The small mare trotted alongside a babbling river happily, eyes taking in the scenery that accompanied it. She had found just the perfect location; trees were scattered about the riverside and looking further down, she could see them thicken into a forest. The grass was a healthy green – a nice snack later, when she would get hungry. Being alongside the river, the ground was soft; her hooves bit into the soft, moist ground, sinking down half an inch and leaving a small print trail. The breeze was gentle, and the sun seemed to radiate the perfect amount of heat. Overall, the day felt fair and pleasant. Today is the perfect day to be alive! she thought to herself, a smiling inching on her face.

Coming to a stop, she leaned over to look into the river, inspecting her reflection. The pink mare stared at the mirror image, who scrutinized her just as much; light blue eyes glared beneath a large pink curl. She kept the stern expression up for only a little longer before relaxing her features, her face softening into a perpetual smile. "Why so serious?" she joked to herself. Just as she started to back away from the image, she heard a small plip-plop and a small droplet of water touch the surface of the river.

Plip, plip, plip.

Without a warning, it was if the sky decided to mock Jiggly Puff. What was once a clear day became dreary; the sky darkened and filled with clouds. The rain beat down heavily. As the rain fell, a humidity filled the air, lingering in the air like a blanket. Caught off guard by the abrupt change, Jiggly Puff looked around for somewhere to escape the weather, and saw the thicket of oak trees nearby. She moved towards it, her hooves sinking into the now saturated ground. Mud flung out with every step, dirtying up her legs. She reached the oak trees, and while she was now protected from the worst of the weather, she was still wet, cold, and was now more brown than pink.

Jiggly Puff gazed up towards the sky; she could see the dark clouds weaving themselves tighter together as they drained themselves of their watery contents. This gloomy weather was such a downer to her chipper attitude; she could feel it drain her mentally. Finding refuge under a small half-fallen over tree, she took the change to rest herself, tucking her mud covered legs under the rest of her body. "Note to self: wash off as soon as possible!" she mused to herself, enjoying the small comfort the makeshift shelter provided her. Though the weather was horrible, she wouldn’t let this affect her! She watched the rainfall, hoping for it to end soon.

It was still early morning; dew still coated the grass and plants and the sun was shyly peeking out. Tiger Nilla, despite getting a nice night’s rest, was still feeling groggy and tired. If only the sun could go away for a little longer, he thought to himself as he stretched his leg muscles. He slipped through the familiar oak forest he inhabited, searching for a certain fallen oak he enjoyed napping in.

He weaved his body through the trees – he acted without thought, his muscles used to this. Finding it, he awkwardly clambered over the splintery edges. He mentally thanked the higher forces for making him small and the tree trunk wide enough to make him a comfortable but snug fit in it. Nestling in the trunk of a large hollowed out oak tree, Tiger Nilla had decided this was the perfect time to take a nap; the weather was very nice and refreshing and the sun made the area perfectly warm. In addition, the area was remote enough that it rarely attracted any sort of visitors. And as long as no one looked closed enough, they wouldn’t seem him snoozing. Pressing his head against the tree, he let his eyes slowly slip closed and his mind drift off…

Plip, plip, plip.

Tiger Nilla was awoken with a startle; he was drenched completely with rainfall - his mane clung to his face, soaked with water. "What the…?" he mumbled to himself, awkwardly forcing himself to stand up. "Where’d all this rain come from..?" he questioned, climbing out the trunk carefully. He wasn’t sure what the time was, but he couldn’t have been asleep for that long, and the weather didn’t look like it was so bad before he had decided to pass out. He frowned, turning his head to look around for a dry place. He felt miserable all of a sudden. The stallion didn’t particularly enjoy being wet – it made him feel unnecessarily cold, which in turn made it difficult to relax and get comfortable.

Looking off to his right, he recalled seeing a fallen oak. Maybe there’s enough space under it for me to curl up in to avoid the rain, he thought to himself as he moved towards the vicinity. As he got closer, however, his eyes caught sight of something pink. "What is that?" he grunted, getting closer to the pink mare. Just as he reached the fallen oak, he could it out: a solid pink usdia – well, he assumed she was solid pink, though currently she was half covered in mud and shivering much like he was. Greeeeaaat, he thought to himself. He was not in the mood to talk to anyone, and low and behold, he ran into someone. Maybe he would get lucky and she wouldn’t want to talk to him either.

