The journey back to Serenia had been nerve wrecking for the Orderite. They’d had to take her boat back and that’s where she’d changed back into her noble Xenosa self. Her fake self, but one that was needed. Those who had been on the ship long enough were confused as to why she was bringing a Khehora on board. As far as they could remember she was not bonded to anything, though if this was indeed her Bonded it would explain just why a noble lady such as Xenosa was always going off on her own without an escort. It seemed that Keke’s presence, unbeknownst to him had quelled some rumors that she was seeing someone on the side.

Good. Xenosa didn’t need this kind of drama in her life.

During the journey Xenosa explained the rules of the city to Keke, she was certainly going to make a few heads turn in her direction with Keke. Needless to say, the sailing was smooth and they were back in Serenia soon enough. Xenosa got into her carriage and made sure Keke could get in the back before they were off towards her home. Here her stomach rolled and threw a fit. This was the part that she was not looking forward to, Keke would certainly have questions about her family. She hadn’t explained a thing to him and she was sure he would find it very odd for another man to be there, another man touching her husband.

Things couldn’t get much worse really.

“I’m home.” Xenosa called out loudly as she passed through the double doors into the grand entrance. A servant came for ehr things, smiling and nodding at her until they noticed that she wasn’t alone.

“I’ll need a room prepared for Keke.” The servant nodded and was gone in a flash. Xenosa sighed softly, relaxing seeing that her husband wasn’t home until she heard a shrill voice and her husband's lover coming towards her with open arms.

“Xenosa, my love, you look amazing. How were your travels?” The man pulled her into a hug and Xenosa complied and gave one of her own. She grudgingly liked the man.

“It’s nice to see you Omard. I’ve been well and my travels were fruitful thank you. I have someone I’d like you to meet.”

“Omard this is Kekeovannai my bonded, Keke this is Omard... He’s our cook.” So many lies Xenosa didn’t know how she could live such a life. Omard seemed surprised but bowed his head and smiled.

“I did not know Xenosa had a bonded, it is nice to meet you.”

Despite the 'smooth' passage, Kekeovonnai had to endure the consequences of boat and it’s rocking. Being so divorced from his own element was disorienting, and his sensitive sense of balance was thrown off nearly every second of the voyage. His head felt thick and sticky, and his whole body shook with every tiny wave that rocked the boat even slightly. Keke managed, however, only because he had other, more fascinating things to focus on: like rules and laws and culture. That, and the sailing was soon over.

Once back on land, any lethargy and illness went away the moment his four talons touched the ground. He spent plenty of time investigating around him, of course, until the carriage...

Oh the carriage.

It was a new experience, being carted around. Kekeovonnai could feel every rattle and rumble jostling him, but to his surprised delight, he did not feel ill. He enjoyed the sensations he could feel from the wheels and the views he could see out of the tiny window.

Finally, they were there. Keke boggled at the grandeur of the Magescian lair before him, though frankly he would have been amazed by a quaint cottage by a river. It was all so new, so incredible, so fantastic, so new! He couldn't wait to explore the rest of the city and the environs and make his observations and have an incredible amount of fun.

“Oh, my! I get my own room?!” he said, surprised. He thought he would have to sleep communally – which would have been warm – or would have to be put up outside. He hadn't been sure if Magescians would have areas suitable for a Khehora in their house. But, he realized, he needn't have worried! Magescians thought of everything! That was what made them so intriguing!

He looked up curiously at Omard and would have thought that he was her 'Husband-not-Mate' or her kin if she hadn't explained something of the situation to him on the way over. He nearly said that he wasn't her mysterious bonded – which was a silly assumption because bonded couldn't really leave their bondmate without trouble, from what he heard. It would be too cruel to contemplate, especially for his friend Xenosa, he was sure!

However, he remembered that she had also told him that he needed to lie. Lying was completely fine with Keke – it had been a lot of fun before, and he understood that it could cause all sorts of problems if they realized he was feral... before they got to know him, anyway. They might think he would defecate in their houses and claw their furniture! Or, worse, eat their children! He was so excited to meet Magescian children and talk to them – he'd be more likely to eat his own tail than to eat one of them.

