Memories were a fickle thing with her, and she felt sick every time she thought she might remember something. Nothing ever happened, she couldn't remember... Honestly, she wasn't sure she wanted to. Everywhere she went when she ventured out she got looks of pity, scared looks from children, curious glances, and questions. The eye patch she wore just drew more attention than she liked. So, if she had to go out, Rin always went at night, and went somewhere very close to the place she called home. Kip was so kind to offer his home to her like this. Today she got a late start on her day. Wandering out of her bedroom in an over sized shirt and a pair of shorts, she pulled her hair back and blinked at the sunlit living room. Of course she wrinkled her nose in disgust and then rolled the visible eye. The other covered by the black eyepatch with a white 'x' over it, like it was some comical thing. One had to have a sense of humor about things. If you couldn't laugh at yourself what could you laugh at, honestly? That's what she'd told the lady when she bought it. "Kip?" Was he even home? She walked around a bit, and pouted before heading for the door that led to the garden.

The backyard and the koi pond contained therein had become something of a refuge for Kekipi. It was quiet. Peaceful. It let him think.
Granted, his thoughts were hardly restful, but that couldn't be helped. He was thinking about his promise to Ate to slough away his mortal life, to devote himself entirely to Metallia. For better or worse, that promise had been easy enough to keep. At least where his personal relationships were concerned. Yuki had vanished not long after their dinner date. His phone calls had gone unanswered and he was slightly ashamed to feel relief at that. He had not been forced to end things and put a girl who didn't deserve such things through necessary cruelty.
Just because he worshipped Metallia didn't mean he was a d**k, after all. He heard Rin coming outside and sighed a little. Much as he'd enjoyed being assigned to keep watch on her, to have some power over the girl who'd magicked him into attacking a shrubbery, he couldn't even be cruel to her. Not when her memories confused her so. He could sympathize with her. And sympathy had the potential to get them both killed. Bother, bother, bother.
Rather than answer, he stayed where he was, simply watching his fish idly swimming. If she actually wanted to talk, fine. But he still had things to think about outside of one amnesiac senshi.

Rin knew something was wrong with Kip when she'd 'moved in' more or less. He was... going through something. Seemed sad some days and fine the next. She never really pried as to why; it wasn't her business. She was here because he was forced to take her in, basically, and look out for her. While she relied on him... he seemed a bit distant. They didn't really interact too much but at the same time... it was enough? When she spotted him at his koi pond, Rin played with her newly manicured fingernails and bit down on her lip a little. "Sorry to bug you.. I was.. going to make some food and wanted to know if you were hungry?" She was hesitant in asking. Even though he'd always been at arms length, he seemed a different kind of quiet and distant, honestly. It... bugged her for no reason. Like she was getting pissy in her room because of it. "I was thinking maybe some kind of tuna melt sandwich, if that's alright."

The mention of food made his stomach growl audibly and Kekipi couldn't help but laugh a little. Pushing himself to his feet, he smiled at the girl and nodded agreeably.
"I suppose it's a good thing that I have you here to help me remember to eat," he said as he closed the short distance between them. Reaching out, he gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze before moving to pat her on the head.
"You're not bugging me, Rin. I am here to help you make sense of things now. I don't want you to be afraid to come to me if you need help."
All true enough, though he wondered just how well he would be able to keep that promise in the light of his other duties and needs. All I can do is my best, he thought. Rin would understand in time.
"Tuna melt sounds good. I'll come in and help you, if you don't mind. I can make us a fruit salad for after too, if you want. Or maybe a civeche for dinner tonight?"
He paused a moment to consider her. The eyepatch, at least, was no longer causing him to wince every time he saw it. But she looked mildly disaffected. Maybe he'd been neglecting her in his search for inner truth. Well, he would make up for it now.
"Actually, how do you feel about just having a bit of a play day in the kitchen? We can make whatever you want. My recipe cards and cookbooks are at your disposal, m'lady."
He bowed slightly, grinning and trying to coax a smile out of her. He had been neglecting her. Poor thing. She had been an enemy. Now she wasn't. It was his job to care for her and he'd been doing a lousy job so far.
At least for today, Metallia could wait. After all, it was still serving Her will by easing another convert into the flock.

