Every once in a while the Destiny City Community Center put on events for the surrounding schools to come together for a little camaraderie. It was known to host a variety of activities, from talent shows and pageants, to homecoming dances and prom.

Early in the month of May, posters went up around town advertising Destiny City's first annual Spring Fling, a family friendly event meant to liven school spirit as the school year headed toward a steady close. Students from all schools would be eligible to attend, with high school students and children from Knightside gaining admittance for free. The 18+ crowd was not barred from attending; however, they would be required to pay $20 dollars per person for admission, the proceeds of which would go to local charities involved in the clean up of Destiny City.

On the evening of the dance, the Community Center's gymnasium was decorated with yellow, green, and white streamers and balloons, as well as paper mache sunflowers. Pizza was being sold for $2 a slice, and soda was available for $1 a can. Alcohol was strictly prohibited. Anyone caught drinking alcohol or anyone behaving in a lewd manner would be asked to leave by chaperoning members of the Spring Fling committee.

Haven Sinclair was not one for school dances. Really, she wasn't one for school sponsored anything. Dances, pep rallies, things of that nature. She was completely lacking in the school spirit department. If it didn't have to do with projects and test scores, she cared very little for it.

But the last party she'd been to had yielded interesting results. Not interesting in that people had been kidnapped and tortured—no, she wasn't so cold as to think something like that interesting. But that there'd been energy draining going on right beneath their noses intrigued her. It would seem the Negaverse liked to target large gatherings. Which made sense, of course. The larger the gathering, the more energy they received.

So she thought this the perfect opportunity to conduct more of her research, and when her mother encouraged her to “go with the nice young boy across the street,” she really had no excuse. Her mother even bought her a new dress and let her wear some of her pearls for the occasion.

Which was how Haven found herself at the Spring Fling with Peter Gallo for company.

“You think you-know-who is up to something?” she wondered, sitting in one of the chairs lined along the walls around the dance floor, staring critically up at the paper mache sunflowers like they might secretly be evil energy suckers.

Peter Gallo, while he wasn’t the first to jump for the opportunity to go to social events, somehow found himself in the Community Center not only dressed up in a suit and tie, but with Haven Sinclair. Of all the people he could have gone with, it was Haven, his long time rival. Of course, now that they would be going to different high schools, it was unlikely that he would be seeing much of her after the end of the school year.

Blessfully.

Part of him wishes he knew that one girl he’d met during that horrible New Years thing. If he remembered correctly, her name was Sailor Skadi. Alas, his lack of friends was obvious.

Peter sat at one of the chairs along the wall, chewing on a carrot he’d found from the refreshment table as he watched the people enter the room, with no one but Haven as his company. He didn’t bother looking her way when she asked him, and he casually responded, “Voldemort?” He knew exactly what she was talking about, but couldn’t help himself.

Paris really had no desire to be out in public. Recent events had naturally dampened her spirit, and after the catastrophe that was New Year's the idea of going to any sort of city sponsored party made her mildly uncomfortable at best. There was no telling whether or not the Negaverse would choose to attack again.

Which, in the end, was part of the reason she found herself attending the Spring Fling as a chaperone. Part of her wanted to prove that New Year's hadn't emotionally and psychologically crippled her so much that she could no longer go to large gatherings she would have been thrilled to attend otherwise. Another part of her was just itching for the Negaverse to attack.

Let them come, she thought. She could do with a little revenge.

Except the Spring Fling was hardly the place for it. There were children present, school aged and younger—her little sister, just two and a half, in particular.

Paris held one of Lilah's hands as she and Chris entered the gymnasium. Dressed in a pink dress littered with flower petals, and probably decked out in far too much jewelry for the event, Paris looked the very picture of springtime. Lilah matched in a dress with a while bodice and a skirt of pink rosettes.

“Figures Mom would pick tonight to have us babysit,” Paris said. Lilah strained against her hand, trying to make her way to the dancing crowds.

***********************************

Haven made an annoyed sound at Peter's response. She hit him on the arm for it.

Gently.

“You know what I mean,” she said.

Since they'd both discovered the other to be a Senshi, Haven had thought it pertinent to discuss Senshi business with him, particularly since Peter had been a Senshi long enough to have gained a level over her. That bothered her competitive spirit a little bit; she didn't like being on a lower level compared to him. She was determined that that would soon change.

“They could have set up the paper mache flowers to drain energy,” she suggested. “Do you feel weak or tired at all?”

She didn't, but a second opinion never hurt.