Jiggly Puff stared straight ahead, watching the rain pour. It seemed relentless – mercilessly attacking the ground. If it kept up at this rate, she imagined it would start to flood, which would mean she would have to search for higher ground. She groaned very gently at the idea, not enjoying the idea of getting wet again for the sake of, well, not getting wet. That was such twisted logic. The animated little pony huffed, puffing her cheeks in frustration.

As soon as she started to make her fit, however, she could see something in the distance. An orange blob that, as it got closer, she could better make out: a pony, orange and crème, with slightly darker orange stripes going along his coat. He seemed displeased. Not a fan of the weather? she thought. The pink mare could see him approaching warily – she couldn’t help but smile at the sight. Company! Today couldn’t be so bad after all – while it was pouring rain and she was filthy from head to hoof, she would have a companion through it all. And as they say, misery loves company – though she would be determined to not let the downpour put a damper in the hopefully cheery mood that would be brought by this fellow mini.

"Heeellloooo!" she practically cried out to him. He seemed to want to shrink away when she said that – perhaps he was a little shy? She giggled slightly. "Look, look! Over here, there’s space for you here, if you don’t want to get wet!" she wiggled her body a little, moving against where the tree had broken off, making some more space for the male.

His ear twitched as the female bellowed out to him. Greeeat, he thought, gritting his teeth. This was going to be some big ordeal, wasn’t it? She was going to ask him his name, if he was around from here, how much he hated this weather… Just pointless talk. And then they would, more than likely, never see each other again after this. For what purpose? He could feel his irritation growing. He didn’t want this! He should just turn around and go now. But… he did want to be dry, though. Because being wet would make his day be equally as worse as being forced to socialize with this femme. Might as well just get this over with, he thought. He settled to go towards her and endure whatever she would throw at him with polite, civil, but short responses. Doing that would, more than likely, give her the message that he was not interested in chit chat. Seeing her wriggle to make room for him, he made a slight nod and ducked into the offered room, grunting out a "thanks" to her.

He could feel her bright blue eyes staring at him. He huffed and turned his head to the side, looking straight at her. She seemed innocent and excited. Bleeeh! He hated that. The obnoxious, happy-go-lucky attitude… The nothing could ever be wrong! outlook. This was a bad idea, he could tell. He huffed, and while maintaining a vicious glare, he said rather vehemently, "What do you want?"

Jiggly Puff’s ears lowered at his hostility. He did not seem nice or friendly at all – hopefully it was due to the weather! Or maybe it was because he was having a bad day. She tried to make some form of excuse for the male, sympathizing him for the made up excuses she made in his stead. She just could not imagine someone being permanently surly. Hearing him snap, she said, "Oh, uh, sorry! I was just looking at you. Curious and all. I hope that’s okay with you, uh, mister…?" she trailed off, leaving it hanging for him to input his name. Which, he didn’t seem to want to. He just kept glaring at her. Okay. Great.

Well! This was not going as well as she thought it would. She looked away, somewhat embarrassed by the clear fundamental differences between the two’s personalities that had become apparent within the first five minutes of meeting. He was too much of a foil to her; she was cheery and happy, eager to meet someone and having a form of companionship in this dreary weather, yet he seemed more occupied with being a loner- staying to himself, avoiding conversation, and being an overall downer. She harrumphed, eyes watching the rain pour down, extra attentive to the run off that dropped from the edge of the makeshift shelter she was under. Jiggly Puff puffed her cheeks once more. Well, two could play at this game! If he was going to have a big attitude about this, she could too.

He rolled his eyes at the fit the mare was throwing. She was extremely immature. It made him wonder what was her problem - was she was very young or just a cry baby? Probably a cry baby; age and maturity did not necessarily correlate, after all. Probably used to getting exactly what she wants and everyone liking her. Someone’s definitely a little brat that’s used to rainbows and sunshine, he noted to himself. He shifted slightly, attempting to put a couple more inches of space between the two of them. It forced part of his side to stick out, soaking his body immediately. So much for not being wet. He sighed, feeling increasingly agitated.