He trotted up to Omard and offered a talon in something resembling a handshake, a gesture he had heard that Magesicans used for greeting. “It's nice to meet you too!” he chirped pleasantly, “So, you're a cook! Are you cooking anything now? May I try some?”

Omard regarded Xenosa who ignored the look he’d given her. He found it odd that Xen had not told her Bonded about their arrangements, but he was not going to call her out on it.

“I am indeed cooking something, dinner will be served soon. The man of the house hasn’t arrived yet,” A little jab he sent at Xenosa which earned him a roll of her eyes. “You are very welcome to try it if you would like, as long as your mistress is not opposed to it?” The question was directed at Xenosa who had been ignoring the conversation until now. Of course he’d ask for her permission since Keke was her Bonded, she was going to have to remember that.

“If Keke wants to I don’t see why he can’t? He’s not my slave.” And with that Xenosa brushed past Omard and headed for the kitchen. The smells that were coming from it were delicious, she was sure Omard had prepared some kind of sweet dessert for her of some kind. Did he perhaps have some bad news he wanted to tell her? Xenosa’s eye twitched in irritation, she could only guess what kind of scheme went on between the two men when she wasn’t home. She wasn’t going to have to put a stop to that nonsense at some point, maybe when she retired or something. She was going to show them there was no man in the house, only a women.

There were two other staff members in the kitchen helping Omard and they paused when they spotted Xenosa and bowed. Omard joined her in the kitchen soon enough and walked around it.

“We have some roasted mixed vegetables with a nice stuffed meat. For dessert we have a mixed fruit pie.” Ahh, so that is what she had smelled, the sweetness of the fruits cooking by the fire. “If you want Keke, I can remove a slab of meat if you’d like to taste, and perhaps a few vegetables. The tasting of the pie, I’m afraid, will have to wait until dinner.” Xenosa took a seat on one of the stools to watch the exchange.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 30, 2015 7:43 am

Keke watched her in surprise as she pushed past this new, interesting cooking Orderite, his nose twitching as he sampled the smells that hung like a thick and tantalizing miasma around his white frock. He tilted his head. Now why was Xenosa so prickly now? He looked at Omard, inspecting his white hat briefly before waiting for an answer. But Omard offered no explanation for Xenosa's actions, and Keke simply noted it down as yet another fascinating observation as he was led into the kitchen.

Oh the kitchen.

His nose danced with all the scents that abounded in the kitchen. Pungent spices, rich oils, roasted meat, and the almost-smells of heat and iron pervaded the place, and he grinned to take in more of the aromas through his mouth. “Stuffed meat?” he asked, surprised, “Ah, but what is in the meat?” Putting spices on the outside of meat was very logical to him. He had seen it done before, even with his clan’s own campfire. But inside the meat? What did one put inside the meat? “And I will be happy to sample…” he tried not to drool, “Anything you want to give me!” he gave an almost guilty puppy-like grin - he was actually quite hungry. He hadn’t eaten anything since he had gotten on the ship… for obvious reasons. The fare after the ship had been fairly sparing, and he hadn’t eaten much while recovering from the imbalances of travel. “It all smells so good…”

“The outside has my special secret mix blend but inside there are more spices and some cheese as well as another meat.” Xenosa looked out towards the window, it was so like her husband to stuff meat with more meat and it was so like Omard to give her husband what he wanted.

Motioning with his hand towards the aids, the cooks brought out the meat that was cooking while Omard sharpened a knife. They set the emat down and Omard removed a sliver of the meat, stuffing included, and placed it into a plate. Then he took a few vegetables and placed some in the same plate before putting others in another. He pushed the plate with the vegetable across towards Xenosa before holding the plate down for Keke to take the meat. Xenosa glared at the vegetables but was coerced into putting a few up to taste.

Honey and spices, her favorite. Damn that man.

