We can roll stuff first, then rp until a fight breaks out? ovo Or just go right to fighting.

Shalvesta
Simple Sword Stats
HP || 30 (+5)(+1) = Total Hp: 36/36
Attack || 24 (+4)(+4) = (+8 )
Defense || 23 (+4)(+2) = (+6)
Magic || 21 (+4)(+0) = (+4 )
Speed || 21 (+4)(+1) = (+5)

Rolling for turn order: 3 + 4 + 1 = 8
Characters will roll a Random number with their speed BASE stat and add any bonus they get from items or weapons after.

All players should roll turn order in their first post with their stats.

One would hope that after spending a short time in Shifter territory, Shalvesta would have gotten used to the strange looks and hostile posturing. She couldn't say it was horribly surprising, but as she traveled North and East, then settled in a Shifter town for a short time to prepare for further travels, the reactions had seemed to be easing. Neued, the closest Shifter settlement, had been ransacked during the war, people killed or enslaved - and this was, also, bordering the plot of land that had been awarded as an Oban outpost during the peace negotiations.

There, the past events rankled against the motions for peace - and so there Shalvesta could understand the frustration. But here, heading north, Shifters were wary but also not as involved - the people here may, at the worst, have fled into Tale for fear of the coming invasion, and the assumption was that not every person had been victimized by an Oban.

It still made travel... treacherous, however. Her hand curled against the sword tied, by a sash, to her waist, Shalvesta lingered at the edge of this particular settlement, the clawed fingertips of her gauntlet tapping against the hard lacquered wood of her sheath. She was waiting for any merchants to come and set up - needing a handful of supplies before she finally headed on towards Tale. There, she hoped, there would be less... static with the locals.

i'm good to do a few posts first -- shouldn't take them long to fight! 8D

Ouen
Simple Lance Stats
HP || 25 (+4)(+1) = Total Hp: 30/30
Attack || 18 (+3)(+4) = (+7)
Defense || 14 (+2)(+3) = (+5)
Magic || 12 (+2)(+0) = (+2)
Speed || 16 (+3)(+0) = (+3)

Rolling for turn order: 2 + 3 = 5 ((tie? do we re-roll?))

Frankly speaking, some of Ouen’s initial hostility towards Oban travellers had worn off; he had met enough halfway-decent ones do decide they were not exceptionally worse than anyone else (and he had met plenty Shifters nasty enough to convince him that some were even exceptionally better). But the sight of tan skin and red-gold fabric still put him on the alert -- even when he saw only glimmers of it through the thick foliage.

He kept his hand firm around his (relatively new) spear, and made his way quietly forward. Shenandoah crept beside him, for the time-being seeming to sense his intent.

Her hair was long, and dark, and she wore loose clothes knotted around her with a large robe -- this fashion he was already growing accustomed to. But his attention was drawn now to the sword she wore around her waist, her fingers resting guardedly on the sheath. It seemed like she was waiting for something… and Ouen wasn’t coming to any innocent assumptions.

Ouen narrowed his eyes, then spoke out from under the dim jungle.

“You lookin’ for a fight, or what?”

((I actually misadded. My roll was 3, plus my weapon bonuses (5) so I actually had 8. XD Sorry!! ))

Shalvesta hadn't even heard him approaching - then again, even after spending months here during the invasion, Jauhar's landscape still confused her. How could you tell the creak of brush underfoot from any of the other sounds here? Jumping just slightly (she had learned to hide her surprise better, after encountering that Alkidike only weeks ago), Shal's eyes darted sideways to eye him, noting the spear with a slight tense of her shoulders. "Are you?" She asked back, pointedly, looking between him and his... pet, her expression shifting to a guarded look.

Gripping her sword just the slightest bit tighter, Shal took a step back, away from him, and jerked her chin towards the direction of the Shifter settlement she knew was only a short way away. "I'm on my way through - I don't want any trouble here, Shifter." The Oban's voice had the slightest bit of steel to it - a thinly veiled order. Just a year ago, such a tone would never have left her lips - but now she reveled in that small feeling of control.