“It’ll be fine,” Chris promised, staying close by as he scanned the crowd for anyone who was roughhousing and needed to be asked to calm down. He never claimed not to be a hardass about following rules. As it was, it didn’t look as though there was much going on at the moment. Hopefully it would be a pretty slow night.

“Let me know if you need me to carry her,” he offered, sliding the suit jacket he was wearing down his arms to remove completely, and then roll up the sleeves of his button down shirt. It wasn’t as though he was trying to impress anyone, and it was too warm in there as it was. “Or if you get tired in general,” he added with a shrug.

There had been a lot of things going on recently, but he was determined to not let it get him down. It was harder said than done, of course.

*******************

“Hey,” he whined when she hit him, and he gave her a confused look before going back to gnawing on his carrot. The discussion about them both being Senshi often came up when they were together, and while Peter thought it was cool that they could talk about things like that, he kind of wished they… wouldn’t talk about things like that.

“No,” he let out a grunt to her second question, wondering why she was still talking to him. It really was only ever about Senshi stuff that she talked to him about these days. Again, cool and all, but he didn’t particularly like feeling that that was all he was good for.

“I thought this was supposed to be a dance,” he added with a huff, looking around for someone… anyone else. He thought Haven was, again, cool and all, and she did look rather pretty in her dress and her hair done up, but she was also his rival. And a girl. Where were the other guys??

“I'm fine,” Paris said, not fighting with Lilah so much as trying to restrain her from running off on her own. “She just wants to dance.”

“Wan' to dance,” Lilah announced unnecessarily.

It unsettled Paris to have her baby sister present, but she'd committed to chaperoning the Spring Fling before her mother had asked her to babysit. It was supposed to be child friendly, but with the way large gatherings tended to go... it made her anxious.

She cleared her throat and scanned the room for any sign of trouble but didn't see anything. Good. That was good. Maybe everything really would be okay and they'd have a nice night without having to worry about the Negaverese.

Pulled by the efforts of her little sister, Paris made her way closer to the dance floor, looking over her shoulder at Chris as she went.

“Grab something to eat if you want,” she said. “Actually, try and find something for her to snack on. No c-a-n-d-y. And can you grab me a slice of pizza? I'm starving.”

***********************************

Haven, noticing that Peter wasn't as involved in the conversation as she thought he should be, huffed and shifted in her chair impatiently, giving him a little glare in the process.

“If you want to dance, go dance,” she said. She sounded a little snide, which wasn't her intention at all, but she tended to get that way around Peter.

She didn't know why he got under her skin so much. It probably had something to do with their competitiveness, but that would soon be ending. To be honest, Haven was going to miss it. She doubted there'd be anyone at Crystal who could keep up with her in quite the same way Peter did.

But every time she tried to be nice, it just came out sounding mean. Haven frowned to herself and tried to rephrase her comment in a way that sounded nicer.

“I mean, don't let me hold you back.”

She winced. That didn't sound much better.

It had taken some doing, but eventually Gabriel's mother had convinced him it was for the greater good. He would be chaperoning for the Spring Fling, and he would be doing it in her stead. Wonderful! Not only, now, did he had to watch over his young sister, but he also had to take the time to watch over the other young students as well.

It was a true fact that he loved his sister, and would do anything she desired. But a dance? A dance where he would have to be out in the open? This was crazy. He had even gone to the extent of trying to work another shift at the coffee shop to try and get out of this obligation, but no luck. His boss understood the need for Gabriel to be there, and even though he knew the money would be appreciated, there were times that Gabriel thought his boss and mother were conspiring against him.

He stood in the corner of the main dance hall, not too far from the punch bowl and other such treats. It was the one place he figured he could see the clearest. It also happened to be the one area where he could duck behind the streamers should he need to get out of sight quickly.

Chantal had insisted that he dress for the occasion, she even going so far as to pick out exactly what she would like him to wear. After all, one cannot allow for their brother to make a fool of himself in public...right? The black, silken shirt, tucked nicely into the waistband of his pants, a black belt with silver buckle holding them firmly in place. He looks like the cover of a dark romance book. His hair drawn back in a loose braid and ended with a black velvet bow. Gabriel had to give his sister credit. She had taste. Now if only she had chosen better shoes.

He shifted from side to side, his feet already aching in the black, polished oxfords. It was going to be a long night, and he was not looking forward to the pain. 'Boots...next time boots, no matter what she says.' He shook his head and glanced out into the crowd, watching Chantal as she swayed back and forth to the music.

