IC

Ming'we was hard pressed lately to find Alkidike in the village who were willing to speak to her or even acknowledge her in some cases. So it came as a surprise when an Alkidike seeming to be only a couple years older than Ming'we started to talk to her and try to befriend her.

She was good company, and would laugh and joke and seemed to be at ease with the hybrid. One day her new friend invited her to go exploring. She would lead the way and Ming'we had nothing to worry about.

Quest Tasks
||. The quest should begin with Ming'we meeting and making friends with the Alkidike.
||. She will eventually suggest going out exploring with Ming'we.
||. When Ming'we follows, she will be confronted by a group of Alkidike extremists, with her new "friend" in tow.
||. The friend she thought she had made was just luring her into a trap. She will make a point to ridicule Min'we and say something along the lines of "Why would I ever want to be friends with a disgusting mongrel like you?"
||. Ming'we will not be able to fight back all of them. She may choose to run, or will end up losing to the extremists and being injured (how severely is up to the owner).
||. The quest should end with Ming'we's reflections on what just happened and her thoughts on her hybrid status, the betrayal, and her gullibility.

It was one of those days. Ming'we was out on her own yet again. Her mother and her grandmother were huddled together in the house working on something secret, she hadn't figured out just what it was, and her brother.. well he was absent once more. Her twin had drifted apart from her since the move to Jauhar. It made her wonder if perhaps she should tell him of her plans to return to Sauti. Maybe he would want to go with her.

She took a deep breath and looked around. As usual others were avoiding her. Pure Alkidikes seemed to regard her as a disease and the earthlings thought she wanted to hurt them; siding with her amazon heritage. Ming shook her head and lowered her eyes down to the ground. It was depressing enough to think about the rift between her and her brother, adding in the wide canyon that stood between her and any other relationships was simply asking for pain.

Not too long after she brought her eyes down to watch the ground as she walked she was bumped into. The blonde gave a small squeak and stepped to the side as she looked up to see who it was that had been so careless. What surprised her was that it was a full Alkidike that seemed like she was only a few years older than her. “Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going.” Ming'we thought that she had better utter her apology right away unless she wanted to have a conflict with her. “Nah, it was my fault. I thought I had enough room to get by.” The Alkidike chuckled before she held out her hand. “I'm Bati.”

The hybrid wasn't sure what was going to cause her to faint more. The fact that an Alkidike hadn't sneered at her and blamed her for something or the fact that she was introducing herself in a friendly manner. There was even a moment where she thought that there might be something wrong mentally with the girl. Ming reached out and took the hand easily as she gave her name as well. “I'm Ming'we.” A rather large grin broke out as the idea of making another friend crept into her mind. It was exciting to think that she would be able to invite another Alkidike to her home so that her mother could see that her daughter wasn't as lonely as she thought.

“Hey Ming'we you wanna get something to eat and hang out for a while? I can make up for bumping into you.” The older girl gave a grin of her own, though there was a hidden meaning behind it that Ming couldn't see.

Being asked to grab a bite to eat and everything made the blonde happy so she nodded her head and agreed. “Yea, that sounds great. Have you tried roasted sweet potatoes?” Ming'we gave the suggestion casually, though she really did love the food. It was even better when one added sugar to it. If things went well then she would show this possibly new friend the secret to the delicious snack. “No, I've not. Are they good?” When the question was posed Ming nodded her head emphatically. Taking her new found friend's hand she led the way to a local vendor that sold the treat.

Mere moments later she was handing a steaming sweet potato to Bati. “Here, and if you add sugar to every bite it's five times better.” As the Alkidike took the snack that was given to her she gave a nod of her head then took a small bite, mindful of the heat. The hybrid gave a small giggle then took a bite of her own treat, though she added a pinch of sugar to hers before hand. Ming'we made a delighted noise as the taste of the sweet potato hi her tongue. “So good!” Bati gave a nod of her head in agreement as she finished up her bite. "It really is, thank you."