“I didn’t forget you love.” He said before turning his attention to Keke and motioned for the other cooks to take the meat back into the oven. “Let me know how it tastes”

Keke sniffed the meat, already drooling. Wait, they put more meat into meat? What an intriguing concept! Now he had to try it, and not just for his stomach. It was, of course, a taster and thus barely enough meat to fill an Orakoi’s belly, but by the rolling edges of Magesc’s continents it was amazing. Keke had never realized that meat could have so many flavors! “Mmm!” he exclaimed, eating the stuffing too. It was such an interesting texture!

He tried the vegetables, slurping them into his mouth and pressing them against the roof of his mouth to crush them, as he had learned to do. Khehora teeth could crush but they mostly ripped, tore, and held so when eating vegetation the tongue, pallette, and back of the teeth had to be more involved. It was a time consuming process, but when vegetables and roots were all that one could find, it worked. For once, though, the process was worthwhile, because with every slicing motion of his teeth, with every crushing press against his mouth, and finally, against the flatter teeth at the back of his mouth, the vegetables oozed flavor and were so… good!

He licked his plate clean. “That was amazing!” he chirruped, looking at Xenosa happily, “I didn’t realize that Magescians could do magic with food!” He turned back to Omard excitedly, “What else can you do?” he asked, eager to explore this new and fascinating clan of magic called cooking…

Oh by the goddess! Xenosa was fuming on the inside, now Keke liked him too?!

“Oh plenty of things I can do, I also gar--”

“Enough, Keke and I need to relax after the journey. We can chat more during dinner.” And with that Xenosa got up from her chair and gave Keke a look that he should follow her. “Tell my husband that I’ll see him at dinner.” With those final words, Xenosa as off stomping and peeved towards her room. How dare he! Acting all chummy and such with Keke… Argh! It was like the man was perfect and she couldn’t find a single fault in him except that he had her husband's attention! Though just that thought was enough to send the usually calm Orderite into a fit.

Pushing the double doors open hard enough that they slammed on the walls Xenosa stomped into her room and her hands immediately went to unlace the back of her corset.

“How am I supposed to compete with something like that?” Xenosa reeled to face Keke. “Unbelievable, do you see how friendly he is? And he’s an amazing cook for goodness sake.” Getting the corset undone, Xenosa threw it across the room and began to undo her dress. “I hate and love him at the same time.” Once removed, Xenosa stayed in a long one piece undergarments and she went to her bed and flopped down on it. “Argh.”
PostPosted: Fri Jul 03, 2015 9:37 am

Oh, they were going already? “You should tell me later, Omard! Maybe when we are eating the meal!” he said. Yes, that would be fitting!

Kekeovonnai followed Xenosa back to her rooms calmly, watching her curiously as she shed her clothing like scales. He found a comfortable spot - and there were many on the carpeted floor to choose from - and settled in. He wasn’t sure he understood why she was so upset, though clearly it had to do with the complicated situation between her and her husband. He wondered if he would ever figure out that convoluted web.

“I know the feeling.” he said, as she loosened her corset and dress, “My father - one of them - left us a long time ago. My sister and I searched for him. My sister thought of him far more than she ever thought of me, and I was a little jealous of him. But we never found him. I love him - he’s my father. But I hate him for making things so strained between us…” he hesitated, “Maybe I don’t hate him, though.” No, the way he felt about Oblivion wasn’t nearly that strong. Honestly, for both his fathers, he felt only mild appreciation, nothing particularly strong. But, certainly, the way he felt about Oblivion was more mixed. He got to his feet and investigated the bed - it seemed very comfortable, like a compacted cloud. Rearing onto his hindlegs, he tested it with a claw, noting just how soft it really was.

“Is it something similar, maybe?”

Xenosa turned in bed to look at Keke. “What do you mean one of your fathers?” Did he have two fathers? Could Khehora have eggs from two fathers? Xenosa had been under the impression that they required a male and female like all other species. In any case, at least he had two fathers. Xenosa had never met her father, didn't even know if he was alive. Heck, she barely knew her mother much less remembered her other pathetic excuse of siblings she had. No, she was much better off without family maybe, it seemed they all had a knack at highly disappointing her or bringing her on the brink of self destruction.

