She'd called early in the week, then again earlier that day to make sure nothing had come up. Now, bag in one hand and small box in the other, the ginger haired girl tapped the toe of her shoe against Raven's door.

Since the blonde had found out she was pregnant the time the two friends spent together had reduced by half. There was no longer midnight walks through the park, no patrols together. Navi may have let her responsibilities to her court slip, but she had always tried to make time for her best friend.

If she left, when she left, would they still have that? Would they still be friends, or would Lydia forget about her? Even if she didn't, Lydia wouldn't be a part of that court anymore, she would be someone knew, someone they didn't know.

Just the thought made her throat tight, but she told herself she wasn't going to cry today. Smiling, she waited for her friend to get the door.

Raven had known this was coming. She had expected it, she had tried to prepare for it…but that didn’t mean it was going to be easy to deal with. When Jett had mentioned that Chariklo had been…not part of their court anymore…she knew that Lydia was going to end up doing the same thing eventually.

In a way…she understood, it was so difficult not to be with the one you loved…but on the other hand…she was jealous and upset…losing your best friend was like losing an arm…and it wasn’t something that would just come back. And that was…just an awful feeling.

When the doorbell rang, the blonde sighed heavily and got up, one hand laying on her stomach, making her way to the door. “Coming. I’m coming…”

When the door opened and she saw Lydia standing there, she flashed a quick smile. “I’m here…and so are you, Lyd…come in. Come in…”

Like Raven, Lydia had he own strong feelings regarding this painful split. Originally, when she'd mentioned her intentions to Raven back in the hospital, the other girl had shared her desire. They had talked about it, they'd discussed doing it together, getting an apartment, supporting each other as they rebuilt their lives.

That wasn't going to happen now. Of course Lydia understood, things had changed, her relationship with Jett had changed. She was pregnant, she was happy, Lydia wouldn't dream of taking her away from what made her happy.

But that didn't mean this wouldn't be hard. It didn't mean she wouldn't miss the other girl like she would miss a piece of herself.

"Hey Raven." There was an undeniable somber note coloring the greeting, but Lydia took the invitation as it was offered, slipping past the blonde and into the familiar apartment. The box and the bag were both placed on the coffee table so Lydia could turn to give her friend a tight hug. "How're you doing, sweety? Baby giving you much trouble?"

“The baby’s fine, she likes flopping around, but I think that’s a pretty okay thing, to be honest…I mean, I know I’d rather have her flopping rather than her…well, not.” She shrugged, squeezing the other girl as tightly as she could. “Hey, Lyd? You know that you’re my best friend, right? And I love you with everything I’ve got.”

Raven had to say it. She just had to…she wanted her friend happy…but maybe if she told her that she would miss her if she left…she wouldn’t go…

But damn that was selfish…so…

“I’m guessing you heard about uh…Chariklo, yeah? Is that why you’re here? To say goodbye to me or something…?” The blonde drew away, looking rather sadly at Lydia, hoping that maybe she was wrong. Because…she wouldn’t mind at all if she had been wrong.

“Anyway…can I get you anything…I have water and uh…juice and milk…” Maybe it had been stupid to jump right into the meat of the conversation…maybe she should have made with more small talk first...

Apparently they were going to be diving right into the hard stuff. Lydia tensed, throat going dry and tight as a lump formed there, and she turned to press her brow into the other girl's cheek. "I love you too, I always will. Nothing was ever going to change that. Not distance, not time, not the war.

When they separated Lydia offered the other girl a reassuring smile, hands lowering to rest over the baby bump. She would probably never meet the baby, never get to be a part of their life. It was a little heartbreaking.

She'd blink though, when raven brought up Chariklo. Head snapping in very obvious surprise. For a second she couldn't even respond, there was just too much to digest on too short a time. When she could it came out a lite strangled.

"I-what?" Lydia had not heard about the other senshi, she hadn't has a clue. This visit was because she wanted to, because with as serious as she was about purifying, she wanted to spend as much time with Raven as she could before things changed. "What about Chariklo?"

Hands lowing back to her sides. Lydia's fingers curled into the hem of the loose top she was wearing.

Raven blinked, a frown slowly growing more pronounced on her face. “I uh. I thought you must have heard…Jett told me, because…well he’s the only one of us that can go out and uh…do things but he said she…she wasn’t one of us anymore or something and he was sad and…”

She trailed off, crossing her arms over her chest and going to sit on the couch. All of the sudden she wasn’t feeling that good. “I just…I thought you had heard that and were just…you know…saying bye or something…I’m sorry…”

The blonde closed her eyes, leaning against the back of the couch. This was not what she had meant to do…what if this meant she would be leaving even sooner…that thought just made her want to cry.

There were things she wanted to say, but she kept her mouth shut…it was a struggle though…A real struggle to just start begging for her not to go but…she wasn’t going to be that girl. She wasn’t.

