User ImageName:
Stemma — a type of simple eye
Morgen — from the witch, morgen le fay

Blood colour: Purple —#592294

Gender: Female

Symbol: User Image

Profile: Stemma knows that she's special, and expects to be treated as such. Flattery will get you everywhere with her; she absolutely loves talking about herself. Proud and arrogant, she's been pampered and praised by her lusus since the very day she emerged from the caves. She expects respect and adoration from her peers, even from those of a higher caste. Personally, she regards herself as more special than seadwellers, as their mutation is far more common than hers. Thankfully, it would be unlikely for her to speak out about such a thing, as she knows better than to incite their wrath.

Though she hides her mutation in public, Stemma loves her third eye. Her pride for her mutation is akin to her blood status or her personal beliefs, defending it with violence if necessary. Her lusus, Krampa, has always assured her that her mutation makes her very special, and it is only through his worried wishes that she keeps it a secret from the populace. Stemma eagerly awaits the day that her lusus will regard her as strong enough to defend herself, which is the marker for when she'll be allowed to flaunt her mutation in public. For the time being, Stemma is only allowed to show close friends her mutation, and only after Krampa has granted explicit permission.

Preferring to keep strict control over all the nuances of her life, Stemma tends to try and control other trolls to suit her needs. She's very empathetic and reads emotions easily, and will play up the weaknesses of other trolls until they're putty in her hands. Open to commit bribery, flirtation, and threats, Stemma will do whatever she needs to keep her associates in line.

All of Stemma's relationships are categorized into three groups, associates, friends, and acquaintances. Associates are usually those she keeps around for her own benefit, be it status, spiritual, or education related. Her friends are those she regularly, genuinely enjoys the company of. More often then not, her friends are of the yes-man variety, or they share very similar thoughts to her own. Acquaintances usually transition quickly to the rank of friend or associate, unless they are a lowblood who caught her in a good mood, in which case acquaintance is as high as they can go.

While she prefers to work in controlled environments, this doesn't hold Stemma back from being a very curious troll. She wants to do her best to fully understand the world around her, and works hard to learn as much as possible. Her studies heavily concentrate on reading, but she does spend a certain amount of time participating in field studies (when her lusus allows it). She's interested in the natural and spiritual world alike, and gets as excited about flowers as she does about cadavers.

Stemma's lusus, Krampa, raised his charge with specific spiritual teachings about Alternia. According to the satyr, ghosts are a regular, driving force in everyday life, working like a karma system. Good, benevolent ghosts live at the core of the planet, enjoying an eternity of luxury. The evil ghosts live in exile, outcast to the surface where they prey on weak-willed and wicked trolls. The bad ghosts regularly search for vessels, claiming deceased bodies of trolls and turning them into daywalkers. As such, Stemma has strong beliefs about burial, believing that bodies should be buried underground, facing the good ghosts of the core, should they be benevolent enough to allow your spirit to join them.

Krampa gives the final say in Stemma's pursuit of knowledge. When Stemma's personal research conflicts with his teachings, her first action is consult him. Both believe that the natural and the spiritual are finely in tune with one another, sometimes in methods beyond Krampa's understanding. They will often work together to solve these riddles of life and death.

Stemma believes that she bears an enormous burden for the rest of the population, both as a purpleblood and a disciple of her lusus. She maintains a cultured disposition to provide example to the rest of the population. Even as a small child, she sees herself as a leader figure and accepts such responsibility. Stemma accepts her spiritual responsibilities with glee, always eager to go out with Krampa and tend to forgotten corpses. She is also willing to personally educate the public, but she also understands that the process will take patience. For now, she accepts that the amount of corpses she buries as a step in the right direction, as small as that step may be.

Stemma is invested wholeheartedly in practices to better her understanding of the unseen. Krampa keeps her focused on divination practices, seeing her third eye as a gift that improves her seeing capabilities. Even as a child, Stemma is fairly knowledgeable about cartomancy and palmistry, and even knows a bit about scrying and potion-making.

A big fan of systems, Stemma thinks the hemospectrum is the one of the greatest, most effective systems on Alternia. As a proud purpleblood, she feels as if the topic is a closed book, that it is the obvious nature of highbloods to rule, and that they are inherently better than the lower castes. Her prejudices do give her a slight fear of lowbloods, terrified by the thought of rebellion— worried that they are secretly plotting the demise of highbloods such as herself. As such, she categorizes them as dangerous and unpredictable. She prefers not to involve herself with any warmbloods, and is especially skeptical of hemoanonymous trolls.

Though her studies occupy most of her time, Stemma does make the time to take breaks and enjoy selfish indulgences. She enjoys fashion and makeup, and spends a great deal of free time shopping. And while relatively pampered in taste, Stemma has a number of guilty pleasures she lets few know about, including fried foods, carnival games and thrill rides.

Strengths: Empathetic— Em is quick to pick up on the emotions of other trolls. She's quick to pick up on social cues, and without even thinking, she'll tailor her behavior to speaking with another troll, acting and reacting with whatever incites them and suits her purpose.

Precise— Emma prefers precision, keeping things controlled and leaving no room for error. In her mind, she keeps everything perfectly organized and under control. As such, she has a very keen memory, and can remember small details clearly, even perigees after the fact.

Intellectual— Krampa makes sure that Stemma is extremely well-read and cultured. She plays up her knowledge on a regular basis, whether it's to think her way out of a conflict or to impress another troll.

Flaws: Controlling— Stemma has a hard time letting things go, especially concerning other trolls. She'll linger in unwanted or unreciprocated relationships, out of the sheer stubbornness of thinking she can change the other troll. Often, she'll find herself suffering emotional stress for not cutting ties earlier.

