Pat was checking his gear at work when the call came in, 'Gas explosion at Grisholm Academy'. all available stations were requested since there were reports of mass casualties. Luckily there were no reports of fire however there appeared to be a Carbon Monoxide leak that was the cause of some of the casualties. He grabbed the necessary gear and off they went. With the lights and siren blaring the fire truck and ambulance flew through the city streets. As Pat held on to keep from being flung around the cab he tried to remember what was being held at the hall that weekend. He remembered it was some big concert but since he was working he didn't pay nearly enough attention to the event poster. "It's the Luna Bay concert," one of his buddies shouted to be heard over the sound of the siren.

"What?" Pat was sure he had misheard him. It wasn't any band he had heard off.

"Luna Bay. It's the Luna Bay concert." The other EMT looked at Pat and realized that the redhead had never heard of the group. He chuckled, "Geeze Lucky. One would think you would have heard about the hottest band of the season."

Before Pat could open his mouth to shoot a comment back a voice shouted from the driver's section, "Shut up you two." Pat could feel the vehicle weave and slow down as it came to a blocked area. It will take all the drivers concentration to get them through it safely. Leaning towards his friend Pat shouted quietly, "how bad?"

"Bad enough man. Bad enough."

Pat sat back with trepidation. Tonight looked like it wasn't going to end well. He could only hope he was wrong.

After leaving the man with the wing thingies, Oort had looked for a place to de-superhero before settling on a place that was kind of a little bit under the stage.

No one appeared to notice as he crawled in as Oort and then back out as Briar and with the de-superhero-ing part taken care off, Briar had set out to once again look for his brother.

It had taken a lot of face-peering and skirting around bits of stone from where the ceiling had fallen down and his cuts from where the petals thing that the monster had sent at them had hit him was stinging something fierce, but Briar continued to determinedly walk around until eventually he was rewarded - one of the people on the ground turning out to be his big brother.

He peered down at him worriedly from beneath his glasses before sitting down beside him and reaching out with a arm covered with cuts to try and shake him.

It wasn't a big shake - just a small one - but it didn't do anything his brother still lying there, blood in his hair from a cut.

Briar didn't know what to do. He knew his brother needed help, but he didn't know how to help him and he didn't want to just leave him either.

Once Pat's group reached the Academy the tall redhead could see dozens of other emergency personnel there. A temporary triage station was set up where minor injuries were being looked at while a few ambulances rolled out with their lights flashing, carrying the more life threatening injured to the hospital.

They got a short run down as to what was going on before they entered the fray. Apparently the building is still full of people still being pulled out but the carbon monoxide has apparently disappeared so it was safe to enter without additional gear. With that info Pat and his cohorts headed into the building, splitting up to search for victims. It didn't take Pat long before he found one... Or to be more accurate, two.

A young man was with a older guy who was on the ground. Pat approached, "I'm Pat and I'm here to help." He came up and knelt next to the guy on the ground, visually checking his form for major external injuries while searching for a pulse by checking his wrist. He silently eyed the bright haired boy in front of him for the same type of injuries. At least the kid was standing and appeared coherent, though it would take more than just standing there to prove he was ok.

Briar turned round and looked up at the sound of the other's voice, his reddish eyes anxious beneath his glasses as he watched as the older man knelt by his brother.

He continued watching in silence for a moment as the other started to check his brother over, uncaring of his own scratches that he had gotten courtesy of the monster, however eventually he couldn't help but blurt out "My brother. Is my brother going to be okay?!"

brother is just a civi right? no major damage? and briar is ok too other than the visible issues?

Pat breathed a quiet sigh of relief when he caught a steady heartbeat, barring any major internal issues looked like this fella was just knocked out. He did a quick checked on the pupils with a small flashlight and they reacted normally so there wasn't immediate brain damage. He saw a few minor cuts and bruises but they were expected. Still Pat wasn't going to risk further possible damage by moving him. He wrapped a neck brace around his patient's neck and flagged down another person to request a backboard for transport.

He smiled softly and moved over to the boy. "Your brother will be just fine. I want to get him on a backboard so he can be moved outside easer and the brace is just to keep his head steady." He knelt down and dug in his bag to come up with some basic supplies. "Now while we wait why don't we get you fixed up. Can you tell me your name and where you are right now?" He asked as he took out a flashlight and flicked it on. "This is going to be bright. Bear with it for a few moments please. What is your brothers name? Do you know what day it is?" Pat flicked the light in and out of the boy's extraordinary colored eyes. Both the lights and the questions were to help determine if the kid was suffering from a concussion or residual effects of the carbon monoxide. "Does your head hurt? What about anything else?"

