Things were going well for Ubasti, not so much for Nailah. Ubasti had met the most wonderful dark mirror eternal senshi who had taught her how to properly take energy. It made her feel even more part of the family and Mintaka had been very nice. Ubasti wanted to be an eternal even more now; she wanted to help the others like Mintaka had done. Perhaps she should have asked the older senshi how it was exactly that one became an eternal. Ubasti took out her phone and began flipping through some of the previous messages and going through her contacts.
There were a few missed calls from her father, Ubasti ignored those. He’d pushed her to find a job and move out from her grandfather’s home. That man made her angry. Why couldn’t he just have stayed in Egypt far away from her? Though he was right, she ought to move out. Hiding her senshi identity was becoming hard, her mom worried every time she saw a new bruise on her daughter. Moving out at least, would give her some piece of mind and she would no longer have anyone to answer to except those that really mattered. Which was those in charge of the dark mirror court.
Sighing, Ubasti swung her legs over the edge. Tonight was boring, she actually wished she’d bump into Merlinite.Lithiasaur I am so sorry this is sucky ;_;

Not knowing he was about to fulfill a wish, General Merlinite crawled his way up the side of a building, using his three clawed appendages for most of the work. His one 'human' foot was not the most useful when he was scaling a sheer wall, but he used it as a counter balance along with his tail, making sure to dig grooves for his foot with his claws so he always had somewhere to put it while propelling himself upwards.
It had taken a lot of practice, but he was getting used to moving as a half dragon. His big wing no longer upset his balance quite so much, and he was learning how to effectively use his tail for balance as well as for fighting. It was like having another arm, and it was fascinating to see just how useful it could be.
He was working on making its movements more deft, so he could even pick things up with it.
He was lost in his thoughts as he scrambled over the edge of the roof and perched on top of the railing, but he soon noticed the aura and then the source of it. Grinning, he followed the rail, walking on all fours toward where she was sitting.
This was going to be interesting...
"What's got you looking so bored?" he tried, though he was nervous without really noticing it. His voice was softer than he wanted, and lacked the joking sharpness he had been going for.

The sudden voice that cut through her thoughts was a familiar one, one that she had actually just been thinking about. Smiling, Ubasti turned to look at Merlinite. Only her eyes she landed on him, her expression changed to shock. That was not Merlinite, or at least that wasn’t the Merlinite Ubasti remembered. Nor was it what a knight looked like, which meant that something had gone horribly wrong somewhere between their last meeting and this one. Yet, it sounded like Merlinite. He seemed half youma, but how could that be? She’d never seen anyone else or anything else that looked half youma and half human.
“Merlinite?” Now she was confused, Ubasti didn’t know how to react. She pulled herself up and away from the ledge, unsure if she could trust this, or whoever this was. “Are you dressed up for a party or something?” This had to be a joke, maybe he was about to reveal that as a civilian he worked in special effects and this was all just part of some sort of project. And yet, Ubasti could feel the difference in him even if she didn’t want to believe it. However, anger seemed to be the first emotion to gear her into motion.
“This is a joke right?” Ubasti advanced closer, trying to figure out what in the world she was seeing. “What happened?” Still concern crept into her voice even if she was angry.

"Yeah... that's me. I had some work done. You like it?"
He grinned at her, because at this point there was little else he could do. He had fangs now, which made his grin look a lot different than it used to, when he was just a cocky guy showing off and running his mouth a lot.
Drooping a bit, crouching and resting his arms on his knees, looking up at Ubasti, he sighed and got a bit more serious.
"Not a joke, I can promise you that. I had some... trouble changing side. This Negaverse General, Painite, she didn't want me to change sides so she corrupted me into a General. And... a bit beyond that. Too much chaos in a starseed makes a youma. Or, in my case, something close to it."
Sadness crept into his tone despite his best effort. His eyes did not meet hers, and he instead stared at the ground between them. No matter how many times he told the story, it did not get any better or easier. And it certainly was not more fun.

He had some work done? Were those fangs?! Ubasti stared at his teeth, eyes growing a little wide. He wasn’t even… Human anymore. He had horns and scales and a tail for crying out loud. Ubasti rubbed her face, still not sure on how to react to this new Merlinite. Did she even call him Merlinite anymore? She hoped he hadn’t accepted to get this done to him. She’d always thought the Negaverse were creeps but now she thought they were just plain evil. As evil as one could get in fact. Other Dark Mirror court senshi’s could have an alliance with them, but she was crossing them off that list.
Seeing him talk about what happened did make Ubasti feel bad, and she dropped down to crouch and placed her hand on his shoulder.
“What happened?” And as if it wasn’t clear, she added. “In detail.” Hadn’t he said something about this General Painite before the last time they’d met? Yes he had, Ubasti was going to have to look into that. He wasn’t a full youma, so that was good. Maybe there was a way to purify him, there had to be. Though, now the question was whether or not he wanted to be purified. Ubasti wished she could have helped him become a knight, maybe hide him away from this Painite until the time came to purify him. She really didn’t know, but she really wished she could have helped.
“There was to be a way to fix this, have you tried looking into it?”