Chariklo purified? The thought bounced around on her heard for almost a solid minute as Raven went to sit on the couch, apologizing. Purified. It was possible. She'd always hoped, always held onto the belief, but with no proof there had been doubts. Now the hope was rising up inside her, pushing away at the fatigue and the fear, every awful fearing that had been weighing on her in the last months.

It wasn't hopeless. She could do it, if she just didn't give up, just kept looking.

But what happiness came with the slip of tongue Lydia kept to herself. Raven looked utterly miserable, and the last thing the ginger wanted was to cause more grief than she already was.

Picking the box she'd brought brought off the table, Lydia sank down to sit beside her friend, should to shoulder. "Raven, I'm always going to love you. I'm always going to be here for you. You just won't see me as much." The lid came off, and Lydia set the box on the blonde's lap.

Inside there was a little photo album filled with pictures of the two of tHem, and tucked into one corner, in its own little box, an silver locket, oval in shape, with two smaller versions of her favorite pictures of them.

"It's not goodbye. I can't say goodbye to you. You mean too much to me."

Raven nodded, wishing she had just known to keep her big mouth shut. It would have been so much easier…honestly the hope and happiness in Lydia’s eyes had made her more miserable than she could have thought possible, but…but it wasn’t just her big mouth that was moving things along way too quickly…no.

As she watched Lydia open the box and take out the pictures she fully realized that even if Chariklo hadn’t purified already…there was going to be nothing stopping Lydia from doing it, if anything…she had just saved her friend from a lot of searching and useless time wasting…

“Of course it’s not goodbye. I love you so much, and I just want you to be happy, and it’s all going to be fine. It’ll be fine.”

The blonde took the silver locket and put it on, looking at the pictures with a sad little smile. “…It’s all going to be fine. And you’re going to be happy, so that’s what really matters, Lyd. That’s what matters.”

If she kept telling herself…maybe at one point that would make it all true.

Lydia frowned as she watched Raven handle the locket. The way she was acting, the way she was talking, sounded very much like the blonde was on the verge of some kind of break, and it hurt to see it. It hurt worst to be a cause of it.

But they'd talked about this! They'd talked about it a lot, they'd made plans. Raven knew what Lydia intended to do, and even if Raven was no longer going to be joining her in this, that didn't mean Lydia had changed her mind as well.

it left the ginger sitting there quietly, hands curling into the soft material of the dress she'd worn, and she didn't know what to say. This was awful. It had gone so much differently in her head, so much better, but it was all falling apart, and she didn't know how to stop it. Worst, it just hurt that Raven was reacting this way. It left the ginger feeling miserable and guilty, and she could feel the burn of tears welling up in her eyes.

"I, uh. I thought we could get some phones. You know, like you did for me and, uh..." Her voice was starting to crack and crumble around the edges.

How could she do this? How could she be this selfish? It was going to hurt so many people.

Raven nodded and flopped sideways, resting against Lydia. “Phones might be nice, we’ll make it through this. It’s not going to be a problem, I’m sure. I’m just way over emotional…hormones, you know…it’s…annoying as hell sometimes. I love you Lydia, and we’re going to figure this out and it’ll be just fine. You’ll be happy and we’ll stay friends. Forever. Seriously.”

She hoped. Even if it didn’t work…she didn’t want to ruin this for Lydia…it wasn’t worth her happiness.

“You get the phones…and when I can power up again, I’ll be sure to call you, it’ll be a little while, so you’ll have to be patient. Not that patience is an issue for you, you’ve waited this long to find a way out…a way to be with your hunk of a guy, so now you have it and you get your happily ever after. I think it’s great…and I’m sorry I’m not coming with you like we planned…but…you know…uh. Babies’ll do that to you, sadly.”

The blond gave a sigh and snuggled a little bit closer, giving a very impressive yawn. “We got this, Lyd. We got this.”

It started Lydia when the other girl suddenly leaned into her, but in a good way. A comforting way that did wonders to hep calm the rising worry that had been growing and growing since she'd found herself on Raven's doormat. An arm automatically came up to loop around her, giving her friend a one armed hug before resting her cheek on blonde curls.

"We can call and text and stay in touch. It won't be that bad." It would hurt like hell, but they could do this. "And you don't have to wait until you can power up, you can text me whenever. Chaonis and I talk all the time, day and night."

She didn't comment on their change of plans, it still stung, still hurt. Not Raven's fault, and she didn't blame the other girl, just circumstances changing.

Instead she nodded, turning to lay a kiss on the top of Raven's hair as she turned to cuddle up against the taller girl. Mindful of her belly, of course. "Of course we've got this. We can handle anything."

Yeah. They could handle anything. Because that’s what best friends did. They handled and they went on with things…even if that meant they wouldn’t really know one another anymore…they’d become friends again, it would just be different.

Things were just going to be different, that was all.

It might have been all…but it was enough to break your heart, that was for sure. “Love you, Lyd.” Raven murmured before just letting everything go and falling asleep right then and there, cuddled against her best friend. Her sister.

Her Lydia.
