The park had become a bit of a go to for Briar on the days when he sneaked out to do superhero stuff as Oort and this evening had been no different.

It was early enough in the evening for it still to be relatively light, but late enough for it not to be quite so hot.

It was still pretty warm though.

Oort had wandered the park for a bit, but there hadn’t really been anything weird - at least not so far there hadn’t - and so he had decided to take a break.

A break that had equated to lazing up in the lower branches of a nearby tree.

He wasn’t planning to break for long - just a little bit - after all there was still superhero stuff to be getting back to.

Hope this works as a second start Beej - let me know if anything needs changing. Also couldn’t remember if this was supposed to have a youma encounter or not so have left it as [?] for now

Pavo was still in the process of adapting to the life of someone with powers and a responsibility to use them. Her introduction into the White Moon had been a rather unceremonious one. She'd been attacked by one of the shadow doppelgängers, and managed to save herself with the help of a talking cat. It had been a crash course in being a senshi, and Pavo had left not long after to continue her education overseas.

Home again, she was trying to go out once again, behave as she was told to behave. Find her place in this world and in this war. Settle into some sort of a routine, if only to find others like her.

The park was more or less empty. There were a few bodies lingering as darkness began to set in, but the belonged to teenaged, the homeless, or the occasional drug exchange.

Pavo ignored them all--dim stars in the night sky--until she felt something s little more substantial. Order align, but the actual flavor, she could have said. Curious, she headed towards it, bangles and bells chiming softly with each step of slipper covered feet.

There had been a talking cat involved in Oort’s introduction to the White Moon as well, although his introduction had been rather more quiet.

There had been no doppleganger. No danger.

Just a bakery, a salmon bagel and a talking cat called Horatio.

She had called him a winner and given him a magical pen thing and she had shown him magic in trade for a salmon bagel.

However whilst she’d mentioned some stuff, about the only thing that he’d really gotten out of it was that being a ‘winner’ meant that he was some sort of a superhero.

Not that it mattered because Oort, well okay Briar, knew all about superheroes - after all The Incredibles were superheroes and so were the Turtles.

He hadn’t seen Horatio again since that day though, which was a shame because she had been cool - really, really cool… And her laser thing had been awesome.

Oort rather wished he had a laser.

He wasn’t sure how long he had been lazing up in the tree, but eventually he became aware of a jingle-jangle intermixed with some sort of chime sound.

It wasn’t the loudest sound, which was probably why he didn’t notice it straight away, but there was a regularness to it that was kind of out of place and once he became aware of it he couldn’t un-notice it - particularly when it seemed to be kind of coming his way.

There was nothing for it but for him to peer out and down from his branch.

It didn’t take long for him to catch sight of the source, his reddish eyes widening as he caught sight of the lady with all the jewellery and bells on one wrist.

The jingle-jangle and chiming sounds coming from each footstep because even her shoes had jingle-stuff.

There was only one word to sum her up and Oort spoke it, not making any attempt to modulate his voice “Wow!”

Stealth would never be something Pavo would exel at, not powered up. She simply had too many acceossries that seemed in direct conflect to the possibility. Bells, bangles, bits and pieces of glittering gold from head to toe. Attention grabbing, to say the least.

She paused as she heard the young voice, suddenly on high alert, least til her eyes fell on the face staring back at her from the branches of a nearby tree. There was a moment of shocked silence, then a soft smile touched dark lips as she moved a little closer so she was standing nearly beneath him. "Hello up there." That was where the other aura was coming from, the young man perched in the tree.

"Are you a senshi as well?" It seemed so, though her voice still held a note of skepticism. He was a boy, no older than 12(younger probably, Pavo had never been good at gauging age). Surely their silver queen wasn't in the habit of recruiting children into a dangerous conflict like the one created by this war. It just seemed so very unlikely.

"I'm Sailor Pavo," she called up to him, head tilting gently to one side. "I won't hurt you."

The lady was kinda starey, Oort decided as she stared up at him for a few long moments but she didn’t make him feel the creepy niggling feel the way that Scary Lady did and she didn’t seem to have any creepy holes and he’d peered extra hard just to make sure.

She had sooo much jingle-jangle stuff though - so so very much of it - definitely more than he’d seen in one place.

She also had a a kind of surprised look on her face to the point where Oort found himself wondering if she’d ever seen a superhero before.

Her question both confirmed it for him and puzzled him - after all she had called herself a senshi too and senshi were supposed to be superheroes.

“Hi” he said at last and whilst he didn’t smile, he did jump down from his branch with the ease of someone who had done it on more than one occasion, the keys at his waist sent jangling with the movement.

He waited until his feet were on the ground before he nodded “Yes I’m a superhero” after all senshi equalled superhero and superhero sounded so much better “I’m Oort.”