She was very much like himself. The loner, the odd one out. She had long been called the ugly duckling in school, but Gabriel knew better. Let the boys think her plain. It saved him the trouble of having to beat them up after classes.

A spring fling, not normally his sort of thing. he didn't do social dances unless he had to, which meant unless it was a function his parents were attending or a Negaverse thing. However, he was here and dressed up as well. Considering the heat the city had been suffering, this heat wave needed to end, Alexandre had dressed in clothing that might not seem so fitting. He wore a suit, dress pants, and a dark blue turtleneck which brought out the color of hie eyes. The suit was fine cut to fit and the turtleneck was form fitting under it. He'd had to have things tailored to fit his smaller frame, though his arms had gotten a bit larger since he'd been spending time at a gym. Aiden had come by before he'd even gotten dressed so Alex had wound up dressing in front of the other, not at all ashamed or worried about the other seeing him in various states of undress. What had, maybe, concerned him was Aiden's opinion of the ink which decorated his skin in the form of ivy curling and wrapping about his upper half while thorns protruded from the ivy vines. That wasn't the only tattoo, he had two others, but he'd asked the other what he thought of it, which was an odd thing for the normally confident twenty year old. But it mattered to him for some reason, even if he liked the ink he bore.

Looking over to the dark haired male he flashed a smile, something soft and only just there. "Looks like a few children have turned up." In a city like this it was a wonder really. Considering how often things went bad, like really bad, he had to wonder about the parents who let their little children come to such things. Didn't they know how high the probability of a big social event being ruined by 'terrorists'? If he were just a normal civilian and he had a little cousin, sibling, or anything else that wanted to come here he'd put his foot down and not permit it.

Not being a civilian, at least not a normal one, afforded him the knowledge that nothing was planned for this spring fling - at least nothing dealing with the Negaverse. He supposed this was the first time, in a long time, he'd gone to an event for himself and not for someone, or something, else. Reaching back to check that his hair was secure, tightening the hair holder, he took another look to Aiden. "I really hope this event isn't crashed like New Years..." And he did. He hoped nothing happened, nothing he didn't expect, he wanted this to go well for everyone.

It had been several months since Jasper had graced the public of Destiny City with his charm and handsome features. The last time had gone very well. He had ended up meeting a woman that to this day filled his thoughts. His Flower....

But that was then and this was now. Since that evening, he had not seen her again and how dare he even consider allowing the women of Destiny City a chance to miss being swept off their feet!

Not to mention his social butterfly of a baby sister wanted her turn in the spot light. Amelia had been the one to discover the information about the Fling before he had. She had shown up one morning in his bedroom with a flier and puppy dog eyes claiming 'it was her future school too'. Throw in a few pouts and Jasper had of course given in to his sister.

Though he was starting to wonder how many slices of pizza he was going to be buying that evening....

As it was, she seemed rather content to hold onto a fist full of his pant fabric and admire all the ladies in pretty dresses, but for far different reasons than him. On more than one occasion her mouth dropped to a perfect ‘o’ shape; it was rather amusing.

Being so small definitely had its downfalls especially when maneuvering through a thicker part of the crowd where people congregated near the food table. Far too many legs which ended in terrifyingly pointy heels clapped the ground as they walked by.

Amelia stopped rather unexpectedly and gave Jaspers pant leg a little tug. “Up pease?” Her eyebrows raised in an innocent fashion and lip stuck out just a bit. For a moment she let go of him and wrung her little fingers behind her back and swayed from side to side. Her dress swayed around her ankles causing a shift in the petals that were encased in the hem of the mesh so they started to gather in one spot.

It wasn’t that she was tired, rather she wanted a better view of the room they were in. Plus, it was quite intimidating when people bumped into her by mistake not realizing she was there.

((Amelia played as NPC currently. Interaction welcome for both))

Imara was on chaperone duty. The Iron Cow had gotten word such an event was taking place in town. Figuring it would be a great way to once again market, they sent some people to help in anyway that was needed.

Being a manager, that meant her. She had to be a role model of course....even if she was standing in the back with her eyes shooting in every direction. She didn't trust high schoolers any more than she could throw them. Especially the boys.

However, what her eyes had caught onto now was a young woman swaying back and forth alone on the floor. A young girl trying to have a good time. Imara felt for her. In high school, she had been one of the girls to walk up to a boy. Not everyone was that way.

She would give it a few moments more before deciding what to do.

((open for anyone!))
PostPosted: Mon May 18, 2015 10:33 am

The room seemed to be filling up nicely. He surprised at the number of adults here as well as the younger and teenaged children. His sister, being only just in the elementary school, seemed rather out of place.

