EXTERMINATION MISSION: CLASSIFIED
Type - CLEANUP

Setting
- Feel free for this mission to make up the zombie massacre scenario. All infected no longer resemble humans, and are black shrunken corpses that walk. They move rather quickly, and have incredible speed despite their rotting flesh, making their origin seem like that of FEAR. If you are using SPECTRE, feel free to use Google Maps or some other application to specify where your characters are. Again, the setting is in your control, within reason. Buildings should be abandoned, but not heavily damaged, roads are mostly in tact. Again, almost all the city is abandoned except for these surges of infected. You can see in the distance closed off fences. You are in the QUARANTINED areas. Please do not get too close to the fences as this is relatively covert, and a Hunter does not want their face plastered all over mass media.

The portal deposited them between buildings in an alley. Standard enough. But the quiet was different. It took Jordan's mind a moment to catch up with his gut feeling that something was seriously wrong and they needed to be on high alert immediately; after a few seconds, though, he realized that while the town wasn't entirely silent, the sound of traffic was completely absent. He stepped clear of the portal, glancing around to check their immediate environs.

The bags of garbage and the dumpsters nearby stunk horrendously, rotting abandoned. Clouds of flies circled and droned, and Jordan suspected that were he to take a closer look he'd find masses of maggots. He was uninclined to take a closer look. Near the opening of the alleyway was a huge splash and stain of dark, dry blood. Just the start, I'm sure, he said to Ferros.

I don't like it in here. It's too narrow, Ferros replied.

We'll be out of the alley in a minute. Got to get our bearings and sketch out a plan first. We're not the expert here, Jordan reminded him. He flipped the black hood of his robe up and made sure it wouldn't fall off easily. Rep had pointed out that not only would the robes make them far less easy to identify if any humans saw them, but that an extra layer of fabric between skin and the stuff the infected dripped was a very good idea. Jordan had taken this advice seriously, and had gotten out his full gloves rather than the fingerless ones. Rep was immune, but he wasn't, and he preferred to avoid the paranoid rage that had overcome him in the mall if at all possible.

It felt good to be heading out on one of these missions with someone with him. In the past it was difficult to bring anyone with him thanks to the confidentiality of the missions themselves and the real danger involved from infection if his companions fell to the infection. Infection was still - as far as he was aware - but he was fairly confident that with their combined strength that this should be fairly straightforward, right now it seemed like a run of the mill cleanup within a quarantine zone. If they could get the jump on this outbreak they could rein it in.

Tracey in his thoughts was excitable, a strange and unfamiliar state for the fallen angel. He was keen to fight alongside Ferros and also excited to get a fresh taste of fear.

Rep straightened out his robe and eyed the alley they were in.

"Seems like a standard cleanup and get the ******** out." Rep said. "We are pretty suited for it with our divisions and weapons, it won't be clean but it'll be quick and that's what we need most. There shouldnae be any spitter types or mutants, mostly walkers at this point." He smirked and it was the only part of his face visible in the shadow cast from the hood.

"If you see them bunching up, break them apart, you've seen what happens when they all ******** twist up together."

"Got it. Anything else I should know?" As he spoke, Jordan was pulling back the left sleeve of the robe just enough to expose the Spectre watch strapped to his wrist over the leather of his glove and tapping the icon that would bring up the map. The soft glow of the projection came up, showing the immediate area layout with the roads and the shapes of the buildings, a single green dot in the alleyway where they stood, and a scatter of red dots, moving erratically on the map. "What do you think, largest current concentration first?"

"Anything else you've already witnessed mostly." he said, before hesitating. "But ok, I suppose like, I should be absolutely clear with you. If they start coming after me we are in deep s**t, and so am I. Like. I mean, you understand the like, confidentiality and clearance of s**t. But I was out on one of these missions when I got my immunity, I got chased by ALL OF THEM. Like that time on the island during the invasion, but the first time they caught me, they were ******** squashing me to death and then there was a hand like, it saved me. I took it and I ended up tied to a chair and they didn't know how I'd survived. I've.. I've heard it since then. I blacked out during the outbreak in the asylum and like, again I heard something, but that voice sounded pissed. I er, the voice, that time I almost died getting chased wasn't the first time I'd heard it."

He looked over in the direction of the blood and started absently setting up his own watch for gps and communications, attaching the tracker to Jordan's signal in case they got separated.