"Briar" Briar said as he continued to stare at his brother anxiously as the man stuck a brace round his neck. "My name is Briar."

The other man seemed to be a doctor-man and he also seemed confident that his brother was going to be okay, so after a few more moments of worried staring at his brother he reluctantly turned to look at the man "Kay" he said as gave a small grave nod. "I'm Briar" continued "And this is where the Luna Bay concert was" he wrinkled his nose "But it wasn't that great."

His pupils constricted as the man shone the light in first one eye and then the other, the reddish colour of his eyes prominent, but he continued speaking as the man continued asking questions. "My brother's name is Scott and it's Saturday" there was a tinge of annoyance in the way that only a twelve year old could muster when asked something he though obvious at that last, the 'duh' silent but there.

And then he was blinking owlishly from beneath his glasses as the man moved the light away. "No my head's okay - I didn't get hit when the ceiling fell down."

He can tell it like it is or lie XD tho fair warning if he tells it like it is Pat totally won't believe him ^.^

Pat was pleased by the normal reaction of the kid's, Briar's, he mentally corrected, pupils and his coherent answers. "I can imagine the concert wasn't any fun once the gas explosion happened." Pat said with a rueful smile as he put away the flashlight. "It's not just the falling debris that we have to worry about when it comes to a head injury." He fished out some antiseptic and bandages, he didn't want to leave the boy alone with his brother while they were waiting for a backboard. There seemed like there were a lot of medical personnel who were transporting and treating civilians so Pat didn't feel too bad by sticking around the kid. It would be better for Briar of he was around, at least until they could get his brother outside and either awake or to a hospital.

"This is going to sting some," he warned as he began to tend to the visible cuts on Briar's arms. "Carbon Monoxide has a tendency to cause light headedness, confusion, headaches, vertigo, and flu-like symptoms so by asking basic questions like what's your name, location, date, etcetera we can get a feel as to how much exposure from the gas you received." The EMT knew that Briar likely didn't care, or was even following Pat's explanation but the tall red-head rambled on to provide a distraction for the boy as he methodically cleaned then bandaged the countless cuts and scrapes. When he ran out of things to say Pat asked, "can you tell me what happened?" He was hoping to get some idea of what exactly happened, and what kind of injures to expect.

Briar blinked at the man from beneath his glasses at the other's mention of a gas explosion, his reddish eyes puzzled "Gas explosion?" Explosion came out more like 'splosion'. "There was an explosion - well it sounded like a s'plosion - but it wasn't a gas one." He probably would have continued, but the man followed up with a long explanation of something - which mostly went over his head and then stuck some antiseptic stuff on the cuts on his arms which stung painfully.

He managed to bear it, in his opinion, manfully - at least manfully in the way of a twelve year old trying to be tough - which meant that he scrunched up his eyes and hissed...

But it was totally a little hiss which meant - at least to him - that it totally didn't count.

Eventually after bandaging up the cuts, he stopped going on and on about the stuff that kept going over his head and eventually asked him what happened.

"There wasn't a gas explosion," he repeated. "But there was this super weird purple fog thing" he thought about it. "Well it didn't seem weird at first - more cool in a sort creepy way - but then it kept coming and coming until you couldn't really see anything and people were yelling and I lost my brother."

He continued "And there was a s'plosion sound and some of the fog cleared" he turned enough so that he could point a bandaged hand in the direction of the huge hole in the floor "And a monster came out of the hole."

He wasn't sure if he should mention the monster, but he hadn't been the only one to see the monster - there had been others who had seen it too.

No explosion? Pat frowned briefly as he finished placing the last bandage on Briar's arm. His confusion faded some as the boy explained about the fog. "Oh you mean a special effect from the concert. It sounds like it malfunctioned." It was a logical explanation but something about the whole situation sent chills up his spine.

"A monster hum?" Pat was doing his best to placate the boy to keep him calm but even as Pat glanced at the giant hole in the floor he felt an eerie sense that Briar was telling the truth. Being an EMT in this city meant he had encountered a lot of people who flaked strange things, most could be explained away but a few.... A few were beyond the bounds of normal and well into the range of strange. The redhead wondered if this explosion was going to be one of them. "If there was a monster where is it now? Did it dissipate with the fog?" Could the boy had an adverse reaction to the special effects and the gas? It might explain the 'monster' but it didn't really explain the lack of symptoms.

