Bonded Obstacle Course The Blind Obstacle Course is a challenge of the bond between Dragon and Rider or Handler and Wher. The non-human partner guides its blind-folded partner through a series of seven tasks and obstacles rannging from jumping across platforms to navigating a maze. Pairs are judged based on their accuracy and the time taken. Anyone bonded to a Dragon or Wher is welcome to participate. The Dragons and Whers are situated away from the obstacle course enough that they can only see the course and cannot interact with it. Observers are welcome to sit in benches ranged alongside the course. The tasks are as follows:1. Navigate a set and winding narrow pathway. Scored based on accuracy of path. 2. Navigate through an obstacle field of things such as hay bales, wooden posts, and fences. 3. Cross a 'moat' by navigating across platforms. The moat is as deep as an adult's waist and filled with water. 4. Colour a picture with chalks on a large chalk board. 5. Spin 10 times then pin the tail on the dragon. 6. Throw a ball at a target 7. Finally, navigate a hay bale maze. The maze is winding and geometric in patterning and is approximately 6 feet tall. To make attempts at the obstacle course:1. Dragon rolls 1d8 in one post, directing the rider. 2. Rider rolls 2d4 in answer. 3. If the Rider matches the dragon, the obstacle is navigated perfectly. -> if +/- 4 then it is a stumbled effort but a fail -> if +/- 3 then it was complete, but poorly so -> if +/- 2 it was a medium success, nothing flashy -> if +/- 1 then it was an excellent attempt and a pass 4. There are up to 3 tries/obstacle. If it is failed 3 times, the human partner must move on. (Dragons roll 1/obstacle and humans get up to 3 attempts per obstacle) 5. The winner of the Obstacle Course is determined by the fewest attempts and the closest match. Prizes!Every event has prizes associated with it and as this year is sponsored by the Tannercraft, the prizes consist of custom-made leather clothing appropriate to the profession! 1. First Place: Full Dress Leathers (Pants, jacket, cap, boots, gloves) set for either a Wherhandler or Rider, custom coloured and fitted. Worth 300 Marks. 2. Second Place: Custom crafted Leather jacket 3. Third Place: Custom crafted Leather boots.

[1. Navigate a set and winding narrow pathway. Score based on accuracy of path.]
C’rrys and Leszyth made their way down to the obstacle course, they had days to burn before their leg of the Wing Relay and the excitement of the Dragon Games was positively contagious! When they heard the obstacle course was returning with the Games, the pair began practicing in their Weyr - C’rrys stumbling about with a scarf tied around his head as Leszyth grew accustomed to directing his. The pair had risen before even Rukbat this morning, eating a hearty breakfast in the dining halls before setting out- they wanted to be the first to try out this years course! C’rrys looked about at the small gathering of folks who were equally excited, arriving early to reserve prime seats in the bleachers surrounding the course. C’rrys walked up to the entry tent as Leszyth flew to a perch suitably distant from the course, practically bouncing with enthusiasm and elated to see that they indeed were the first bonded pair to show up. Within the tent several tables were arranged to accept entrants, although at this early hour only one was currently being staffed by a pair of weyrfolk, a young man and woman, and by the looks of it two aged-out candidates. C’rrys approached them jovially, “ Good morning! I’m excited to start off the obstacle course, how do Leszyth and I enter?” The young man stifled a yawn and motioned at a paper on the table in front of him, “You are unwholesomely perky for this hour. Just write the bonded pair’s names here on this form, seeing as you’re the first to arrive there’s no wait-time. Once you’ve written down your names go ahead and meet the course attendant at the first obstacle’s entrance, it’s marked with a big ol’ 1 at the front.” C’rrys nodded at the man’s instructions and penned their names on that first pristine line, departing with a grin and a wave, “ Thank you for your time, hope you don’t fall back to sleep before more contestants arrive!” Leszyth: 7 C’rrys: 7 Result: Perfect WC: 342

Rolling for C'rrys following Leszyth's directions
The master of ceremonies looked to the meager audience at the benches and started bringing them to life, recounting tales from last turn’s Games and introducing this turn’s first participants with a flourish, “... and now we have our first pair that dare test their bond against the obstacles set forth! Ladies and gentlemen, raise your voices and applause as C’rrys and blue Leszyth attempt to navigate our first obstacle!” Leszyth let out a proud bugle as the crowd applauded the start of today’s events, C’rrys looked about at a smattering of familiar faces and waved to the audience prior to meeting with the attendant. He was blindfolded before being lead to the start of the pathway and receiving a mental image from Leszyth of wooden beams that were arranged on the ground to form a narrow path from entrance to exit, hardly wide enough to keep both feet side by side. He felt Leszyth’s comforting presence in his mind and squelched the knot in the pit of his stomach, Are you ready mine? Always.
Leszyth sat perched above the narrow path and sent C’rrys mental images along with commands, “Quarter turn to your right now...3 paces forward...slide one hip length to your left...” It was as if rider and dragon were one, navigating the pathway effortlessly so much so that the audience was silently taken aback in disbelief before roaring in thunderous approval as C’rrys made it to the exit, bowing with a flourish with a smile that stretched from ear to ear. I knew we could do this! We could not have performed better mine!

