Cael had decided, since they were near this big stadium, that maybe he should teach Kite to battle. The young trainer looked down at his even younger riolu. "Kite! You need to try harder this time!"
The puppy looked up, it's back paw halfway to it's ear, expectantly.
Sigh.

Pheonix landed with a thump outside the stadium and yawned. It was refreshing to wake up and have a quick flight around the surrounds. He noticed another trainer and his pokemon and approached in a friendly way.
He was very aware that he was quite scary to look at, but he might as well meet some people while his trainer toiled up by foot to the stadium from their camp. He could see her, hair still in the plait she had slept in, backpack forcing her into an ungainly hunched stance. He called out to her, but if she responded he did not hear.

Cael's eyes widened as the large fiery Pokemon approached. Was this going to be their opponent? He hoped not! He knew this species for a change - it was a fully evolved pokemon traditionally bred as guardians in Kanto. They were supposed to be really strong! It looked kinda nice, though...? Bark bark bark! Kite rushed out to the approaching pokemon. How was it going to stop at that speed? <"Fight, bark, bite?!?> Kite yapped, careening towards the charizard. "Kite, no!" D:

Pheonix lowered his head so it was closer to Kite's and exhaled a burst of charizard morning-breath over the riolu.
Emalthya staggered up to Pheonix, dropped her backpack and put her arm up to brace herself against Pheonix's shoulder. "I miss the sea," she said hoarsely, wishing she could have had exercise in the form of a swim, not a hike. She noticed Kite and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. "Hello."

The combo of sulfur and lizard lungs fascinated the young riolu, and Kite stretched up to try and sniff the charizard's muzzle. Cael tried to pull Kite back, and looked apologetically up at the hoarse voiced lady. "Sorry! I'm still trying to train it! It's still a puppy and keeps getting into trouble..." He pouted at the squirming baby Pokemon and received a paw to the nose.

"Awww, he's so cute," said Emalthya after clearing her throat. "Remember when you were that young, Pheonix?"
Pheonix grinned and shook his head. He had never been that young!
"I'm Emalthya and this is Pheonix," said Emalthya. "He won't have much trouble with Pheonix. He's really calm." She paused for a long moment. "Normally," she amended reluctantly. "Anyway, care to battle? Your boy probably just has a bit of energy to burn off. We could do with some exercise."

((Sorry this is taking so long, I'm trying to rush into the battle part with this post since I'm almost falling asleep! ^^')) "I'm Cael, and this is Kite!" He hefted the riolu and grinned, proud of his pokemon despite it's childish behavior. "That would be great, thank you! I battled here ...ugh.... on accident a few days ago, I think I remember how to sign up." Cael checked in and walked toward the trainer box. Kite swiped playfully at Pheonix as they passed. As soon as Kite was set down on the field, he rushed at the charizard, tongue lolling to the side. 900/900 HP

((Np ^^ I don't mind getting into the nitty-gritty tomorrow morning before work ^^ I'm a bit sleepy, too ^^ Gosh, okay, how much hp does Pheonix have? Ack!))
Pheonix watched the fluffball hurtle at him and took the blow in the belly. He rubbed the sore spot idly and stomped hard enough to make the ground shake.
900/1000 HP
((I think here's a type-o with the rules when it says 1 is a 'hits' I think it might mean 'miss' because they don't say about any damage and there's the possibility of a miss. What do you think?))

((Ah, you're right, I didn't notice! I'm sure "hits" was intended to me "miss" in that case, since most moves used that same setup for accuracy. I'll mention it to Qix? That sounds fine with me. This is such a paltry post, I think I'm about done for the night. ^^ )) Kite tumbled, but leapt back up still mostly full of energy, and tried to doge around the larger pokemon. The riolu batted at the larger pokemon's tail, it's own wagging. 800/900hp

"Kite! Try double team! Don't get hit!" Cael called, experimentally. The puppy didn't seem to listen. Kite just bounced back from the tail blow and continued bowing and bouncing and batting at the large lax lizard... What that, quick attack? Or maybe Feint? Cael looked over at the opposing trainer in embarrassed apology. 700/900 hp

Pheonix stood and tried to move outside Kite's range without stomping on him and tripped over him, causing a bit more damage than he would have liked to have admitted. "The bigger they are, the harder they fall," said Emalthya equably. "He looks like he could run around some more, Pheonix, try an aerial fire blast in a maze shape." Pheonix immediately took off into the air and expelled blisteringly hot fire from his mouth. In most cases, fire blast was an earth-scorching attack, leaving very little but charred and barren ground in its wake, but Pheonix was highly trained and moved his fire with precision as he flew. HP: 600/1000

"Wow!" Cael gasped. The dragonite's* control was amazing! The flames neatly trapped his little pokemon in a loose tangle of uncharred paths. Kite hunkered instinctively when the precise streams of fire states flowing, and was sooty but unharmed. "Kite, Jump!" the pale haired trainer called. The little pokemon hopped in place once, unsure. "Nooo, JUMP!" Cael demonstrated, leaping with one fist held up in a super hero pose. Kite perked up, yippin a quick <"Jump!> as it made an impressive attempt as Sky Uppercut (for a baby pokemon)----- and missed. ((*one of Cael's quirks is supposed to be really incorrect pokemon triva, sorry!)) 700/900 hp
