It had been sometime since she left the house she grew up in. After losing her daughters she refused to leave. People that knew her, and knew of the event, had been brining her food and firewood to keep warm. However it had been a while, and people were becoming less and less willing to help her. She was bad company, rarely even letting people into the house, and didn't talk much when she did let people in. It was becoming clear to her that she would have to leave the house sooner rather then later. Or else she would starve.
Graphing her spear she headed into town, towards the blacksmith shop. Her spear was dull, and it was unlikely that she would be able to kill anything with it in the condition that it was. It needed to be sharpened. Walking into the Smith Shop she looked around quietly. She hadn't talked freely in a while, and it wouldn't be easy for her to do so now.

Ai'ian was in the middle of forging a hammer, it was one of his first tries and it had come out alright, he was sanding down the rough edges on the mallet head when he heard the telltale sound of footsteps nearby, he looked up, black hair plastered around his face from the sweat that poured freely. He took a cloth and wiped it before it made it into one of his eyes. "Hello there, i'll be with you in just a minute." He picked up the half finished hammer, wiped away the metal bits and turned pushing his hair back behind his ears where it couldn't get into trouble. "How may I help you ma'am, Brighton will be back in a bit, hes the head smith here, so if I can't see to it he can. My name is Ai'iandaroch but as it is such a mouthful Ai or Roch will do." He smiled as bright as he could.

She nodded when she heard the boy call out, continuing to look at all of the things the shop had. She was in no hurry to get back, she found now that she had left the house she was in no hurry to return to it. When he spoke to her again she just stared for a little, processing the information. She knew of the name Brighton, or at least she thought she did, but she couldn't remember hearing this halfbreed's name before. Or seeing him for that matter. However it didn't matter much, she herself wasn't pure and had no problems with other's who weren't as well.
After a few minutes she spoke. "Pleasure to meet you Ai'iandaroch." she said addressing him by his full name as was only polite. Her voice felt strange, alien to her, but she knew she had to use it. "I'm Zuri. I need my spear sharpened." she said as she held it out. She had used it on the way to Zena a lot and then it had been sitting for some time, so it wasn't in the best condition over all.

a pet dino "Well come Zuri, lets have a look at your spear." He came over and tested the edge. "This one has been most faithful to you, a proper lady she is, I should be able to get her up to tip top shape myself, but as I am a bit of a novice in the art I ask if you mind?" His long fingers stroked the spear from haft to head. Thumb testing the sharpness of the blade edges. Mmm rough use, but nothing that couldn't be fixed so that she would be as beautiful as the day she was forged. A beautiful weapon indeed. He glanced up much like the beauty that weilded her, they must make quite a pair the two of them, bright bold and dangerous a heady combination. There was a shadow to her mistress though something in the air around her marked upon her face. It wasn't in him to pry.

She was reluctant to give him the spear, even though she wanted to get it sharpened she didn't want to give it up. However she knew she needed to, feeling naked without it. However the way that he talked to her relaxed her though. It made her feel better about being weaponless.
"That she is. She's been with me for years now. And I don't mind at all. We all have to start somewhere." he was being honest with her and that was something that she valued in a person. Plus the way he held her spear made her trust him more. Just because someone worked with weapons didn't mean the loved them, and he clearly loved what he did.
For a while she was silent. She wasn't use to much conversation. But she felt in a way that it would be good for her, to talk to someone. Plus he was the age her girls would be. "How long have you lived here Ai'iandaroch?"

"Since I was just out of the lotus, Ma brought me back here, I've been here ever since," he smiled. She didn't seem to have any malice towards him whatsoever, so while he was nervous talking about his heritage, it wasn't the end of the world to do so. He started to sharpen the spear, taking care with its edge as Brighton had showed him to ensure strength and durability for the battles to come. A while later he brought it back to her, polishing it absently. "Hows this?" he asked, handing her spear back. It was a lovely weapon. "Thank you for allowing me to work with her. I don't get crystal spears all that often, they are quite beautiful."

