It had been some time since the trials for joining the army had occurred, yet Nuri still would hear the whispers of his peers. Elder members of the army would openly stare at him, the man who rode a Gerru alone, before nodding or hissing to each other as he passed. His direct peers would shoot him looks of wonder or frustration depending on how they felt about his current fame. His beast charmer peers would openly joke and mock him, the only ones who got over the little stint and saw past his infamous entry to the army.

Nuri found himself walking away from the training grounds with a bit of a grumble, not quite ready to get the stares this day. Despite the fact he rode the warbeast, since then he had been tasked for management of creatures interfering with civilian day-to-day activities. That mostly meant going to the trader paths and clearing them for merchants.

It wasn't glorious, but it was something. At least he had Saraf to continue to inspire him to keep fighting and make a name for himself.

Things hadn’t really gone the way Karothdra had wanted at her initiation, but the results were there and that’s what was important. Now that she had proven herself not only to the others in the army as well as her father she was sure she could remove her brother from his position. She’d already whipped his smirk off of his face at the dinner table when her father had announced the results… All she needed now were strong allies and power. It was always the same thing, power and influence. Maybe she ought to take a little walk to the Red Amaryllis. She’d heard that’ where all the men had their dealings.

It got Karothdra thinking… There were a few other Obans who had done exceptionally well at their own trials, perhaps she ought to start there. These individuals were bound to go far and were bound to want the same thing as her. After asking around it was easy to get a list of names of those potential individuals. Many were from very prominent families, which was all the better for her really. The first name on her list was someone named Nuri, his name she’d heard whispered by the other beast tamers and was definitely someone she wanted to meet.

After seeking out the one I chare, Karothdra went and found Nuri on his assignment. She found him easily enough.

“Nuri!” She called as she caught up to him. “Are you Nuri?” Better ask to make sure.

Started out of his thoughts at the sound of his name, Nuri paused in his walk and his grumbling to look around. The voice, when it spoke a second time, was not familiar, and as he turned he found he couldn't really place a name with the girl's face. She seemed familiar in appearance, at least in the fact she was a fellow initiate, but that was it.

"Yes..." He stated simply, waiting for her to join him before beginning his walk again. If she was so keen to reach out to him, she could follow him away from the training grounds. He at least wanted to get far enough away from his peers so they wouldn't meddle in any discussion.

"Forgive me, I don't quite recall your name..."

“Karothdra,” she said and followed pace with him easily. “I’ve head you had done exceptionally well in your trials.” Many had recommended him, it made sense she sought him out. “And I know you’re from a noble family, well off. I think we may have similar goals in mind and I think we could benefit each other if we were to join forces.” She didn’t want to reveal too much yet, test the waters and see what he said first to her statements. If he was totally disinterested than she would drop it and find someone else. Otherwise, perhaps a drink was in order to discuss things more privately.

Nodding to show he was listening, Nuri made a mental note of the girl's name. As she began to speak of his trials, Nuri resisted the urge to groan. At least she had enough respect to approach him, and didn't seem like one who wanted to gush or get all the dirty details. Instead, she appeared to have a bit of a way with her words, as if she were noble too.

As she continued to speak, his suspicions grew and grew, and he actually took a moment to pause in his steps to look directly at her.

"It is true that I come from the higher end of the Oban class system..." He responded slowly, as her other statement stood out to him. Similar goals? Benefit each other? Join forces?

What exactly was she trying to do in the army?

As he took another long moment to pause, he tried again to connect her name. Almost at once, he realized who she was, or at least who her father was. She was the general's daughter, and she was just as infamous as him. If they weren't talking about his trial, they talked about hers, the girl who turned her back on her queen to become part of the army.

She was legendary.

"I do have time to talk, but I'd rather do it away from the prying ears and wandering eyes of our peers..."

Nuri hadn’t to confirm that he was of higher standing, Karothdra had after all carefully reviewed him before selecting him. She’d had information found and brought to her about him. She had wanted to know him inside and out before proposing to him what she was about to. You could never be too careful her father said, and that’s what she was being now. She did nod to affirm his statement but offered no more than that. he seemed to be analyzing her and she would let him do that, she didn’t mind him coming to his own conclusion as to whom she was exactly.

“I’m glad to hear it,” she gave him a small smile. “Would you mind a short walk to the city gardens?” They couldn’t go to an establishment because all the walls had ears. In the gardens, no one could follow them without making noise, or at least couldn’t get close enough without being spotted either. It was quiet and didn’t have a lot of people walking the winding paths. “I can meet you at the entrance in say, 20 minutes if it suits you. I need to make a short stop somewhere first.” She needed to meet with a spy first to get some intel on another matter.

“Unless you have somewhere else in mind?”

He simply hummed his response, slowly his pace and evaluating his current equipment. He was fine enough to walk, as long as it was indeed short. A long stroll would be a bit much considering he had just finished his training. But then she offered an excuse for him to place his items away, and at least wipe away his sweat.

"Twenty should be long enough...and the gardens are fine...most likely less occupied than here." He still saw a few curious eyes, and suppressed another urge to groan. With that, he nodded to her and moved down his path to his dorm, intent on switching his top, refreshing himself and making sure that Naraka was well situated for the evening. Then, he would easily meet her near the front, likely a few minutes early no matter his leisurely pace.

