Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

With Allan's speech and the poses that the Sun division lead and Gilgamesh struck under the rising morning sun against the grassy backdrop of the training field still deeply imprinted in his mind from the meeting that was held the other day, Kyle figured that a visit to the training courses was in order so that he could hone his skills and better serve the role required of those in his division.
Arriving at the one that was meant for Sun hunters, he sat through the instructions that were given by the senior hunter who was on duty, only half paying attention to what was being said as he studied the tunnel in question and the shadowlings that flanked its walls from the course observation booth that he was currently at. So this was going to entail him running from one end to the other while fending off those creatures. This ought to be fun.
Stepping through the portal, he summoned Semaj and psyched himself for what was to come.

Well, meeting the division leaders had certainly been...enlightening, for lack of a better word. But at least Chance now knew what to expect from them, and from others in the division. In away, he was rather pleased that he'd gotten to go to the meeting, because he'd gotten a good feel for the scope and size of it, as well as a general observation of the other Sun Hunters.
Maybe if he was lucky he'd get to see Gilgamesh's fine abs again.
Chance slipped through the portal of the Sun Run to the other side, his bow in hand, one end of it dragging along the floor and making a metallic screeching sort of sound. There was someone else already in the portal - he was vaguely familiar, and after a moment, Chance realized that he was one of the new trainees at the meeting.
"Hey," he said cheerfully, walking up to him and giving a little wave in greeting, Chance resting his bow across his shoulders. "You in for a run too? Wanna head on through together?"

Kyle turned when he heard someone call out to him, the tension in his neck and shoulders easing up a little as he lowered the shuriken that was Semaj to smile at Chance whom he remembered running into at the division meeting. "Hi Chance."
He lifted his other hand to return the greeting in kind, nodding in agreement to the other hunter's proposal to attempt the course together. "Yeah. Pretty sure there's enough room for the both of us in there." He laughed, curiosity lighting up his gaze next at the icy blue longbow that Chance was carrying with him. "I suppose that I should cover those that come in too close since your weapon's a ranged type?"

"Good to know," said Chance airily, casting a glance around them as he pulled an arrow from thin air to notch in the wire of his bow. There were tiny eyes staring at them from all directions, soft scratching noises and black smears against the actual shadows as they moved. "And yeah, although I'm still getting used to the whole long-ranged thing, sometimes it's definitely not helpful when you have a bow and you're fighting against someone with like, a knife."
A few of the shadowlings leapt forward, snapping and snarling, and Chance fired off a few quick shots, eyes narrowed in the darkness.Status Wave: 1Attack Dmg: 3 Total Shadowlings taken out: 3 Recoveries left: 1

Kyle watched the shadowlings warily, ready to make his move the moment one of them tried to come within range. "Yeah. That's when you either have to pick your opponent off before he even reaches you or hope that something can help keep him off your back till you get more distance between the both of you." He quipped, striking out with the shuriken the moment he saw a few of them going after Chance.
In his haste to rush to the other Sun's aid, he accidentally tripped on his own feet and fell and the shadowlings were all over him in an instant.

"Ugh... get off me!"
The number of shadowlings that were trying to swarm and overwhelm Kyle was creeping him out. He flailed and swung Semaj around like a mad man, doing everything avail to him so long as something worked to help get the creatures off him. His frantic efforts worked oddly enough in his favour, allowing him to take out some of them while the remaining shadowlings scattered momentarily back to the safety of the darkness whence they came from to bide their time for the next wave.
"That was... ... harrowing."

