A heavy sigh escaped the brunette as she stared at the reigns in her hands. Once again there didn't seem to be too many people lingering about for her to ask for assistance up the mountain and she still wasn't too sure about going up to someone randomly with her request. Everyone had more important things to do than to take her up the mountain. They were preparing to head back to the castle for a possible final battle after all.
She would go it alone, she gathered grimly and made an apprehensive face looking down at the saddle. Food had been collected for the journey and now it was just time to go before she was too far behind the group. Yes. Go. Go, this was the last trip she needed, she told herself. Just close your eyes and go. The horse can lead the way.

It was tempting to just keep her eyes closed for the rest of the journey, there was hope that the horse was more than familiar now with the trail up the mountain with how many times she had traversed it (along with the others). Maybe it would have become natural by now. But even then, Maple couldn't hold out that much hope for that. Just had to keep a defensive air about herself and keep her eyes open for all the dangers that could come at her.
Like the squirrels who decided to strike once again. Out of vengeance? (Even though she had no qualm against the small creatures) Or perhaps they were simply mad and attacked anyone who ventured the path. Or it was just her luck that she kept getting attacked by ferocious little creatures. Maple wailed, and attempted to make herself as small as possible as they clawed and bit her before they scattered off.
Hopefully they didn't have a medieval version of rabies or something.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 34/34 YOUR HP: 40/50

Perhaps too spooked by the small invading creatures or too well aware of how often the girl failed in her mission, as soon as Maple hopped off the horse to check her scratches it took right off, leaving only her food and gear behind. Another wail came from the black knight and her brows creased with worry.
This again? She couldn't imagine finding it through the labyrinth, even the fleeting moments when she was so close to catching up. He was simply... gone. And she was once again alone.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 34/34 YOUR HP: 40/50

Getting through the forest wasn't too terrible, she had done it enough times to learn the right path to do so. It was almost second nature, as was going through the mountain. It was almost becoming familiar getting chased by that monster again. Yet she still let out a small cry when it rounded up on her.
Why did her luck have to be this way? And despite her efforts she still dropped half of her food.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 15/34 YOUR HP: 40/50

Maple almost felt like crying when nothing seemed to want to smite her when she reached the summit. Nothing came, no eagles (though she still kept an eye out), the rest of the peak seemed stable enough that it gave no threat of falling upon her (again, kept an eye out) and she hadn't lost her food completely.
There didn't even seem to be that old man around. Just her and the last missing piece of her armor. Then she nearly dropped all of her food when she came upon it, her own beautiful set of wings. Maple fell to her knees and clutched the fabric close and swelled with actual pride of her accomplishments. So much failure but in the end she had overcome it and accomplished something.
And now she never had to see the mountain again.[ Wings of Persephone ] QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 10/34 YOUR HP: 40/50