"Uh..."
Detail. He was always trying to avoid the details, but if anyone deserved to know the whole story, it was Ubasti. She had been his friend despite everything, and he did not want her to think that now that he was... this... he wanted her to treat him any differently. He certainly wouldn't abandon her, as long as she would let him be her friend.
"Painite realized I was going to purify. Well, I told her, because she was going to kill someone I cared about. I thought she would follow me, she seemed so broken and upset... but she was just... her unstable self. Instead, she decided she wanted to 'keep' me. She corrupted me, and made me a General. I'm not sure if that was what she wanted, or if she knew what she was doing with all the chaos she was putting into my starseed... but it went too far. I turned into... well. This. Half dragon guy. I mostly go by Dennis now, to be honest, but Dennis is gone. I can't power down any more. I don't have a civilian life. This is all I am."
He looked sad, swishing his tail behind him, though it drooped and dragged on the ground with the slow motion.
"I still want to purify. I don't know if I can. I've teamed up with Camelot, the Royal Knight, and he says he'll do what he can to help me. It's... a start. But even he doesn't know if it's possible. But even so... I've quit the Negaverse. I don't work for them any more. I try to just... hide and help senshi when I can."

“How did she know you were going to purify before you told her?” If she’d threatened someone he loved, did that mean that she had known before and had wanted to hear it from Merlinite himself? That was just plain twisted. Painite sounded more and more crazy and Ubasti was really starting to doubt as to why the dark mirror had an alliance with the negaverse. If some of their generals were this crazy, she didn’t even want to meet a single one of them. Nor could she work with them, not after this anyway. She didn’t think she’d be able to follow orders if she was asked to do so.
Dennis… Ubasti blinked a few times, had that been his civilian identity? And now he’d been stripped of even that. She felt so sorry for him and didn’t know how to express it. “Should I call you Dennis?” She didn’t know if she should or shouldn’t, he wasn’t really Dennis anymore as he’d said, but he wasn’t Merlinite either. It felt weird knowing his old civilian name, she only knew powered by their powered names and had never revealed herself to anyone either. Didn’t know if she was supposed to, though she saw it as something dangerous and not to be taken lightly.
“Camelot…” A royal knight was something powerful if she remembered correctly; it was probably his best bet. “I hope he can help you.” She didn’t like seeing him like this, felt like the negaverse had consumed him and spite him right back out. “If you need anything, any help I don’t mind helping you. I’m moving out from my family’s home soon and I can always hide you.” Maybe this would be a good thing to get a bigger place, hide powered people in her apartment or something. She needed to make herself useful.

Merlinite frowned and shook his head.
"She didn't know. She just... found my friend. I don't think she knew that senshi had anything to do with anything. But I met her because Painite was badly hurt when I found her... and this senshi knew how to use some healing magic. Without her, I'm sure Painite would have died. That senshi doesn't know she was healing Painite, though, and it's all... very complicated. Uh. But Painite was just doing her usual thing when she runs into Senshi, I guess, and I couldn't... let her hurt anyone else. I'd already let her hurt so many people. So I stepped in... I told her what that senshi did for her. It made Painite break down, because she hates Senshi so much and thinking one saved her was, I guess, a lot to take in. So I thought maybe... maybe she would listen if I told her about purifying."
It had not gone all that well, as was clear from his present appearance. He kept his friend's identity a secret, just as he had kept Painite's a secret when she was in need of healing. Since she was so badly injured, she had been powered down, anyway, so glamour also went a long way in protecting her.
"Uh. But yeah. Dennis is better than Merlinite, I think. Does it sound stupid? I've been trying it out a bit. Camelot seems to think it's okay. So. I guess I'm just a youma named Dennis." He laughed at that, and it did not seem as rueful as it should have been. He had to deal with what was given to him, and was slowly learning how.
He did smile at her offer for help, nodding his head.
"I've got a place right now and I think I'm pretty settled but... I mean. I do appreciate you sticking around, and being my friend and all. I know this isn't... how things were supposed to turn out. But I can still help, and I can patrol and do all the normal things. I just don't work for Chaos anymore."

