There wasn’t a single footstep in the village that wasn’t echoed by the hushed whispers of the village folk. It seemed so obvious to the villagers as to what had happened to Veshki. A fight. A simple push. The tumble into the ravine that ultimately lead to the Scout’s death. And who was responsible? Ruelash. At least, according to the villagers.

There was not a single doubt in her mind that her little brother was innocent. Yes, he could rage and be violent, but Veshki… Ruelash would never have done that to their older brother.

But the villagers were not so understandable. All they saw was a berserker, someone right on the edge every moment. The fear was tangible within the village whenever he was around. It sickened her. She wanted to throttle every one of those idiots that dared to cast blame upon him.

He didn’t need her murdering the town’s folk though. She would be there to support him and defend him no matter what. Right now, that support would have to be a lunch and a trip out, something to get his mind off of the blathering of the village.

“Ruelash, it’s time for lunch. Get in here before it freezes.”

Ruelash was upset, and who could blame him? His brother was dead. Everyone said he'd killed him, and he hadn't. Idiots – didn't they understand that if he'd killed someone, he wouldn't hide it like some sniveling weakling? He'd shout it out to the world. And it wouldn't have been Veshki anyway. He hated them all. He hated everything.

The feel of wood splitting was cathartic. The weight of the axe as he swung it down, the feel of the wood giving and splitting and shattering beneath it, the way the crunch of wood rattled up his arms... he liked it. Though it wasn't the same as a hunt or a fight, it was something.

He glowered at a villager nearby, who watched him warily, baring his teeth at them. Idiots. Maybe one day he could really show them what he'd be like if he killed someone. Maybe it would be one of them. It would serve them right.

The villager looked at him uncomfortably and walked away quickly and he smirked, satisfied. He raised his axe for another swing and paused at the sound of his sister's voice. ”Arright.” he said, gruffly, leaving the axe on the log and stalking inside, brushing snow from his hair and stomping at the entrance. ”Hey.” he grunted, moving into the warmth deeper in their hut...

“Hey,” She couldn’t deny it, her brother looked rough. These last few weeks had to have been rough on him. With accusations and curses tossed his way, he had been angrier than his usual grumpy self. For a good reason, of course. It had to be some sort of therapy, or a way to relieve some tension. At least he was taking it out on the wood pile rather than one of the village idiots. Though at the rate he was going, they were going to be set for a year or two, especially with the last peak she took towards the pile.

She heard the door open and she took the spoon out of the pot. With a few steps, she had the simple bowls ready for his arrival. “Ready for lunch? I made your favorite.” Well, as well as she could make it. She wasn’t the best cook in the world, but she followed their mother’s recipe to the letter. The thought was there, right? As long as he didn't hate it, that was some form of success.

As she waited for him to get his portion, she tried to figure the next best course of action. Where would a good place for them to go be? She didn’t really want to go along one of Veshki’s routes, she wasn’t trying to prod the bear. As far as the mountains went though, there wasn’t much going on besides snow, roati and rocks.

Food was food. Where it was concerned, Ruelash had very simple, broad tastes. If it was edible, he'd eat it. If it was meat, great. If the meat was cooked, even better.

He took the bowl, grunting something that might have been a thank-you as he dug into the stew and helped himself to a generous portion. He ate in silence and clearly enjoyed it to some extent because he emptied his bowl quickly and cleanly.

He licked his lips and stared at the pot for a long while, the familiar flavors lingering in his mouth long after the food itself had gone. ”You made this?” he growled. He was almost thoughtful, if anything that Ruelash did could be considered thoughtful.

There was a certain amount of pride when seeing someone eat the food you made, and that was no different for Jawaad. It wasn’t hard to please her brother, she knew that, but he didn’t hate it at least.
“Enjoy~” She took her bowl and took a decent portion for herself to test it out. For not being the best cook, this was pretty good, probably her best attempt. Edible was always a step in the right direction. Watching Ruelash woof it down, she couldn’t complain at all as she ate hers.

She was almost taken by surprise by the question. Their meals weren’t spent in conversation, she liked to think that they just enjoyed each other’s company…at least each other’s existence. She nodded, “Yes, what did you think?” She didn’t look for any compliments, she just wanted to hear his thoughts.

I think they should go on a walk, don't you?
Poke--

Ruelash was quiet for a moment before rising to get himself another portion. He finished it equally quickly, equally silently, before he started roughly cleaning up. ”Tastes like mom's.” he grunted, holding his hand out for her bowl.

And it did. It was, almost exactly, how their mother had made it when she'd taken a kill that could be turned into that kind of soup. It tasted like times spent together – the three of them. And her. Maybe their father, but he was rarely there. Ruelash sort of missed those times.

He growled something incomprehensible before scouring aggressively at the bowls.

Jawaad gave a soft grin at the compliment, finishing up her share and handing the bowl to him. She felt like she was on top of the world, the compliment something she would hold close. It wasn't just the fact that he liked it, it was also the thought that maybe it was a nice way to bridge the gap that had seemed to grow as time had gone on.

As she watched him clean the bowls, she pushed herself out of her seat and started to put the rest of the leftovers away. It would be a nice lunch for tomorrow; but today was the time for taking action! "How do you feel about going on a walk with me, Rue? Get away from the village for a bit."
