Summer time was quite possibly the best time.
It wasn't that Evangeline didn't like the other seasons, there were very few things that the little girl didn't like. She liked the flowers of spring and playing in sloppy puddles with her rain boots. She liked building snowmen and watching her breath in the winter. And of course the leaves of fall! And Halloween! But the freedom of summer was hard to beat for a child. Waking up whenever she wanted, not having to worry about getting ready for school (even if she did really like school too!). Each and every day was a brand new adventure. She could try to fill the hours however she wanted to, and most likely there would still be plenty of hours after lunch to do something else interesting and fun.
On this summer morning she'd gotten out early, playing outside before the heat of the day really set in. She'd been playing in her own yard mostly, until the prettiest black and blue butterfly had flittered through her yard. And then she couldn't help herself but follow along after it, skipping lightly down the sidewalk. "Come back hereeeee" She called out in soft sing song.

Evren had today decided to work her part time job of walking some of the more outdoorsy cats who had a lot of energy to spare. Today she was wearing an outfit suited for summer. A sleeveless lolita outfit with a straw hat, ankle high socks and classic maryjane shoes. She was walking along the side walk before she decided to kneel down to attend to the five cats that all varied in colors. She pulled out a water dispenser for each of the cats to be able to take a drink. "Now everyone make sure you share nicely now." It was then a certain black and blue butterfly decided to perch itself on Evren's hat. Of course our flame haired girl was completely oblivious to it.

She didn't have to travel that far, which was good because her mom got mad if she went too far away from the house without letting her know, before the butterfly perched itself. But now that the butterfly had stopped, it was almost entirely forgotten, Eva's eyes widening at what she saw.
The butterfly had landed on a girl. In a very pretty and poofy dress, and at her feet was a whole hoard of adorable cats. It was like Snow White or Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. Was she a princess!? Cats weren't exactly 'woodland friends' but in the city it'd look pretty weird to see deers and skunks and racoons. Yep, she just had to be! It was pretty much the only explanation.
"Hello your majesty." The little girl piped up, making a polite curtsey like the ones she'd seen in movies. Eva really wanted to run over an pet her cats, but she was pretty sure you didn't just do that to a Princess' animal friends unless you asked first!

Evren looked up at the small girl and smiled ah this actually wasn't the first time something like this had happened to her... even her younger sister was insistent on her being a princess. Evren chuckled, she tended to just play along a lot in these situations. "Hello. My name is Evren Porter." She then tucked the water dispenser back into her purse and scratched the ginger cat's ear. "It's a pleasure to meet you... young miss." She said tilting her head keeping down at kneeling level. She picked up the cat she was petting into her lap. "You wouldn't happen to be interested in petting one of these guys would you?" She said with sort of singing like voice.

"I'm Evangeline Nene." She replied politely in response, before adding in abruptly. "But my friends call me Eva too, so that's okay too." She was fidgeting pretty obviously, shifting a little from foot to foot in excitement.
When Evren lifted up the kitty it was obvious the little girl didn't need a second invitation. She braced the distance quickly, but slowed down right before she reached the pile of cats, not wanting to scare them. And her hand reached out slowly and carefully, an obvious sign of child that had been properly taught how to treat animals.
"Are all of these cats yours?" She asked as she pet the cat gently. "I only have 1 cat and 2 bunnies. Their names are Buttons and Smoochy and Flash."

Evren smiled. "Nice to meet you, Eva." She watched as the girl pet the cat. She giggled as the girl asked if all the cats where hers. "Oh no. I'm just taking care of these guys for their owners today." She smiled as the girl seemed to be enamored by the cats. "Tabby here likes to be pet around the ears."

Eva obliged the directions, her tiny fingers shifting from the cat's back up to the ears, scratching real gently right behind the left ear. A tiny giggle escaped her at the soft rattle of purring that responded to her touch.
"Oh that's nice of you to take care of them." From what she had seen princesses were nice after all, so it made sense.
"But I've never seen cats walk on leashes before... How do you make them do that?" Her eyes were wide and curious.
"Buttons mostly just lays around. Or sometimes walks around the back yard. He's really really fat."

Evren put her finger to her chin and hummed in thought. This lasted for a few seconds before she said "Ah ha." And put her finger pointing up into the air instead of on her chin. The butterfly on her head flew off for a sort of dramatic effect. "You see animals are a lot like people! Like Tabby is different form Noel." She said gesturing to a different cat who was now laying down on the sidewalk next to her. "Some cats have a lot of energy and want to go outside and have adventures but their human parents are afraid they might get lost. So we take them out for some exercise!" She said with a cat like smile. "Of course not all cats are interested in getting exercise. Some like Buttons want to laze the day away. Ah but make sure not to give him too much snacks if he's not exercising we don't want Buttons to not even be able to pick himself up right." He added in that last little bit because she knew it was hard to resist the temptation to give animals treats.