This Painite sounded all kinds of crazy. How could she hurt someone that had saved her?
“Are all generals like that?” Ubasti found herself asking as her expression began to frown. The whole thing sounded complicated like Merlinite had said and it made her wonder what kind of weird web he’d gotten himself into. Still, she didn’t think Merlinite should have told her. Painite already sounded unstable enough; there would have been no way she would have every accepted Merlinite going to the other side so to speak. However, she didn’t know Painite as Merlinite did so maybe he had seen something she did not.
“Don’t be silly,” Ubasti gave Merlinite a pat on the shoulder and stood up to uncramp her legs. “Dennis sounds perfectly fine; it was your name anyways.” It was a little weird calling him by his non powered name. “Does it feel weird using Dennis instead of Merlinite?” If he was always stuck in this youma form it also meant he couldn’t just walk around in the daylight, stuck forever in the darkness of the night. Painite had pretty much destroyed his whole life and for what? That Ubasti still didn’t know didn’t care.
It was a shitty thing to do but looked like something the negaverse took lightly. In her eyes anyway.
“Good good,” She was happy to hear he was doing okay. “I mean we couldn’t be friends if you wanted to eat my face off,” she gave him a joking stare. “But you know, you’re still the same Merlinite who beat me up the first time we met.” She laughed. “Well, hopefully this Camelot guy can help you out and reverse what Painite did. And seriously, do not hesitate to call me up if you need anything.” Then after a small pause. “Do you want my number in case you need anything?”

"A lot of them can be, I guess," Merlinite said thoughtfully, shaking his head. He knew he was a general now, technically, but his corruption was forced on him, and he did not delight in the power he now had. Painite had grown into her position with delight, and took a lot of pride in how strong and wicked she was. She welcomed the Chaos in her heart.
He imagined that was how it was supposed to be, and a lot of the higher ranking officers in the Negaverse were likely the same.
When she pat him on the shoulder, Merlinite stretched his wing out a bit, watching her thoughtfully. His wing sometimes did whatever it wanted, though he was learning how to control it like he did any of his other limbs. And his tail was sort of the same. They were useful, in their way, but he had to adjust to having them.
"Dennis doesn't really exist any more. I mean. I can't power down or anything, so. It kind of just makes me feel a little more human when... you know. I'm not. That sounds silly, I guess." He sighed, rolling his eyes at himself. "But yeah, if you want to give me your number, that'd be fine. Oh, and hey, if you want a patrol partner or anything, any kind of help, I'm still doing that kind of thing, you know? I'm just... not really a Nega soldier any more. Freelance monster, basically." He gave her a toothy grin.

No wonder Senshi fought so hard against negaverse agents, they knew how insane they were. How completely off the deep end a general could be. For once, Ubasti found herself siding a little closer to the Senshi than she wanted to admit. Mintaka, while an older dark mirror, had been biased in her opinion of the negaverse. You couldn’t see the bad in someone when you loved them. Ubasti did not love a single one of those bastards and she could see it as clear as day. When she became a mentor, she would not let a single one of the younger generations ever befriend a negaverse agent for fear of being backstabbed right in the heart.
“Oh course,” snapping out of her dark thoughts, Ubasti verbally gave him her number. There was a lot going on and Ubasti wanted to process it all. Usually she would have wanted to spend more time with Merlinite. She still did, him being a youma didn’t change that, but her mind was working on this whole thing and she just wanted some time to think by herself.
“I will definitely hit you up whenever I can,” she paused briefly. “And if you ever need anything, seriously, give me a call okay? Don’t be a stranger, let me know if you find out anything new from this Camelot guy.” Another short pause. “I gotta go. But we’ll be seeing each other.” Pulling him in Ubasti gave him a quick tight hug before releasing him at arm’s length. There just had to be something that could be done. “See you!” Uabsti turned and jumped towards the next roof before taking off. She needed to get more powerful, she just wasn’t sure how.Lithiasaur I got lazy with her phone number XP

Merlinite nodded his head, swinging his tail behind him thoughtfully. It often did whatever it wanted, reacting to his emotions more than he would have liked. He could control it directly, of course, but it was not like his arms and legs, which behaved when he was not thinking about them.
He was surprised when she hugged him, but he returned it before she pulled away. His wing even got in on it, folding forward over her shoulder before he coiled it back to rest against his shoulder again. He smiled at her, nodding his head.
"I'll see you again soon."
He watched her go, hoping she was as okay as she said she was. It was clear to him that he had some kind of impact on her, but she had not said as much. Maybe she would not want to see him again, and his being a youma really was a problem, she just didn't want to say so...
No, he could not just be a paranoid sad sack all the time. If she said she wanted to be friends, then she was telling the truth, and something else was on her mind that made her look so unsure.
Right?
