So, what are you working on? A novel? Something else?

I'm working on a thriller/detective story about a woman whose sister disappeared when she was younger, and when she moves back to the town where it happened children start to go missing again and Cassie is convinced it's all connected. :3

How about you?

Seems a little quiet in here. Do people usually not come through the guild forums until the first 'official' day?

Anyhow, I'm writing a story about a lost orphan girl who gets taken in by vampires, who manage to hide their secret until she's in her teens, at which point it has to be decided if she'll join them or die.

I think the guild has seen better years unfortunately. It's been a bit dead this last few years, although I'm hoping some new blood might help!

I'm glad you went with that plot. It seems like you could have a lot of fun with it. =D

Well, it's hardly going to be Anne of Green Gables, but there's some potential for fun there. smile

And I'm just surprised that all the chatter on the huge post in the general writers forum isn't moved here. It might be easier to track the general conversations that way. I have to confess, I find that single, massive thread to be overwhelming and trying to keep up with it is making me lose stamina. That just might be me. Maybe I just arrived too late.

I think a few people feel that way but I think the problem is that Gaia writing guilds are slowly becoming a thing of the past. The guild itself used to be more popular than the thread but over the years general consensus led us to spend more time in the thread and less in the guild. I'm not sure why it happened, but I know it was happening long before I took on the job of SuWriMos organiser! Still, don't lose hope! Just do what I do and pop in and out of the thread, don't worry about catching up and just jump into any conversation going. :3

The problem with that is I keep getting the feeling of being swept under the rug. So I try to make myself stay awake/online long enough to see responses. That's not healthy for me. As a result I feel like there's very little point in posting if I never see any response to what I say, if that makes sense.

That makes complete sense. I wonder if I can devise some new ways to get people back in the guild a bit more often...

Hello. Guess its time to share in the guild.

I'm working on finishing Echo from last years Camp. Echo is a sci-fi/spy (sorta) novel that follows members of a rebel group who are working for a collection of planet nations trying to prevent a larger Federation from acquiring a weapon that would allow them wipe out the planet nations.

I'm also working on worldbuilding for Echo and for another project called Shifter.

Both of these projects sound awesome. What's Shifter about? (Or are you not ready to share yet? =D)

Alright, it seems I am changing my project. Sort of.

I'm switching my SuWriMos project to the second temp project I started, which still doesn't have a name yet, and saving Raised by Death for my actual Camp project in July.

Shifter is actually the story that Veiris is from. I don't mind sharing about it. I've been playing with Shifter off-and-on for years. Although, I don't think I've ever actually done any work on it on thread except asking people for help with tattoo ideas.

Anyhow, Shifter is set in an earth-like world. There are many types of magic-users, but Shifters are different from them in one major way- they are the only ones who can complete a full-body shift and they cannot learn any other magic style (their magic is complete in its form but not malleable). Because of this, and thanks to a widely believed/excepted legend/myth, Shifters are seen as lesser than others and are currently being persecuted in most regions. The story itself follows a Shifter who is forced to leave home because of the rising power of the Clerics (the main group persecuting them). He ends up traveling with a caravan and then ends up getting swept up in a Shifter rebellion- but all he wants is just to go home. He's a farmer, not a fighter.

The story started just as a character idea for a shapeshifter who had a tattoo for every form. My roommate, who was an anthro studying tattoos, joined in. And we spent 7 hours working out the mechanics of shapeshifting and the tattoos, etc. Eventually, it turned into a story...somehow.

That sounds awesome! It sounds like a novel I'd really love to read. =D I love heroes who don't want to be heroes, and people on unwilling adventures, haha. Plus the tattoo thing is really cool, because hiding those has gotta be a complete b***h. XD

For the summer, I'm working on a novel that I have temporarily named Immortals. It's about a population of wealthy people who went underground about a thousand years ago due to a major war involving bombs, poison gas, missiles, tanks, and biological warfare. The ground level survivors managed to rebuild their lives and have created small societies and villages. The underground survivors discovered remains of the Library of Alexandria, which contained ancient knowledge of immortality and magic, although the records needed some scientific tinkering in order to work. Once the undergrounders harnessed the powers immortality and the different forms of magic, they decided to take control of the surface world by enslaving humans to work on farms and factories to supply the undergrounders.

But now, after hundreds of years of keeping the humans enslaved, the Immortals have discovered to recreate the world as they see fit. But in order to achieve this, the human villages need to be eradicated. Catching wind of this, a woman named Cecilia and her husband named Jasper infiltrated the underground and stole some of the ancient texts and using them to help arm the humans, thus creating the rebel group names SHADOW (name pending).

Now, it is up to Cecilia's and Jasper's daughter Claudette to lead the rebellion against the Immortals, who have turned their leadership over to the deadly newlyweds Kira and Blair Prescott. Kira, who is brutal, insane, volitile, and violent, has new plans for the humans. Can Claudette protect her people against the morbid Immortal and her hell-bent motive to destroy humanity?

Yay for blurbs.

The story actually started with the idea of shapeshifters having tattoos, so they are my favorite thing to figure out. And yeah, hiding them is a repeated thing. One MC only has 3, so his are easy. They tend to start on the torso (although there is one shifter who was very annoyed that she ended up with one on her calf). But MC1 doesn't have a lot to worry about on that front. Veiris (the on in the CC) has loads! They cover his torso completely and up the back of his neck. They go down both arms. stop at his right wrist but go done onto the back of his left hand, so he has to wear long sleeves, a scarf, and gloves. No matter the weather.

Kitten: That explains so much about those two in the CC. Sounds like you're gonna have quite a bit of action to write.
