There had been so much running. From shadows, form corrupted knights, from undead creatures; through the bowels of the castle and darkened corridors back to the vast landscape again. Maple was getting tired of running, the thrill of the fight and adrenaline finally fading. She had found a nice looking rock along the banks of the lake, rested her claymore against it and her tired bones upon it.
At her feet the chicken she had summoned clucked and pecked the at grass.
The black knight let out a heavy sigh, closing her eyes in the process. There was so much she still didn't understand. So many of the great knights, perhaps even all of them, had now perished and she had been too late through so many of the encounters to find out exactly why. Urg, everything was such a mess, she thought to herself.Astaraei ahahaha... I forgot how much I suck with titles

It had come in such a rush that he had hardly had time to think about it. Fragments of memory simply repeated themselves in his mind's eye, on an infinite loop. Escaping to the cottage, banished to the dungeons, driven mad by the grail (that never existed), and in the commotion of escape, seeing the prophecy come to pass as Mordred was thrown into a casket.
Even if he didn't know what to think, he certainly felt strongly about it all. Not by choice, merely by nature. It was a combination of misery, dread, and just enough embarrassment to want to crawl into a hole and die. The things he had done, he could not take back. He was no knight.
He wandered, till the voices of the gathered knights gave way to gently lapping water, and all but collapsed in the grass with a dull clank of metal and a soft 'ow' from landing on his injured side.
It was quiet here.
"So... you're not going to volunteer?" Szczeosny's voice finally rose up from below, lying in grass and dirt and willing decomposition to go faster. Beneath the dejection, he did sound a little bit surprised. As far as he could imagine, he was the only one who couldn't.

Maple had begun to settle in on just staring at the water and attempting not to think on anything in particular, not of the what had happened to them and not of her failures. Just on the water as it lapped on the rocks and the soft sand. Of the grass nearby that whistled in the wind.
The sudden clank of metal upon grass and the small exclamation of pain pulled her instantly from her zen moment and made the black knight jump. Maple's shoulder's hitched and her head slowly turned towards the direction of the sound, it was another knight laying in the grass nearby it seemed. He didn't seem to be saying much at first, she even wondered if he knew she was there. But then he asked a question, perhaps he did? Her brows furled sadly.
"I d-don't know..." Maple replied softly, "I .. don't know if I've p-proven myself worthy...." Aa, just what she didn't want to think about.