It was good advice, as children in particular were pretty bad about slipping scraps to pets or over indulging them. "Sometimes Buttons tries to steal my milk when I'm done with my cereal. I'll have to make sure he doesn't drink too much!"
Another giggle escaped the little girl as the butterfly departed, but she made no attempt to follow it this time. Her attention had been throughly stolen by Princess Evren and her interest in the butterfly had waned.
Listening with soft interest, Eva nodded at the explaination. "That makes sense, my two bunnies are very different from each other. I bet Flash would like to go for walks. Do you walk rabbits too?" Did all animals with energy get walked? Lizards, cows, elephants!? The thought of someone walking a giant elephant down the street with a leash drew a wide grin to her face.

Evren chuckled. "Yes some cats can be quite the gluttonous. I bet you'll do a great job making sure he stays healthy." It was also bad for a cat's health to drink cow milk but she decided not to bring this up as to confuse the child. She then tilted her head and closed her eyes in thought at the next question. "I mostly walk cats and dogs... I don't think they make leashes small enough to secure a rabbit..." She blinked a few times before petting one of the cats that started to rub against her. "Ah but if they do you can probably walk one... just not in the city." She winked her right eye and put on a grin. "Because rabbits are small you know. Which means they get tired out easier. But you could probably take your rabbit for a walk around your yard." It would also be safer for them she nods her head to this thought. Walking a small rabbit in a large area might be tough. Of course there was small dogs... Though she thinks its because of the way a rabbit is built differently from cats and dogs they get tired out easier... ah but that might be harder to explain... In truth Eva's mother was the one that REALLY tended to the welfare of their animals, but Eva was a good little helper. She played with them and brushed them. Occasionally helped in feeding them or giving them their baths.
"A tiny rabbit leash would be so cuuuute!" She giggled happily at the thought. "My bunnies just play in our yard though. We've got a fence so in the morning they get let out of their hutch and get to run around for awhile."
"But not in the garden because then they'll eat all the vegetables! But sometimes I feed them to funny looking carrots." The last part was said in a bit of a whisper, as if it was some big secret.
Blathering on excitedly, as young children often did, she continued to pet the kitty as she spoke. Finally settling on a final exclaimation. "I want to walk animals too when I get bigger!"Stump_Fairy No worries, I'm not in any rush at all. heart

Evern closed her eyes and smiled a little bit of a goofy smile as she thought about bunnies jumping around in the back yard. What a cute image. "I'm sure your rabbits are a adorable." You could almost see the little flowers floating around her head. She kept the big grin on her face when the little girl said she wanted to walk animals when she got older. "You want to walk animals when you're is older..." She tilted her head. "Well if Eva's mother would allow it... maybe you could come and help me out sometime~" She said this with a grin.

"Really!!" Her voice practically squealed, a noise that might have caught the attention of a few sensitive kitty ears. Her eyes almost comically wide as the older girl made her offer. The get to walk all sorts of cute little animals was fun enough, but to get to join a princess while she walked cute little animals! And she didn't even have to wait the forever long it would take to grow up!?
"We can ask my mom! She'll probably say yes." Evangeline stood finally from her crouched position, pointing back in the direction she'd came from. "I don't live too far away from here."
In her excitement, she almost forgot her manners, only remembering at the last moment that someone like a princess might have some place important to go. "Or if you don't have time for that today we can ask some other day."

Evren stood up making sure the cat who was on her lap was safely on the ground. Evren gave a bright smile. "Yes, I wouldn't mind accompanying you." Evren chuckled. "My families animal clinic that I work from is not to far from here so its not out of my way." She shook the leashes that were attached to the cats slightly so that they all stood up to continue on their walk. "I love meeting new people so I would love to meet your mother." She said with a blush.

Eva waited patiently as Evren prepared herself and her slew of kitties to start moving along again. But when it seemed like they were all ready Eva took off, leading the way in with a half walking/half skipping motion, her long hair swinging back and forth as she did.
"Clinic. That's like a doctor isn't it?" She piped up curiously, having overheard the term at some point or another. Being a vet was a common wish of young children, that and dolphin trainer. Eva didn't know what she wanted to do yet, she was still way too little with so many years ahead of her to make those decisions, but working with animals didn't sound like it could be bad.
It was barely a block before they found themselves outside a charming little house with a decent sized backyard that included a rabbit hutch, a small garden, a swing set, and given the summer time a small plastic kiddie pool. If Even looked hard enough she might even see Eva's own cat, napping on the interior ledge of one of the downstairs windows.
Pausing outside the chain link fence, she smiled to the older girl. "Okay, I'll be right back, I'll go get my mom!" And with that she quickly disappeared through the gate and into the house.
It took only a minute or so for Eva to return, this time with a woman in tow. One who seemed almost surprised to see someone else outside, having assumed that she was getting dragged out to meet yet another imaginary friend. The woman, Anabelle, made her way to the fence with her daughter in tow, still trying to shake her look of surprise as she neared. "Well hello there." Her eyes dipped to the handful of leashes and the cats attached to them, a smile touching her lips. "Is my daughter keeping you from doing your job?" She mused. "Nooooo." Eva pouted indignantly.
