Keelthy had loaded up the janarim, leaving a space for a rider up there, Xarthin didn't seem to mind much while he followed Yitzah around with a bad case of puppy love. On the plus side he was more managable with her around even if he was improving in that department over all the longer he stayed with them. He was going home and a piece of him floated with joy at the prospect, he loved the desert and his family had very nearly ruined that for him. They encompassed the other side of how he was feeling; dread, determination, fear, rage. To say the least he was very confused emotionally but he wasn't alone. Reillan was here and even Yitzah brought her own sort of comfort to him simply from being around.

Reillan patted the janarim's side and breathed deeply, the forest was so different from home it smelled of leaflitter, fungus, rain, clean air none of which were really all that prominant in the dry populated landscape of the desert. Home to hearth and family, home with his brother come drought or sandstorm and he would have it no other way. He grinned fiercly time to get back to their destinies after their nice little break.
"Are you ready to see the desert Yitzah?" excitement suffused his voice and he couldn't hide the glee from his face. Trading rain for sand wasn't such a big deal for him. "Lets move out." The journey had begun!

Yitzah rode atop the Janarim, very happy with her travel arrangements. This was exactly as things should be – she, on a giant beast, with other people allied with her below. She would have been fine alone, of course, but she was grudgingly glad for the company. She'd have never thought of travelling without them, have never left the forest. Now, as Xarthin's mighty feet kicked up leaf litter and mud, she almost couldn't wait.
”Yeah” she said, trying not to sound to excited, ”Lets go there already.” she said, kicking Xarthin's sides. Of course, her little feet could do little but tap him, and he seemed to like it. No harm, no foul. She pet his hide, noting that he had a nice feel to him – rough but not to rough, smooth but not too smooth... just right. ”When do we get to Oba?”

"A half day should see us to the edge of the desert, then maybe another for the first city where we will resupply then about two days with a stop or two to the capital." They were well and truly going home now and he could feel the call of the desert sing in his blood. he grinned at Keel who grinned back both brothers looking even more disturbingly alike at that point.
The walk was slow going the vines teasing along the janarims back while he walked slowly not to dislodge his favorite from his broad back. He could smell the food back there and often looked back to check on her to see if she was divesting treats for herself or for him, he was good with either one.
Reill watched him amused stepping carefully least he faceplant himself on some of the roots and branches.

Keelthy started when Xarthin snuck up behind him and nosed around for the treats in his own pockets that he could smell. Keelthy having been found out, discretely fed him some. Home, and all that it entailed the good the bad and the Varinia. He thought he might be a little more manly now, a little more grown. A lot wiser that was for sure. He too watched his feet but it came more naturally to him then it did his brother, he knew his body in ways only a dancer could much like Reil would know his sword after he got it. It was a very philosophical thought, Reil would welcome that blade as an extension of his arm but the weight would unbalance his musculature. Keelthy's own daggers weighed the same and were much smaller not likely to over tip him in either arm. "The first thing I'm going to do when we reach a city is buy some of the fruit and meat I have been craving, the spices! They have weird ones here and its just not the same..I need more tea too." He started to list the items in his head. "You know we have to carry all of that right?" "Yeah but we will have burned through most of our supplies by then so we will need it."

Yitzah grumbled. Reillan talked to much, for too long, and he was boring. Clearly, she needed to throw something at him but whenever she took something out to get him to stop talking about the boring itinerary – she didn't care about how long it took to get to the desert and then the capital, she wanted to know why they weren't already there now – it happened to be a treat and the Janarim kept looking back and she couldn't help but give it to the beast instead. He understood her frustration, didn't he, the scaly old sop.
The brothers started talking about supplies and Yitzah was soon bored, even though she did like the collection of spices they had. She hugged the Janarim's neck and breathed in his strange, foreign smell before she looked up at the trees. ”I'm leaving this, you know.” she murmured to the Janarim, ”Gonna leave all this behind, but I'll come back...” she patted the thick neck, ”You'll see, Xarthin, I'll come back. I'll squash lots of bug people when I do. I will.” she watched the leaves idly, surprised to see, as her eyes adjusted to the patterns, a silhouette in the leaves. An Alkidike?! Several Alkidikes actually, all grown and fierce. A group of three tumbled out abruptly into the path in front of them, and a few clambered out behind, cutting off the escape routes. “Obans.” one of the sister's sneered, “They're Obans. They shouldn't be in our woods at all. They don't even have the temporary rights that the Shifters have... desert scum.” she spat. One of the others nodded. “Are you coming, Obans, or leaving. We won't stop you from leaving, though we'll lighten your load for you if you are...” her eyes went over Xarthin's saddlebags greedily..,

Reillan's lip curled, feeling the pull of his warrior's blood at the prospect of a real battle. It was somewhat unfamiliar to him but heady indeed. "In fact we are leaving, with all our supplies, if you ladies won't move then I hope you find peace in the afterlife." It was hot and it was wet and he was no unhappy and ready to jump into a fight, just like that. The janarim circled, club tail thumping heavily on the ground. He liked alkidike's but he had one, she was his, they couldn't have her back. At the growling Reillan made a gesture and Xarthin stopped. He looked at Keelthy and the brothers nodded, his longsword made an appearance, it was new and it was real. He tilted the blade and the metal shone brightly.

Keelthy rolled his little blades around his hand, as deft as a theif but much more graceful. "Ladies," he said cordially, "We mean no harm, I am trying to get myself back into a family that kicked me out, earning my right. We thank Jauhar for her help in this time of need but the desert as you say calls us home." He untied a bag of spice and tea, frivulous and he could get more in Oba. "An honor for your table, watch the dosage its hot pepper." He nodded but did not put his blades away just in case. For once the janarim was listening, but he was also listening to the one in his back, she was in the power position and she had fed him a treat. He glared at all the alkidikes showing all his teeth in a threatening grimace.

The Alkidikes laughed at Reillan's threat. “I'd say the same, but earthlings have no afterlife.” “They barely even have a life!” “And won't when we're done with them...” more snickering, “Unless they give us everything they've got and leave the jungle.” One of them held her hand out for the spice bag. “Thanks, Oban. That's very reasonable of you... now for the rest.” Yitzah gaped as the Sisters ambushed them, shocked. She'd never actually seen her sisters battle... well, not since that time in the woods, but they hadn't been able to put up a fight. At all.
This was different.
”Go away!” she shouted at them, angry at Keelthy. They were rude, and so he should not give them anything! ”You're all stupid! Go away!”The alkidikes started, looking up at Yitzah in naked surprise. “Hey, that's a youngling!” “That's an Alkidike youngling!” “What is a little sister doing with Obans?!” “They must be kidnapping her! Kill them, sisters!” And with that, the sisters attacked... Yitzah huddled onto Xarthin's back, shocked at the fury that her sister's possesed. They were stupid – stupid stupid stupid – and she didn't want them to make her go back. Or to hurt the two men – that was bad too. ”Go awaaaaay!” she whined, as the sounds of the skirmish whirled around her.