Since he was finished patching up Briar he moved back over to his brother, Scott, and began to clean and treat the minor cuts he could access without moving him too much. If a group doesn't come with a backboard soon he will have to go get one himself, he didn't want to leave the brothers in the rubble too long. Especially if Briar was showing lingering effects of the gas since it might mean Scott with have the same issues once he was awake.

It was hard to tell if the doctor-man believed him, but he managed a half-nod at his head as the man repeated his words back as a query.

“Yes a monster” there was flat note to his voice. “It’s gone now though, but it left all those petals behind.”

The man had finished with his other arm so he used his hand to point at the wilted petals coating the floor “You can still...”

A sound from his brother’s direction had him turning round, the doctor-man momentarily forgotten as he turned his attention back to his brother, his reddish eyes anxious as he hovered by them and called out “Scott. Scott! Are you okay?!”

Pat eyed the crushed and wilted petals scattered about the destroyed venue. He felt a chill run up his spine, as if someone had dropped ice cubes down his shirt. Of course the kid had to be imagining things, the fog and petals were all part of the special effects and the 'monster' was just a reaction to the gas that had been released during the explosion.... Right? He swallowed hard and mentally turned away from the thought that Briar was right.

Like a stroke of luck the sound from the figure by his hands distracted Pat. He glanced down and saw that Scott seemed to be coming around. With a calming hand on the other guy's shoulder Pat leaned over until he got a clear view of Scott's eyes. "You will be just fine. I'm Pat and I'm an EMT. Right now I'm waiting for a backboard to get you out of here safely. The brace around your neck is just a precaution. Please keep calm and still." He leaned back slightly so Briar could see his brother. He smiled up at the younger boy and did his best to comfort the brothers.

"Everything will be just fine guys. In fact I can see the other EMTs are coming over now." Pat could see four guys heading over with a bored. Soon the two guys would be outside and getting a second look over before heading on to a hospital if it's necessary. Pat figured they would just as a precaution. He fished out his flashlight and quickly performed the same eye test on Scott that he did on Briar, glad that Scott's eyes reacted normally. "Anything really hurt? Your pretty banged up but you seem in one piece."

Briar continued to hover as the doctor-guy stopped asking him questions and turned his attention towards his brother.

Then again, it was probably just as well given that Briar's attention was now on one place and one place only - his brother.

He sat anxiously as his brother finally opened his eyes, revealing eyes that were of a similar reddish colour to his own, albeit slightly darker. They also looked kind of out of it and when his brother finally started speaking his voice sounded kind of out of it too. At least at first it did, but by the time that the doctor-man shifted so that Briar could get a proper look at him, his brother was starting to sound more like himself - to the point where he managed to offer up a small smile and a "Hey little man."

It was a teasing title that normally Briar wouldn't have taken too kindly to, but he was so relieved that Scott was awake that he actually let the comment slide.

He belatedly remembered about the doctor-man towards the end as the other was finishing up with his questions to his brother, his face solemn as he told him simply "Thank you for helping my brother."

your next post should wrap it. sorry about the delay in the reply ^.^'

Pat smiled softly at the simple interaction between the brothers. Something as simple as a normally disagreeable nickname used by a loved one in a time of stress helped relieve the build up worry. It was kind of amusing to see how an annoying name became a welcomed comment since it meant everything would be ok. As the brothers were talking, well more like silently checking each other, Pat gave a quick run down to the other guys who were waiting for the clearance to get the brothers out of there.

He turned back to Briar when the young boy spoke to him. "Nah I didn't do anything. You are doing more for him by sticking with him then I did by applying some band-aids." He gestured to the four guys, "these guys are going to help you and your brother get out of here. Stick with them and everything will be fine." He helped them get Scott situated and watched as they were ready to go. "Take good care of your brother Briar. I'm going to go help others now. Everything will be A-Okay, alright?" After getting the reply he expected Pat shouldered his bag and headed deeper into the destruction, looking for more people injured and in need of help.

Briar wasn't sure that he really agreed with the doctor-guy's 'not doing anything' comment, but he dutifully looked over at the mentioned guys when Pat pointed them out.

The answer to the other's comment about looking after his brother was so obvious that Briar didn't bother with a verbal answer - just a quick nod - reddish eyes watching for a moment as the doctor guy packed up his stuff before turning back to his brother.

Well not quite, as he turned around to give the doctor guy a wave from a bandaged arm as the other moved to disappear further into the crowd.

Then he turned back to Scott because he was sooo not letting his brother out of his sight - not after having finally found him.
