Alex had shooed off her afternoon help a half hour after the before-rush hour-rush, and the cafe was, for the moment, fairly empty as she finished up sweeping and wiping tables off. It had been a busy enough day, and she'd managed to break even for the month early! That was a wonderful feeling, one that had her breathing a sigh of relief earlier in the day. The sound of the bell attached to the door going off had her putting the broom to one side, out of the way, a smile on her face.
"Welcome to Mocha Mountain! Have an idea of what you'd like, or do you need a moment?"

One perk to having senshi speed (and, as he had learned, the ability to jump really high) was that it allowed Ezra to find new places in the city to eat that much faster. He would take a look around, find a promising place, power down, and then slip into the eatery of his choice like nothing had happened. This particular establishment didn't require a senshi shortcut, which was nice. He had heard about this place through the gossip chain and wanted to investigate. Any place where he could satisfy his incredibly persistent sweet tooth was welcome. When he walked in, he was a little disappointed at the apparent emptiness, but the prompt greeting brightened him up again. "Hi! Um, yeah, give me a second to see what you've got." He then promptly parked himself in front of the dessert case. Dessert cases were the best and the worst. On the one hand, they held delicious treats. On the other hand, sometimes he had no idea what to pick. "Hmm... what would you recommend? There's a lot to pick from here." There was also the matter of how much to order. He hated the funny looks he got when he surpassed the phantom limit and ordered too much food. Sure, it meant more money for the shopkeepers, but it was apparently weird when one guy brought home enough sweets for at least two, sometimes even three people.

The large woman couldn't help the chuckle that escaped her, nodding. "Yeah. I try to make sure we've got enough to satisfy a wide range of people. We get plenty of sorts coming through, and it's always nice to be able to order something sweet with your drink." She looked thoughtful, then moved to the other side of the case to point things out. "If you like chocolate and coffee, I made a batch of my espresso brownies a couple of hours ago. I get a lot of people getting the chocolate chip cookies, too. And then there's the cupcakes!" She paused, then chuckled. "Ah...seems I'm partial to my own baking. But if you're after the most popular, the brownies and cookies are it."
She was more than a little proud of her baking. It was something she loved to do and was good at it, along with her cooking.

"Everyone has different tastes, even for sweet things," Ezra said, nodding. He watched the woman point out the things in the case, and he hoped it wasn't too obvious that he was craving just about anything at this point. "Man, I don't even know where to begin. How about... a frappuchino and a cupcake? Vanilla, please." It was probably a very weird combination, but it was also a test of sorts. If he got a weird look for it, it would take one star off his mental rating of the place. If he actually found a place where he would be allowed to indulge himself without feeling judged, he might just call this place his new home.

"True, true." Smart kid. She waited for him to decide, then nodded. "Coming right up! For here or to go? I can prep it for either." She rather hoped for there, if only because it was too quiet in the cafe when there was no one else around. She did, however, start prepping the espresso. That was easy enough to get going without knowing if it was for there or to go.

The answer came easily to Ezra. "For here, sure. I've got time. And company, too!" Even if it was just one other person, having someone to chat with over food was almost always a good time. "Is this just a quiet time? It feels like there should be more people in here, or like they should be coming in soon." It was a bit of subtle flattery, a "you should be having more business;" hopefully the lady would catch it. "Say, I don't think I got your name. I'm Ezra." An introduction would be nice in case he decided to come around again, which seemed likely at this point.

"I can certainly do that!" It didn't take her long to have the drink ready, setting it up on the counter and carefully pulling the cupcake out and putting it on a plate next to the drink. "Unfortunately. The last rush of the day has come and gone. Mostly folks looking to make it through the last of the day, or students doing their homework or getting ready for an all-nighter." Alex chuckled. "I don't mind too much, but company like yourself is always appreciated. I'm Alex, it's very nice to meet you, Ezra!"

"All nighters... right, I'm going to have to pull one of those soon. Maybe I'll stop by for a mocha then." Ezra paused, then smiled and nodded cheerfully. "Good to meet you, Alex. This place might be my new favorite little stop! It's got the right personal touches without being too judgey, if that makes any sense." He took his frappe and cupcake and took a seat that wasn't too far away before checking a clock. "Hmm... maybe I should've gotten this to go. Look at the time."

"I understand." She nodded semi-sagely. "I wanted my place to be free of that bullshit. We stuck pretty close to my mother's Italian roots growing up, so you'll find no food shaming here." Alex grinned, moving to get the to-go supplies. "If you're in a rush, I can pack these up to-go for you! You'll just need to come in when you've got a little more free time to enjoy yourself."

"Ew, food shaming," Ezra said with a chuckle. "I'm glad to hear that. Really. The funny looks I get sometimes when I stock up on food for a few days are a huge turn off." He paused before he continued. "Not really a rush, but I should get going. And I'll definitely come by when there's more time. Thanks again, Alex!"

"Not a problem! I understand that sometimes that clock is not your friend." She set about getting things packed up for him, setting the little box with his cupcake down next to his drink. "People need to learn to mind their own business when it comes to food. Especially with the diets people have been trying. Ugh...they're ridiculous. Now you have a good night, and enjoy your drink and treat!" Alex gave him a grin and a wave, sad to see him go, but excited to possibly have another regular.