The soft smile she wore grew as the young man climbed down from her perch. He was a cute thing, large eyes and bright hair. Keys rested at brow and hip, and there, smaller, on his sandals. If she had to guest, she'd place his sphere in the realm of keys or locks, but then she preferred not to speculate much about their kind, or the other powered figures that moved within the game board that was their fair city.

"Superhero?" It brought a gentle tip to her head, amusement lighting in dark eyes before took a step towards him and offered her hand. "Oort, it is nice to meet you." She didn't often meet other players in the war, though she had spent very little time actively involved in it.

"Have you been a superhero long?" It baffled her, that the white moon would think to recruit children. "How old are you?" It was perhaps a little tactless to be so direct, but then Pavo had never been especially prone to tact.

It was perhaps as well that Pavo didn't voice her thoughts on how cute Oort looked given that he liked being called 'cute' about as much as his civilian counterpart did - which is to say that he hated it.

Although it was hardly surprising given that he and Briar were one and the same.

Her guess about his sphere was also spot on given that he was the Senshi of keys - or as Horatio had put it - the Chibi Senshi of Keys. He preferred Superhero or 'Incredible Oort the Key Hero'.

Sadly if Oort been asked to counter-guess Pavo's sphere, then his guess would not be quite so spot on given that he would have offered up either jewellery or jangles - with a strong preference towards jangles based on all the chiming and jingle-jangles.

Although first he would have had to ask why a ball was so important... Because unfortunately his 'education' about senshidom was sadly lacking to the point that he hadn't even had the aura sensing 101 lesson - just Horatio's vague mentionings about how some people felt friendly.

"I'm 12" he said when asked about his age, reaching up to shake her offered hand. "Least for now I am" because he was turning 13 really, really soon. Well okay he was turning 13 in October - but it wasn't as if anyone was counting.

"And I've been a superhero since..." his voice trailed off for a moment as he thought on it, "For 'bout a year and a half" a note of enthusiasm slipped into his voice and then deepened as he continued "I met a talking cat called Horatio and she gave me this pen thing and I used my cookie money to get her a salmon bagel but it was worth it because I got to see her laser thingie and it was awesome!"

He looked up at her, his reddish eyes curious "How about you, have you been a superhero long?"

Oort was assuming 'no' given how confused Pavo had looked earlier at the mention of superhero.

Beejoux
btw did you want me to come up with a youma for them to end up fighting?
PostPosted: Tue Aug 18, 2015 5:36 pm

I'm 12, and I'd been a superhero for about a year and a half.

Pavo blinked down at the young man, clearly taken aback bu that information. That meant he had been awoken into this powered life at the age of eleven...ten? The idea of someone so young being expected to face the dangers she herself had faced did not sit well.

"A while," she admitted, voice thoughtful. "Over a year." Had it really been so long? It didn't feel like it. Perhaps because Pavo had only patrolled briefly before leaving to study abroad.

She gave him a very small frown. "Have you run into anything dangerous?"

litian
Oh yes that would be wonderful!

As it happened Oort had been just over a month past his eleventh birthday on the December afternoon when he had met Horatio for the first and last time and found out talking cats were a thing.

And a month past his eleventh birthday when he had found out that he was a superhero.

He tilted his head up at Pavo's admission that she'd been a superhero for over a year "That means that you've been a superhero for about as long as I have" which made her look of earlier puzzlement even more confusing as a year was pretty long - ages and ages long in fact.

He shook his head at her question about running into anything dangerous "No there hasn't been anything here - well apart from you that is - but I was thinking of looking for a stick or something because this park has monsters sometimes."

Well correction there had been a monster - a single monster and once - but Oort wasn't going to make distinctions.

Although if the pair had but known, the relative quiet was not going to last, because something was in the process of heading their way, drawn to the pair by their auras.

Oort tilted his head up again, reddish eyes curious as he continued "So what does your magic do?"

Beejoux
sorry for the delay - I'll have the youma make an actual appearance in my next post

She smiled down at him, hands clasping in front of her skirts. "I suppose it does." Though superhero was not the word she would have used. "I was out of the country for quite a while as well, so I spent a good amount of time not powered up."

There was a slight breeze moving through the trees around them and the branches over head. The rustling drew Pavo's attention upward, a hand lifting to brush a stray strand of colored hair back behind the curve of an ear before she was looking down again.

"My magic makes false copies of myself." Something she was not entirely convinced was helpful. "What does your's do?"

For the moment, the approaching monster went unnoticed.

"That sounds pretty neat" Oort said as Pavo explained what her magic did. "Not as neat as a laser" because lasers were so much more cool "But still pretty neat."

Because magical copies was a lot better than the key thing that his magic produced.

