The egg grows heavy -- nerves turn into lead in his stomach -- the further he gets from Doom and Look-See. It's dark shell seems nigh unbreakable (indeed for a moment he had thought a tooth chipped -- it was with ridiculous relief that he found it whole) as he rolls his shoulders to ease some of the tension. It sits nestled behind the curve of his neck and he still has no inkling of what it is other than an egg. It is much too large to be a songbird. (And she's wanted ferocious besides.)[stuff]
