Xerxes was certain that this was the place that he had been told that he could meet up with his sister. He had listened carefully to his parents when they were telling him the directions but somehow there was a slight, ever so slight, chance that he had misheard a step. The stallion sighed and turned around again in the clearing that he found himself in. Just where was Xandra? Exhaling deeply Xerxes shook his mane in an attempt to have the curled lengths rest nicely against his neck before continuing. The sun would not stay in the same place for long and Xerxes would rather prefer to either be in his sister's company or back with his parents before the sun dipped below the horizon, heralding the beginning of night.

Xandra had been wandering for a while, having separated from her parents and her siblings not long after reaching adulthood, oh she visited, she loved her family, but the wisps that floated around her just urged her to follow them. She didn't mind where they led her, it was usually somewhere new and beautiful. However today she had planned to meet up with her brother Xerxes, but not for the first time, Xandra had allowed herself to get distracted and ended up being late. She didn't often fly around, preferring her own four hooves on the ground but she didn't want to keep her brother waiting so she spread out her four wings and headed straight for the meeting place, landing behind her brother, almost silently. "My apologies brother dear, I was lead astray once again" she said with a chuckle.

There was a moment when Xerxes had almost walked out of the clearing but the stallion paused and inhaled deeply. To leave and continue wandering would mean the chance of getting lost and running into something that would for surely view him as food. No it was better to remain where he was. The stallion often thought of running into something that would want to do him harm. No matter what tactic he tried that lingering doubt always came back full force. Closing his eyes at night always meant a restless sleep in which he dreamed of the terrors lurking just beyond his vision, ready to pounce.

At first Xerxes didn't even hear his sister's approach. However the shadow that she cast on the ground from coming in overhead brought his attention to the present and he gave Xandra a tremulous smile before nuzzling her flank.
"What was it this time that led you astray?"

Xerxes was glad for her arrival. He had begun to panic that he had the wrong clearing. Realizing that Xandra was here and only running late meant that he had come to the right place after all and had not gotten lost.

Xandra felt her brother's nerves as she landed and her heart felt heavy, he shouldn't live with the fear, he should be free and innocent. "My spirits again" she explained, gesturing the floating wispy orbs that floated around both of them, "they wanted me to see something and made me forget for a moment" she added, moving close to him and giving him a reassuring nuzzle, bringing her body towards him, wings outstretched and draped them over his back, hoping he would draw some comfort and peace of mind from her presence.

Xerxes willed his heart rate to slow at Xandra's touch. His sister would never harm him so why were his hackles up? Trembling less and less Xerxes took the time to observe the ors that floated around her before sighing in relief. At least nothing had happened to her or himself this time. "It is good to see you again sister. All this time apart from each other isn't healthy for siblings. I mean I hardly ever see you or Saxon anymore."

Xerxes paused for a moment before realizing the reason behind that before hanging his head. His next words came out in a mumbling rush,
"althoughperhapsthatismyfault."

He was constantly ashamed of his fear of everything. The stallion knew that he brought shame to their parents too. They were just too kind to admit that out of their children he was the failure, their black sheep so to say. Why hadn't he been born with a backbone?

Xandra gently leaned against her brother, she knew he had somewhat unreasonable fears but at the same time they were reasonable, to someone who had been a victim of said fears in the first place however she was not one to judge, she loved her brother dearly, 'faults' and all. "I have met some in my travels who have never been back to their families" she commented, her voice going low, it was upsetting to know that there were those out there that didn't have the love that her family did.

When Xerxes said his next, rushed/mumbled sentence Xandra huffed, "It is NOT your fault that we travel" she said with a small stamp of the hoof. "Xerxes, I travel because my spirits lead me, not because you have done anything wrong, you are my brother and I love you very dearly, so do mother and father and so does Saxon" she leaned against him again, pulling him towards her with the wings that were laid against his back, her version of a hug.

Xerxes froze at his sister's words. If she said it wasn't his fault, then why did a little voice inside keep clamoring that it was? He wasn't sure when he had started really listening to that doubtful voice in his mind but it seemed the more he was alone that the stronger it was. At feeling his sister's hug though Xerxes knew that she was right. It was not his fault that his siblings were never around. Xandra spoke some sense that finally trickled into his mind. With a heavy sigh the stallion leaned into Xandra's flank enjoying the closeness one can only feel with a sibling. Although he quickly stiffened at the thought of anyone seeing him being affectionate towards his sister. Xerxes gave a nervous chuckle before pulling out of the hug to observe his sister's floating orbs with a hint of mistrust. "Do you always follow where they lead you Xandra?"

Xerxes had his own little "spirits" if he wanted to use his sister's word for them. However it had been a long time since he had actually wanted to see the little balls of flame that where his constant companions. Eventually he pretended that they weren't around. Even if they were helpful at night, their eerie flickering light caused him to be terrified.