Taking a deep breath, he reminded himself that the rain would end soon, as well as the time spent with this mare. And then he would more than likely never see her again, which would be just fine with him. “Whatever, I don’t care. I just want the rain to be over,” he mentioned, his tone rather dull and devoid of emotion. Looking forward, he watched the rain droplets pour down with half-lidded eyes, letting the steady rain lull him into a rhythm; spacing out so that the time would be able to go faster, Tiger Nilla attempted to ignore the pink pony though he could not help but throw side glances every now and then. She, who despite throwing a big huff about his attitude, was now doing the same thing as him – her brows were furrowed with frustration and her cheeks were puffed out – which looked very strange to the stallion.

Time seemed to fast forward after a while; Hours had passed and the two had been sitting quietly. There were no words said between them, and though Jiggly Puff was initially groggy about the situation, she had cheered up now. The mare had, like normal, let her fit subside and calmed down, forgetting the incident and instead enjoying the private show of rain droplets with the stallion, whether or not he was aware of it. Feeling more comfortable now, she let a gentle smile slip across her features. As the last of the rain dripped down and all that remained was its aftermath, the femme let out an audible squeal like sound, excited that it was over. They had been sitting in a silence like this for what seemed half the day after all, and while Jiggly Puff realized she didn’t really mind, she was not one to be contained: she wanted to canter around and roll in the grass and giggle at the top of her lungs and what have you.

Jiggly Puff, eager to stretch her limbs, stood up, smiling wider. She tested her hooves on the ground and felt them sink slightly into the mud; it was drenched with water and slightly flooded from the consistent precipitation. “Aren’t you glad it’s over?” she asked the stallion in a sing-songy tone. She could see him scowl at her and she shrugged. “You can’t be Mr. Grouchy forever, you know. You could at least tell me your name! I’m Jiggly Puff.”

The stallion, who had lulled himself into a half asleep state, flinched at the mare’s sudden outburst. Opening his sleepy eyes, he looked ahead of the makeshift shelter, where he could see patches of sunlight weaving through the trees, indicating the end of the bad weather. While he generally enjoyed rain, it would be a lie in this instance to say that he was not relieved the rain was over – after all, it meant the femme would finally grow bored of him and hopefully leave him alone soon. But, she did manage to shut up while it did rain, which was pleasant in itself; it gave him the chance to relax and close his eyes, and he even dozed off for a while at some point.

At her questioning, the stallion glanced at her curiously and snorted. “I guess.” He paused dramatically when she deemed him a nickname and flicked his tail in slight irritation. “Mr. Grouchy? Is that some kind of nickname? What are you like, a baby or something?” he replied, watching her stretch her limbs and test the ground. Maybe she was checking to see if she could leave him alone? He could only hope so… He snorted and stood up himself. “If I tell you my name, will you maybe leave me alone or something?” he grunted, glaring at her. Probably not, he thought to himself, already regretting the offer. He just wanted to be alone and away from this mare already; if only there was a sure fire way to send her off.

Jiggly Puff smiled at his… attempt at being… sociable? Friendly? Whatever it was, the mare didn’t mind and indeed welcomed it. “Yeah! Promise. ‘Cause if I can get anything out of you, then I did a job well done! Which means that you can—Well, I’ll stop myself there. Your name!” she rambled, giggling. She figured that while he said to leave him alone, he never said when, so she could get away with bugging him for a little longer. Besides, maybe if she tugged him along for long enough, he would lighten up and stop being so uptight.

The male seemed to hesitate but finally gave in. With a big heave, he glared at the ground shyly. “It’s, uh. Tiger Nilla,” he muttered, refusing to look up.

Jiggly Puff didn’t move or budge at his words – she didn’t want to leave now that she had pried something out of him. Instead she playfully butted his shoulder with her head and poked his side with her elbow and said, “Okay, Tiger, now that we got that out the way, there’s still a few more hours until it’s night! Let’s like… I don’t know, go watch the sun set somewhere or something. It’ll be fun. Come ooooon.”

He frowned, seeing her persistence to keep hanging out with him an annoyance. Did she not understand that he did not want her company? How could she not get in her head that he did not really like her – he wanted to be alone, where he could laze about and sleep like he had planned to do earlier. “I thought you were going to leave me alone now,” he huffed, not bothering to hide the growing irritation in his tone.