((ok np! 83
i got some boosts for Ouen, but imma keep his lower stats for this battle.
that way when he loses (he prolly will) it kinda makes sense that he gets better after some practice lololol))

She didn’t look like much of a pushover, that was for sure. But Ouen wasn’t the sort to take easy pickings, so he stepped closer and shrugged his lean shoulders in apparent disregard.

“Could be I am.”

She gestured in a direction behind her and told him that she was passing through; it was a reasonable enough excuse, given that he was pretty sure there was a settlement somewhere over there. But… now that he had started putting on the pressure, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to stop.

“Passin’ through on your way to what, exactly?”

He spun the lance between his fingers, blade and shaft alternating as they whirled past his side. “What if I don’t take to folks like you passin’ around?”

I am trashhh @.@; Taking so long to tag. But yes - I rolled highest, but if you think Ouen would attack here feel free to attack!

A thread of Shal definitely quailed at the threat, loath to get into a fight - but the rest of her roiled in foul temper, seething under the calm facade she wore for all but a second as he began to casually speak, his threat clear in his posture and tone. And there it was - he wanted trouble, he wanted a fight. Who was she to deny him?? That being decided, Shalvesta didn't want to be the first to attack -even if her sparked temper may not give her much choice. Instead, she ground her teeth, readjusting her stance into a more relaxed one, her hand raising to grip at her sword lazily.

Then, at his questions, she barked a laugh and shook her head, looking at him with a slight tilt of her head. "I'm not sure that's your business, Shifter." That would've been enough, but Shalvesta's newfound pride streak and temper egged her on in a way she never would have, during the war. She may lose, and that was on her, but as an Oban she was confident in her position.

Looking around the clearing, Shalvesta feigned surprise, giving a thoughtful hum. "Although - I must say, I'm impressed that you'd pick fights all on your lonesome - from what I've seen, your kind quail unless you have people backing you up."

Ouen | 30/30

Ouen attacks!
(Ouen needs 16 to hit.)

Rolled: 13 + 7 = 20, hit

dmg: (11+7) /2 = 9 dmg

Ouen narrowed his eyes, egged on by the woman's attitude alone. Not his business? This was his homeland, not hers! He had every right to ask, he figured. But this stand-offishness was nowhere near as insulting as the next thing she said.

Quail? His kind?

"That's a lie and you know it!" He hissed, but he was past argument. His lance stopped spinning and landed firmly in his grip, held tight to his side as he charged the intruder.

Shalvesta
Simple Sword Stats
HP || 36 27/36
Attack || 24 (+4)(+4) = (+8 )
Defense || 23 (+4)(+2) = (+6)
Magic || 21 (+4)(+0) = (+4 )

Shalvesta takes 9 dmg

Shalvesta attacks!!
==needs 15 to hit
====rolls 24... HIT

(6+8 )/2 = 7 dmg

Oh, yes. Of course Shalvesta's words were meant to jab him into attacking - and attack he did! And yet, as skilled as she thought herself, Shalvesta passed the opportunity to lunge out of the way of his frenzied attack - and instead held her ground, pride pushing her forward. Bracing herself, she waited until the last possible moment - then unsheathed her sword, moving with the momentum of the blade in an upward strike.

It would have been effective in a swordfight - a dramatic clashing of blades as her movement deflected the thrust of her enemy's weapon, using the momentum to trade blows. However, Shalvesta had little expertise when it came to defending against lances - while they were used in the Oban military, they were in an entirely seperate part of the army, using the increased reach to their advantage. As such, Shalvesta didn't parry anything - instead, the lance bounced bodily against her sword, the sharpened edge gouging into the flesh of her upper arm.

Flinching against the pain of the landed hit, Shalvesta's arm trembled - losing the edge of strength her unsheathing should have allowed her, and instead her attack sliced upwards clumsily at the Shifter before her.

It was a novice's mistake, and in moments Shalvesta's eyes focused sharply on the man, actually assessing him, the cloud of Oban pride shrugged aside with the drawing of her blood.

no worries! i haven't been too active over the last month because of summer stuff... and am nowhere close to growing Ouen. xD

Ouen | 23/30

Ouen attacks!
(Ouen needs 16 to hit.)

