Zin streaked into the stadium and ran up the steps with Shadow flying at her shoulder. The girl's pigtails streamed behind her, mimicking the dark mew's single long tail. Zin caught herself on rails, panting and grinning exuberantly.
This was another opportunity to do one of her favorite activities with her best friend, Lenore. Best of all, they would both grow stronger and closer this way.

Lenore stepped up to the guard rail and gave a tentative wave to the other girl. In this battle, she'd be using Sheoldred, and she knew the butterfree would fight to the last. Retrieving the bloody butterfree's pokeball, she sent out Sheoldred, who glared at the mew from across the field.

Zin smirked and waved at her friend before returning her attention to the battle. She knew the butterfree-- and knew that Sheoldred would be going all-out, despite the fact that this was a friendly battle. In that case, she would not hold back, either.
"Shadow, use Flamethrower!" she shouted.
The mew's eyes flashed a bright purple for a moment. She raised one paw, and a spark of flame appeared. It built into a large red fireball that shrank in on itself, as if it were condensing... the smaller it grew, the hotter it got, shifting from red to blue. Shadow then aimed and released the blast, sending a white-hot column of flames for the bug pokemon.

The blood lurched up into a shield at the sign of attack, but evaporated under the intense flames. Sheoldred screeched as the flames licked at her wings, and she flew out of the way. "Use Ominous Wind!" Blood pulled on the butterfree's wings, and with a fierce gust of wind, she sent the blood racing towards the mew.

Shadow dodged the worst of the wind, but the edges tore at her fur and chilled her to the bone. She shivered delicately.
"Keep it up! Flamethrower!"
The mew quickly sent another burst of flame to the butterfree; this time, the flames were a normal orange and red, as she lacked the time to focus a more concentrated blast. But at least this way, the butterfree would hopefully have less time to prepare for the oncoming attack.

The lack of a concentration on the flames proved to be a boon, as it took Sheoldred that much longer to avoid them. Screeching in pain, she glared at the mew with barely contained rage before sending a torrent of blood at her.

The mew wrinkled her nose as the blood clung to her fur and burned at the skin beneath. She shook herself free of it before it could cause too much harm.
"Flamethrower!"
The mew used both paws to send a twin burst of flame toward Sheoldred.

Shadow shuddered and returned the attack with another blast of flames without waiting for Zinnia's command. Zinnia clung to the rails, watching intently. It seemed the battle was running a bit closer than she'd expected; the butterfree truly never did go down without a fight. However, she was confident that Shadow would hold her own.

Lenore watched as the butterfree flew into a rage, knowing that even if she gave a command that Sheoldred would just ignore it. Escaping the newest blast of flame, the butterfree shook violently, sending blood flying all over the stadium.

The blood went to protect Sheoldred, too late. The flames engulfed her, and she fell to the ground, too exhausted to continue. Lenore returned the butterfree to her pokeball and waved to Zin. "Thanks for the battle, Zin." With a smile and wave, the girl turned and left.