He watched her close. Watched as a few older girls passed her by, laughing and gawking at the small child that danced alone. He had long ago decided he teenage girls were not worth his time. They were vicious, cruel, and judging, and that was something he hoped that Chantal would be spared as she grow into a fine young woman.

He pulled a notebook from his back pocket, making note in it to mention these girls to Chantal later. Life lessons were always best taught when things were fresh in the mind, but right now he did not wish to spoil her fun.

'It is a cruel thing, being here like this...why had she not remembered how much I hate these events?' His face twisted into a frown, shaking his head and lowering his eyes to the ground for a moment. Dances, the bane of his existence. How many had he tried to attend and been shot down for a date? How many more had he gone alone on to the teased, poked and beaten up? Oh there were too many to count.

There were advantages to his pain, however. The experience had made him stronger. True it had turned him off from social interaction for the most part, but he had little to no trouble standing up for himself now. He smirked, thinking about the look he had been given the first time he fought back. He had given the boy a black eye and a broken nose. True, he had broken a knuckle in the process, but it had been worth it, and the grounding that had followed.

His eye flicked up as the song changed. Chantal had moved. I momentary panic coming over Gabriel before his eyes locked in her once more. She had taken a seat, good. Well, he supposed she did not see it that way, but it did give him a chance to relax.

He walked from his station, crossing the floor to where she sat. His hand sneaking out to rest on her shoulder and then to embrace her from behind. "You need a companion in this misery, young maiden. It is not healthy to sit and mope alone." His smile could have melted ice. He rarely smiled, and when he did it was normally for her. She was a light in the darkness to him. A breath of fresh air, an to see her so sad often made his heart hurt worse than anything else in the world.

The young girl turned her eyes up to look at her elder brother. She pouting lightly as she placed her hand over his. She hugging them to herself and shaking her head. "My dear knight, no one wishes to dance with me. They say I am too little and that I should not be here with the big girls." Tears started to come to her eyes. "Do you think I am too little, Gabriel?"

Harmony was only filling in for her mother. That was what she consoled herself with when she arrived at the community center in a dress and heels. She was not quite old enough to feel like an authority figure and not quite young enough to really fit in but when her mother had called, panicked, and explained that she was meant to help chaperone as a teacher at Crystal but could no longer make it because Sarah was sick she had agreed to step into the role before thinking about how awkward it would be.

So far she was milling more or less unobtrusively in the back of the room looking for someone she knew. There were people she recognized but was not close to, but their nearness to her age made her feel a bit better.

She saw Paris and Jasper and waved to them, brightening a little to know they were here. She wondered how Paris' little gift to Chris went over. And wondered who the kids with both of her friends were...

Chailee had been really excited when word spread about the Spring Fling that the city was hosting. She enjoyed any reason to dress up in fancy dresses and things since she rarely ever did it in day-to-day life what with school and being at the stables so much. It had actually gotten to the point she felt like she lived in her school uniform or riding clothes. So the moment the Spring Fling was announced and she had gotten permission from her parents she went out shopping. Her mother had given her a very strict budget but she had managed to find an adorable new dress and some accessories to go with it.

So Chailee walked into the building sporting her new yellow spring dress with a pair of small heeled sandals and gold bangle bracelets. She had pulled her hair half back with a small bun and left the rest of her curls hang down loose. Over all it wasn't anything too fancy but she felt good in it and felt it was appropriate.

When she entered though and looked around at the assembly of people she didn't recognize any familiar faces. She sighed a bit, having hoped to see at least one of her friends there but it seemed that they were either not here yet or just weren't coming. She noted that people seemed to be grouped up already and feeling a bit awkward at the idea of trying to push her way into a knit of students she opted to get a drink.

Slipping the dollar bill out of the small white wristlet she carried she paid for the soda and moved slightly to the side to watch, periodically glancing at the entrance to see if anyone she knew happened to arrive.

Chris snorted softly in amusement when Paris suggested him find something to eat, only to amend her suggestion to include him finding something for Lilah to eat, and then something for Paris. He didn’t mind and lifted a hand to show he got the message before turning to make his way across the room. There weren’t too many people there yet, which was fine with him. He noticed his brother and the girl from across the street, of course, but there were few others he recognized just yet.

At the punch bowl there were a few things Chris could already see amiss. There was a small girl who looked like she was not feeling too well, and his quest for food was suddenly deterred. “Hey, you okay? Did you get hurt?” Chris stopped to look at first the girl and the young man in black who was with her. He’d never seen them before, but that didn’t matter. Instead, he knelt down closer to the girl’s level with a small smile. “My name’s Chris. What’s your name?”

