It was another night full of opportunities in New Hemisect City, and Etsali had a feeling she'd found herself a big one this time. Though she did a lot more time traveling now than she had when she was a child, her nightly patrols around her home city had never fallen out of habit. The only difference now was that she did a little less searching through trash and a lot more scoping out hives. A lot of those hives hadn't paid off yet, but she kept an eye on them, knowing eventually there'd be a right time to hit them.
The one she was watching now was one that had been on her radar for some time, a fairly standard hive except for what seemed to be a large bird perch on the second story. It had been empty more often than not in all that time, or at least hadn't shown any signs of activity, and she'd finally pegged it down as a pattern she could make use of. If, in another few moments, no lights came on or movement caught her eye, she was going in.
The thief counted off those minutes by tapping a finger idly against her leg, and then crossed the street to the hive's front door. A fist lifted to knock exactly three times and then, when no answer came, she nodded and glanced over her shoulder. "See, what did I tell you? Empty as can be." Keeper huffed, unimpressed with a sentiment she'd heard entirely too many times when her charge had been younger, and Etsali laughed. She didn't need to be protected anymore, but it was still so good to see her lusus in top form again.
"Well, since you're here for now, want to give me a boost like old times?" The raccoon dragon moved in closer and Etsali stepped down into her clawed hands, grinning as she lifted higher. Keeper shoved her up as far as she could, and soon enough Etsali was pulling herself over the ledge of the balcony. She poked her back over the side to wave down. "I'm good from here! See you before morning."
Keeper disappeared back into the alleyways they'd come through, and Etsali rolled to her feet to get to work. No one would expect unwanted company to come in from up here, so the balcony door wouldn't be locked as securely as the front door, she was sure. And soon enough she was in, all according to plan. She allowed herself another laugh as she looked around the room.
"Alright, let's see what you've been leaving behind for me all this time!"

Traveling had taken up much more prominence in milieu's life ever since she had grown fond of Vremea and Chitentown. More than once she had considered moving to the arid desert, but she knew that the climate was not somethign suitable for Owlmom... And that was someone who had been left behind in the hive more than once. Owlmom didn't seem to mind, but it was becoming worrisome. Was she lonely? Was she happy? It was hard to tell. Milieu knew Owlmom didn't agree with how her little charge had grown and changed, but she never outwardly objected those changes.
Still, Milieu decided to patch their relationship. A night on the town, going to fun little events here and there... Exploring boutiques... Oh it was a good time. Milieu walked with her heels in one hand, her satchel bouncing gently against her hip as her feet slapped the concrete sidewalk. Owlmom flew over head, hooting happily. Good... Milieu smiled up at the bird. Good.
Reaching home, she watched as Owlmom flew up to the perch. It was getting late.. Perhaps, the tealblood thought, she would rest for the evening? No... That idea was boshed quickly as Owlmom swooped back down, hooting softly in distress. Milieu reached out and touched the beach of her lusus as it continued to hoot unhappily, wings fluttering quick and in clear unease. What was wrong? Something was wrong with the hive. That had to be the problem. Frowning, Milieu slipped the daggers from her satchel and carefully, quietly, opened the door to her hive.
It was dark inside, no lights burning. Holding her breath, the tealblood let her heightened hearing take place. There. It was soft. But movement. Milieu narrowed her eyes. Who was here? Definitely not Lunear or the scouts... Then a burglar? A drone who found out her intentions and rebel connections? Sneaking along in the dark she approached the sound. Milieu intended to take the advantage, but a particularly squeaky board blew the plan to smithereens.
She jumped towards the sound, daggers barred.

Etsali made sure not to switch on any lights as she worked her way through the room connected to the balcony, using the moonlight filtering in through the windows to see her way. She wasn't expecting trouble, that was the whole point of being here now after all, but no good ever came of being careless. Keeper, if she was still nearby, would have given her a scolding for it later anyway. So she was taking her time, moving slow and quiet, and everything was going well for a while.
Until, of course, she heard the sound. The thief stilled immediately, head tilting as she listened, and she strained to place what it had sounded like. A sort of muffled sound, kind of like...wings? Her head turned towards the doorway and with a silent curse she realized she'd forgotten to account for the possible return of the lusus. Slowly, ever so slowly, she lowered a hand to pop open the pouch at her belt that held her knives, and then she moved towards the other door, hoping to escape notice through going downstairs.
The second she heard the creak she was moving backwards, long before she even saw the flash of moonlight across a pair of blades. Welp, the balcony probably had a lusus on it now, and obviously her way to the stairs was blocked. With a nervous grin, she palmed a knife in one hand and lifted the other as if in surrender. "Woah, woah, hold on, there's no need for all of this! I'm sure we can talk this out, right?" She took another step back, giving ground in what would hopefully take this stranger off guard. "There's no need to be so hasty!"
A sharp flick of her wrist sent the knife flying.

Perhaps the orangeblood was right? If someone had broken into her hive, perhaps it was due to needing something? It didn't sit well with the tealblood, but who was she to deny someone help? Of course, those thoughts were smashed when Etsali threw the blade. Milieu caught the reflection of the moonlight and was able to jerk her face away in time to feel it bite into her cheek, slicing it and cutting a chunk of hair air at the same time.
Her hairstyle became undone then, the curls loosely framing her face and middle upper back. A snarl, silent, but still chock full of rage, twisted the tealblood's face. Launching herself forward, she slashed the daggers violently in the air, but only got a dissatisfying sensation of air. If only she could speak! bitter anger boiled up her windchute. I'm going to make you pay.