The response in a whole wasn't something Rin expected. Her eye widened slightly and then softened before her lips tilted very, very slightly. "If you want.." The black haired girl had expected him to stay out here with his thoughts like usual, but this... could be a good thing maybe? "Though, I'm warning you, I think I'm new at cooking? I looked up a youtube video on how to make a tuna melt and wanted to try that.." She pulled her phone out of her pocket as if it'd prove her point. Phone still out, she turned around to walk back to the kitchen and looked around before sighing. There was a reason when it was her turn to cook she ordered food. ...Or so she thought. "I guess, though," she murmured, slipping her phone on the table and starting to rummage for the pan, "we'll never now my level until I try." Rin didn't know his thoughts on Metallia. She didn't have any of her own right now because she didn't realize what, or who, she was fighting for. Just one day she woke up battered, and bruised, and in his care. That's how it'd been. "...So. ...Is.. it okay to ask about the other side of things while we're normal?" Finally she found the right pan and put it on the stove. In a nervous habit, she fiddled with the handle and kept her back toward Kip.

Glancing down at the proferred phone, Kekipi couldn't help but smile a bit more. Oh youtube. Was there nothing it couldn't teach? Nodding, he followed her into the kitchen and began to pull out the ingredients she'd need as well as the stuff for the salad he wanted to make.
"That's the spirit. If you don't try, then you'll never learn or get better. Don't worry about whether or not you were good at something before. That'll only drive you crazy in the long run."
At least he could be confident in trying to teach her that much. He'd spent so long trying to remember who and what he'd been before, instead of focusing on who he was now. What a waste of time he could have spent doing something productive. He worked in silence for a moment before her question made me glance up and study her back closely.
"When we're alone or with others who share our... extracurricular activities," he replied after a moment. "I take it you have questions?"

As he started to pull ingredients out, Rin toyed with her pinkie nail a bit and then bit down on her bottom lip. "...I have a few questions, actually," she admitted, looking around to her batch of ingredients. Grabbing the tuna, she glanced back at him and then cleared her throat. "...Wh..Who are we fighting for? What.. are we fighting for? I... just feel like I'm aimless. Like, before this happened.." She tapped her eyepatch with a finger nail, "I had some kind of purpose and now I've lost it.." Like her memories. Just like her memories. She knew she had them, obviously she did, but... This was so difficult some days. "...I don't understand why ..when I power up I have a hole in my chest and forehead. Is it really a hole? Where does it go? Why do we have them? Does it lead to pocket space?" Eris, in either form, had no idea that Corrupts could pull their starseeds out of their holes in their chests. She had only seen a starseed once or twice, and never her own. She wanted to poke the holes, but... would it hurt? Rin licked her lips as she just started opening cans, preparing the tuna melts from memory.

Pausing a moment in his fruit chopping, Kekipi carefully set the knife down and turned to really look at Rin. Her questions were so much like his own had been when he'd been saved. Leaning against the counter, he considered for a moment. Then, he came to a decision and in a gentle voice said, "Power up."
Though soft, the words were clearly an order. He powered up as well since he was reasonably certain that the little demonstration he had planned wouldn't work otherwise.
Without taking his eyes from her's, Haumea placed his fingers against the hole in his chest and concentrated. He could feel his fingers scrap against his starseed as he carefully withdrew it and let his balance on the tip of his finger. He was showing off and he knew it, but she didn't need to know that.
Still, he couldn't remain like this for long and after a suitable wait, he pushed the delicate little gem back where it belonged. Then, he pointed first at her chest with one long finger.
"That hole is where your starseed rests, little one. Though I don't recommend copying my little trick too often. You will die if too long separated from your starseed. But as a momentary thing to shock your enemy? Bold tactic. As for your forehead, I can only repeat what I have been told. That is where the sigil of your planet would be, your connection to Eris itself. If you touch either, they really don't feel like much of anything. Except, perhaps, for where your starseed rests."
Pursing his lips, he tried to decide how best to answer the rest of her questions. As much truth as he knew. Truth was all that could possibly make her less agitated.
"We fight for Metallia, little Eris. We fight to return this planet that is rightfully hers to her loving bosom. Senshi like us have been given a great honor, you know. We've been given a chance to make up for our parts in prolonging this damned war. The goddess has given us a chance to make things right. That is your purpose, my friend. You may have other, lesser purposes as time goes by. But never forget that you were chosen to be saved. You... We are warriors of Metallia now."
Sincerity radiated from him like a tangible mist. Deep in his heart he knew that every word he'd said was the absolute truth. Then, Haumea was gone and Kekipi stood there for a few seconds before calmly returning to his fruit chopping duties.
"Do you have other questions?"