[2. Navigate through an obstacle field of things such as hay bales, wooden posts, and fences.] The hollering of the folks gathered was attracting attention and more of the benches began to fill as passersby were drawn in with curiosity. The master of ceremonies nodded sagely at the pair’s performance, addressing the crowd with arms raised, “Oh aye; a grand start for the day, but can they keep it up as they enter .... the OBSTACLE COURSE?” The growing crowd cheered and C’rrys turned to the entrance of the second challenge, his heart beating a mile-a-minute. Leszyth surveyed the field of obstacles before his and filled C’rrys with reassurance, Do not be nervous mine, I’m sure we will succeed at this as well, it looks no more challenging than the last task. C’rrys grinned- he may be blind, but he was not without sight thanks to his bonded-, Oh Leszy, I’m not nervous - I’m excited! I have no doubt that we’ll succeed, I trust you completely. Leszyth: 4 C’rrys: 4 Result: Perfect WC: 167

1. Navigate a set and winding narrow pathway. Reciproth had been awake well before his rider and he greeted her with a low thrum in his chest as she approached him. He had already gone and fed while she had been getting ready and she scratched the scales atop his eyeridges lovingly. 'You needn't be nervous mine. I'll be watching over your every move.' He said, amusement in his voice. 'That's what I'm afraid of. By the shards of the first egg you better.' She said, giving him a pat on the neck. 'Let us be off you overgrown wherry.' He snorted and the two made their way to the obstacle course. She walked over towards the sign-in table and jotted down their information and snatched up a blind fold and headed over towards the starting position. It seemed to be another rider and their dragon was already doing the course and she decided it would just be best to block it all out. She just wanted it to be her and her dragon. 'You worry too much. You need to have a little fun Naressamine.' She didn't like the sound of that. She took in a deep breath and tightened the blindfold over her eyes. One of the judges walked over and checked it to make sure she couldn't see and with that, it was time to start the first course. Reciproth:1 [WC: 224]

[2. Navigate through an obstacle field of things such as hay bales, wooden posts, and fences.] Good, now walk forward 6 paces, then turn sharply to your left … good, now continue walking forward, you’ll need to turn right in three more paces ... C’rrys carried out his bonded’s commands confidently, working at a brisk pace and growing more confident by the second. It was amusing to the pair how the crowd broke out in applause with each dodged obstacle and as C’rrys made it to the entrance of the third challenge he was rewarded once again with a roaring reception from the audience. Turning in the direction of the audience he let out a whoop and punched the air with one fist, Hear that Leszy- they love us! Keep up the good work mine. Leszyth: 4 C’rrys: 4 Result: Perfect WC: 118

1. Navigate a set and winding narrow pathway
Naressa took her first step forward and his mind was ever present as she moved forward. 'Very good mine. 4 more strides forward then face towards your left and move forward three strides before turning halfway to the right and moving forward for 1 stride.' She could feel her heart pounding in her chest and hear it in her ears. At least Reciproth had her mind occupied. She did as was told and moved herself foward, left, forward and a quarter right? She swallowed nervously as she completed the last portion and then she realized that it was done. Or was it? 'What now?' She was almost nervous to ask. 'It's simple Mine. Just turn and face behind you and walk 3 strides, then face left and walk two strides and you're done!' She could hear the amusement in his voice. She shook her head and turned herself around the best she could without losing track of anything and slowly but surely completed as was told. Thank goodness that was over. Reciproth: 1 Naressa:3 Difference:+2 Result: Completion: Medium Success, nothing flashy [WC: 171]

2. Navigate through an obstacle field of things such as hay bales, wooden posts, and fences. 'See mine. I told you to trust me.' His pleased voice filled her mind and she was almost certain she could hear him thrumming with pleasure. She gave a small smirk and let out a light laugh. 'We still have a few more obstacles.' She was already at the start of the next obstacle. It definitely made Reciproths job a bit easier since he wouldn't have to tell her where to walk to find it. She hoped he would get her though these next events, mostly unembarrassed. Reciproth: 5 [WC: 87]

[2. Navigate through an obstacle field of things such as hay bales, wooden posts, and fences.] She had no idea what lay before her, but he did and he knew that if he banged her up too bad then it would probably be a bad day for him as well. 'Are you prepared for this next one Mine?' He was toying with her now. She growled lightly in her throat, all in good fun mind you, and then shook her head and smiled. She was as ready as she could be. 'Give me all you got you overgrown firelizard.' Silence seemed to occupy her mind for a little longer than she wanted and then his voice was there, guiding her. '4 Strides forward, then shift a quarter of a turn right and move 2 strides, then turn a full left and move 5 strides.' Each command she followed, quickly and efficiently this time. She figured she could trust him well enough since he got her through the first one unscathed. 'Partial left turn, 5 strides a right turn, 2 strides, a half of a stride to your left and then you're done.' She swallowed and executed the commands and sure enough she allowed herself to relax and as if on que she heard the sounds of applause. She allowed herself this small smile, though it was nothing on her part. It was all her dragon. However, there were still more tasks to complete. Reciproth: 5 Naressa: 4 Difference: -1 Result: Completion, an excellent attempt. [WC: 227]

