower anyway!
Expert? The title made him smirk slightly. "Expert usually means you're good at something. Been trying for a while now, and still not there. ..But, yeah, night and early morning is best for me. Cooler."
As Winta confirmed her commitment, Dex was torn between watching her face and keeping his head down. She was intense and determined... Strange, but nice. No one had ever been this determined to help him with anything. And when the question was returned to him in such a way, his eyes did snap up, instantly feeling guilty. "N-no! That's not what I meant... I'm really happy you're coming." His eyes dropped back down. "Sorry."

Even with his eyes trained on the ground below him, Winta was still able to see the slight smirk that appeared at her words on him being an expert. "Well, did you get farther each time you went out? Learned something you didn't know before about the travel there?" She asked. Winta wanted to know a lot of things about Dexurn. Why did he look at the ground instead of her? Why wasn't he. . . confident in himself? Winta had so much of the latter she could spare some. "Do you like cooler weather?" Winta asked curiously.
His reaction caused Winta to laugh a little. "You're fine." She was still laughing a little. "Well at least you want me around. Otherwise I guess I would have just had to follow you from a few feet behind." Winta attempted to joke. "So. Lead the way to the supplies?" Winta asked as she pointed towards the center of town--or what she hoped was.

Pausing, Dexurn paused and cocked his head slightly in thought. Did he get farther each time? "I.. guess I did. I didn't really get where I wanted, but.. I was always somewhere." When asked about the cooler weather, he shrugged. "I've always been in Oba, but I do like Oba at night. I guess that's cooler?"
Brow rising, he half-smiled and adjusted his canteen idly. He looked where Winta was pointing, and gave an uncertain nod. Lead? "I.. don't know how to lead." he murmured, truly thrown off by the idea.

From what Dexurn said in response to her questions she was beginning to realize that he didn't see things the same way as she did. Which was oddly interesting to her because, while she wasn't always "positive" she seemed to have a more "positive" take on her failures. Most of the time. Dexurn wasn't exactly negative but he didn't exactly seem to see the value in what he had accomplished thus far. This of course made her wonder what she could do to help him with that. Nothing at the moment.
Winta couldn't help but smile at his mumbled words. She almost hadn't heard him at all. "Not everyone can, but have you ever tried?" She asked, curious to know the answer. "I'll help you. . . I'll be a supporting leader?" Winta tilted her head as she considered how that would work and then shook her head. Didn't matter how as long as he felt a little bit like he could lead afterwards. "How about this. . . What supplies should we get first? Then show me where that is." Winta winked, hoping this would help him a little.

Had he.. ever tried?! He couldn't help gawking slightly. No one had ever asked him to lead. Having her confirm that she was actually suggestion he lead them... was mind boggling.
A supporting leader? Well, if she was expecting him to lead, then it sure would be a good idea to have her supporting. Supplies. Yeah. He could figure that out. "I guess, first... if you're sure it's covered... cloaks, and shoes if you want..." He lowered his gaze again. "I don't know where to get them."

Winta couldn't help but laugh at his gawking at her. Was what she said really that odd to him? "I'm used to hot weather but maybe some shoes would be a good idea in case we have to walk on rocks." Winta despised rocks. Whenever she had to walk on a rocky terrain she wore shoes. In fact, it was the only time she did. The rest of the time she wore her bandage shoes which mostly kept her feet solid on uneven terrain.
"Neither do I!" Winta boasted proudly. "We'll find out together?" She asked, looking at him expectantly. "I wouldn't be upset if we had to walk for a few hours or something to get the supplies or find a place to buy supplies." Winta told him truthfully. Okay, she might mind a bit if they were walking for hours but Dexurn needed a confidence boost. Why did she have to have a soft heart?

Dex nodded slowly. "Shoes for rocks. Okay." His feet were calloused from being barefoot for most of his life. It wasn't so much rocks that concerned him as just anything sharp. The happy boast surprised him, but he found himself chuckling lightly. "Yeah. We can find it together, but I hope it won't take a few hours!" Looking around, he hesitantly pointed down the path. "Maybe.. we can start.. that direction? I think the.. market is that way."

"Do you need shoes?" Winta asked, noticing that he was even more barefoot than she was. Had she noticed that before? No. Well, at least they had a dislike for shoes in common. Maybe not a dislike but it was good enough. "Market? Okay, good idea." She agreed. Winta had no idea what she was doing so if that's the direction he believed the market was in than she was all for it. "Let's go!" She cheered, a fist raising in the air as she began walking with him in that direction.
Winta glanced over at Dexurn and then looked back in the direction they were walking. "Do you still have family in Matori?" She asked.

Dex looked down at his feet, pursing his lips slightly. "Just flat ones," he said, referring to sandals with simple ties on top. More material meant a higher cost! He smiled again as Winta started off so confidently toward where they hoped the market was. He wasn't used to someone acting so friendly around him. Master had been confident, sure, but not as kind as Winta.
Brow rising, he shook his head lightly. "I don't know. I was born here in Oba. I think my parents were born in Matori, but I don't remember them. Auntie said she had some family left there when she was taken, but she said that was a long time ago. She didn't know if any of them would still be around."

Flat shoes? Winta was completely anti-shoe but from what she discussed with other people it hurt to not have a certain kind of shoe. Of course she couldn’t help but wonder if he was truly comfortable with flat shoes in a rougher terrain. ”Are you sure those will work though?” She asked.
Winta frowned when Dexurn began to tell her about his families history—and being taken. Winta herself couldn’t imagine being owned by someone else, moving from her homeland forcefully, or never seeing it or her family again. ”How long ago was she taken? They didn’t take her other family members?” Winta asked, a confused look marring her features. ”What happened to your parents?” She finally asked.

After a hesitation, Dex shrugged. "It should be?" It was cheaper for the slaves to not have shoes, so the idea of anything more than simple sandals on his feet was odd to him.
The questions made him tip his head back slightly to look up at the sky in thought. "She never gave much detail about when she was taken. Told me more about before then, when she was with her family. Said she didn't remember it happening." His expression softened slightly with a look at Winta. "I kinda think she just didn't want to talk about it. I bet they were sad memories for her. She did say she was a lot younger though, and had no gray hairs."
The question of his parents brought on another shrug. "I was bought by master when I was really young, so I don't really remember them. I don't know what happened to them." He gave Winta a light smile. "It's okay though. I had master and Auntie." Though... both of them were gone now, too...
He turned to face forward quickly hoping the burning at his eyes would go away quickly with a change of subject. "What kind of shoes do you think we should get?"