With everything going so well Ming'we was sure that she and Bat would become very close friends. After all, she was so nice! The two walked a ways as they ate their snacks, chatting about this and that, then finally settled on a fallen log. “You have to teach me archery, Ming'we.” The thought made the blonde turn bright colored in the cheeks. “I'm not really that good, but I can show you the basics. I'm sure you'd be great at it.” The two girls laughed together then finished up their sweet potatoes. Once their small meals were done Bati got to her feet and grinned down at Ming'we before she held out her hand. “Come on! I know just the place to practice! There won't be anyone around so won't have to worry about shooting someone on accident.” She said it so casually, in such a friendly manner, that Ming never once thought that she was being tricked. The hybrid reached out and took Bati's hand so that she could stand up and eventually follow her to this secret spot that the Alkidike seemed to know about.

They seemed to be walking for a long time and Ming'we was looking around trying to figure out where they were. “Hey, uhm Bati, are we lost?” Maybe her new friend had forgotten the way to this spot and they were now just wandering around. It was certainly a possibility. Not that she would blame the girl if that was what had happened. “Nah, we're just about there.” With the reassurances from the girl she nodded her head but Ming was still a bit unsure.

Not long after Bati spoke she seemed to slow down and let go of Ming'we's hand only to turn around and sneer at her. The hybrid frowned when she saw that look. She knew that expression. It wasn't a nice one. “Bati?” She questioned.

The Alkidike brought her hand up and slapped Ming hard on the cheek. “I can't believe you thought I was really your friend.” Bati gave a cruel laugh and turned her head just as others came into view. Ming'we felt tears stinging at her eyes but the thing that bothered her more was that she was in the middle of the forest with a bunch of Alkidikes that looked like they wanted to kill her. “Why would I lower myself to your level, mutt?” The insult didn't seem like much but it did make Ming feel uncomfortable.

“The earthling blood really does make them weak.” Another one of the females spoke up and the group nodded in agreement. “Stupid mongrel that you are actually believed I would be nice to you.” Bati gave a scoff and a roll of her eyes before she reached out and grabbed Ming'we by her hair.

Ming gave a small cry and did her best to pull away but the pressure on her scalp hurt, so she settled for grabbing Bati's wrist in an attempt to lessen her grip. “Let go please.” Even though she was being bullied she was polite. She told herself over and over again that these girls were just doing as they were raised to. If they knew another way surely they would be nicer.

“She dares to touch a sister so casually!” The hostile voice came from the oldest of the group. “I heard that she was even seen kissing one of our sisters.” That made Ming'we turn a bright red with embarrassment. The hybrid shook her head and pulled at Bati's wrist to get her to let go. “Please, just leave me be.”

The knowledge that Ming had been caught kissing on of their own made each of the Alkidike's angry. There were collective murmurs of hate and disbelief until finally Bati released her hair so that she could strike Ming'we in the face once more. The slap echoed through the trees and it was like a starting bell for the others. The blonde hybrid tried to back away from them though she didn't speak any more. She knew that trying to plead her case would only make things worse.

When it looked like she had no other choice; it was fight or flight, she went for flight. Ming'we turned and took off at a run. She was hoping that she could at least evade them long enough to find a place to hide. Or maybe even to find a weapon she could use. Without a bow or crossbow she was useless in a fight. Hand to hand wasn't her forte. She had slender arms and truly no brute strength to speak of. With the shorter legs of the earthlings she was slower than she would have liked.

Because of this slowness she was easily overtaken by the eldest Alkidike that was after her. The mean girl gripped Ming by her antennae and yanked her back with such force that Ming'we let out a scream of pain. She landed on her back but her hands went to her head. The throbbing pain there was enough to make her want to give up but as more hands came down at her she kicked and flailed as she screamed at them to leave her alone. She wasn't about to go down without a fight, even if her fight was pitiful.

So many blows landed that she'd lost count, and really couldn't find an inch of herself that wasn't in pain, but she still did her best to strike back. One of the girls grabbed her arms and hauled her backwards, dislocating her arms with the sudden pull. Ming'we was in so much pain that she was sure she was going to die right there in the woods. No one would know what happened to her. Bati came at her fast and hit her hard with a left to the side of the head just as another kicked her hard in the ribs.