Peter once again did not bother looking Haven’s way, possibly waiting for the moment that she would give him the perfect excuse to leave. “Fine,” he said with a shrug and popped the last of the carrot he was eating into his mouth. He was used to her being mean to him, but that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt sometimes.

“You’ve never held me back,” he added as he got up and brushed off any crumbs that got onto his striped tie. “Maybe, if you wanted my company, you would just say so instead of pushing me away all the time.” Peter shrugged and moved away from the line of chairs, at first heading towards the table where the food was once more.

He glanced around and noted some people he recognized, such as Alexandre, whom he lifted a hand and showed him an awkward grin. Peter wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t even recognized. He was no longer as tiny as he used to be, back when he’d first met Alexandre. In fact, he was as tall as his sister-in-law. Soon he would be as tall as his brothers, with any luck.

Distracted by an old acquaintance, he didn’t see the girl his age with the blue and pink hair until he ran into her, but grabbed her arm before he was able to get thrown off balance and fall, although in the process managed to spill her soda all over himself. “Whoa, sorry. You okay?” he frowned in concern, releasing her arm once he was sure she wouldn’t go crashing to the ground.

“s**t, sorry about that,” he added, digging into his pocket for his wallet so he could pass another dollar to the attendant so she could get another drink. He grabbed a couple napkins to mop himself up, but that wasn’t really a big concern for him. He hated these outfits, anyway.

When horrible things weren’t planned for social events, Ilian actually enjoyed them. It might seem silly for someone his age to actually like gatherings like this (a dance, of all things), but he was often quiet lonely and being around people tended to energize him.

It helped that he didn’t have to pay for his entry, because he wouldn’t have been able to afford it on his own. Even being in the negaverse, he did not steal enough to make a large financial difference in his life.

He didn’t bother wearing anything too fancy. Just a dark navy blazer and pants, and shirt and tie he’d borrowed from Lovely. In fact, if it wasn’t worn out jeans and tee-shirts, his clothing was practically all borrowed from Lovely, who was closer to his size than Jericho.

“There’s food,” he observed, trying to ignore the growl in his stomach as he eyed the table where they had drinks and pizza. It probably sounded silly, but he was not used to too many choices when it came to eating.

The young teen slouched into the gym with a grumpy look, his long hair tipped in neon green tonight in defiance of the concept of 'dressing up'. Orah had managed to weedle her younger brother into a pair of slacks, but he'd staunchly refused a jacket and sleeves on the button down shirt under his vest being anything more than above-the-elbow to expose his bright teal fishnets. He'd stuck all the chains he owned on the studded belt holding his pants up and they rattled as he turned on his booted-heel to head in a beeline for the food ******** this s**t. If he had to come to a stupid school dance, he was going to get his fill of food first and then hopefully disappear before anyone pulled him into an awkward dance. Already he felt like he needed a cigarette, but having one was entirely out of the question while under the eye of his sister. At least she'd brought her friend along, so if he got lucky, she'd be distracted.

Matthew slid a green-eyed glance over his shoulder as Orah trailed along behind him, wondering at the expression she wore. He'd never seen her look... quite like that. He wasn't sure what it meant, and he was undecided if he was happy about it or not.

~~~~
"Matthew, wait!" Orah called as she watched her brother take off into the crowd, appearing intent on losing his tail for the night. She blew an exasperated breath between pursed lips, but her expression was light despite the minor annoyance. Matthew was being a pain, what was new? She knew he didn't like 'lame' school functions, but it had seemed like a good chance for them to get out and do something... normal, for a change. She sorely missed 'normal'.
"I'm sorry." The young woman said as she reached to tuck her bangs behind her ears, the curls from her high pony tail brushing against her back. "We probably won't see him the rest of the night, if he has his way."
The announcement about the dance had sparked the idea to attend and her younger brother had seemed the perfect excuse for being there. Someone had to watch him right? And why not bring a friend along to enjoy the festivities with? Orah had wondered if Laney didn't need the diversion as much as she did, even with the parallels between this and the New Years event. The reminder was enough to fade her smile and she searched her friend's face to be sure she really was okay with this, agreement to go or not.
"If its uncomfortable, we don't have to stay, really. But I thought it might be fun and if anything happens, then we're here to keep everyone safe." Orah offered a curve of her lips, trying to project confidence in her strapless blue dress with its lace overlay as she offered Laney her hand.
