George swam along the edge where the shallows became what he thought of as the "deep end" - close enough to shore to be shallow, but not quite close enough to accommodate a full-sized soquili's long legs: they'd have to swim, were they to come out here. At this depth, he could still see if anyone entered the water, and this was a fairly populated area. Maybe he would get lucky today. He found himself getting lucky most days, whether by chance of someone losing something in the water for long enough for him to "innocently" pick it up, or by simply stealing it off them so they thought they had lost it in the water.
Today would, hopefully, be no different. His hoard was increasing in size and variation every day, and it was almost an addiction to watch it grow and play with his new baubles. Trading was fun, too, but it didn't give him quite the satisfaction that stealing from the living did.
As he watched, two pairs of hooves sank into the sand before him, followed by a kelpi tail and a flowing mane. Had he had hands, he would have rubbed them together excitedly. Time to study, he told himself, and set about figuring out what they were up to, drawing closer with every moment. If they were relaxing, they would be easy targets. If they began to play, on the other hand, it would be more likely that he would get trampled, and he had had more than his share of bruises from unfortunate incidents. He'd rather avoid that this time.

"Dad says we must be home before dark," Ikuara Raukura rolled her eyes. "Like he thinks that's actually going to happen." She flipped water on to her back and leaned back to turn her face up to the sun a moment.
"I don't understand how you think this is going to work Kisu. Funa and Yakinori is not going to be stupid enough to reach into anything we give them. They'll know that there's something in there. And jellyfish are so obvious. Unless you have some better idea," Ikura sighed dramatically splashing around violently in the shallows. She tossed her fair white hair about her shaking the wet drops at her sister menacingly. "Tell me O wise one, what scheme do you have? I see it glinting in your eye."

Kisu Taonga giggled as she splashed water at her. "Well, obviously I'm not that stupid. We're not going to give it to them. They're going to either be given it by someone else like Kurage, he's totally reliable, or they'll steal it from us thinking what fun they'll have tormenting us with it. Either way, they'll think they won when they reach their hand in the bag and ZAP!"
"But father can't be cross with us, I mean it's not like we gave it to them. They'll have stole it. So I think that's the best course of action, it'll sting and they'll get in trouble for snatching our things." She tilted her red head at her sister. "What do you think? Any better ideas?" She scuffed her feet in the water and stood a few feet from her sister.

Groaning as the feet moved erratically, George waited for them to stop - to take a break and a still pose, if just for a moment. In the meantime, he studied what he could of the pair: one had legs of two different colors, the forelegs different with their sky blue socks; the other had dark blue legs the color of the sea, adorned with flowers. Those flowers were the only things within reach - and mighty pretty, though surely they would never last underwater. It would be a fleeting looting, then, unless they bore something above the water that he couldn't see now.
Moments passed, and then George saw it - his opportunity. The two soquili stood still next to each other. Carefully and slowly, he approached from the side, so that hopefully neither would see him. Before either could move, he wrapped his teeth around the center of a flower, and, with the next wave, pulled back, so that the motion of the water would disguise his movement. Then he was off, curling away back to the deep parts of the water and praying he'd gotten away with his little heist. Kelpi were not particularly fun to run from.

Kisu used to dealing with a horde of meddlesome brothers felt the tiniest of tugs at her ankle. "What the hell?" She lifted her foot out of the water looking at it as though something disgusting had touched it. That was when she noticed the flower missing on the adornment she wore around her ankle. Her eyes searched the waters close by. The shimmer of something almost scale-like in color caught her eye, then the curl of a tail. A seathi! A blasted seathi!
She didn't even think about it but took off running and spashing after it. "Give that back you filcher! You stupid turd hand it over or I'll make you rue the day!" She slipped for a moment, then took off again after the darting little annoying creature. "Ikura!"

Ikura was int he process of answering her sister when Kisu lifted up her foot. She had this disgusted look, then she was off like a banshee. "What are you doing Kisu? You look like a lunatic!" She giggled at her sister as she took off splashing.
Then her words reached her and a steely glint came into Ikura's eye. Someone had stolen something of her sister's. How dare the little snail think that he or she could do that and get away with it. When Kisu called her name shrilly, she darted forward after the little creature slashing her tail back and forth like a battering ram. If she got lucky, she'd land him like a fish. If not, she'd be superior in an ocean chase.
"GIve it up fish fry!"
