Zakiax entered the Stadium. The Crobat which he would be using for this match was on his head, like it always was. Zak had grown used to the large bat resting on his head.

"I think that's our opponent," said Emalthya to Pheonix, gesturing at the trainer with the crobat head accessory. It moved suddenly and Emalthya jumped into her Charizard and clung there. "It's real! It's real! I have never seen a crobat small enough to fit on someone's head! They're usually bigger than I am!"
Pheonix patted his trainer gently on the shoulder while she tried to stop herself freaking out. Honestly it wasn't so odd; he himself was quite a bit larger than your usual charizard, especially one raised by a human. How else could a grown person ride him? Though, considering he chose where to go, he thought of it more like he was giving them a lift. He smiled a little at his lame joke.
Emalthya smiled at Zak as they approached and tried not to stare at the crobat. "Hello," she said in a wobbly voice.

Pheonix took to the air above the stadium and sized up his opponent. Small, would be a difficult target. He'd do his best.
"Pheonix, try a heat wave attack!"
Pheonix heard his trainer's instructions and obeyed, exhaling a cloud of flame.

Zue took his place in the Stadium. With his wings now out he was not that much smaller then an normal Crobat, however he wasn't as heavy as one, as it seemed like his body was quite smaller for his wing span.
Zak gave a bit of a wave back to his opponents 'hello' but now his mind was set upon the battle.This would be their first charizard he and any of his team had gone up against, aside from his own in training. Zue was hit with the wave of fire "Zue, lets try to confuse them with Confuse Ray"
The bat gave a soft screech acknowledging the command and then performed the attack, sending a ray of light towards the Charizard attempting to confuse it.

((Crobat are normally 1.8m tall and 75 kilos, even if that's wings, that's a very heavy hat))
The ray of odd light hit Pheonix and he roared as a sudden pain split his head and everything went out of focus before snapping back.
"Confusion," groaned Emalthya. "Ugh, I hate status conditions. Well we'll bull through, like always." She sized up her opponent and then looked at Pheonix, wobbling a little in the air. "Well, try Dragon Claw, then, Pheonix!"
Pheonix heard an odd voice call out to him- was that his trainer? It... sort of sounded like her? Fine, then. He drew his claws out and dived at the slightly fuzzy shape of Zue.

Pheonix overshot- the mirage of Zue wasn't Zue at all! He ploughed into the stadium floor. The blow woke him up and he took back to the air in readiness for the next attack.

Zue's fangs began to drip with poison as he aimed to bite into the charizard, trying to poison him.

Pheonix batted the pokemon away with his wing. He remembered the first time he had been poisoned, all those long long battles ago, against a nidoran. He remembered Emalthya picking him up and running to the Pokemon Centre and how frightened she had been. He did not like being poisoned.
"Heat wave, Pheonix!" cried Emalthya. "Earthquake won't work, and solarbeam won't be effective against a poison flying type!"
Pheonix released a roiling mass of flames upon Zue.

"Zue use Air Cutter" Zak called out after his friend had gotten hit once more with the flames. At least they hadn't decided to use either Rock Slide or Ancient Power against them. Both moves were moves a charizard could learn, both were rock moves and both were super effective against Zue.
The bat gave a soft screech and shook himself off before sending slices of air towards the fire/flying type.

"We're back to even," called Emalthya. "Use another heatwave, if we can tire him out, he might slow down so you can use dragon claw!"
Pheonix shook off the flying type attack, wheeled around and blew out another roiling cloud of flames.

The bat began to tell a story to the charizard about how he lived with a Kingdra that hated all flying types but was surrounded by flying types in Zak's party.

Pheonix was enraptured by the story, despite trying to ignore the crobat.
"Pheonix, use heat wave again!"
He shook his head, but he still couldn't quite concentrate. He blew out flames.

Zue was hit by the attack however it didn't do much damage to him. Zue flapped his wings hard creating slices of wind which he sent towards the charizard.

Pheonix turned his head away to protect his eyes from the slashing wind. He felt his wings raked by the air.
"Pheonix, dragon claw!" cried Emalthya. This was not going the way she wanted it to.

((I have read the rules over and over and not seen any reference at all to lowering the attack of the other pokemon by any amount, only raising your own attack and lowering the opponent's defense. Could you please link me or be more specific?))