“I think it could be,” Xenosa contemplated what Keke had said. It sounded like Khehora could have lives just as complicated as regular Magesciens. Seeing Keke testing out the bed, Xenosa shifted her position so he had room to climb on. “Ever been on a bed before?” She tapped the empty spot next to her. “Maybe I’ll just nap until dinner time or something.”
PostPosted: Sat Jul 11, 2015 3:09 pm

“One of my fathers.” he said, surprised, “Samael and Oblivion were my fathers - both of them are Khehorian. I think Samael is known here too…” he’d certainly travelled everywhere, and he wasn’t a subtle khehora, so Keke had assumed that Samael was just generally well known. “Oblivion found our nest and they raised my sister and I, which makes them our fathers.” he explained, as if it was completely obvious and completely normal. He left out, of course, the whole controversy of the missing third egg and the dark issues surrounding how Oblivion had found their nest… there was a reason that Kekeovonnai was so cool towards his parents, and it was not something he talked about, even to Vazarri. He simply did not want to address it.

He sniffed at the bed, testing it again with his claws. “No, I haven’t…” he said, finally deciding - with her invitation, of course - to jump onto the bed. It bounced slightly under his weight, and he pushed down on it with a talon in surprised delight. “Oh! It’s soft!” he exclaimed, laying on his side and making himself comfortable with surprising ease. He stretched out to his full extent, luxuriating in the silky feel of the cloth against his scales. “Even the covering is soft!” His stretch complete, he curled inward, somewhat around Xenosa, and laid his head on the bed near her, wiggling a little to make himself extra comfortable. It was so comfortable. And, suddenly, he was aware of just how fatigued travel had made him. “I think that’s a good idea…” he said, yawning widely and closing his eyes.

He was so soundly asleep that he hadn’t realized he was asleep until he woke up to a soft knocking at the door. “Mistress Xenosa?” a servant’s voice called. Keke watched the door lazily, noting that the day had passed by quite a bit, and the room was darker now than before. “Dinner is ready…” she hesitated, as if she was going to say something else, “Shall I come in and help you dress for dinner, Mistress?” That, Keke could determine, wasn’t it.

“Hey…” Keke nudged Xenosa gently, “She says that the food is ready!” he, for one, was excited.

“Oh!” the voice behind the door recoiled in surprise at the sound of his voice, “Oh, no! Your bonded! Will he be needing a bath before dinner?” The door remained closed, but Keke could hear chagrin in her voice.

Keke perked up. “A bath?” he looked to Xenosa, puzzled, “That sounds nice, doesn’t it?”

Interesting life, Xenosa thought. Thoguh sleep was slowly starting to take it’s toll on the Orderite and her eyes were already closed. She nestled into Keke before really letting sleep take her far far away.

It had been a long time since Xenosa had slept this well, companionship in bed did her well. In her sleep she had cuddled up to Keke, seeking his warmth and someone to bury her face in. It was nice to not sleep alone for once in her own bed in her own home. Not that it would last long, Keke would have to return to his own home once this little vacation was over. Still, Xenosa was too tired to think about that right now, she stretched and yawned eyes opening up and squinting at the light of a candle someone had brought in earlier.

“Fetch another servant to get Keke a bath, make it quick then come and help me dress.” Rolling off the bed, Xenosa stretched herself before taking a small wooden stick and using it to light the rest of the candles in her bedroom. She didn't exactly want to stay in the darkness forever.

“How’d you sleep?” There was a splashing noise in the room next door as the servants began to fill the tub with hot water, it would be ready soon enough.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 19, 2015 11:57 am

Keke levered himself to his feet, enticed by the prospect of a bath. “I slept very well!” he commented as he eased himself off the bed, “It was incredibly comfortable!” It was very nice to not sleep alone, and nicer still to do so on a soft and comfortable mattress. It had been a long time, Keke realized, since he had had another to curl around, not since his adventures in Soldul with his sister. That had been limited by her nocturnal tendencies, of course.

