Paricherher trotted as she watched a herd of zebras quite a few yards out into the rogue lands, trying to impression at them. Not that they noticed that. They had more or less stopped moving to graze on grass, but Pari was sure that she needed to know how the zebras moved to better characterize them in her art pieces and story tellings. After all, if she had an audience, she would need to move and be animated to engage them, wouldn't she? So Pari trotted.
She trotted back and forth parallel to where the herd had stopped. Pari smiled as she practiced. And froze. There was movement! One of the zebras was moving beyond dipping it's head to eat more grass. Pari stared at the zebra, squinting and focusing on it's legs. All of it's legs. It was moving differently than other zebras she had seen before. Only one hoof was on the ground. ONE HOOF!
Pari gasped in shocked pleasure. One hoof. Now THAT was a trot! And it was the trot Pari wanted to perform for any audience as soon as she figured out what the art and story was behind her zebra trot. Whatever it was it was going to be based off of that one hoof trot, that was for sure!

Jani was patrolling the borders of the pride, as usual, keeping his head low as he moved along the long, drying grass within the rogue lands. He didn't hate being away from home, but he did have an urge to get back home as soon as possible. Perhaps he was just feeling a little lonely after being out for so long. He always started to miss home once he spent long enough away. The trouble of being born inside a pride, perhaps. But it was a trouble he was happy to have. As he drew closer to his home, however, he spotted something rather off. It seemed to be a lioness... prancing around near some zebra. Was she confused? Injured? ... A bit off in the head? Whatever she was, it was certainly confusing for him. Slowly, he moved forward, heading towards the somewhat strange lady. "Um, excuse me? Is... everything alright?"

Pari fell over startled by her previously unknown audience. Audiences, really shouldn't see you practicing, otherwise the story loses a great deal of magic, but Pari was quite unconventional even when dealing with her love of art in EVERY form. So she really didn't mind the lion having caught in mid act - practice act. In fact, she was ecstatic! As soon as she fell over, she bounded back onto her paws and bounced on them excitedly. "Did you just see what that zebra did?" Pari ecclaimed as she beamed at the lion. Surely he had seen it too! ONE HOOF for gods sake! That had to be not only a talented zebra, but a strong one too! Paricherher had helped take down zebras during her hunting shift. To stand on one hoof alone had to be a feat.
"I'm good; I'm good! I'm going to do that though! I'm going to stand on ONE PAW in mid trot. I just wonder where all of the other paws will go ... I mean it looked so neat when the zebra did it, it's got to look pretty amazing when a lion does it, don't you think so?" Pari asked the male.
Pari decided to practice with baby steps first. So she would start with balancing on one paw before she would try the one hoof/paw trot. Pari teetered. Her tongue slipped out of her maw as she tried to keep balanced. "Iiii'mm Pari. Who are yeou?" Pari asked as she focused on her task and teetered while doing it.

Jani frowned, tilting his head slightly to the side as the lioness eagerly asked him about the zebra. He turned his head, looking over at the placid, grazing creatures. "I... suppose I must have missed it. What was it that the creature did?" He didn't see anything interesting over there. All he saw were potential meals to be eaten. "Stand on.... huh?" So she was imitating the zebras, that much was clear, and she didn't seem to be completely insane. A little excited, perhaps, but not insane. "I guess so? I don't watch them walk much, I guess. They're... just food. Why are you looking to walk like one, anyway?" He frowned, looking from the zebra, to her, and back to the zebra again. This was confusing. He watched her balance on one paw, smiling faintly. At least she seemed to be having fun, he supposed. "My name is Jani."

Teeter. Teeter. Pari planted all four of her paws on the ground and looked up at the lion a little dejected. "You missed it? But it was so Amazing! It was the perfect trot to do and really the only trot worth trying!"
Pari rebalanced on her one paw again. "I - was - hunting - last - week or so. And we- took - down - a zebra. But the - way - it moved -" Pari whirled to balance herself, as she teetered too far to the right. At the last moment she planted her other three paws again and continued to explain. "It was so graceful and beautiful, and I thought, well what better way to honor the zebra then to come up with some art form for it? But painting my body the same as it wouldn't do, because really I'm still a lioness and that doesn't matter. I wouldn't be mistaken for a zebra like I could if I camouflaged with the setting sun. And there were no songs that I could think of that really honored the zebra as more than prey and a meal to a happy lion pride. And then I thought -"
Pari stopped to try the one paw stand again, her tongue out as she looked down at her paw holding her up. "And I thought - of a - story. One - about - a zebra - but stories - should - have - some - moving - parts to it." Teeter. Teeter. Waaay to far to the left. Pari moved her tail and as many limbs to the right as she could to remain on one paw. "To - you know - engage - the - aud - ience. Especially - the cubs - and eld- erly. They - love - laughter - and many - need it." Nope. Nope. She was leaning. Leaning over. She was going to fall.
At the last moment Pari gave in and planted her paws again. Instead of falling she stumbled a few steps.
Pari looked up at Jani, smiling and panting, "So I started to study them and practice their movements to better engage the audience."