Rolled: 12 + 7 = 19, hit

dmg: (11+4) /2 = 7 dmg

For a split-second, the woman did not make a move. It might have unnerved Ouen if he had time to think about that sort of thing, but he was running full-tilt and had no time to waver. When she did finally draw her sword, he flinched – but his lance swept past the blade anyway, and bit into the skin of her arm.

Truth be told, Ouen hadn’t had a lot of practice in combat, and a lance was an awkward thing if you didn’t quite know how to handle it. He took an awkward step back so as to position himself for another blow (this time in closer range, since he would no longer have the benefit of a charge behind him) and found himself facing a swinging Oban sword. He held the shaft of his weapon up to block some of the blow, but his opponent was quick enough to compensate, and he felt a hot sting across his lower arm.

He shook it off, though. If you got in a fight… you had to deal with the consequences.

“That the best you got?” He quipped, finding himself in a good enough position to thrust the lance forward again.

Shalvesta takes 7 dmg

Shalvesta tries to trip!
==2 + 8 = 10
==== Ouen must roll 1d20 + speed bonus, and get 11 or more to not be tripped!

Shalvesta POWERS UP! + 3 to HIT and DMG OR Dodge on next turn!

They were now locked in close combat, and Shalvesta should have had the advantage. However, still distracted by the throbbing gash to her arm, Shal needed the time to gather herself. Dodging such a close hit should have been simple, but her enemy reacted quickly - and as she dropped into a crouch, mind already made him to trip him, his lance once again bit out, catching her this time in the thigh. Another slice of cloth and flesh, but thankfully not a stab wound - that, she felt, would be harder to contend with.

Still flinching from the second blow, Shalvesta's leg swept out, leaning her weight on the uninjured one. Before seeing whether or not the blow even landed, she danced backwards, away, her body bowing forward in preparation - she needed to focus herself, here and now. Her next attack needed to count for something. As of now, she was the one faltering in this - and should she fall, she doubted he would have mercy - unless it was simply to rub her face in her failure.

"Do you really have time for talking, right now?" She shot back, glaring accusingly. Did he want little jabs and quips during his fighting?! How foolish.

not likely! xD
also, hope i can do this? it said he could take a half-action, sooo.

Ouen also attempts to trip.

12 + 7 = 19
Shal. must roll 1d20 + speed bonus, and get 20 or more to not be tripped!

Ouen grinned when she seemed to take offense at his little comment; so what if he wanted to fit in a joke or two? It was how she had started this damn fight, anyway, what with her offending him and his kind for no decent
cause. Who was she to blame him for wanting to get back at her?

“Why, is that too much for you to focu – “

Before he could finish, he found himself tumbling forwards and onto the jungle floor. The shaft of his lance almost slipped from his fingers, which he managed to squeeze into a stubbornly-tight first. That… that was a good trick, actually. He bit down on his tongue this time and found enough time to twist around amongst all the roots, propping the lance up under her legs as she approached for her next attack.

... Okay, it would be a lie to say she didn't get some satisfaction from seeing him fall over mid-sentence. A wide smile rose onto her lips the moment he fell - and she had already shot forward, sword ready - when the lance came sweeping under her. It was only by some miracle that she saw it in time to leap above the incoming lance, instead landing amidst the tangle of roots, her blade flashing out to slice at her foe. "I'm sorry, what was that you were saying?" She shot back breathlessly.

np. B) i'm sure you can finish Ouen soon lololol he's not very strategic.

Ouen | 9/30

Ouen attacks!
(Ouen needs 16 to hit.)

Rolled: 4 + 7 = 13, miss

From his skewed perspective on the ground, the Oban woman seemed to soar over his lance and land, unharmed, a few feet away. It gave him enough of a chance to get back to his feet, but not enough to properly regain his balance. He felt the heat of a new open wound and lashed out in response.

His lance, however, was easily knocked aside.

Frustrated and somewhat dizzy from his earlier tumble, the shifter tried to shake himself into focus. It wasn't working out too well, but... well, he'd be damned if he was going to give in to this one!

"I was jus' worried," he forced out, getting a better grip on his lance, "that all this was a little too much for ya."