"I jumped into a portal. I was dying. I had these crystals, black ones like, taking root in" he said. "And then I wasn't on the island. I wasn't anywhere. There were people with masks. Gold, Green, White. They said I wasn't good enough. But the last one like. He looked like Ace, but it wasn't Ace. It was someone else. They asked me if I wanted to protect something, I said aye. They saw me and..they didn't hate me. It was blue."

He gave Jordan a concerned look before turning to head out of the alley. "I saw him again on the island, he helped me when you left. Stopped me. I don't know if I'm going crazy, but I thought you should know man." He touched the back of his left hand absently. "Just in case. Because there was someone else on the island too and when she got involved... I don't know what was going on outside me, but it broke everything. She said I was hers already mostly."

He didn't wait for an answer right away, just walked. "Largest concentration sounds good to me." he said, as if he was trying to walk away from the doubts about his own sanity, the things they'd maybe pod him for if they knew.

Jordan listened somberly. These were some of the pieces of the story that he'd been missing, and he quietly put them in place and filed them away. Rep touched the back of his hand, and Jordan brushed his fingers over the place on his own arm where the green mark was hidden under three layers of fabric.

"Was that someone else red?" he asked, low-voiced, and moved after Rep, keeping his footsteps as quiet as he could. "Someone blue asked you if you had something you wanted to protect, and someone green asked me if I wanted knowledge."

He nodded. "Aye. She was." he said. "She was picking at like...a blue chain around me. I don't know what would have happened if it broke. I don't really like to think about it." The streets around them were in a state of disarray, cars parked haphazardly and rubbish strewn about, he checked the watch now and again, following the gathering mass of red dots near one of the open areas, a place which looked like a car park.

He gave Jordan a very concerned look. "Green?" he said, looking concerned. "What did you say?"

PostPosted: Fri Jun 19, 2015 2:18 pm

Jordan shuddered slightly at the thought. "Thank god it didn't. I don't know if we actually drove her off or if she just got tired of having flies buzzing around, in a manner of speaking." As they got closer to the gathering dots, he summoned Ferros, holding the hammer low and ready.

His return glance was both sheepish and defensive. "I didn't actually say anything. He was reading my mind." He sighed. "You saw the green marking on my arm, so you can guess how that went."

Rep had tried like with so many things not to think about the mark on Jordan's arm, to push it out of his mind which was already brimming with so many worries and anxieties but right now he couldn't ignore it. Jordan had been seized by one of the other figures, and not only one of the others but from what he could gather, the one which was in some way tangentially attached to the grail.

"You know like. I think.." he said slowly, summoning Tracey in a swirl of razor edged black and glowing red. "Green is the grail right?"

He gestured to the milling infected which appeared to be gathered around a single car in the lot. "Green is this. I hope we don't like, end up on opposite sides, I hope it can't control you. Because I'm here to fix this s**t."

And breaking into a run, he leapt and drove Tracey right into the backs of the milling crowd.

"I know." Jordan's mouth set in a grim line. "It showed me. Futures, possibilities, as far as I can tell. Some of which none of us want. If I start feeling anything weird, I'll tell you." It was a risk, but there was the possibility, too, that having been recognized and marked by the same influence might slow the onset if it occurred. "It'd be rampant optimism to hope that it'll be helpful."

He swung Ferros back slightly and charged, bringing the hammer around in a sweeping arc that knocked zombies away, flopping like limp dolls. Ferros snarled with satisfaction. It had been a while since they'd had something relatively simple to fight, a problem that could be solved with brute blunt force and slicing razored edges. They hoped quietly that it would remain simple.

Rep didn't ask about the futures, he had a good idea what lay in store for them all if this infection and the other strange happenings around it could not be brought back into check, the decimation of this particular small town was nothing compared to what could and would happen if it spread through the entire world. He tried not to think too hard about what it would be like trying to survive or even find a reason to in a world where Harrison and Jordan were infected.

"Aye, please do. Likewise, if I see anything or hear anything, I'll ******** tell you, even if it's friendly. If I see that red b***h again though, get away from me." He couldn't keep the worry out of his voice though, the idea that Jordan was infested by some sort of power from the grail itself set him on edge more than he could admit, everything he'd done and strove for was to keep Harrison away from that corruption, away from the grail, but now they were sharing a bed with someone who could potentially be some sort of carrier for it all. There was nothing to be done about it but persevere and he tried not to think about it any further, focusing instead on the fight and on the ease with which both of their weapons controlled crowds.