He laughed. "Yes, an excellent strategy," said Chance, casting a smile over at Kyle. "Get rid of your opponent before they even see you, and everything will be good, right? Kind of like...a sniper archer, though I haven't ever heard of those."
Several of the shadowlings snapped at him, gnashing tiny, sharp teeth, and Chance was aware of Kyle swinging around off to the side of his peripheral vision. They swarmed forward again, nipping and shrieking, and then ebbed away a little, Chance smacking one of them on the top of its head.
"You doing okay?" he asked, eyebrows raised.Status Wave: 2Attack Dmg: 2 Total Shadowlings taken out: 5 Recoveries left: 1

"It's the best strategy since you can down your target while remaining unscathed. A melee fighter's worst nightmare." Kyle aimed a kick at a few of the shadowlings that decided to try their luck with him, chuckling when Chance came up with the term 'sniper archer' in line with the conversation that the both of them were having. "You could be the first one, Mister Sniper Archer." He laughed again, swinging the shuriken in a wide arc to clear some more ground before answering.
"Yeah. How are you holding up on your end?"

"I was told that your weapon changes over time, as the bond strengthens between the two of you," said Chance, drawing another arrow into existence and notching it against the wire. "I think that's why Asher now has blades along the bow, so I've been trying to figure out if I can learn to use it as a closer combat weapon, as well as long-distance."
Asher thrummed in agreement for this idea. Chance fired off another few arrows and laughed.

"Oh?" Kyle quirked a brow. He remembered both Chance and Jordan talking briefly about that back at the division meeting. Unable to contain his own curiosity, he turned to look at the other Sun, whistling appreciatively at the sight of the change to the bow that was described in brief to him. "That's a really nice addition. It's like your weapon's trying to compensate somewhat for what it lacks so that the enemy can't exploit that weakness forever."
If weapons could change like that, he really really hoped that Semaj didn't decide to sprout a p***s somewhere given the incubus' nature. < Heads up! > He heard Semaj call out to him in warning but it was already too late, the swarm of shadowlings all over him before he could even move to defend himself in his semi-distracted state of mind.

< I heard what you were thinking Kyle. You are stupid and disgusting. >
Kyle didn't know if he should laugh or cry at that. Maybe he was giving his weapon far less credit than he was worth. Resolving to apologise properly to Semaj later, he thanked the hunter who had pulled him out and patched him up, determined to try to catch up to Chance as he cut his way through a small group of Shadowlings. "Indeed. Just got run over by a million of them so I'm going to have to start over."

"Yeah, that's what I like to think of it as," said Chance, taking a few cautious steps forward. "I think the deeper a bond you have with a weapon, the more that it tries to adapt to make it easier to wield, kinda like how we as humans basically have to adapt to survive."
He turned around to doublecheck that Kyle was all right, only to see him disappear under a wave of shadowlings. He reappeared a few seconds later, looking a little worse for the wear, but Chance just gave him an easy smile.
"No worries," he said mildly, pulling back the bowstring, eyes narrowing at his target - a mass of the little black things just ahead. "It's kind of a jungle in here, easy to get overwhelmed."
Even as he said this, he was being pelted by the creatures. Chance kicked out in annoyance and flipped the bow around, gritting his teeth.
"Good grief, these things are a menace."Status Wave: 4Attack Dmg: 0 Total Shadowlings taken out: 8 Recoveries left: 1 - USING

"A deeper bond huh?"
Kyle started to look thoughtful at that. Shouldn't it already be a given since their weapons were privy to all their thoughts and actions?
"How do you do that?"
Seeing that Chance was looking back to check on how he was doing, he smiled back and lifted a hand to give him a thumbs up sign. He was more cautious this time, his grip on the shuriken tighter as he struck out at the shadowlings that were in his way. If this was an open space, he supposed that he could toss Semaj out to clear himself a path but he didn't want to lose his weapon or a couple of fingers in the process since he wasn't that adapt at wielding his weapon at this point yet.
"Yeah. It's like an infestation. Just whittling their numbers down like this ain't gonna do s**t till you get to the source."

He gave a hum of thought and considered this.
"I suppose it's about...learning to be symbiotic with them," said Chance, smacking the side of his bow against one of the shadowlings. "I've heard of a few people who don't get along with their weapons, and it's a struggle to work together as a team. I'm fortunate; Asher is a delight to have, so we work really well together."
He hadn't strung any arrows this time; instead, Chance had gripped the bow by the handle, swinging it in a wide arc and sending several creatures flying.