"I didn't know any trot was worth trying," admitted Jani somewhat absently, once again looking over at the zebra. As far as he could see, they weren't doing much trotting. They weren't doing much of anything, if he was honest. Just standing there and chewing on grass. But he believed her when she said she had seen something interesting. There was really no reason not to. "I see," he hummed, watching her for a moment before smiling. Everything fell into place when she said she was looking to honor it with art. An artist, was it? From what he had seen of them, they could be a little... weird. It definitely explained her behavior, including her willingness to speak to a stranger like him. Was she a member of the pride? He was pretty sure he had seen her before, but he couldn't say for certain. "I see, so you're very into your art, then," he replied warmly, finding nothing wrong with that, "it's good to see someone so dedicated to their craft! I can imagine your show will end up being very interesting once you get everything perfected- it looks like you're putting in a great deal of effort. I wonder how well a lioness can trot like a Zebra. Probably better than a lion could."

Nodding, Pari replanted her feet. Practicing to trot like a zebra was hard work. Harder then a lot of what she had done in a while. But it felt good. "Well, I like to think so. An artist, I mean. Not a lioness being better at trotting. We won't know until you start to practice with me. I'm sure you could do it to and be very good at it!" Pari encouraged, nodding at Jani. That would be fun even if he didn't want to be a part of the show. And Pari was always interested in fun!
"And maybe after we practice standing on our one paws, we can run at the zebras to make them run and eventually slow to a trot when they realize that we're not intending to eat them at the moment."
Pari looked down at her paws and frowned before looking back at Jani in concern. "But I've already practiced on my right forepaw. So I'm kind of ahead of you on that one. Here I'll start to practice on my left forepaw and we'll start together, ok?" It wasn't really a question. Pari switched paws. She raised all of her other paws and tail, stuck her tongue out and balanced between swaying teeterings to either side of her body.

Jani watched her balance, arching an eyebrow. "I appreciate your efforts," he commented thoughtfully, "but don't you think balancing on your paws isn't the way to go about it? I mean, the zebra probably didn't have to do that when they learned to trot, right?" He wasn't much of an artist, but he was a good hunter- he knew how to observe and how to make strategies. Learn new things. It was why he had become a soldier. He could use his talents in battle, to adjust and learn with new fighting styles. "I think it's more about getting the speed and contact points down than being able to balance. If you're distributing your weight correctly, you shouldn't have to worry about how well you balance on any one paw- the fluidity of the motion will carry you through." He frowned at that, aware he was probably being too pushy about his own thoughts on the matter. There was no saying she wouldn't be able to learn to trot doing as she was, he just had a different opinion. He could be a little forceful about speaking his mind, however. "Ah, well, that's just how I think about it, anyway. Nothing to really take to heart if you don't want to."

Pari looked up at Jani, and stopped concentrating on her balancing act. And that's when she fell over, flat on her side. The air escaped in a gasp as she made contact with the hard ground. And wow it was harder than Paricherher expected. Not that she had expected to fall at all, so she guessed that anything was harder than what she had expected. Which was nothing but air. "Aah!" Pari grimaced after hitting the floor. Ow.
She continued to lay there, but allowed herself to think about what Jani had said. That was probably a really good idea. "No I think I should try that. After I get up ..... If I get any time soon." Her side was soar, but when she wiggled it didn't feel like anything was broken. She thought, anyway. Not that she would know she she had never broken a rib before.
"What kind of contact points would a lioness my size would have to have though? My gait is going to be seriously different from a zebras." Pari said, speaking slowly as she breathed through the pain of the fall and the soreness of her aching muscles hurt by the fall.

Jani watched the lioness, though he didn't move to see if she was alright. He was a bit reserved, which made it difficult for him to show emotion sometimes. He was more interested in watching than participating most of the time. Thankfully, she seemed alright. He would have gone for a healer if she needed the help. "You don't have to get up right away. Rest can be good for training, too. Not doing too much at once and all that." He looked over at the zebra again. "Well, you're right about observing them. You can see how they bend their legs and when and where they apply the pressure in their stride. Once you have an understanding of that, you could start with just a normal stride and work up to what they do. Adjust as see more. If you want, I could spook them while you watch. Surprising them without chasing them should make them trot away from me."

"Oh! That would be very nice of you, Jani. But only if you don't mind. I don't want to keep you from whatever business you have or plans you were trying to keep before we met." Paricherher admitted, thinking about how she had all but usurped Jani's time and attention. It had been very rude of her. Fun, but rude. He could have been - or still was on important business. Though she would really like to see the zebra's trot while staying still. She was sure watching them trot while running after them wasn't going to be enough at all.
Pari rolled to lay down on her belly and relax so she could see both the zebras and the lion standing with her. She wanted to be able to hold a conversation AND see anything interesting at the same time.

"Oh, I was just patrolling, you don't have to worry about that." He moved away from the lioness to head over to the zebra. He was pretty sure he was going to be able to startle them at least a couple of times, so she could get a few good views of the zebra trotting. If he took too long with it, or did it too many times, they would catch wise and he imagined they would just move on away from the both of them. For the moment, though, the plan was a good one. He waited in the grass for the right moment, leaping out and running away to get them running, then slowing down into a trot when they were surprised to find they weren't being chased anymore.

"Thank you!" Pari exclaimed sweetly excited. She wiggled into a more comfortable position and prepared to learn and plan out the piece.
Paricherher watched mesmerized by the movement of the zebra. Their legs were beautiful things. She stared at them, smiling as they moved, trying to memorize the muscle's movements, their gait, how the mechanics of their trot worked. The fluidly of their movements were amazing and unappreciated by many, but Pari would solve that. She would honor the prey in a story enacted.