He stretched out sleep-tensed muscles as Xenosa lit the candles, admiring how the lights remained in their little waxen sockets. Such technology, amazing and yet simple and absent to his own kind. He wondered if a khehora could make such devices, then abandoned the thought. Likely not. Wax was too delicate for khehora claws to harvest and use… though… a khehorian might be able to… what a fascinating thought!
His stretching complete, he padded over to investigate the bath, pausing in surprise at the pleasant smell of steam. Warm water?! He was getting a bath in warm water?! He padded over and sniffed at the water, ignoring for the moment the wary servant. Scented oil nearly made him sneeze, and he positively wriggled in delighted anticipation at the thought of such lovely things on his scales.

The bath full, the servant stepped back to let him through. As excitedly as a large, well trained canine, Keke hopped into the bath, wiggling to submerge himself in the blissfully warm water, splashing the servant inadvertently in the process. They yelped, trying to protect themselves unsuccessfully from the water before reaching for a long brush.

And then they began to scrub.

Kekeovonnai practically melted into a glob of khehora in the bath, purring madly as the brush’s bristles massaged his skin. His sides, his wings, his belly, his arms, and his head all got scrubbed thoroughly and blissfully, leaving gleaming obsidian scales and bright yellow and green markings in his wake.

He did not want to leave the bath when it was done, but he was anxiously reminded that dinner awaited him and that was enough to coax him, reluctantly, out of the bath. He was toweled off and dried before the servant nervously shooed him out and began to clean up the mess he had made.

Finally, clean and presentable, Kekeovonnai followed Xenosa to dinner, feeling happy, well rested, and very hungry.

“That’s good.” Xenosa waited for Keke to leave the room to go into the next where the bath was before she removed the under garment dress she was wearing. A girl stepped forward with the dress for the night neatly folded in a pile and laid it on the bed before picking up the first piece Xenosa had to put on. The Orderite complied and helped the girl dress her. She hated Orderite womens clothing, it was bulky and heavy and constrained her far too much than it ought to. She looked pretty in it but it was too much work for her. She enjoyed the feel of leather pants far too much.

When someone yelped after a splash, Xenosa turned her eyes towards the bathroom briefly and chuckled. She wondered how Keke was doing in there, she was sure he was enjoying himself. Once dressed, Xenosa sat down for her hair to be brushed and shaped into something nice.

“Something simple if you will.” The girl nodded and pulled her hair back with two braids on the side of her head. Once finished, Xenosa waved her way and went to stand at the doorway to watch Keke finish up his bath. She made sure she didn’t get any water on the cream gown she was wearing and motioned for him to follow her down to dinner once he was dried off. Dread began to fill Xenosa’s stomach, as it always did when she sat at dinner with her husband and Omard. She hated feeling this way, hated that he made her feel like that. She wanted to run and curl up and hide somewhere.

But, tonight was different. Tonight, Keke was here.

The table was set with four plates, the food piled on. It seemed Omard had run out to get more food in case they ran out for Keke. Xenosa took a seat and motioned for Keke to sit next to her at the head of the table to prevent her husband from sitting there. Omard came in with a large plate of meat, was surprised to see where Xenosa had seated Keke but said nothing and took a seat a seat over from Keke’s side where Sythen would seat himself.

“He’ll be right in, had to change.” Omard said and took a sip of the wine cup.

“Always late.” Xenosa rolled her eyes and grasped the wine cup and downed the liquid before asking for a refill. The door to the dining room swung open, almost hitting the wall and in walked Sythen. He paused seeing Keke in his spot and blinked before slowly walking in.

“So nice you could be with us tonight, Xenosa.” Sythen jabbed Xen before kissing Omard on the cheek and then dropped himself onto his seat facing Keke.

“So I hear you’re the reason my wife keeps running away.”

“You don’t have to be so rude.” Xenosa said, glaring at the man.

“Well excuse me for wanting to know where you run off to. I thought you were ******** some other man!”

“Unlike you, I have enough decency not to be ******** another man while I’m married.” Xenosa stabbed back at him. Omard laid a hand on Sythens shoulder.