3. Cross a 'moat' by navigating across platforms. The moat is as deep as an adult's waist and filled with water. This attempt was going to be a little more interesting and Naressa could feel that he had something up his wing. If one could see her eyes, you'd be able to tell her eyebrows were furled in a, what are we about to have me do, kind of expression but since you couldn't, you'd think she was just standing there. Waiting. 'Oh, you're going to like this one mine.' She could hear the amusement in his voice and she tapped her foot slightly. She wasn't so sure. Reciproth: 1 [WC: 87]

3. Cross a 'moat' by navigating across platforms. The moat is as deep as an adult's waist and filled with water.
As she stood there, waiting for his command she heard mild creaking and... was that water!! 'I told you mine. Just be calm. You are in good claws.' She really didn't like the sounds of that. He was jesting with her and she knew it. 'Let us get on with it.' She had a notion of how this was going to end already. 'You're going to have to balance yourself on these platforms mine. Take a small step to your left. Then walk forward 3 strides.' She took in a breath and then let it out and did as he commanded and she stepped upon the platform and could feel the water shifting underneath it. 'All you have to do is turn slightly left and walk forward 8 strides and you're done.' He made it sound so easy. 'How about we switch places and I'll tell you where to go.' She jested and she went to turn and her foot must have caught on some damp wood because with a quick splash and an intake of air from her, into the water she went. Reciproth instinctively wanted to fly down there and insure she was alright but he could sense she was okay. She pulled herself out of the water and replaced herself back on the platform. 'I'm fine... The water is actually quite nice.' The blindfold had come off so she jumped back into the water and waded back to the start and pulled herself out and wrung out most of the water. After successfully doing that she replaced the blindfold, had it checked and prepared herself for go two. Reciproth: 1 Naressa: 5 Difference: +4 Result: Stumbled effort, but a fail [WC:271]

3. Cross a 'moat' by navigating across platforms. The moat is as deep as an adult's waist and filled with water. Reciproth stretched his great wings and then folded them against his frame as he watched his rider below and once she was ready he settled himself back into a comfortable position. 'Okay mine, same instructions as last time. Just done fall in.' She could hear the throaty chuckle he gave and she smiled and recalled the instructions from before. She shifted and stumbled a couple of times but sure enough, she made it to the end without falling into the water this time. 'That wasn't so bad that time.' She said to him hoping the next task didn't involve anymore water. Reciproth: 1 Naressa: 4 Difference: +3 Result: Completion, but poorly so [WC: 101]

4. Colour a picture with chalks on a large chalk board. She hoped that this event wasn't anything to excitingly in another time and sure enough it wasn't. Reciproth had told her to extend her hand outwards and pick up the dusty piece of chalk she now held. What was she going to do with chalk? 'We are going to draw Mine.' Draw? She had heard him correctly, right? She could only imagine how the finished image would work, probably some combination of lines and scribbles and no purpose. She shook her head then, no. They had this, they could do it. Besides, how hard could it be? Reciproth: 3 [WC: 97]

4. Colour a picture with chalks on a large chalk board. Reciproth looked at the image for a moment and then began to describe to Naressa what it was, he was looking at. She extended her arm and felt the tip hit against the blackboard and she followed his commands, her arm swinging in a wide arch, followed by little hash marks and some various scribbling. 'I question your methods sometimes.' She said wondering what on earth she could be drawing. 'Well my methods just got us a perfect pass.' She nodded her head with a small wave of satisfaction. 'I will give you that then. You're not a horrid teacher.' She could feel how smug he was just then. 'Come now mine. The next task awaits! Turn to the left and walk 6 strides. You'll be ready then.' She did as was commanded by her dragon and moved to the starting position. Reciproth: 3 Naressa: 3 Difference: 0 Result: Completion, Perfect [WC: 142]

5. Spin 10 times then pin the tail on the dragon. She could hear the thrum of a chuckle in his throat and she wished she could see! 'What is so amusing my love?' She was beyond curious to know what was in store for them in this task. 'You have to pin a tail on a dragon.' She had to what? 'It is a leather imitation of one. Just reach out your hand and feel. You will feel the piece in which you will put towards the rather amusing image I am seeing.' She wished at this moment, she could see what was going on. Though, once she was finished she would be able to come back and watch others go through the course! She extended her hand and the tips of her fingers touched the leather hide of the piece of leather she was going to be tacking to an image in an unknown location. 'Ready.'Reciproth: 7 [WC: 147]
