The night was warm, midsummer breeze tickling her long blonde hair into her face, the stars twinkling merrily above where she sat. Tempette always enjoyed the quiet, and the sounds of crickets helped calm her further. As always she had been in a tiff with her mother, which had resulted in the two having to be separated. Logic had nothing to do with why she kept subjecting herself to family reunions; rather a sense of duty had compelled her. It had been quite a while since she had felt connected to anyone but her… her what? Boyfriend? Lover? She didn’t feel that they had solidified what stipulations were on their relationship, what title to use. He had fought another for her, a boy who had once held her affections, nearly hurt himself dearly in the process, yet she was completely fine with the gray area they existed in.

Unfortunately, as her mother had indicated in their tiff, that calm would not always exist. People do not like to exist in a state of uncertainty. Tempette gripped the glass under her hand with a claw, absentmindedly pulling it up and flinging it at the nearby brick wall. Alice had brought a poor kid from the college to introduce her to, a “nice suitable young man” which had only ended in a bigger rift.

“Just ******** it.” She sighed and closed her eyes.

Though the indoors were nice and cool, Wylde didn't mind the warm summer evenings. The wind helped keep much of the stickiness from clinging to skin and hair. Plus the sky was nice and clear, and, the cherry on sundae, Tempette was sitting out there. What better to bask in after a while of work? The moon, the stars, and his beautiful sunshine. Good stuff. Grabbing an icy drink before heading out, Wylde slowly opened the door, quietly singing some little ditty to himself, but stopped mid-word at the shattering of her thrown glass.

His brows inched higher upon his forehead and he angled his head to the side as he considered the place where the glass exploded against the brick wall. He gave a whistle and shook his head. "Man, cher, had I known that wasn't up to snuff, I'd have grabbed you a fresh one," The tom drawled as he moved to sit down next to her on the stairs, leaning over to place a kiss upon the top of her shoulder before righting himself again. "We can share," he offered with a tip of his glass.

Taking a moment to appraise her body language, he sighed, resting his elbows on his knees, and leaned forward to get a better view of her face. "Went to visit the family again, eh? I take it wasn't all tea and biscuits. Mind sharin' what's got you so worked up?" Though if he had to venture, he had at least a guess or two as to the possible cause for his dear little lady's upset.

Tempette sighed deeply again, taking in the scent of Wylde. “Sorry, shouldn’t have lost my cool like that.” Without opening her eyes she indicated toward the broken glass, strewn haphazardly across the grass. She gingerly took the proffered glass from his hands, sipping it while pondering how to phrase her story.

“It’s mom again. You know that Emily was always the baby, especially since her clumsiness rendered her inept. Well, the other hand is I’m the eldest of her girls.” She shrugged her thin shoulders, still feeling the tingles reverberating from where his lips had been moments before. Her hands went out in front of her in exasperation. “I guess I’m not quite living up to expectation. I mean look at me—I strung how many guys along and am still at least partly commitment phobic? I work in the casino as a female escort under a guise which sometimes feels more real than when I’m not pretending to be Lilith, and I don’t really have much ambition. According to her I don’t take anything seriously, and maybe she is right. I mean the woman is a goddess to the kids she works with and expects to be treated as such, whereas I’m… well I’m just me over here having a crisis of identity or some such bullshit.”

She finally looked over at Wylde, making eye contact for the first time since the glass had shattered. “She put me on a blind date with one of the boys from the University. She wants me to consider settling down.” Her arm flung out to indicate their surroundings, falling limply to her side. “According to mum this all has to end sometime. And when it does I’ll just go running home to her warm outstretched arms or some crap.”

Tempette pulled away, placing her face in her hands, trying not to think of how painful it would be to lose him. She knew that change was coming, meaning her mother was right, but a larger part of her hated Alice for breaking the calm and destroying the illusionary peace she had felt in her heart. Truth be told Tempette was terrified of growing up, of having to take responsibility for her actions, but it seemed that it would become necessary in order for her to ever be able to face her family again with her head held high.