“Very well then, see you in twenty minutes Nuri.” She gave him a curt nod before moving off in her own direction. Nuri seemed to be receptive and she thought if he went with her plan they would be all very well off. The more people she recruited to her cause the better chance she would have of beating her brother and making sure her father saw her as the true air to his position. Surely even he could see it now that she was his better child; in any case even if he did not see it then she would make him.

Twenty minutes later after meeting with someone else and collecting the information she needed, Karothdra found herself in front of the gardens. She’d been extra early knowing Nuri would want to be early as well and the earlier they go this over the better. Karo was really hoping he would join her; she was sure he’d go far in the military and wanted strong people by her side. Turning to face the gardens, the Oban placed her hands behind her back and observed the few people going in or out of the gardens. They would have just enough privacy from ears.

As Nuri approached the dark-skinned Oban, he was dressed in a more casual top. Stretching a bit as he walked, he nodded to the girl before glancing at the gardens. Considering his standing as well as his focus, he had never really explored such a location, so he was curious as to why the female warrior requested this of all locations. Not being one to voice such thoughts out loud, considering it didn't really matter, he simply waited for her to lead the way in a companionable silence.

He'd take her direction, and wait until she cleared the area for whatever discussion she wished to have.

As soon as Nuri had reached her, Karothdra gave him a simple head nod and moved into the deeper passages of the gardens where the foliage was thicker. She’d slowed her pace when she’d made sure no one was around and clasped her hands behind her back in habit. How did she go about this? She didn’t want to jump in right away and risk scaring him.

“I assume you know who my father is… I also assume that you know that I have an older brother who is vying for my father’s position within the army.” Low scum he was. “I plan on trying for his spot myself and I need supporters. People who want to see new faces within the ranks of generals. They’re all getting old and soon will need to be replaced. One cannot simply jump on the seat however; you need strong people to back you up. I believe you are one of these strong people Nuri, I’ve heard wonderful things about you.” Karothdra paused to take a breath.

“What are your goals within the military?” The Oban gave him a sideways glance.

Had they been anywhere else, Nuri would have been suspicious. However, the belly of the palace gardens was no where for anything unsavory to happen, and so he let his shoulders relax and took in the sights around him. He never lost step behind Karothdra, but he made sure to note each twist and turn they made so he wouldn't grow lost in the overwhelmingly dense foliage compared to the rest of Oba.

As she slowed, he did as well, but he kept silent and let her lead the conversation. There was no need, after all, to push her considering she initiated all of this.

As she spoke, he hummed softly, showing he was listening and that yes, he did know her lineage. It was hard to miss such an impressive family move through the ranks. Yet as she continued, he didn't really react, instead he tried to wrap around what he had just gotten himself into.

Another family war.

He had nothing really to say to her words. He wasn't some influencer, just someone who was dedicated to the cause.

"I...erm..." He stumbled for a moment at her abrupt swerve of attention onto him, before clearing his throat and speaking with a bit more poise, "I plan on moving up in rank until I am able to better influence how we train and treat our partne-our familiars."

He stated with a neutral tone, eyes curious as he looked back at her without any sort of pretense.

The Oban’s eyes narrowed just ever so slightly before she turned and returned to her slow walking pace. It wasn’t exactly the answer she’d been looking for, but certainly not one she didn’t like. His goals were admirable and not really too far off from her larger main goal either. They would need to have strong familiars against whatever else sprouted around their world. Yael was a start, but what else was out there? No one knew and Karothdra wanted to be prepared when something came at them in some future.

“Good goal,” Karothdra finally commented. “What are your thoughts on the current general?” She didn’t really keep up with the familiar affaires in the army, having someone who was knowledgeable with her would be a good asset to have on her side. She was still trying to size him up though; she wanted to know if he had some hidden motives that might interfere with her own. She needed people working on her side, not working against her.

He blinked slowly, taking in her response as well as her question. It was always such a game, even when he was away from his noble roots. To move up in rank meant following orders but rocking the boat enough to be dangerous. So, he took a quick moment to let the words settle in his mouth before he decided to respond.

"At the moment we are confident in our ability with the local familiars, so much so that it tends to leave us with some weakness. We need to take advantage of the open borders and begin taming and training other familiars so we can use them to our advantage and learn how to fight against them."

It was simple, clear, and logical, and so he nodded once to himself before glancing toward her, "Though I doubt you came here to have me discuss the current status of the familiars. What is your goal for this discussion, Karothdra?"

Psst Tasi, this RP is from WAAAY before Yael XD This is when Nuri was Stage 2...so before the second war

“Hm,” Karothdra replied as she listened to Nuri speak about the familiars. So he had spotted a weakness within the army and found a way to remedy it while making the army that much stronger. They weren’t wrong about him when they praised his skill, he would be a very valuable alley if she could coax him to her side. She also kept in mind what he said about the familiars, because he was right, it was a weakness and one she would bring up to her father, perhaps even let Nuri’s name slip too.

“No, I certainly did not,” she smiled. “My father is getting old as you may have noticed and the other officers are looking for his replacement. My father has been trying to mold the eldest in the family to replace him, my brother.” Karothdra scoffed. “The man’s an idiot and doesn’t deserve such an honor. While I may not have the grooming he does, I’ve been playing catch up. My fighting abilities surpass him but I lack the power he does. I need allies, strong ones who will support me when the time comes. I’d like you to be my alley Nuri and I think we can help each other.”

There she’s said it. Hopefully he wasn’t about to turn tail and run off. Overthrowing such an official wasn’t light work or taken easy.