Meticulous— Often too careful, Stemma sometimes shuts off if she decides that her things are not in order. Although she tries to keep her panic internal, her nervous silence isn't hard to notice. In these moments, she tries to recalibrate a new plan of action, but often over-corrects and makes an even bigger mess of things.

Proud— Stemma's status and superstitions are very important to her, and she will defend both with ferocity, even getting into skirmishes to protect them. Her pride is the one thing that most often breaks her collected demeanor, causing her to quickly lose focus in important situations.

Weapon: Potions. Stemma uses her natural knowledge to craft potent concoctions that can injure her opponents with its gas or effects. And even if the potion's a dud, it still hurts to get smashed with a glass bottle!

Appearance: Her most obvious feature, Stemma has a third eye! She wears a lot of eye makeup, and on her third eye, too. She also has cheek dimples, which she's very proud of. Her horns are tiny and demon-like. They'll eventually get bigger and curl upward like a drill.

As a child, Stemma loves scene and punk looks. Something like this, but with a less detailed, off-shoulder tee. Her hair is short, but very fluffy. She styles it to cover her eyes, like such, with horizontal stripes dyed to her hair color.

Home: Stemma lives in Civisect, in a multi-story hive on the boardwalk. She prefers the safety and the (primarily highblooded) company of the city.

Her hive is tightly packed with books, natural objects, and knick-knacks. Stemma loves the idea that every object holds its own personal journey, and has a hard time letting items go. As such, her hive appears very cluttered to others, despite her assertion that everything is organized and in its place.

Lusus: Krampa! Krampa is a very large, buff Satyr with a very impressive beard. Despite his old age and terrifying appearance, he is actually a very kind and responsible lusus. He loves Stemma with all of his being, and expects great things from her. Of course, he's quick to punish Stemma when she does wrong, but for the most part she has him wrapped around her little finger. He gives Stemma everything she asks for, from make-up to tea parties, to piggy back rides. She's definitely been spoiled by him, and expects similar pampering from the other trolls in her life.

Krampa is a big worrier. Despite mutations being accepted for a troll of Stemma's caste, he still worries about the potential dangers of it. He is very much aware of the dangers of Alternia, and is constantly afraid of the crazier trolls that might try to take out Stemma while she's young. At the very least he worries that Stemma might be teased for her mutation, so he asks her to cover it in public.

Power: Precognition (Defense Style B). Stemma's third eye helps her see more of what's going on around her. Her wider range of vision helps her predict oncoming attacks, giving her more time to defend herself.

STOP

STEMMA TIME

Here we go cool

Stemma is reading great! I have some elaboration questions but nothing is contradicting at this point. She sounds like a great addition to our whacky world of silly trolls.

Why does Stemma prefer to keep strict control of her life? It seems as though she has the ability to do anything she wants (in any manner she wants) via her doting lusus, and considering she can get away with many things as a purpleblood which I’d immediately assume would make her a bit more loosey goosey (a technical term).

Since Stemma’s religious beliefs are essentially unique to her, how does she handle opposing views on Alternia? Essentially the entirety of the population doesn’t follow her rituals; does she actively go out to try and fight said issues or even go out and deal with the dead herself? As well, how does her scientific interest play with her spiritual one? Is there much overlap or friction?

I’d definitely like to know more about Stemma’s mutation and how it affects her. Obviously she’s proud of it (and she can definitely get away with being kind of freaky as a purpleblood!) but does she pay any mind to those who think less of her or see her as an oddity for her eye? And since she’s often covering it up is it something of a novelty for her to show off to whoever or does she tend to keep it a secret until she’s closer to someone?

Manipulative: This will be situational and certainly depend on the troll in question – and since she’s a purpleblood she can definitely get away with it and benefit from it! I’m not convinced it’s really hurting her at this point, and especially not regularly so.

Meticulous: What does it look like when Stemma shuts herself off? Does she flee or cause a ruckus or over-correct? I’m liking this as a response to failure in her precision but I’d like to know more how it comes into play.

Woo!

Thanks so much for the crit! I addressed the topics you brought up, and I rewrote the two problem flaws. Everything new is in purple!

Your additions are great! Reading through Stemma again I think there’s just one key thing I’m missing and that’s largely based on Stemma’s socialization!

You mention in general that Stemma prefers control, which applies to other trolls as well. Specifically, the phrase “Stemma will do whatever she needs to keep her associate in line” is an interesting one because it implies she has colleagues or partners in some way. Does she try to recruit others to her cause, or in society does she get ahead using her “associates”? They certainly don’t seem like her actual friends, and if so why does she consider them her associates?

The idea is also brought up that Stemma doesn’t show her third eye to anyone but her close friends. Does she generally make friends? What does being a friend mean to Stemma, and how might one become a close friend – and if so are they really “close” in the sense that she feels an actual connection beyond using them.

Another thing I’ll caution you about is making sure that Stemma is reading as a kid! She has a great deal of knowledges and even a business. The business I’m a bit concerned about, especially with attracting clients and the kind of business it is – there isn’t a lot of detail here for me and in fact I almost missed it on this readover!

keep on keepin on owo

Thanks for the crit!

I added the bolded paragraph above, detailing how she breaks down her social circle, which talks about her idea of close friends versus associates.

I took bits and pieces out here and there, reducing her knowledge and taking out the business aspect. I think when I wrote this, the Civisect Mall wasn't a location at the time. I was very excited when it did come up, specifically for Stemma. I will probably grow her business prospects there!