“After this, I promise. Super promise. Pleeeease!” she responded, looking at him with some sort of pitiful desperation in her eyes.

It just….made him feel bad, like he had to do it. “Fine. But this is it. You leave me alone after today and that’s it,” he muttered angrily. Tiger Nilla wanted to reprimand himself for agreeing to it. Maybe I can shake her off, he thought to himself like following her behind begrudgingly. While her steps her light and giddy, he stomped behind, digging his hooves in the mud and getting himself dirtier than before. Just do this one thing and take off. Or tell her that something important came up. Just something. Need to shake her off somehow…

Jiggly Puff was practically skipping ahead, giddy she managed to convince the stallion to partake in her activities for a little long. She led Tiger Nilla to a small clearing – a clear foil from the dense forest filled with thick trunked trees that they were previously in. It was a favorite spot of hers; while lacking trees, it made up with different variety of flora. It made the area buzzing with activity from bees, hummingbirds, and occasionally flutters. The area led to a large lake that stretched out as far as the eye could see. Pointing the area out, Jiggly Puff motioned the stallion over and took a seat on the edge of the lake, looking up at the sky.

The sun was already setting; while the clouds were still foreboding looking from the earlier rainfall, the sun was giving off its last rays of sunshine, causing the sky to be filled with bright pinks and purples. Jiggly Puff sighed blissfully, happy with the scene unfolding before her eyes. These were the moments you cherished – the way nature seemed to be forgetful of its violent fits; how the sky could seem to overlook how only an hour ago it was dark and depressing and instead fall back into its routine of warmth and solitude. The small femme looked over to Tiger Nilla, who was still standing relatively still a little ways off. “Are you going to join me?” she chirped at him before turning her attention back at the sky.

The stallion stood rigidly. Was this really happening? Did he really follow this annoying mare all the way to here? What about his plan of ditching her? Tiger Nilla huffed under his breath. I’m getting weak, aren’t I? But I could… always leave now, right? he questioned to himself. He could not find a compelling reason to leave, however, and as strange as it was, he felt alright at this point with spending just a little more time with her. He slowly approached the mare, taking a seat next to Jiggly Puff, awkwardly looking forward in a poor attempt to avoid eye contact. She didn’t seem to mind or acknowledge this; the mare was staring intently at the sky above him in a strange silence that he had already learned to not associate with her.

Curious about what piqued her interest so much, Tiger looked up to and found himself intrigued by the sky’s warm colors. It was not a sight he had the pleasure of witnessing so often. He was used to napping around this time – that was when his lethargy usually kicked in and demanded some shut eye. But this… this was actually kind of nice. He glanced over at the mare and gruffly mumbled, “It’s. Kind of nice. Uh… thanks for bringing me here. I guess.” He quietly debated his words and feeling embarrassed immediately, grunted, “I didn’t actually say that last part though. The sky is kind of nice. Looks like a work of art and stuff. That’s all.”
PostPosted: Fri Sep 04, 2015 7:28 am

Jiggly Puff giggled at his small ramble. “Uh huh. Suuuure, Tiger,” she replied. The mare looked at him; the movement of her head caused him to look back at her and she smiled before redirecting her attention to the sky again. “It’s pretty. I like to come here and just watch the sky every now and then. Especially at sunset, sometimes watch it rise, if I’m up that early,” she said. She wasn’t sure if he was paying attention or even cared but she didn’t mind either way. “I just enjoy the company,” she added in.

“I guess I could see why,” he muttered back, trying to keep up the gruff tone. He could see her smile in the corner of his eye. The stallion huffed once more, not too keen on having any more conversation in fear he’d embarrass himself.

They had sat in peace for a while; the sun had finally left, allowing the sky to darken into night. At some point, the duo had alternated from sitting down to laying. Tuckered out, Jiggly Puff had rested her head against the stallion and drifted to sleep, unaware of what she was doing.

Tiger Nilla had freezed when she first rested her head against him; he was uncomfortable and stiff at the motion, unaware how to handle it initially. When Jiggly Puff’s breath seemed to slow readily and make soft snoring sounds as she fell into a slumber, he instead simply accepted it and rested his head on top of hers, telling himself that he would get up and leave in a few minutes after he rested his eyes. He instead dozed off, sleeping peacefully next to the mare.