"My magic makes a key thing" he admitted with a sigh when she asked him about his own magic. "I used it on Horatio and it made her a little stronger, but..."

His voice tailed off at the sound of a crashing noise, one that seemed to be heading in their direction, reddish eyes glancing around "I think something's coming."

If Oort had known more about auras he would have known that the 'something' was a youma and that it had been heading their direction for a bit.

He didn't - Horatio had never really given him the sensing auras 101 lesson and it was something that had never come in on his few occasions of meeting people.

Not that it mattered as it didn't take long for the source of the noise to reveal itself - the something turning out to be a thing that resembled a sickly-green coloured bear - a bear that was the size of a large dog, but with spines running down it's back and narrowed black eyes.

Hope this works for a youma. Youma is in part inspired by this

Pavo was not at all sure how to respond to his comment on lasers, so she simply thanked him for his opinion on her own magic as she stood up straight again. "I'm not sure how helpful it is, but I suppose it's better than nothing."

His magic, on the other hand, sounded pretty helpful in a tight spot Something that could make another person stronger? Certainly more useful than false clones of seemingly injured senshi. At least Pavo thought so. Not that she would have all that much time to consider it. There was a crash off in the distance, then another, closer. Pavo turned head tilting softly to one side as looked through the trees, trying to find the source.

"I think you're right." She was equally as clueless over what she was feeling, but it would become clear soon enough.

It was a bear, of sorts. Sickly grean and grotesque. Pavo cringed when she saw it, taking a reflexive step back before remember that it was her duty to eliminate things like this, least they go after innocent humans.

She really didn't want to touch it, though...

"Oort, are you ready for a fight?"

The noise turned out to be another monster, but unlike the one that had been in the sandpit this one was a bear - well a kind of bear and a creepy one at that - a really, really creepy one.

But no superhero worth their salt would turn away from something like this and Horatio had told him he was a superhero and so he stayed where he was as the sickly green thing opened its mouth and roared at them before starting to lumber in their direction.

"I'm ready" he said. "Although I wish that I had a stick" because sticks were useful against monsters. "But p'raps you should try your copy thing."

Because then maybe the copies might confuse it or something.

It would have been better, she thought, to send Oort away. He was a child, after all, and the thing that faced them was a monster that could potentially be quite dangerous. Pavo did not think he would listen though. He had an air about him, something that spoke of young stubbornness. If she had tried, she did not think he would have listened.

The best she could do was try to protect him, try to take the youma's attention away from him. His suggestion held a lot of merit.

"Bitter hope." The words were spoken calmly. Pavo's magic was a subtle one, effecting her opponent's sight as well as their feelings. To the bear (and perhaps to Oort as well) the girl appeared injured, lame and helpless. It was a mind trick, something to lead a target into a false sense of security, and it certianly got the bear youma's attention. She watched it turn it's head to focus on her, claws flexing as it began it's charge.

Whoops, I'm dumb. Her basic is just an illusion to make her lok hurt, not the clones yet. >.>

Oort had been expecting magical copies to pretty much suddenly appear out of nowhere, but nothing had happened and the bear-thing was still lumbering in their direction and he was really, really wishing that he had a stick.

He waited for a moment, then two before turning to Pavo to ask her if she knew how long it was going to take for the copies to appear.

Except when he turned to look at her, she looked kind of sick - well actually make that really, really sick which was kind of weird as she'd been looking okay before.

He didn't like how sick she looked especially as the bear monster was getting kind of close and so Oort called on his own magic as he called out "Key up!"

He moved so as to be standing in front of Pavo, holding the small ornate key formed by his magic in his hand as he said "I hope this makes you feel better" and then holding the key up he turned it as in an invisible lock hoping that his magic would be able to help her as it had once helped Horatio.

Then he turned to face the monster as he scooped up some soil and dirt from the ground, packing it into a ball of sorts before trying to throw the ball at the monster bear.

Beejoux
I hope this tag is okay - I thought it would be amusing to have Oort see the effects of Pavo's attack and misunderstand/ assume that she suddenly got sick, but I can always edit if needs be.

I also tend to let the recipient of Oort's 'attack' choose which boost (speed or strength) they get. Below are the attack deets for ref:

Quote:
Key Up!
Oort calls on his magic while chanting the name of this attack and the magic forms into a small ethereal-looking ornate key.
By standing in front of an ally and turning the key as if in an invisible lock Oort can use this this to give an ally either a strength boost or a speed boost (one or the other and he doesn't get to choose which) of about 15%. Alternatively Oort can use it on himself, but he will only get the speed boost.
Duration: Oort has 15 seconds to use the 'key' otherwise the key will disappear. The boost will last for 10 seconds once Oort has used the 'key'
