Noemi felt the white hot sear of a memory float to her.
It came in the pain of a smile and knife in her side. She had come with Milo to help or stop him.
So he had stabbed her with a smile. She had never felt the connection with him, so when he was killed, she had felt nothing.
He was never anything to her anyways.

She could see him from her window, even came out to him to greet him.
He asked her name. She answered as politely as she could.
"Noemi Hurley." He said he'd remember it, she didn't know why that was important. He set a hand on her hair. "The loss of your family, I have heard from the villagers. Your grief is not alone. Be safe." She felt in that moment, perhaps she was important.
Perhaps Lancelot saw something she did not.

He had never felt heavy appendages before. Weighed down by metal formed into chains. He felt...pain? Was that it? Physical representation of the misery forced on the body.
he felt fear.
For the first time, he felt what he was created from.
And then he was condensed, formed, created.
Round, wooden, smaller. A shield.
A small shield. He could block out the pain now.

But she remembered it reminded her of the chickens. She supposed it took that form to blend in with her coop, as it was hiding out.
She would leave it food sometimes, since it didn't bother her hens. She wasn't sure what it liked, so she left a good amount of everything else.
Eventually she coaxed it to talking to her. She had been shocked, but one day it did talk to her. She had never thought of it is crazy, but....
"We will help you one day..." It promised, nuzzling her hand. "We aren't all bad! We like Humans! You'll see!" It nuzzled her again. "I'll come back for you! Okay! I'll take care of you too!"
She held on to that promise.
She never saw the creature again.

The home she had built, the small tokens she had gathered. She had no parents, no living relatives. The Hales had fell, buried in ash and dirt and fire. They were all she had.
She would never hear the truth of the nature of her parents. She would live with the memories of screams and the crackling of fire. She would follow after Milo, Evan and Shu.
Survivors.
They were all she had now. The last memories of the only place she had called home.

There was many ways to call them.
But in her practice, she would always see the white knight, trying her best. She would get knocked down, and get back up. She would take a hit, and she would return it.
Noemi respected and admired that about the woman.
So she aspired to be like her.
she was smaller, and she fell easier. But she bounced up, like the white knight did.
She was smaller and not as strong, so she took the hits and cried out in pain. But she returned with small jabs of her own.
Because the white knight did.
It wasn't Lancelot that made her want to be a knight, there on the training grounds. But a fellow knight like herself, struggling and achieving to overcome.
Noemi wanted to be like that. She wanted to protect all that she loved, and keep fighting.
So like the white knight, she made it her goal. A safer world. Protected by them.
Because they were knights of Camelot.