When he ended up putting the knife down, she felt as if she might have asked too many questions, or hit a nerve. Rin looked worried for a minute and then then let her brows knit a little before he ordered her to power up. She... really hated doing that with her missing eye. But still... She did as he was told, powering up, feeling her hair grow and weigh her down. Her hands shifted to toy with her skirts, dusting them off slowly and then looked up at him with her one good eye. Watching him power up, she couldn't help but feel a familiar tingle, and couldn't help but smile a little at the sight of him. But then he put his fingers in his chest and she winced and almost looked away. However morbid this was, she was fascinated, so she didn't. Eris watched as he pulled his starseed out and just tilted her head to the side. Interesting. "So that's where they are." A dark eye flicked to the hole in her chest and she slowly pushed her fingers through to feel the pointed tip of her own starseed. Slowly she pulled it out, making a face at how weird it felt to do this and just held it between her thumb and pointer, blinking. It was dark. Dark purple like most of herself. Did it always reflect your fuku color? Questions for later. Once Haumea said she'd die, it went right back in her chest. Then his explanation of the forehead hole came up and she listened, pushing a hand over it lightly, brows knitting. A sigh left Eris's lips and she nodded. The way Haumea spoke about Metallia sent warmth through her. Eris could feel it through her entire body, that he spoke the truth. The look on his face was absolutely priceless and worth her questions. Then, just like that, he was Kip again and acting as though nothing had just happened. So she powered down and bit down on her lip lightly before smiling. "...I see. Thank you for answering.. I don't think I have any more questions right now.." That was pretty much the mos immediate thing on her mind.

Smiling a little, he finished chopping up the fruit and turned to where he kept a bag of roasted walnuts and siezing a handful, began chopping those as well.
"Well, if you do ever have more questions, don't be afraid to ask, all right? I don't bite and I'm hardly going to punish you for wanting to better understand."
Once the walnuts were tossed into the bowl with the fruit, he went nosing through the cabinets, wanting something that would elevate the dish he was concocting to out of the ordinary.
"How're the melts coming along? Do you know if we have any honey around here?"
He was so matter of fact and normal seeming that it would have been easy to question the idea that Kekipi and Haumea were the same person.Saint Sergio If you want, we can probably wrap this in another post or two ♥

Rin nodded, looking back to the task at hand and then took a deep, calming breath. She wasn't quite comfortable powering up yet. It... didn't feel right. Not yet. She felt as if she should be expecting pain to follow the transformation. Her body seemed to remember something painful happening. Her skin behind the eye patch throbbed at the memory and she turned around, back to Kip and rubbed it slowly. With a hiss, she adjusted the eye patch and then turned back around to work on the melts after washing her hands. "I.. don't know about the honey," she said after a moment. She was consulting with the video before going back to the melts. Honestly Rin wouldn't talk much more while she fixed the food or ate. She was really quiet most of the time.

Nodding absently, he went to the cupboards and began to search. RIn's silences weren't anything new or even that alarming. At least, not anymore. It was simply the way she was. And really? It suited him. He preferred her silence to someone who never shut up.
"Ah! Here we go!"
Pulling the half-empty jar of clover honey from the cupboard, he carried it back to where he was working and spooned a few generous dollops into a jar and then filled it with spring water and a spring or two of chopped mint. After carefully sealing the jar, he shook it as hard as he could in order to dissolve the honey and mix everything together. And after a few minutes, the homemade syrup was ready.
Opening the jar, he poured the lot into his fruit salad and mixed the whole thing together carefully.
"Well, I'm ready when you are, Rin. How much of this would you like?"

Rin had been enjoying the silence and focused on her melts so much that when Kip talked like that, she jumped and wielded the spatula like she could do some damage to him. And with the look in her eye, she honestly could, probably. Dropping the stance, she hung her head and put a hand over her chest before sighing openly and looking at him, over at what he was doing and then tapped her chest again. "Ugh. Uh.." She shrugged lightly and thought. "Just.. a bit? I don't.." She rubbed over her neck and then looked back to the melts, making sure they didn't burn and shook her head. "You scared me."

Tangerine eyes went wide as Rin spun around and threatened him with the spatula before apparently remembering where she was and who she was with. That had been an unexpected reaction. He heard her sigh and watched her tap her chest a little.
He waited a moment for her to return to her work before slowly and carefully closing the distance between them.
"Easy, little Rin," he murmured soothingly as he reached out to give her head a gentle pat. "I'm sorry I frightened you, even though I'm not entirely sure how I managed it. Relax now, you're safe here, remember? No one is going to hurt you here."

She just looked a bit more flustered and snorted lightly. A deep breath was taken and she nodded. "Sorry. You.. startled me. I don't know why, but.." Vague hand movements happened. "There you go. It happened." She turned back to the melts and flipped them one last time before she called them done. That's when she served them up, silent, moving quietly as she did. Quick and quiet is the way to do things around here. Eating quickly too, so she could get out of the way again. The girl pushed her hair off her shoulder again and then looked at the spread before nodding. "Okay. Here. ..I ..might just take this too my room." Ugh, eating was so awkward in front of people.
