Firelizard Showing
The Fireliard Showing is the most visible competition for firelizard breeders and enthusiasts to show off their skill in training and raising firelizards as well as showcasing the various applications and personalities of the little flits.
The Firelizard Showing consists of a friendly competition judging three aspects of a Firelizard: intelligence, physique, and dexterity. Each trainer is expected to demonstrate a trick associated with each aspect of the judging and then provide one last finale-style exercise. This last trick is a free-style movement and can consist of a tandem dance, a demonstration of messenger skills, or other practical applications. Additionally, each contender can enter a maximum of 1 firelizard each Dragon Games so breeders frequently train their firelizards and pick only the best to compete.
Judging is broken in to categories: Category A (Green, Blue, Black), Category B (Brown, Crimson), and Category C (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
The Showing occurs in a round clearing off to the side of the main stage where weyrfolk and visitors alike can gather in the grasses to watch the competitors. Crowd favourites from previous years include Y'ko and Brown Blot, known for his accuracy and retention in message delivery, and young holder Camarin the daughter of a Breeder who takes great pride in the acrobatics of her three green flits.
The Tasks are as Follows:
1. Intelligence Test – There is a list of objects that a trainer must command their flit to fetch (A Quill, a Candle, Two chicken eggs, and muffin, and a purple flower). Each of these objects must be delivered to the appropriate judge (The quill and candle to the first judge, the eggs and muffin the second, and the purple flower to the third).
2. Physique Test – the physical condition of the firelizard is assessed by one of the three judges. Preparation and presentation goes a long way for this portion and many spend a great deal of time oiling up their flit prior to the show.
3. Dexterity Text – the acrobatic ability of the firelizard is put to the test. The firelizard is instructed to fly through various hoops, between bars, catch and hold onto various objects, etc in a demonstration of their aerial ability. Betweening for this portion, is of course, forbidden and is often where many firelizards stumble.
4. Free-style Showing – this is the last portion of the Showing where a trainer can show off something unique to their firelizard's personality and type.
To Compete in the Firelizard Showing:
1. Assign stats to your firelizard as per the following
Intelligence : 10
Physique : 10
Dexterity : 10
=> Each colour gains additional points, to be spread across the stats however the trainer wishes. Green: 7, Blue: 9, Brown: 13, Bronze: 18, Gold: 21, Black: 7, Crimson: 13, Silver: 18.
=> Example Green – Int: 13, Physique: 11, Dex: 13 (This flit would be smart and acrobatic but not very pretty)
2. Attempt a test. There are 3 levels of difficulty for tests, Simple, Moderate, and Difficult. Generally Category A competitors do best with simple, Category B with moderate and Category C with difficult. The maximum value of a test cannot be less than the stat against which it is being compared.
Simple: roll 1d12
Moderate: roll 1d20
Difficult: roll 3d10
After you roll the appropriate dice for the stat, compare the result. If your stat is higher then the dice result, you've completed the test. If the dice equals your stat, you did a decent job. The higher your stat is compared to the roll, the better you did.
In the case of physique tests, the result is how well you prepared/how well that preparation stuck.
3. Attempt a free style showing. To attempt a free-style showing, you must roll a test for the highest stat of your flit. If your test is good, it will be added to your scoring, if it was done poorly, it will not be added.
4. Scoring is done as follows: The difference between the rolled and the stat for each test will be summed up. The largest total had the best showing and so on through the third place.
