Umber's research reached an impasse - the book knowledge imparted to him enlightened him of conditioning experiments, thresholds for development, and unique pathological disturbances born of personal experiences. But what use were these topics without a basic understanding for the mind and its initial motivations? Ochre himself provided little to that regard - unsurprisingly, his brother fostered little interest in opening up to him. Appeals to logos and pathos produced no results. His own mind was only of so much merit when he would be dealing in other individuals.

He needed more data.

The thought of willingly confronting others on their motivations proved a precarious one, as any ask to such a direct extent smacked of treachery or ulterior motives. Neither would be entirely inaccurate assumptions, either. Trades could be made - an armistice avowed for a span pending information provided, but what could he promise beyond that? The profusion of questions concerning how he might move forward in his mission left him flustered, caged in, and exhausted.

On basic encounters, Umber considered a few methods - stationary waits when one's signature projected over a radius merited some trust. Hvergelmir often used this method with her guaranteed availability at North End park for three days of the week. He needn't operate on such a strict schedule, but making himself known at one location would allow others to approach at their discretion. The promise of battle always lingered in instances like these, but making a point of interaction outweighed the potential hazards.

And afterward? Perhaps it would be better to take this slowly.

Umber chose the location of the University courtyard, where he stood among a surfeit of buildings that towered over the grassy expanse. Anyone crowning their parapets could view him easily, which left him at a strict disadvantage in an altercation. He sat atop one of the wooden tables, feet planted on the seat of a chair, and balanced reading a pair of newspaper articles against maintaining awareness of ambient auric energies.

So much of this felt like a bad idea - like a freight train rocking on the rails.
