Nothing could predict such a rainy season. This part of summer normally came with rains. It's good for the growth of the land and crops. However this year, it was unnaturally rainy in these parts. Tonight, the rain fell down in a wet blanket, below eerie glowing clouds. Behind the storm, a full moon played between cracks in the cloud cover.

No flying tonight in this weather. Kayotica stuck to the outskirts of the mountain ridge, because soquili were scarce here. Exactly as she liked it. After the Kalona war had been lost by her herd, her scout days were over. The drama in the aftermath, was too much for her to handle. She lost contact with the two stallions she used to patrol with. They were the only herd members she could tolerate on a normal basis. So when she didn't have them around, and was faced with helping to rebuild a herd in the midst of failure, she wanted no part. Exiling herself had been challenging. Kayotica was no fighter. Dealing with locals of lesser blood, wasn't something that she was prepared for. She would shoot off her mouth, like she had been accustomed to, but this time, had no backup if things turned violent.

So rather than be nice to others, she traveled alone, and avoided contact with soquili. Even meeting a kalona or two, she ended up being equally as annoyed with them. They weren't like her. Uni loving hippies, or breed equality idiots. All of them. Civil, her only companion in life now.

"We should head back to the cave." Civil called out from her roost on Kayotica's back. Hunting for dinner in the rain, had proved endless. The little crow grew tired of having wet feathers. Flying in this mess wasn't possible.

She was right. Kayotica huffed and exhaled in a deep sigh. "Let's go back. Maybe this dreadful rain will clear in the morning."

3 days, it had rained straight. Before that, in spurts. The wind licked to kick rain around from every direction as she walked. Her hair was drenched. Normally, she wouldn't play in the rain, but they were hungry. Cave rats were not enough to live off of. Kayotica wanted real food. Tasty mountain lion, or a deer. If they didn't find large game soon, she would go nuts!

The cave, they had discovered in the low hills around the mountain. Luckily, abandoned and free to use. It was cozy, and not too large. The rocks on the floor, smooth and polished.

Rain had been building up on the ground, and the rocks in the area around her cave, slippery. It had not been a problem, since she could fly. The rain was so heavy though, that she took the path back on foot. How was she to get up there?

Civil looked at her as she pondered the rocky incline. She decided it wouldn't be wise to tell her to fly. Kayotica didn't like being told what to do. She would realize it was a bad idea to make the climb on hoof, on her own. Surely.

Kayotica was stubborn. The first time her hoof slipped, she gave a startled yell. Civil flustered and flapped on her back. "It'll be fine." she said in response. She knew what her friend was thinking. She could do this.

Looking up at her hole, she continued on. "See, we're almost there." she said. Cocky, all too soon. For as she looked back to her crow while talking, her hoof slipped again. This time, the whole hillside came down with her misstep. Civil took flight a few feet off to the cave entrance when Kayotica went down. Boulder and rock clanged together in an earthen rumble, as the rock slide took the purple kalona for a ride. Kayotica fumbled and flapped, but the rock had her by an ankle. In the end, it had her good, pinned to the ground by her front leg.

She yelled out in pain as she reached the bottom. Civil called out to her in a panicked squawk.
"Kayotica!! The bird glided down to the bottom. The oil on her feathers still there to some degree, even though she was soaked to her little hollow bones.

Civil landed next to Kayotica. "Are you okay?! Oh gosh, your leg!!" Civil watched as Kayotica looked at her, then looked at her leg. Kayoticas eyes fluttered and started to roll back. "Don't you pass out on me!" the little bird squawked and hopped from rock to rock, flapping her wings frantically. it was no use. "No, no, no, no!" Civil pleaded, as Kayoticas head went limp on the ground. "Bawk!!" Civil hopped over to Kayotica and tried to wake her, pushing a claw against her face and shaking her. Nothing.

"Ohhhhh!" Civil paced back and forth. The rain, unrelenting. Minutes, felt like hours. Kayotica didn't wake up. Civil pressed her face to the chest of her bonded. Still breathing at least. What could she do though? She tried to push the rock off Kayoticas leg, but that was futile. The rock was easily three times her size.

"Please don't die." she frowned at the mare. "I'm going to have to find someone, but I don't even know where to begin! Oh spirits..." she trailed off, as she gave herself a good shake and took off. Flying in this weather was challenging, and it wouldn't be long, till she wouldn't be able to fly at all. Once the oils washed from her feathers, she would be too wet to fly.

Spirits be with her as she went to find help...