"Woah, okay, I gotta admit," Etsali paused, gasping as she only just barely managed to avoid the slash of the daggers. "That was kind of a low blow. Probably too late to start over and try that again, huh?" It was easier to make out the tealblood's face now that they were both in more or less the center of the room where the most light seemed to filter through. It was a pretty one, even twisted up into that snarl, and there was something vaguely familiar about it that she couldn't quite put her finger on. She just wished the troll would say something so she could get a better read on her.
There wouldn't be a need for that if she could get out here though. The thief's eyes darted back towards the dark stairwell, then slid back to watch the movement of her opponent's blades. The next time Milieu came forward, Etsali moved too, taking the risk of being hit for the chance shove into the tealblood's shoulder. If she twisted to the side, Etsali could move with it, get a clear path to escape. It sounded so easy when she thought about it like that, didn't it?

Etsali's maneuver was risky. Milieu winced at the shove on her shoulder, and as predicted her body was twisted awkwardly to the side. However, be it rage or the close proximity, Milieu now could shove at dagger at Etsali unhindered by either darkness or distance. Daggers were extremely effective in close combat, and this was no exception to that rule.
There was something familiar about this thief. Her eyes, and that goofy mask. Also the horns and her way of speaking seemed reminiscent of something. Something that had happened a while ago, when she was much younger. It didn't matter now. Milieu shoved the thoughts from her mind and tried to keep focus on the battle at hand.

Etsali hissed as she felt the dagger bite into her side, falling back as far away from the reach of the blade as she could. As she pressed a hand to the cut, she quickly took stock of her positioning to make sure she'd gone the right way. Milieu wasn't in between her and the doorway anymore, which meant that the move had at least worked, even if she'd taken a hit in the process. The thing was, making a run for it was going to be a risk of its own.
The thief reached for another knife, telegraphing her moves as much as possible to be sure her opponent would know exactly what she was doing. Her arm moved through all the motions of throwing it, but at the last second she held fast instead of releasing. She only had so many knives, after all, and she didn't plan to stick around here for the chance to collect. In the same second, she whirled to bolt towards the stairwell. It wasn't much of a plan, really, but if the fake out had bought her even the barest bit of time, it was something.

A sickening twist of glee burned though Milieu. She wanted this woman's blood more than she could muster. It captivated her and pushed her in a way that the normally gentle tealblood was not used to. In the past acts of violence hadn't been too keen to her, but this... This felt right. Glorious, even. Her blood hummed for more, but thankfully not enough to miss the que of Etsali drawing the blade.
Milieu ducked to one side, expecting the sound of the blade whizzing in the air. When only silence greeted her, Mili stood in stunned silence. Rage burst across every fiber of her being. A trick. A good trick at that. There was feet on the stairwell.
Being her hive, she knew the steps and the layout well. Leaping into action, Milieu took two stairs at a time, grabbing for the thief in front of her. Her hands grasped Etsali's belt and with a triumphant grin, Milieu jerked the thief back as hard as she could. When Etsali moved backwards, the tealblood pressed her body to the side of the stairwell - throwing her intruder down the stairs.

The footsteps didn't falter once they started after her, and Etsali resisted an urge to curse aloud as she acknowledged the advantage her opponent had. This was the tealblood's own hive, and once the thief was on the stairs she'd be giving up the higher ground to someone more than ready to hurt her. All she could do was keep running, but then, suddenly, she felt a jerk. She had just enough time to gasp in a breath before she was falling, bouncing to a stop at the floor below seconds later.
Everything hurt. Groaning, the orangeblood rolled off of her back and managed through pure force of will to push herself up off of the floor. She'd lost the knife she'd been carrying, but a quick pass of her fingers over the floor around her only found her hat. She struggled for another knife and threw it up the stairs without taking the time to settle her aim. Then she grabbed her hat and limped for where she hoped she'd find the front door.

Milieu stalked down the stairs, overly confident that her opponent was done. It appeared that the thief was heading to the front door to leave. Letting the go was the higher troll thing to do, the better troll thing to do. Right now, Milieu couldn't stop her blood lust if she had wanted to. Frankly, she didn't want to. Breaking into her home. Asking for forgiveness and then landing a blow when she was defenseless. They had sealed their fate. Though, the sauntering confidence lead to a knife slicing her cheek. Wincing, Milieu jumped the last few stairs and took a run at the escaping Etsali. With as much force, and cruelty, as she could muster, the teal troll slammed her heeled boot into the prone troll's side. Quote: HP: 10/20 Military Grade Weapon: 1d6+1 dmg 6

Etsali HP: 2/20 Damage: 3 Etsali cried out in pain as Milieu's heel connected, both curling in on herself and twisting in attempt to protect her ribs from taking any more of a beating. She wasn't going to last long if this kept up, she knew, and there was only so long she could defend herself down here at all. The door had been so close, if she just had one more push, she was sure...Well, the opportunity wasn't going to make itself.
Gritting her teeth, she moved again, kicking a leg out at the tealblood's to take her off balance and hopefully to the ground herself. Without hesitation, she surged up towards the door, hand grasping at the doorknob and shoving it open. It was easy to think she'd made it, when the fresh air washed over her. Clutching her side, she stumbled one step through the doorway.