“Why don’t we all get along tonight hm? I made a wonderful meal for us and I don’t want it to go cold.” Turning to Keke, Omard smiled. “This is Sythen, don’t mind his manners. Would you like to be served? What would you like to eat?” Xenosa and Sythen glared daggers at each other across the table.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 19, 2015 12:20 pm

Keke trotted over to the offered seat, the actual chair being moved out of the way to allow him passage. He could not, after all, sit on it without looking ridiculous and possibly breaking the chair, and he was fine on the ground. He boggled at the table, at the settings, at Xenosa who had suddenly transformed into something beautiful from the scruffy adventuress that he was so accustomed to - much like a flower, really, an illusion supported by the flowing cloth of her dress. Everything was so different than what he was used to, Keke wasn’t sure what to expect next. It was not, however, a slamming door. Keke watched the newcomer with intrigued curiosity - why had he done that? Who was he? Why was he so cranky, when presented with such glorious food? Why did he also look beautiful? Was this some unknown property of magescian clothing? It made sense in a way - if they could change their outer skin so easily, of course they would choose to make it beautiful… so why not all the time? Why did Xenosa dress so frequently in dull colors and leather? Kekeovonnai’s curiosity was boundless… although, he was somewhat awkward as the little spat began.

“Ah, yes?” he said, surprised at the apparent hostility. Kekeovonnai wasn’t sure what he had done to the man, aside from just meeting him. “I’m Kekeovonnai, and she does come to visit me often?” He wasn’t sure what else to say, especially as the conversation veered off into other directions. It was uncanny, he thought, how similar it was to the fights his parents used to have, long ago.

Wait, did that mean that this was her husband-not-mate? Perhaps it would be a good time to elaborate on that?

He looked at Omard, then at his plate, then back at Omard. “Served? Er, yes. I’d like some food.” he looked back at his plate, then at the silverware nearby. Those were things that magescians used for… some purpose. Keke had witnessed Xenosa using knives to slice foes and also to slice meat - sensible, since Magescians were deprived of fangs and claws. But the other thing? The tined instrument? The scooping instrument? He knew a spoon and it’s use in carrying water, but what would he use it for here?

But as the food was piled onto his plate, Keke knew he had to eat it. It smelled so good, and he was still so hungry. His instinct led him to try to eat, as normal, but as he managed to pick up a piece of meat in his mouth, it proved to be difficult. The plate was monstrously unstable on the table and slid around it easily. He ate what he had and stared down at the food, forlornly. Keke knew enough not to make a terrible mess, and he wanted to learn magescian manners - he truly did. He looked up at Omard pleadingly, his nose now dirtied by the plate. “How do I…? With my talons maybe?”

To say that Xenosa was pissed as an understatement. She was fuming. She wanted to throw herself across the table and choke the living life out of her husband. Or perhaps accidentally stab his hand with a fork. That could work too. But she would do none of those things, Keke was here and it probably wasn’t in her best interests to start poking holes into her husband, but a fork... Xenosa discarded the idea once more. She had to behave, deal with this and try to get threw it. She was an adult, she wouldn’t stoop to her husband's childish ways.

Omard served Keke first as the guest and then Xenosa, he could feel the wrath coming off of her as if she bathed in it. He was going to have to have a talk with Sythen, if he wanted his wife home more often he was going to have to behave. Now at least, they knew that she wasn’t seeing someone else and could quell those rumors, surely they’d seen her coming in with a Bonded. Sythen had the best of both worlds while Xenosa had nothing. Yes, he would have to have a talk with Sythen and hope for the best.

“I think it might be easier with your talons yes.” He replied as he finished serving Xenosa who had just downed her second glass of wine and has requested a third.

“Why is he eating at our table anyways?” Sythen muttered looking at the mess Keke had become with the food. Xenosa paused and very slowly raised her eyes to her husbands.

“You will be amicable with him or I will stab you.” Her voice was ice cold and she’d even pointed her meat knife at him. It was a threat if anyone had ever seen one more obvious. Sythen cleared his throat and thanked Omard for the food before stuffing a piece into his mouth.

“Yes I think with your talons it would be easier.” Omard tried to demonstrate with his fingers how Keke might be able to approach grabbing things. “You just need a bit of practice, don’t worry.” Then he also cleared his throat. “How were your travels Xenosa?”
