As he crested the top of one of the low hills, more appeared only a few elevation levels below him - and among the swaying grasses stood a mare that looked shockingly familiar. But no - how long had it been since he had left her? Three, four weeks? And they had appeared to have gone in opposite directions. So who was mare who looked so like Denika Lynn?
His first thought was that it might be the sister she was looking for, but he had already had false alarms with soquili who turned out to be horses who were not spirit blessed at all. So as he made his way down the hill, Roary tamped down his hope. She could be anyone, he told himself, but even so, he said her name tentatively. At first, he wasn't sure it had carried on the wind, so he said it again. "Melanie Rae?"