He moved into the crowd where they had backed away from the searing heat of Ferros and cleaved through the crowd. It felt familiar and easy to work with the other man, falling into rank like a hunting lion to take advantage of the intimidation and knockback of the hammer. Tracey in his thoughts was all satisfaction and approval as he went.

"I just worry something big is coming. Something really, really ******** big."

"All right." The mark was something Jordan was ambivalent about at best. He had accepted it, in a way, but refusing it or trying to refuse it could have been its own kind of disaster. He could have avoided the situation entirely, perhaps, but only if he'd declined to investigate the tunnel that had opened for him in the vines. It unsettled him to realize that Creation had already understood enough about him to know that curiosity would be the most effective lure to draw him in. He was the fifth, and he still didn't know who the others were.

The mark was a risk, but the alternative to allowing that risk was to turn himself over to Life Division to be podded or somehow used, and the thought rankled. It was an option he was keeping in mind, but he preferred to keep the option in reserve. Selfish, maybe. But the same drive that had led him to accept the mark in the first place made him reluctant to lock himself into inactivity when he could see no immediate effects and knew so little about what it meant.

Rep and Tracey carved a swath through the crowd of zombies; Jordan circled rapidly to cut off the movement of the swarm away from the axe's blade, swinging Ferros hard into the surge of blackened bodies that had maybe once been human and driving them back to become targets again. They didn't like to think too hard about what, exactly, these creatures had once been. Easier to fall into the give and take of the fight, the satisfying rhythm of cooperation.

"Can't the world ******** stay saved for once?" he replied, only half joking. Then he added, "It implied that this -- " he jerked his chin at the zombie swarm -- "was what happens to normal humans who contact it."

It was very pleasant to have someone to fight alongside, to split the attention of the infected from their normal singular focus on him. It made life easier, splitting the milling crowd and decimating it before it could get a serious fix on them both, already they were whittling the group down bit by bit and Tracey was pleased in his work, normally focused only on the fear and his need for it he was instead paying attention to everything around them and Ferros. It made life easier for Rep, having Tracey warn him when he needed to step out of the way of a swing from the dragon or duck at the last minute, leaving him to focus on keeping the group apart and disoriented.

"That's ******** up." he said, concerned all over again. "If it's ******** knowledge, its s**t that no humans were ever meant to know about. I don't know how good I feel about you having any kind of like, attachment to that things. It ransacks people. Uses them up and makes them like, husks. I don't want you to end up that way because you cannae say no to knowing."

He shook his head. "Never. It's worse than Ace for ending up a damsel in distress, ******** world. It's just a little kid really, just a little helpless ******** kid and we are like those ******** parents who just never realised there wasn't a handbook on saving it."

"Not real enthused about the idea of being used up, either," Jordan admitted. He shook his head briefly. "But I also haven't heard of a way to get it off me. From what it showed me, there may be another hunter with its mark, but I'm being cautious about asking around. I don't like the idea of just turning myself over to get podded or experimented on. I'm not ruling it out, if it -- well. If it gets dangerous." He blew out a rough breath and swiped Ferros at a zombie that was trying to skitter out of range. "Don't want to put you guys in danger either."

"And now we've got all this time an energy investing in keeping it intact, can't just give up on the idiot thing, right." He took a few long strides to block the path towards an alley that several zombies seemed to be trying to get to. "Got a charge. How about we have a bit of a barbecue?" He accompanied the words with a grin.

There were so many worries around lately, and nothing to be done about any of it Rep realised. He'd been repressing so much and the sheer amount he wasn't actually dealing with was getting fairly critical fairly quickly. Still, he didn't have time to dwell on it here either. "Aye, we've got no ******** idea what to do with any of it, and from what I gather even Death isn't really too sure. Cael knows something obviously, but he's no saying what. He seemed to think that I'd bound myself to something, a legacy or something, probably confirms what's happened to you too. I just hope when or if we do something about it, you don't get hurt either." Things could never just leave them alone.

"It's pretty horrible to think we've ******** adopted a planet. That's a lot of effort to take care of."

Rep lowered Tracey briefly and made a flourish with his hand at the crowd.

"Go right ahead. I like the smell of burnt flesh in the morning."
