Name: Det. Nicolas L. Greene - Never even bother asking what the L stands for because he won’t say (it’s Llewellyn - thanks, Dad).
Nickname: Nick, Bud, Perrito (Only his mother can use this one)
Age: 30
Birthday: April 4
Sign: Aries, omg, total Aries
Gemstone: Diamond
Blood Type: O
Fav. Food: Since beer and tequila are not strictly food, we will put this down as his mother’s green chile tamales and his paternal grandmother’s shortbread.
Hated Food: Taco Bell. It galls him to an almost hilarious point that Taco Bell is considered Mexican food.
School: Long since out of school, Nick is a new detective with the Destiny City Police Department. Previous to being transferred/encouraged to move, he served with the Las Vegas Police Department and Phoenix Police Department. Needless to say, being on the East Coast is an adjustment.
Hobbies: Gunplay - Having worked as a police officer for seven-going-on-eight years now and spending many summers of his childhood down in New Mexico at his uncle’s ranch, Nick has no lingering discomfort around guns. While he is not a sniper or trick-shot, he is a reliable and calm shot, more than capable with both his service pistol and a rifle. He spends regular time at the range and, if you want to actually see him hold still, this is the place to find him.
Collecting action figures - Not only does Nick collect action figures but he also plays with them… If by “playing” you mean staging elaborate dioramas on his co-workers’ desks (and his own!). Not for him are those figures meant to represent sports figures, by the way. He is strictly into superhero/soldier/movie tribute figures. He currently has upwards of 100 and his most prized figure is an Indiana Jones with whip-cracking action. Yes, he makes the noise with his tongue when he plays with it.
Poker - Nick is not a particularly methodical player but he has one heck of a lucky streak which keeps poker games from being an exercise in masochism. He wins just as often as he loses and his poker face more resembles a bemused cartoon dog but he enjoys the game for its social aspect more than anything else. He likes the idle chatter that happens when you play with friends and the beer or snacks you get. He also really likes that a hand goes pretty fast and then you move on to the next.
Long and rambling conversations - As much a way of life as a hobby, conversations hold a special importance for Nick. The man can talk the hind legs off a donkey, knows a little about a lot, and is always willing to exchange jokes and information. Having a long conversation with someone is how Nick grounds himself in the world and connects himself to others. He is a master at chain-of-thought and best likes a chat that follows the mutual give and take of equal participants.
Virtues: Adaptability - Nick automatically adjusts for situations and is not one to let an unexpected surprise throw him. By not getting himself in a rut in the first place, he is able to course-correct almost immediately and shift his behavior and thoughts in the new direction. He has been and always will be a creature of gut instinct and this stands him in good stead when it comes to bending with the blowing wind.
Eternal Optimist - Against all other proof, Nick believes with all of his heart that things can and will come out for the best. You just have to look at them the right way and don’t you know the good guys always win? (Just don’t ask him who the good guys are.)
Conversation Master - He learns more by talking to you than by reading your dossier and he is always oh-so-clearly interested in you and this is a hard thing to resist. He will strike up a conversation with everyone from the chief of police right down to a little girl in the toy aisle of Target. As seemingly random as his conversations can get, though, Nick actually has a strange internal logic behind all of his words; just because you can’t follow how he got from aardvarks to zygotes, doesn’t mean he lacks a clear pathway in his own mind. While his casual conversations tend to spiral out organically, he often uses his ability to keep talking and linking ideas to manage a more formal, fact-finding discussion in surprisingly subtle ways. He is, hands-down, the best interrogation expert in his precinct and he can nearly always get you to go where he wants in the end.
Flaws: Impulse control issues - Nick lacks a strong ability (or the common sense, it could be argued) to think before opening his mouth or putting out his hand. He submits to pretty much any whim that goes through his head without considering the consequences and the fact that he reached this age proves the joke about higher powers watching out for idiots and children. He manages somewhat better at work due to the stabilizing force of a partner to check his impulses but this seems to result in even less control when he is off the clock and left to his own devices.
Creative laziness - This is not the classic “I don’t want to get out of bed” laziness. This is the laziness of a pro, of a man willing to go out of his way to hit all errands at once just because he will not leave his apartment once he sets foot inside, of a man who considers activities based on the effort before committing. He is not going to argue with you; there is no point for him. To get Nick going, you have to find the motivation switch and it changes, depending on the day. As a rule, a paycheck, a life with less hassle, food, or fun are good places to start.
Inconstant - While there are a select few that command Nick’s absolute loyalty (Mom, Dad, brother, sister - that’s it), the rest of the world is condemned to take what they get from him. If he says maybe, he means exactly that. He rarely commits because he knows that there is a very good chance he could change his mind tomorrow. 95% of the people in his life experience Nick as a force of nature that flickers through their lives, plays with them, makes them feel special... and moves right on. He does what he likes and avoids what he doesn’t. It is lucky for his bank account that he likes his job and it commands a level of loyalty that is second in line to that which he feels for his family.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION Eyes: Dark golden, bordering on amber. Nick’s eyes are slightly almond-shaped with sparse, pale lashes and dark straight eyebrows above. He has a tendency to squint when outside as if anything brighter than a room-light bothers him. The truth is, actually, he has crazy-good vision and he instinctively squints to focus his attention where it needs to go.
Hair: Overall blond with noticeably golden sun-streaks and noticeably darker brown natural roots. Nick wears it cut short at the back and sides with longer pieces on top that fall into his face unless he applies a bit of styling product. He usually goes too long between haircuts and so ends up a bit shaggier on top than he should be for his line of work. Hilariously, though, he always keeps his sideburns neat and shaped; the same darker brown as his roots, they are slim and stop just short of where his earlobes meet his head.
Face: A fairly handsome man in a slightly off-beat way. Nick has a broad sort of face, slightly square with a very defined and broad jawline and noticeable cheekbones. His mouth is almost-feminine full and mobile, given mostly to smirks but there is an unfortunate tendency for it to look pouty in the neutral position. He tans easily and tends to retain color well, always looking a bit sun-kissed. Given enough sun, his maternal heritage comes to the fore and he goes all honey-caramel. When he is on vacation, he tosses his razor to the back of the medicine cabinet and develops some adorable peach fuzz version of a mustache-goatee combo.
Clothes: Standing at just barely six foot, Nick is not abnormally tall but his frame leans more towards a slight stockiness that lends more force to his appearance. He keeps himself in good shape, very fit and athletic. He is far from being a clothes-horse. While working, he wears the simplest suits he can get his hands on (his happiest days are when he can make do with just khakis and a button-up) and dreads putting on his dress blues. Off the clock, the man is strictly t-shirts and jeans with a few button-ups kept on hand for dressy occasions. Most of his t-shirts have logos on them - bands, movies, games, smart-arse sayings. He is not particular and most of his down-time clothing is pretty ancient and comfy. His body temperature naturally runs high and he normally avoids heavier clothing. He owns not a single scarf or hat or sweater and dons an old ski jacket in only the most ferocious cold.