Ming'we's vision started to swim and she let her body go limp. It didn't do much to deter the others as they kept hitting and kicking her. Only when Bati struck her in the face, this time splitting her skin and causing blood to drip, did they back off. There was a satisfaction that went through the group, each looking at her and giving a triumphant sneer before they spit at her and backed away. “Throw her into the ravine.” Bati said as she pushed Ming with her foot. Two of the girls moved and grabbed her roughly by the arms and legs.

They lifted her body and gave a bit of a swing before the let go and watched her sail over the hill, hit the ground, then roll the rest of the way down into the muddy water at the bottom. Ming'we didn't dare move. She didn't want them to come down the hill to finish the job. It wasn't long before she heard the group walk away, merriment filling their voices as they spoke about ridding Tendaji of filth like her.

She broke down in tears and shook as sobs came from her. Ming'we couldn't move properly. Limbs had been dislocated and other parts of her were so badly bruised and swollen. Still she felt a wave of gratitude toward the winds of Sauti that none of them had thought to check and see if she still lived.

Moments after she let out her sobs she heard the sounds of someone approaching and panicked. “N-no..no..” Ming shook with fear thinking one of the Alkidike's came back since they heard her. “No..” When a hand came to rest on her shoulder she flinched, trying to move and get away. “Shhh, shh, it's alright child. We're not here to hurt you.” The voice came from a woman but Ming didn't seem to relax. She could be tricked again. “Jaethin, get over here and help me lift her. Are they gone?” She seemed to be speaking to someone else but Ming couldn't see who. All she could tell was that their footsteps were heavy.

She made another noise and the woman shushed her again. “Easy. My name is Kalris, Jaethin is my husband. We saw what happened but didn't dare interfere. I am so sorry we couldn't help you.” When the male was close the woman moved around to be in front of Ming's line of vision. What made her tear up even more was that the woman was a shifter. Her skin was light and beautiful in the glow of the forest. “Pl-please don't k-kill me...” The hybrid had learned from experience that even the shifters weren't fond of her.

Kalris looked toward her husband, the man Ming couldn't see, and gave a sorrowful expression. The man must have understood because he spoke up. “We won't harm you, after all, our daughter is also part wind tribe.” After he spoke he moved his arms to be under her and she gave a small cry of pain as her body was moved. Kalris winced for her and stood up as her husband lifted the girl. “Where is your family? We'll take you home.” She asked.

“A-Andile..” Was all she was able to say. Ming'we felt so vulnerable. Thinking back on everything that had happened she wondered if she had asked for the punishment since she had been so willing to look past obvious things in order to gain a friend. Alkidike's had never been particularly nice to her. There was only the one that she had met so far. Did one really fix the evils of the others?

She closed her eyes against the pain, the reality of what just happened, but it didn't make it any less true. Ming broke down into tears and even though it hurt she couldn't help the shaking her body did. The hybrid had been sure she would die there. Now it was a Sauti that held her in his arms and walked with her to take her back to her mother. Her life had been better in Sauti. The earthlings there hadn't treated her the way so many shifters had in Jauhar. And she certainly never had to worry about dying at the hands of her mother's people.

Yes, the Alkidike were not her people. Aisha had turned her back and allowed her daughters to almost kill Ming. She couldn't see herself going to see the mother of the Alkidikes anymore. She would no longer be a hybrid. No longer would she say she was half Amazon. She was a Sauti, a member of the wind tribe and no other. She would trust no one anymore. Well, maybe not no one, as she did trust her mother, her brother, and the true friends that she knew she had. Such as Callum and she hoped.. Isolder.

Leaving with him would be what was best for her. Of course now she wondered just how she was going to be able to travel since she was practically crippled. At least for now. As her thoughts carried on she slowly lost consciousness but before the darkness took over and wrapped her in loving arms Ming'we was determined that she would no longer believe the best in everyone.
