Zinnia and Zebo entered the stadium happily. They'd been getting back into battling lately, and besides the extra income (which was most certainly welcome), they were once again having the time of their lives. Not only were they able to live in the city worry-free, but the excitement of battle was healthy. They were becoming stronger and more confident in themselves, and that was all to the good.
"Ready when you are!" Zinnia called across the stadium to her opponent, while Zebo leaped lightly to his place on the field.

There wasn't immediately any response from the other trainer box. Maybe the trainer was late?
Tik tik tik tik- the skitter of claws on flooring echoed across the field. But still no trainer. The skittering grew louder. There was a scrape and a thump as a young Riolu tumbled into the trainer box. It flung itself up to look out over the railing, and practically sparkled all over when it saw the red liepard already on the field. It bound over the railing and half flew, half fell into (roughly) the right place on the stadium for it, yapping excitedly.
Cael skidded around a corner. "Kite?" he called, fumbling with the papers he'd been handed as he chased his pokemon into the large building. He listened, and followed the incoherent puppy babble, arriving in time to see the black and white tail slip out of view.
He looked out at the arena, at the confident looking trainer and pokemon, at his baby pokemon, and at the mystery papers (which said, he read now, "Welcome, Challenger!!!!" in bold, exciting font) and was -very- worried.
The young trainer waved, pulling at his collar, which suddenly seemed overly warm, and put on as bright an expression as he could manage. "H-hello! "

((You get to go first! c: )) "Hi!" Zin called back. "I'm Zin, and this is Zebo! It's nice to meet you! Your Riolu is really cute!" She waved jovially while the liepard paced impatiently below. Her opponent looked young (though the teenager was young herself), so she hoped that they could be friends rather than just opponents. "(I hope you know how to battle, kid,)" Zebo said the the rambunctious Kite.

((edit: oops, sorry! I didn't wait for your response, I'll add a reply to it now! / Edit edit: Ok, done!)) Cael smiled back, slightly less nervous. This accidental stadium battle might not be so bad? "I''m Cael! Thank you! -and your pokemon is...uh-" he paused, considering, but said it anyway, "-cute too!" He studied the red creature below. It was... a lot bigger than Kite. He didn't know enough about the species to recognize that "red" wasn't the normal color for the thing. His old textbooks were very out of date. The riolu rearranged all it's limbs into a standing position with a bounce, and took off towards the opponent. <"Battle..?> it's face scrunched up, thinking hard.. Battle... meant play, right? <"Play!"> Kite yipped in response. <"With every paw! Bark, bark yes!!!"> The puppy hurled itself with all it's strength and considerable force towards the Liepard. Zebo's back stiffened as the puppy pokemon suddenly slammed into him. The stiffness spread throughout his entire body, and he realized he was paralyzed. He had to give it to the pup; he'd underestimated it.
"Hang in there, Zebs!" Zin called in concern. "Try to move!"

Cael looked on, relieved, and watched the pup's antics around Zebo. "Carefull!!" he called. The riolu bounced around the stiff liepard, and batted at the cat's hindquarters with both paws, slightly out of sync (a lot less forcefully this time, but with slightly more precision). Kite tilted it's head questioningly.

Zebo managed to hiss, but he was not quite free of his paralysis. Of course the one time he had to face a child in battle, it was a child with a type advantage. He didn't want to lose to Kite, but he did not particularly want to hurt the pup, either. If they had met under other circumstances, he probably would have given in and played with Kite.
Zinnia waited nervously for Zebo to give the signal that he was free.

Kite peered closely at the Liepards face and batted again at his whiskers, which had rippled so interestingly with that hiss, completely not understanding the situation. <"Not play?">
Cael watched the opponent pokemon closely. This was too good to last.

Zebo finally broke free and backed hastily away from the puppy that was stronger than it looked. "(Not right now,)" he told the pup. "(Now we fight.)"
"Play Rough!" Zinnia commanded.
"(Never mind,)" Zebo said, unsheathing his claws. "(I guess we do play now.)" He aimed for Kite, hoping to bowl the puppy over.

Kite was suddenly and unexpectedly presented with an actual fight. Unprepared, the riolu was sent stumbling. Kite was too surprised and winded to reply.
"Stay away from those claws!" Cale yelped.
The pup skittered under the lager pokemon's reach as soon as it sensed an opening, swatting wildly at whatever part of Zebo was closest once it's footing was restored.

"Dodge it!" Zin said, and she cheered when Zebo managed to. "Now Play Rough!"
Zebo was glad that he didn't have to use an attack that was too brutal... still, he was more than ready to put the pup into its place. He swatted right back at the riolu.

Kite was really not sure if this was play anymore? The riolu swiped right back at the opponent, though with less confidence.
Cael, too, wasn't sure what to make of this, but he was hesitant to encourage more intensity in the pup, considering the big cat type seemed like it might be holding back???

Kite took a solid blow to the forehead. The pup shook it off with some difficulty, but readied another two pawed attack for the next opportunity.