She nodded. So he had grown up there like she had. Part of her wanted to tell him to not go to Jauhar, not to try to find out about his other half, but another part of her realized that telling him what to do was unfair. She was not his mother, and even if she was she was sure that she would not be able to make him do as she wished.
She watched as he sharpened, appreciating the handiness he had. It wasn't something she had seen before, and she vowed from then on to watch as people sharpened her spear. She took the spear from him and weighted it, making sure it was still balanced, and moving around with it. When she was done she smiled. "It's wonderful. You did wonderfully, I will be sure to tell anyone else that I see to come to you."

He glowed with the praise, "Thank you, I tried really hard to do it right, spears of crystal can be a bit tricky at times. I hope it served you well for a long time again." he couldn't wait to get going on his own sword skills soon, but he still had some blacksmithing to do before he could scurry off. "So are there any tricks to facing someone with a spear? I've only gone up against someone else with another sword, no hammers or spears or anything else for that matter." He puffed out a sigh, "I worry that my smithing will get in the way of my practice and somedays I am too tired to practice anyhow." He usually fretting about this at night but when he talked to his mentor about it Brighton chuckled and said he was building muscle either way and the smithing skills might one day be just as important as the sword skills.

She smiled at the question. She hadn't given fighting advice in a long time. She wasn't sure that she was qualified to even do so anymore. Once she was fierce, undefeatable, but now she wasn't so sure.
"Get close. I think one of the disadvantages of the spear and advantages of something like a sword is the fact that once you get close to someone with a spear it becomes hard to use. I feel like swords are more manageable. Better in smaller spaces."
"As for your worries about smithing, it's a balance. You have to find a way to give to both without taking from either. It won't be easy, but smithing is a good skill to have. Plus it's obvious you have skill with it."

Ai blushed at the compliment. "Thank you, I'll have to remember that and perfect the balance. Get closer..I guess that makes sense due to the length of a spear." He went to the side and got his sword which he practiced with everyday if he could still lift his arms. "Its only fair for you to see what I'm working with, since I've seen your spear." He placed the sword on the table wondering something. "When you first touched a spear did you feel an instant connection? My first time almost felt like an electric shock, and as obsessed with smithing as I have become, I haven't forgotten it.

When he brought out his sword she smiled, it was a nice weapon. "Do you have a hand in it's creation?" she asked curiously.
When he asked her about the spear she shook her head. "I was torn at first, not sure if I wanted to wield my spear or a trident. They both had their advantages, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that the spear belonged to me and I to it." it had been a wonderful process for her, including cutting all her hair off. Though she did regret some of the things that happened while she was away from Zena, picking her spear was not one of them.

"Not this one, it was my mentor who made it, and he did a fine job. Soon I hope to have a hand in creating a new one for myself. Kind of a right of passage for me. I want to stay a blacksmith I like it more than fighting but then I would have the problem of making weapons and never using them which would drive me crazy." He knew he was ready to go further with his training soon and he looked forward to it, with just a little bit of nerves.

She nodded. It makes sense, for him to make his own weapon as a way to prove that he was a capable blacksmith. It was like a warrior having to get their first kill. "I'm sure you will pass with flying weapons. And as for making weapons and not using them, sadly there seems to be enough war around here that you wouldn't have to worry much about that." She didn't remember this much war when she was young, but then again it was possible her father had shielded her from the problems of the world.
"You could always be a traveling blacksmith for hire? That way you could travel and use weapons as well as craft different kinds."

"You know I really like that idea, its kinda like what I do now, I'd prefer not to be in the heat of a battle itself but somewhere on the sidelines would be okay if I had to scrap once or twice between work or something." He didn't really know much about battle or how it was run or not run. But he knew he was not melee material nope nope nope. "Do you like the melee? I don't think it would be my thing myself but I am curious about it." He had lived a pretty war sheltered life so far, being mostly far from any pitched battle, he hadn't seen much more than disagreements in the street for the most part.

She nodded. "There is always need for a black smith on the sidelines of any major battle. A broken weapon can mean death for a solider, plus like you said you would be able to protect your area when you weren't working on things. I think that would blend the two things you want to do perfectly."
When he asked if she liked melee she shrugged. "There are good points and bad points to it. However at this point it's what I know. Kind of hard to teach an old dog new tricks." she laughed at the last part. She wasn't really that old, but she knew that she wasn't young anymore either.
